In abounding righteousness is great strength, but the ungodly shall utterly perish from the earth. ⁶ In the houses of the righteous is much strength, but the fruits of the ungodly shall perish. ⁷ The lips of the wise are bound by discretion, but the hearts of the foolish are not safe. ⁸ The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord, but the prayers of them that walk honestly are acceptable to Him. ⁹ The ways of an ungodly man are an abomination to the Lord, but He loves those that follow after righteousness. ¹⁰ The instruction of the simple is known by them that pass by, but they that hate reproofs die disgracefully. ¹¹ Hell and destruction are manifest to the Lord, how shall not the hearts of men be, also? ¹² An uninstructed person will not love those that reprove him, neither will he associate with the wise. ¹³ When the heart rejoices, the countenance is cheerful, but when it is in sorrow, the countenance is sad. ¹⁴ An upright heart seeks discretion, but the mouth of the uninstructed will experience evils. ¹⁵ The eyes of the wicked are always looking for evil things, but the good are always quiet. ¹⁶ Better is a small portion with the fear of the Lord, than great treasures without the fear of the Lord. ¹⁷ Better is an entertainment of herbs with friendliness and kindness, than a feast of calves, with enmity. ¹⁸ A passionate man stirs up strife; but he that is slow to anger appeases even a rising one. ^(15:18A) A man slow to anger will extinguish quarrels, but an ungodly man rather stirs them up. ¹⁹ The ways of sluggards are strewn with thorns, but those of the diligent are made smooth. ²⁰ A wise son gladdens his father, but a foolish son sneers at his mother. ²¹ The ways of a foolish man are void of sense, but a wise man walks straight. ²² They that honor not councils put off deliberation, but counsel abides in the hearts of counselors. ²³ A bad man will by no means obey counsel, neither will he say anything seasonable, or of good report. ²⁴ The thoughts of the wise are ways of life, that he may turn aside and escape from hell. ²⁵ The Lord pulls down the houses of scorners, but He establishes the border of the widow. ²⁶ An unrighteous thought is an abomination to the Lord, but the sayings of the pure are held in honor. ²⁷ A receiver of bribes destroys himself, but he that hates the receiving of bribes is safe. ^(15:27A) By alms and by faithful dealings sins are purged away, but by the fear of the Lord everyone departs from evil. ²⁸ The hearts of the righteous meditate faithfulness, but the mouth of the ungodly answers evil things. ^(15:28A) The ways of righteous men are acceptable with the Lord, and through them even enemies become friends. ²⁹ God is far from the ungodly, but He hears the prayers of the righteous. ^(15:29A) Better are small receipts with righteousness, than abundant fruits with unrighteousness. ^(15:29B) Let the heart of a man think justly, that his steps may be rightly ordered of God. ³⁰ The eye that sees rightly rejoices the heart, and a good report fattens the bones. ³¹ (TEXT OMITTED) ³² He that rejects instruction hates himself, but he who heeds rebuke loves his soul. ³³ The fear of the Lord is instruction and wisdom, and the highest honor will correspond therewith.

¹ And the men of Ephraim said to Gideon, What is this that you have done to us, in that you did not call us when you went to fight with Midian? And they contended with him sharply. ² And he said to them, What have I now done in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? ³ The Lord has delivered into your hand the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and what could I do in comparison of you? Then was their spirit calmed toward him, when he spoke this word.

³ And I saw that you were no helper, and I put my life in my hand, and passed on to the sons of Ammon; and the Lord delivered them into my hand: and why then have you come up against me this day to fight with me? ⁴ And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they that had escaped of Ephraim said, You are of Gilead in the midst of Ephraim and in the midst of Manasseh. ⁵ And Gilead took the fords of the Jordan before Ephraim; and they that escaped of Ephraim said to them, Let us go over. And the men of Gilead said, Are you an Ephraimite? And he said, No. ⁶ Then they said to him, Say now Stachys. And he did not correctly pronounce it. So they took him, and killed him at the fords of the Jordan; and there fell at that time of Ephraim forty-two thousand.

¹⁰ And Nabal sprang up, and answered the servants of David, and said, Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? Nowadays there are an abundance of servants who depart, everyone from his master. ¹¹ And shall I take my bread, and my wine, and my beasts that I have slain for my shearers, and shall I give them to men of whom I know not who they are? ¹² So the servants of David turned back and returned, and came and reported to David according to these words. ¹³ And David said to his men, Gird on every man his sword. And they went up after David, about four hundred men. And two hundred stayed with the supplies.

²¹ And David said, Perhaps I have kept all his possessions in the wilderness that he should wrong me, and we did not order the taking of anything, of all his goods; yet he has rewarded me evil for good. ²² So God do to David and more also, if I leave one male of all that belongs to Nabal until the morning. ²³ And Abigail saw David, and she dismounted quickly from her donkey; and she fell before David on her face, and bowed down to him, bowing to the ground, ²⁴ even to his feet, and said, On me, my lord, be my wrong. Let your servant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your servant. ²⁵ Let not my lord take to heart this pestilent man, for according to his name, so is he — Nabal is his name, and folly is with him! But I, your maidservant, did not see the servants of my lord whom you sent. ²⁶ And now my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, as the Lord has kept you from coming against innocent blood and from executing vengeance for yourself, now therefore let your enemies, and those that seek evil against my lord, become as Nabal. ²⁷ And now accept this token of goodwill, which your servant has brought to my lord, and you shall give it to the servants that wait on my lord. ²⁸ Remove the trespass of your servant, I pray; for the Lord will surely make for my lord a sure house, for the Lord fights the battles of my lord, and no evil shall ever be found in you. ²⁹ And if a man shall rise up persecuting you and seeking your life, yet shall the life of my lord be bound up in the bundle of life with the Lord God, and you shall whirl the life of your enemies as in the midst of a sling. ³⁰ And it shall be when the Lord has brought to pass for my lord all the good things He has spoken concerning you, and shall appoint you to be ruler over Israel, ³¹ then this shall not be an abomination and offense to my lord, to have shed innocent blood without cause, and for my lord to have avenged himself. And so may the Lord do good to my lord, and you shall remember your maidservant, to do her good. ³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this very day to meet me. ³³ And blessed be your conduct, and blessed are you, who has hindered me this very day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself.

⁴³ And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we are older than you, we have also an interest in David above you: and why have you thus insulted us, and why was not our advice taken before that of Judah, to bring back our king? And the speech of the men of Judah was sharper than the speech of the men of Israel.

¹³ And the king answered the people harshly. And Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men which they counseled him. ¹⁴ And he spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. ¹⁵ And the king hearkened not to the people, because the change was from the Lord, that He might establish His word which He spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat. ¹⁶ And all Israel saw that the king did not hearken to them. And the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? Neither have we any inheritance in the son of Jesse. Depart, O Israel, to your tents; now feed your own house, David.

¹² Hatred stirs up strife, but affection covers all that do not love strife.

¹⁸ A passionate man stirs up strife; but he that is slow to anger appeases even a rising one. ^(15:18A) A man slow to anger will extinguish quarrels, but an ungodly man rather stirs them up.

¹⁵ In long suffering is prosperity to kings, and a soft tongue breaks the bones.

²⁵ An unbelieving man judges rashly, but he that trusts in the Lord will act carefully.

²² A furious man stirs up strife, and a passionate man digs up sin.

¹ For the end, for alternate strains by the sons of Korah; for instruction, A song concerning the beloved. My heart has uttered a good matter; I declare my works to the king; my tongue is the pen of a quick writer.

⁷ Behold, they shall utter a voice with their mouth, and a sword is in their lips; for who, they say, has heard?

²³ An understanding man is a throne of wisdom, but the heart of fools shall meet with curses.

¹⁶ Every prudent man acts with knowledge, but the fool displays his own mischief.

²³ A bad man will by no means obey counsel, neither will he say anything seasonable, or of good report.

²⁸ The hearts of the righteous meditate faithfulness, but the mouth of the ungodly answers evil things. ^(15:28A) The ways of righteous men are acceptable with the Lord, and through them even enemies become friends.

²³ The heart of the wise will discern the things which proceed from his own mouth, and on his lips he will wear knowledge.

¹¹ As a golden apple in a necklace of sardius, so is it to speak a wise word. ¹² In an earring of gold a precious sardius is also set; so is a wise word to an obedient ear.

¹² The words of a wise mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow him up. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is folly, and the end of his talk mischievous madness.

⁴ The Lord, even God, gives me the tongue of instruction, to know when it is fit to speak a word; He has appointed for me early, He has given me an ear to hear;

⁹ For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout all the earth, to strengthen every heart that is perfect toward Him. In this you have done foolishly; henceforth there shall be war with you.

⁴ Will He not see my way, and number all my steps?

²¹ For He surveys the works of men, and nothing of what they do has escaped Him. ²² Neither shall there be a place for the workers of iniquity to hide themselves.

²¹ For the ways of a man are before the eyes of God, and He looks on all his paths.

¹⁷ For My eyes are upon all their ways; and their iniquities have not been hidden from My eyes.

²⁴ Shall anyone hide himself in secret places, and I not see him? Do I not fill heaven and earth? Says the Lord.

¹⁹ the Lord of great counsel, and mighty in deeds, the Great Almighty God, and Lord of great name. Your eyes are upon the ways of the children of men, to give to everyone according to his way;

¹³ And there is no creature hidden before Him, but all things are naked and open to His eyes, to whom we must give an account.

^{22 (3:23)} And God said, Behold, Adam has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, lest at any time he stretch forth his hand, and take of the tree of life and eat, and so he shall live forever — ^{23 (3:24)} so the Lord God sent him forth out of the garden of Delight, to cultivate the ground out of which he was taken. ^{24 (3:25)} And He cast out Adam and caused him to dwell over against the garden of Delight, and stationed the cherubim and the fiery sword that turns about to keep the way of the tree of life

² your tongue has devised unrighteousness; like a sharpened razor you have worked deceit. ³ You have loved wickedness more than goodness; unrighteousness better than to speak righteousness. Pause. ⁴ You have loved all words of destruction, and a deceitful tongue.

²² Deliver me, for I am poor and needy; and my heart is troubled within me.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to all that lay hold of her, and she is a secure help to all that stay themselves on her, as on the Lord.

¹⁸ Some wound as they speak, like swords, but the tongues of the wise heal.

²⁴ Good words are like honeycombs, and the sweetness thereof is a healing of the soul.

⁸ Fear casts down the slothful, and the souls of the effeminate shall hunger.

¹⁴ A wise servant calms a man's anger, but who can endure a faint-hearted man?

²² The words of a talebearer are soft; but they strike even to the inmost parts of the bowels.

² But to you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise, and healing shall be in His wings: and you shall go forth, and bound as young calves let loose from bonds.

³ If anyone teaches differently and does not consent to sound words, even those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,

⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of My God." '

²³ And he said to them, Why do you do such things, which I hear from the mouth of all the people of the Lord? ²⁴ No my sons! For the report which I hear is not good. Do not do so, for the reports which I hear are not good, so that the people do not serve God. ²⁵ If a man should at all sin against another, then shall they pray for him to the Lord; but if a man sin against the Lord, who shall intercede for him? But they hearkened not to the voice of their father, because the Lord would by all means destroy them.

¹ And it came to pass after this that Absalom prepared for himself chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him. ² And Absalom rose early, and stood by the side of the way of the gate. And it came to pass that every man who had a cause came to the king for judgment. And Absalom cried to him, and said to him, Of what city are you? And he said, Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. ³ And Absalom said to him, See, your affairs are right and clear, yet you have no one appointed of the king to hear you. ⁴ And Absalom said, O that one would make me a judge in the land; then every man who had a dispute or a cause would come to me, and I would judge him! ⁵ And it came to pass that when a man came near to bow down to him, that he stretched out his hand, and took hold of him, and kissed him. ⁶ And Absalom did after this manner to all Israel that came to the king for judgment; and Absalom gained the hearts of the men of Israel.

¹¹ And now, my son, the Lord shall be with you, and prosper you; and you shall build a house to the Lord your God, as He spoke concerning you. ¹² Only may the Lord give you wisdom and prudence, and strengthen you over Israel, both to keep and to do the law of the Lord your God. ¹³ Then will He prosper you, if you take heed to do the commandments and judgments which the Lord commanded Moses for Israel; be courageous and strong; fear not, nor be terrified.

⁹ And now, my son Solomon, know the God of your fathers, and serve Him with a perfect heart and a willing soul; for the Lord searches all hearts, and knows every thought: if you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you should forsake Him, He will forsake you forever.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong, and of good courage, and do it: fear not, neither be terrified; for the Lord my God is with you; He will not forsake you, and will not fail you, until you have finished all the work of the service of the house of the Lord. And behold the pattern of the temple, even His house, and its treasury, and the upper chambers, and the inner store rooms, and the place of propitiation, and the plan of the house of the Lord.

⁵ The righteous shall chasten me with mercy, and reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner anoint my head: for yet shall my prayer also be in their pleasures.

²³ Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech.

²³ For the commandment of the law is a lamp and a light; a way of life; reproof also and correction:

¹ A wise son makes his father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.

¹ A wise son is obedient to his father, but a disobedient son will be destroyed.

¹⁸ Instruction removes poverty and disgrace, but he that attends to reproofs shall be honored.

²⁰ Hear, son, the instruction of your father, that you may be wise in your latter days.

¹⁵ Speak these things, exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.

¹⁹ For he has broken down the houses of many mighty men, and he has plundered a house, though he built it not. ²⁰ There is no security to his possessions; he shall not be saved by his desire. ²¹ There is nothing remaining of his provisions, therefore his goods shall not flourish. ²² But when he shall seem to be just satisfied, he shall be straitened; and all distress shall come upon him. ²³ If by any means he would fill his belly, let God send upon him the fury of wrath; let Him bring a torrent of pains upon him.

¹⁶ A little is better to the righteous than the abundant wealth of sinners.

³ Glory and riches shall be in his house; and his righteousness endures forevermore.

²¹ that I may divide substance to them that love me, and may fill their treasures with good things. ^(8:21A) If I declare to you the things that happen daily, I will remember also to recount the things of old.

²² The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the righteous; it enriches him, and grief of heart shall not be added to it.

²² A good man shall inherit children's children, and the wealth of ungodly men is laid up for the just.

¹⁶ Better is a small portion with the fear of the Lord, than great treasures without the fear of the Lord.

^{8 (16:5B)} He that seeks the Lord shall find knowledge with righteousness, and they that rightly seek Him shall find peace.

²⁰ A desirable treasure will rest on the mouth of the wise, but foolish men will swallow it up.

⁶ Better is a handful of rest than two handfuls of trouble and grasping for the wind.

¹⁰ He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he who has loved gain, in the abundance thereof. This also is vanity. ¹¹ In the multitude of good they are increased that eat it, and what virtue has the owner, but the right of beholding it with his eyes? ¹² The sleep of a servant is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep. ¹³ There is an infirmity which I have seen under the sun, namely, wealth kept for its owner to his own hurt. ¹⁴ And that wealth shall perish in an evil trouble, and the man begets a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

²⁶ regarding the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward.

¹ Listen now, you rich, weep and howl at your miseries which are coming upon you! ² Your riches have decayed, and your garments have become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have become corroded, and their poison will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You stored up treasure in the last days.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous will meditate wisdom, and his tongue will speak of judgment.

² You are more beautiful than the sons of men; grace has been shed forth on Your lips; therefore God has blessed You forever.

¹³ Then will I teach transgressors Your ways; and ungodly men shall turn to You. ¹⁴ Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation; and my tongue shall joyfully declare Your righteousness. ¹⁵ O Lord, You shall open my lips; and my mouth shall declare Your praise.

¹⁵ My mouth shall declare Your righteousness openly, and Your salvation all the day; for I am not acquainted with the affairs of men. ¹⁶ I will go on in the might of the Lord: O Lord, I will make mention of Your righteousness only. ¹⁷ O God, You have taught me from my youth, and until now will I declare Your wonders; ¹⁸ even until I am old and advanced in years. O God, forsake me not; until I have declared Your mighty arm to all the generation that is to come;

² I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter dark sayings which have been from the beginning. ³ All which we have heard and known, and our fathers have declared to us. ⁴ They were not hid from their children to a second generation; the fathers declaring the praises of the Lord, and His mighty acts, and His wonders which He has done. ⁵ And He raised up a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, to make it known to their children; ⁶ that another generation might know, even the sons which should be born; and they should arise and declare them to their children.

¹³ With my lips have I declared all the judgments of Your mouth.

²⁰ The tongue of the just is choice silver, but the heart of the ungodly shall fail. ²¹ The lips of the righteous know sublime truths, but the foolish die in want.

⁹ And because the Preacher was wise above others, so it was that he taught men excellent knowledge, and the ear will trace out the parables. ¹⁰ The Preacher sought diligently to find out acceptable words, and a correct writing, even words of truth.

¹¹ Your lips drop honeycomb, my spouse: honey and milk are under your tongue; and the smell of your garments is as the smell of Lebanon.

²⁷ "What I say to you in the dark, say in the light; and what you hear in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.

³⁴ Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. ¹⁹ Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

¹⁵ And He said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to all creation.

⁹ Now the Lord spoke to Paul by a vision in the night, "Fear not, but speak, and do not keep silent; ¹⁰ for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you; for I have many people in this city."

¹⁴ How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear apart from a preacher? ¹⁵ And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, of those preaching the gospel of good things!" ¹⁶ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" ¹⁷ So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ did not work out through me, in word and deed, for the obedience of the Gentiles-- ¹⁹ in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. ²⁰ And so eagerly striving to evangelize not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon the foundation of another, ²¹ but as it is written: "To whom He was not announced, they shall see; and those who have not heard shall understand."

²⁹ Let no corrupt word proceed from your mouth, but only what is good for edification, that it may give grace to them that hear.

² And the things which you have heard from me through many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be competent to teach others also.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. Thus the tongue is set among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.

¹⁷ And I know, O Lord, that You are He that searches the hearts, and You love righteousness. I have willingly offered all these things in simplicity of heart. And now I have seen with joy Your people, who are present here, willingly offering to You.

¹ A Prayer of David. Hearken, O Lord of my righteousness, attend to my petition; give ear to my prayer not uttered with deceitful lips.

¹ Keep your foot, whenever you go to the house of God; and when you are near to hear, let your sacrifice be better than the gift of fools; for they do not know they are doing evil.

¹⁴ You are my dove, in the shelter of the rock, near the wall: show me your face, and cause me to hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your countenance is beautiful.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom; attend to the law of God, you people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ Of what value to Me is the abundance of your sacrifices? Says the Lord; I am full of whole burnt offerings of rams; and I delight not in the fat of lambs, and the blood of bulls and goats; ¹² neither shall you come with these to appear before Me; for who has required these things at your hands? You shall no more tread My court. ¹³ Though you bring fine flour, it is futile; incense is an abomination to Me; I cannot bear your new moons, and your Sabbaths, and the great day; ¹⁴ your fasting, and rest from work, your new moons also, and your feasts My soul hates; you have become loathsome to Me; I will no more pardon your sins. ¹⁵ When you stretch forth your hands, I will turn away My eyes from you; and though you make many supplications, I will not hearken to you; for your hands are full of blood.

⁸ For I am the Lord who loves righteousness, and hate robberies of injustice; and I will give their labor to the just, and will make an everlasting covenant with them.

³ But the transgressor that sacrifices a calf to Me, is as he that kills a dog; and he that offers fine flour, as one that offers swine's blood; he that gives frankincense for a memorial, is as a blasphemer. Yet they have chosen their own ways, and their soul has delighted in their abominations.

²⁰ Why do you bring Me frankincense from Sheba, and cinnamon from a land afar off? Your whole burnt offerings are not acceptable, and your sacrifices have not been pleasing to Me.

²¹ Thus says the Lord, Gather your whole burnt offerings with your grain offerings, and eat flesh. ²² For I spoke not to your fathers, and commanded them not in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, concerning whole burnt offerings and sacrifice; ²³ but I commanded them this thing, saying, Hear My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all My ways which I shall command you, that it may be well with you.

²¹ I hate, I reject your feasts, and I will not smell your grain offerings in your general assemblies. ²² Wherefore if you should bring Me your whole burnt sacrifices and grain offerings, I will not accept them, neither will I have respect to your grand peace offerings.

²⁴ God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

⁶ For the Lord knows the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

⁸ The Lord gives wisdom to the blind; the Lord sets up the broken down; the Lord loves the righteous:; the Lord preserves the strangers; ⁹ He will relieve the orphan and widow: but will utterly remove the way of sinners.

¹⁹ But the ways of the ungodly are like darkness; they know not how they stumble.

⁴ A high-minded man is stout-hearted in his pride, and the lamp of the wicked is sin.

⁸ To the crooked, God sends crooked ways, but as for the pure, his work is right.

²¹ The way of righteousness and mercy will find life and glory.

⁷ The way of the godly is made straight; the way of the godly is also prepared.

¹ Hearken to Me, you that follow after righteousness, and seek the Lord; look to the solid rock, which you have hewn, and to the hole of the pit which you have dug.

⁷ Hear Me, you that know judgment, the people in whose heart is My law; fear not the reproach of men, and be not overcome by their contempt.

⁴ Yet I sent to you My servants the prophets early in the morning; and I sent, saying, Do not do this abominable thing which I hate.

³ Let us follow on to know the Lord: we shall find Him ready as the morning, and He will come to us as the early and latter rain to the earth.

¹³ His eye is too pure to behold evil doings, and to look upon grievous afflictions: why do You look upon despisers? Will You be silent when the ungodly swallows up the just?

¹³ "Enter in through the narrow gate; because wide is the gate, and broad is the way which leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in through it.

¹¹ You however, O man of God, flee these things. But pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness.

²² Flee youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

¹⁷ And it came to pass when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to Elijah, Are you he that perverts Israel?

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he said, I have found you; because you have wickedly sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger;

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is one man here for us to inquire of the Lord by; but I hate him, for he does not speak good of me, but only evil; Micaiah son of Imlah. And Jehoshaphat king of Judah said, Let not the king say such things!

³⁰ neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs.

¹² and you shall say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart avoided reproofs!

¹⁷ Instruction keeps the right ways of life, but instruction unchastened goes astray.

¹ He that loves instruction loves sense, but he that hates reproofs is a fool.

³⁵ And you shall say, They struck me, and I was not pained; and they mocked me, and I knew it not: when will it be morning, that I may go and seek those with whom I may go in company?

⁵ Why should you be smitten anymore, transgressing more and more? The whole head is pained, and the whole heart sad. ⁶ From the feet to the head, there is no soundness in them; neither wound, nor bruise, nor festering ulcer are healed; it is not possible to apply a plaister, nor oil, nor bandages.

¹³ Her scum shall become shameful, because you defiled yourself; and what if you shall be purged no more until I have accomplished My wrath? ¹⁴ I the Lord have spoken; and it shall come, and I will do it; I will not delay, neither will I have any mercy: I will judge you, says the Lord, according to your ways, and according to your devices. Therefore will I judge you according to your bloodshed, and according to your devices will I judge you, you unclean, notorious, and abundantly provoking one.

²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works be exposed.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

⁷ But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance, nor on his stature, for I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.

³⁰ then shall You hear from heaven, out of Your prepared dwelling place, and shall be merciful, and shall recompense to the man according to his ways, as You shall know his heart; for You alone know the heart of the children of men;

⁶ Hell is naked before Him, and destruction has no covering.

⁹ Oh let the wickedness of sinners come to an end; and then You shall direct the righteous, O God that searches the hearts and minds.

²¹ for He knows the secrets of the heart.

⁸ If I should go up to heaven, You are there: if I should go down to hell, You are present.

²⁰ Hell and destruction are not filled, neither are the eyes of men ever satisfied. ^(27:20A) He that fixes his eye is an abomination to the Lord, and the uninstructed do not restrain their tongue.

¹⁰ I, the Lord, search the hearts, and test the mind, to give to everyone according to his ways, and according to the fruits of his doings.

²⁴ But Jesus did not trust Himself to them, because He knew all men, ²⁵ and had no need that anyone should testify concerning man, for He himself knew what was in man.

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you care for Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you care for Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I care for You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

¹⁸ I am He who lives, and became dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Death and of Hades.

²³ I will kill her children by death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

⁷ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom to inquire of the Lord, but I hate him, for he does not prophesy concerning me for good, for all his days are for evil: this is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say such things!

¹⁴ Yet such a man says to the Lord, Depart from me; I desire not to know Your ways.

⁷ He that reproves evil men shall get dishonor to himself, and he that rebukes an ungodly man shall disgrace himself. ⁸ Rebuke not evil men, lest they should hate you: rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

¹⁰ The instruction of the simple is known by them that pass by, but they that hate reproofs die disgracefully.

¹⁰ They hated him that reproved in the gates, and abhorred holy speech.

¹⁸ He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the light, because their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works be exposed. ²¹ But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God."

³ For there will be a time when they will not put up with sound doctrine, but according to their own lusts, they will heap up for themselves teachers, tickling their ears,

² And the king said to me, Why is your countenance sad, and you do not control yourself? And now this is nothing but sorrow of heart. Then I was very much alarmed,

²⁵ A terrible word troubles the heart of a righteous man, but a good message rejoices him.

¹⁵ The eyes of the wicked are always looking for evil things, but the good are always quiet.

²² A glad heart promotes health, but the bones of a sorrowful man dry up.

¹ "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

¹² For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience, that we have conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and especially toward you.

⁷ so that, on the contrary, you ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest somehow such a person be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.

¹⁰ For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, without regret; but worldly sorrow produces death.

⁶ And Solomon said, You have dealt very mercifully with Your servant David my father according as he walked before You in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You, and You have kept for him this great mercy, to set his son upon his throne, as it is this day. ⁷ And now, O Lord my God, You have appointed Your servant in the place of David my father; and I am a little child, and know not my going out and my coming in. ⁸ But Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, which cannot be numbered. ⁹ Give therefore to Your servant a heart to hear and to judge Your people justly, and to discern between good and evil: for who will be able to judge this Your great people? ¹⁰ And it was pleasing before the Lord, that Solomon asked this thing. ¹¹ And the Lord said to him, Because you have asked this thing of Me, and have not asked for yourself long life, and have not asked wealth, nor have asked for the lives of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to hear judgment; ¹² behold, I have done according to your word: behold, I have given you an understanding and wise heart: there has not been anyone like you before you, and after you there shall not arise one like you.

⁹⁷ How I have loved Your law, O Lord! It is my meditation all the day.

¹⁰⁰ I understand more that the aged; because I have sought out Your commandments.

⁵ For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and a man of understanding will gain direction;

⁹ Give an opportunity to a wise man, and he will be wiser: instruct a just man, and he will receive more instruction.

¹⁵ The heart of the sensible man purchases discretion, and the ears of the wise seek understanding.

¹⁰ who say to the prophets, Report not to us; and to them that see visions, Speak them not to us, but speak and report to us another error;

²⁰ Know that their heart is ashes, and they err, and no one is able to deliver his soul; see, you will not say, There is a lie in my right hand.

¹ But Ephraim is an evil spirit, he has chased the east wind all the day. He has multiplied empty and vain things, and made a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil has gone in the way of traffic into Egypt.

¹¹ And these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, who received the word with all readiness, each day examining the Scriptures to see whether these things might be so.

¹⁸ but grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

^{35 (37:34)} And all his sons and his daughters gathered themselves together, and came to comfort him; but he would not be comforted, saying, I will go down to my son mourning to Hades; and his father wept for him.

⁹ And Jacob said to Pharaoh, The days of the years of my life, wherein I sojourn, are one hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, they have not attained to the days of the life of my fathers, in which days they sojourned.

⁷ For we have perished in Your anger, and in Your wrath we have been troubled. ⁸ You have set our transgressions before You; our age is in the light of Your countenance. ⁹ For all our days are gone, and we have passed away in Your wrath; our years have spun out their tale as a spider.

¹³ When the heart rejoices, the countenance is cheerful, but when it is in sorrow, the countenance is sad.

²² Understanding is a fountain of life to its possessors, but the instruction of fools is evil.

²⁵ Now about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

² through whom also we have had access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. ³ And not only that, but we also rejoice in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces endurance;

¹¹ And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom now we received the reconciliation.

¹² rejoicing in hope, enduring in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;

⁵ Because just as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

⁶ In which you greatly rejoice, though for a little while now, if need be, you have been distressed by various trials, ⁷ so that the genuineness of your faith, which is more precious than gold that perishes, though being tested with fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ. ⁸ Whom not having seen, you love, in whom now not seeing, but believing, you rejoice with inexpressible joy and glorified,

¹³ but inasmuch as you partake in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, in order that also at the unveiling of His glory, you may rejoice with great happiness.

⁶ A poor man walking in truth is better than a rich liar.

¹⁰ And whatever my eyes desired, I withheld not from them, I withheld not my heart from all my mirth; for my heart rejoiced in all my labor; and this was my portion of all my labor. ¹¹ And I looked on all my works which my hands had done, and on my labor which I labored to perform, and behold, all was vanity and grasping for the wind, and there is no advantage under the sun.

¹⁸ And I hated all of my labor which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he will be wise, or a fool? And whether he will have power over all my labor in which I labored, and in which I grew wise under the sun? This is also vanity. ²⁰ So I went about to dismiss from my heart all my labor in which I had labored under the sun. ²¹ For there is such a man that his labor is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in fortitude; yet this man shall give his portion to one who has not labored for it. This is also vanity and a great evil. ²² For it happens to a man in all his labor, and in the purpose of his heart in which he labors under the sun. ²³ For all his days are sorrowful, and vexation of spirit is his; in the night also his heart rests not. This is also vanity.

¹⁰ He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he who has loved gain, in the abundance thereof. This also is vanity. ¹¹ In the multitude of good they are increased that eat it, and what virtue has the owner, but the right of beholding it with his eyes? ¹² The sleep of a servant is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain.

¹ A Song of Degrees. See now! What is so good, or what so pleasant, as for brethren to dwell together? ² It is as ointment on the head, that ran down to the beard, even the beard of Aaron; that ran down to the fringe of his clothing. ³ As the dew of Hermon that comes down on the mountains of Zion; for there, the Lord has commanded the blessing, even life forevermore.

¹ Better is a morsel with pleasure in peace, than a house full of many good things and unjust sacrifices, with strife.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and talkative and passionate woman.

⁴ Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Say to those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding." '

²³ And bring the fatted calf here and slaughter it, and let us eat and be merry;

¹ Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and acts of compassion,

¹⁶ And we have come to know and believe the love which God has in us. God is love, and he that abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

⁸ And Abram said to Lot, Let there not be strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers. ⁹ Behold, is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself from me; if you go to the left, I will go to the right, and if you go to the right, I will go to the left.

²⁴ even to his feet, and said, On me, my lord, be my wrong. Let your servant speak in your ears, and hear the words of your servant. ²⁵ Let not my lord take to heart this pestilent man, for according to his name, so is he — Nabal is his name, and folly is with him! But I, your maidservant, did not see the servants of my lord whom you sent. ²⁶ And now my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, as the Lord has kept you from coming against innocent blood and from executing vengeance for yourself, now therefore let your enemies, and those that seek evil against my lord, become as Nabal. ²⁷ And now accept this token of goodwill, which your servant has brought to my lord, and you shall give it to the servants that wait on my lord. ²⁸ Remove the trespass of your servant, I pray; for the Lord will surely make for my lord a sure house, for the Lord fights the battles of my lord, and no evil shall ever be found in you. ²⁹ And if a man shall rise up persecuting you and seeking your life, yet shall the life of my lord be bound up in the bundle of life with the Lord God, and you shall whirl the life of your enemies as in the midst of a sling. ³⁰ And it shall be when the Lord has brought to pass for my lord all the good things He has spoken concerning you, and shall appoint you to be ruler over Israel, ³¹ then this shall not be an abomination and offense to my lord, to have shed innocent blood without cause, and for my lord to have avenged himself. And so may the Lord do good to my lord, and you shall remember your maidservant, to do her good. ³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this very day to meet me. ³³ And blessed be your conduct, and blessed are you, who has hindered me this very day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself. ³⁴ But surely as the Lord God of Israel lives, who hindered me this day from doing you harm, if you had not hastened and come to meet me, then I said, Surely there shall not be one male left to Nabal till the morning. ³⁵ And David took of her hand all that she brought to him, and said to her, Go in peace to your house: see, I have heeded your voice, and accepted your petition. ³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal. And behold, he had a banquet in his house, as the banquet of a king, and the heart of Nabal was merry within him, and he was very drunk. And she told him nothing great or small till the morning light. ³⁷ And it came to pass in the morning, when Nabal recovered from his wine, that his wife told him these words. And his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it came to pass after about ten days, that the Lord struck Nabal, and he died. ³⁹ And David heard it and said, Blessed be the Lord, who has judged the cause of my reproach at the hand of Nabal, and has delivered his servant from the power of evil; and the Lord has returned the mischief of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her to himself for a wife. ⁴⁰ So the servants of David came to Abigail to Carmel, and spoke to her, saying, David has sent us to you, to take you to himself for a wife. ⁴¹ And she arose, and bowed down with her face to the earth, and said, Behold, your servant is for a handmaid, to wash the feet of your servants. ⁴² And Abigail arose and mounted her donkey, and five maidens followed her. And she went after the servants of David, and became his wife. ⁴³ And David took Ahinoam out of Jezreel, and they were both his wives. ⁴⁴ And Saul gave Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Palti the son of Laish who was of Gallim.

⁴³ And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we are older than you, we have also an interest in David above you: and why have you thus insulted us, and why was not our advice taken before that of Judah, to bring back our king? And the speech of the men of Judah was sharper than the speech of the men of Israel.

²⁹ A man slow to wrath abounds in wisdom, but a man of impatient spirit is very foolish.

¹ Anger slays even wise men, yet a submissive answer turns away wrath; but a grievous word stirs up anger.

²⁸ A perverse man spreads mischief, and will kindle a torch of deceit with mischief, and he separates friends.

²¹ A hearth for coals, and wood for fire, and a railing man for the tumult of strife.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, leave not your place; for soothing will put an end to great offenses.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

¹ Now in those days, as the disciples were increasing in number, there arose a complaint from the Greek speaking Jews against the Aramaic speaking Jews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution. ² Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, "It is not pleasing to us that we should forsake the word of God to serve tables. ³ Therefore, brothers, select seven men from among you, of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint for this need. ⁴ But we will faithfully engage in prayer and in the ministry of the word." ⁵ And the word was pleasing before all the congregation, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch,

¹⁹ So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; ²⁰ for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and strife in your heart, do not boast and lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and strife exist, there unrest and every evil deed are.

¹ And all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried; and the people wept all that night. ² And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron; and all the congregation said to them, ³ If only we would have died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we would have died in this wilderness! And why does the Lord bring us into this land to fall in war? Our wives and our children shall be for a prey: now then it is better to return into Egypt.

⁷ and spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, The land which we surveyed is indeed extremely good. ⁸ If the Lord delights in us, He will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Only depart not from the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they shall be as food to us; for the season of prosperity has departed from them, but the Lord is among us; fear them not.

⁸ Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make my way plain before Your face.

⁸ Good and upright is the Lord; therefore will He instruct sinners in the way. ⁹ The meek will He guide in judgment; the meek will He teach His ways.

¹² Who is the man that fears the Lord? He shall instruct him in the way which he has chosen.

¹¹ Teach me, O Lord, in Your way, and guide me in a right path, because of my enemies.

⁶ In all your ways acquaint yourself with her, that she may rightly direct your paths.

⁹ They are all evident to those that understand, and right to those that find knowledge.

⁵ Thistles and snares are in perverse ways, but he that keeps his soul will refrain from them.

¹³ The sluggard makes excuses, and says, There is a lion in the road, and murderers in the streets.

¹³ A sluggard when sent on a journey says, There is a lion in the road, and there are murderers in the streets.

²¹ and your ears shall hear the words of them that went after you to lead you astray, who say, This is the way, let us walk in it, whether to the right or to the left.

⁸ There shall be there a pure way, and it shall be called a holy way; and there shall not pass by there any unclean person, neither shall there be there an unclean way; but the dispersed shall walk on it, and they shall not go astray.

¹⁴ And they shall say, Clear the ways before him, and take up the stumbling blocks out of the way of My people.

¹² Honor your father and your mother, that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the good land, which the Lord your God gives to you.

³ Let everyone of you reverence his father and his mother; and you shall keep My Sabbaths: I am the Lord your God.

⁴⁸ Moreover thus said the king, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who has this day appointed one of my seed sitting on my throne, and my eyes have seen it.

⁹ But you shall by no means hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man, and will know what you shall do to him, and shall bring down his grey hairs with blood to the grave.

⁷ And it came to pass, as soon as Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be God this day, who has given to David a wise son over this numerous people.

¹⁵ Son, if your heart is wise, you shall also gladden my heart; ¹⁶ and your lips shall converse with my lips, if they are right.

²² Listen, my son, to your father which begot you, and despise not your mother because she has grown old.

³ When a man loves wisdom, his father rejoices, but he that keeps harlots will waste wealth.

¹⁷ The eye that laughs to scorn a father, and dishonors the old age of a mother, let the ravens of the valleys pick it out, and let the young eagles devour it.

²² And you know his approved character, that as a child with his father he served as a slave for the gospel.

²⁸ And He said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.

¹⁰ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and all that act accordingly have a good understanding; His praise endures forever and ever.

²³ A fool does mischief in sport, but wisdom brings forth prudence for a man.

¹² A man void of understanding sneers at his fellow citizens, but a sensible man is quiet.

⁹ The houses of transgressors will need purification, but the houses of the just are acceptable.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and departs from evil, but the fool trusts in himself, and joins himself with the transgressor.

¹⁸ As those who need correction put forth fair words to men, and he that first falls in with the proposal will be overthrown; ¹⁹ so are all that lay wait for their own friends, and when they are discovered, say, I did it in jest.

¹⁵ See then that you walk carefully, not as unwise, but as wise,

¹³ Is there anyone wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his works are in meekness of wisdom.

¹⁴ They that have no guidance fall like leaves, but in much counsel there is safety.

²⁷ Her house is the way of hell, leading down to the chambers of death.

⁸ Rebuke not evil men, lest they should hate you: rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

¹⁴ For you shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from death.

⁸ And you shall say to this people, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I have set before you the way of life, and the way of death.

¹⁴ How narrow the gate, and confined the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it!

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

²⁰ For our citizenship exists in heaven, from which also we eagerly await for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

¹ If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. ² Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

¹⁷ For the Lord your God, He is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great and mighty; the awesome God, who is no respector of persons, nor will He by any means accept a bribe; ¹⁸ executing judgment for the stranger and orphan and widow, and He loves the stranger, to give him food and clothing.

¹⁴ You shall not move the landmarks of your neighbor, which your fathers set in the inheritance, in which you have obtained a share in the land, which the Lord your God gives you to inherit.

^{11 (40:6)} And send forth messengers with wrath, and lay low every haughty one. ^{12 (40:7)} Bring down also the proud man, and consume at once the ungodly. ^{13 (40:8)} And hide them together in the earth, and fill their faces with shame.

¹ For the end, A Psalm of instruction by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, David has gone to the house of Abimelech. Why do you, O mighty man, boast of iniquity in your mischief? All the day

⁵ Therefore may God destroy you forever, may He pluck you up and utterly remove you from your dwelling, and your root from the land of the living. Pause.

⁵ who is the Father of the orphans, and Judge of the widows; such is God in His holy place. ⁶ God settles the solitary in a house; leading forth prisoners mightily, also them that act provokingly, even them that dwell in tombs.

⁶ For the Lord is on high, and yet regards the lowly; and He knows high things from afar off.

⁹ He will relieve the orphan and widow: but will utterly remove the way of sinners.

⁷ When the ungodly is overthrown, he vanishes away, but the houses of the just remain.

¹¹ The houses of ungodly men shall be utterly destroyed, but the tabernacles of them that walk uprightly shall stand.

¹⁰ Remove not the ancient landmarks, and enter not upon the possession of the fatherless;

¹² For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon everyone that is proud and haughty, and upon everyone that is high and lifted up, and they shall be brought down;

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was emboldened to act proudly, he was deposed from his royal throne, and his honor was taken from him.

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

⁵ Likewise, younger people, subject yourselves to the elders. And all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility, because "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

¹⁴ So shall the sayings of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be pleasing continually before You, O Lord my helper, and my redeemer.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous will meditate wisdom, and his tongue will speak of judgment. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; and his steps shall not slide.

¹⁶ For he rejoices in all things which God hates, and he is ruined by reason of impurity of soul. ¹⁷ The eye of the haughty, an unjust tongue, hands shedding innocent blood, ¹⁸ a heart devising evil thoughts, and feet hastening to do evil, are hateful to God. ¹⁹ An unjust witness kindles falsehoods, and brings on quarrels between brothers.

⁹ The fools also dies in sins, and uncleanness attaches to a pestilent man.

¹⁴ Cleanse your heart from wickedness, O Jerusalem, that you may be saved; how long will your grievous thoughts be within you?

³⁴ Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of his good treasure brings forth good things, and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things. ³⁶ But I say to you, that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned."

¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

²¹ Also you shall select for yourself able men out of all the people, God fearing men, righteous men, hating pride, and you shall set over the people captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens.

⁸ And you shall not receive gifts; for gifts blind the eyes of the seeing, and corrupt just words.

²⁶ And you shall not bring an abomination into your house, so should you be an accursed thing like it; you shall utterly detest it, and altogether abominate it, because it is an accursed thing.

¹⁹ they shall not pervert judgment, nor favor persons, nor receive a gift; for gifts blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

¹⁸ But keep yourselves strictly from the accursed thing, lest you set your mind upon and take of the accursed thing, and you make the camp of the children of Israel an accursed thing, and destroy us.

¹¹ The people have sinned, and transgressed the covenant which I made with them; they have stolen from the accursed thing, and put it into their store. ¹² And the children of Israel will not be able to stand before their enemies; they will turn their back before their enemies, for they have become an accursed thing: I will no longer be with you, unless you remove the accursed thing from yourselves.

²⁴ And Joshua took Achan the son of Zerah, and brought him to the valley of Achor, and his sons, his daughters, his calves, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all his property, and all the people with him; and he brought them to the valley of Achor. ²⁵ And Joshua said to Achan, Why have you destroyed us? The Lord destroy you this day! And all Israel stoned him with stones.

³ And his sons did not walk in his ways, and they turned aside after gain, and took gifts, and perverted judgments. ⁴ And the men of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel at Ramah, ⁵ and they said to him, Behold, you have grown old, and your sons walk not in your ways. And now set over us a king to judge us, as also the other nations have.

²⁷ The leprosy also of Naaman shall cleave to you, and to your seed forever. And he went out from his presence leprous, like snow.

¹⁹ These are the ways of all that perform lawless deeds; for by ungodliness they destroy their own life.

¹⁹ A righteous son is born for life, but the persecution of the ungodly ends in death.

²⁹ He that deals not graciously with his own house shall inherit the wind, and the fool shall be servant to the wise man.

²¹ A portion hastily gotten at first shall not be blessed in the end.

¹⁶ A king in need of revenues is a great oppressor, but he that hates injustice shall live a long time.

⁴ A righteous king establishes a country, but a transgressor destroys it.

⁸ Woe to them that join house to house, and add field to field, that they may take away something of their neighbor's; will you dwell alone upon the land? ⁹ For these things have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts; for though many houses should be built, many and fair houses shall be desolate, and there shall be no inhabitants in them. ¹⁰ For where ten yoke of oxen plow the land shall yield one jar full, and he that sows six homers shall produce three measures.

¹⁵ He that walks in righteousness, speaking rightly, hating transgression and iniquity, and shaking his hands from gifts, stopping his ears that he should not hear the judgment of blood, shutting his eyes that he should not see injustice. ¹⁶ He shall dwell in a high cave of a strong rock; bread shall be given to him, and his water shall be sure.

¹¹ The partridge utters her voice; she gathers eggs which she did not lay. So is a man gaining his wealth unjustly: in the midst of his days his riches shall leave him, and at his latter end he will be a fool.

⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evils. ¹⁰ You have devised shame to your house, you have utterly destroyed many nations, and your soul has sinned. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beetle out of the timber shall speak.

³ And he said to me, This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth; for every thief shall be punished with death on this side, and every false swearer shall be punished on that side. ⁴ And I will bring it forth, says the Lord Almighty, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by My name, and it shall rest in the midst of his house, and shall consume it, and the timber of it, and the stones of it.

²³ And the king said to them, You say, This is my son, even the living one, and this woman's son is the dead one. And you say, No, but the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son. ²⁴ And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. ²⁵ And the king said, Divide the live child, the suckling, in two; and give half of it to one, and half of it to the other. ²⁶ And the woman whose the living child was, answered and said to the king, (for her heart yearned over her son), I beseech you, my lord, give her the child, and by no means slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor hers; divide it. ²⁷ Then the king answered and said, Give the child to her that said, 'Give it to her, and by no means slay it: she is its mother. ²⁸ And all Israel heard this judgment which the king judged, and they feared before the king; because they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute judgment.

¹⁹ By a multitude of words you shall not escape sin, but if you refrain your lips you will be prudent.

² The tongue of the wise knows what is good, but the mouth of the foolish speaks evil things.

¹¹ A fool utters all his mind, but the wise reserves his in part.

²⁰ If you see a man hasty in his words, know that the fool has hope rather than he.

² Be not hasty with your mouth, and let not your heart be swift to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven above, and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.

⁶ Do not allow your mouth to lead your flesh to sin; and say not in the presence of God, It was an error; lest God be angry at your voice, and destroy the works of your hands.

¹² The words of a wise mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow him up. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is folly, and the end of his talk mischievous madness. ¹⁴ A fool moreover multiplies words. No man knows what has been, nor what will be. Who shall tell him what will come after him?

¹⁰ For there are also many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, ¹¹ whom it is necessary to shut their mouths, who overturn whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. Thus the tongue is set among our members, as that which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every kind of both beasts and birds, of both reptiles and sea creatures, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unrestrainable evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁵ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be prepared with a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;

¹⁸ For when they speak haughty words of emptiness, they entice through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, those who are escaping from those who are living in error,

¹ Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You overlook us in times of need, in affliction?

⁴¹ They cried, but there was no deliverer: even to the Lord, but He hearkened not to them.

¹⁵ The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer; ¹⁶ but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to destroy their memorial from the earth. The righteous cried, and the Lord hearkened to them, ¹⁷ and delivered them out of all their afflictions.

¹⁸ If I have regarded iniquity in my heart, let not the Lord hearken to me. ¹⁹ Therefore God has hearkened to me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.

²⁷ For behold, they that remove themselves far from You shall perish; You have destroyed everyone that goes a whoring from You.

¹⁸ The Lord is near to all that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth. ¹⁹ He will perform the desire of them that fear Him: and He will hear their supplication, and save them.

⁸ The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord, but the prayers of them that walk honestly are acceptable to Him.

⁸ For My counsels are not as your counsels, nor are My ways as your ways, says the Lord. ⁹ But as the heaven is distant from the earth, so is My way distant from your ways, and your thoughts from My mind.

⁴⁶ "And these shall go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

³¹ Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.

²⁶ Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. ²⁷ But He that searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes on behalf of the saints according to the will of God.

¹² that at that time you were apart from Christ, being estranged from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, not having hope and atheists in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have come to be near by the blood of Christ.

¹⁶ Confess your transgressions to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of the righteous is very powerful. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man of similar nature to us, and with a prayer, he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and it did not rain upon the land for three years and six months. ¹⁸ And again he prayed, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

¹² For the eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears open to their prayer; but the face of the LORD is against those doing evil."

⁸ And now our God has dealt mercifully with us, so as to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us an establishment in the place of His sanctuary, to enlighten our eyes, and give us a measure of revival in our bondage.

¹⁵ Blessed are the people that knows the joyful sound; they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance.

⁸ Then shall there be health to your body, and good keeping to your bones.

⁹ The righteous always have light, but the light of the ungodly is quenched. ^(13:9A) Crafty souls go astray in sins, but just men have pity, and are merciful.

²⁵ As cold water is agreeable to a thirsting soul, so is a good message from a land far off.

⁷ Moreover the light is sweet, and it is good for the eyes to see the sun.

¹¹ and your God shall be with you continually, and you shall be satisfied according as your soul desires; and your bones shall be made fat, and shall be as a well-watered garden, and as a fountain from which the water has not failed.

¹⁰ Then the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. ¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. ¹² And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Baby wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." ¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ¹⁴ "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" ¹⁵ So it was, when the angels had departed from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go then to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us." ¹⁶ And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in a manger. ¹⁷ And when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. ¹⁸ And all those who heard it marveled about the things spoken by the shepherds to them. ¹⁹ But Mary treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart.

²³ The city had no need of the sun nor of the moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

⁵ And night shall not exist. and there shall not be a need of a lamp and of light, because the Lord God shall illuminate them. And they shall reign forever and ever.

⁸ Rebuke not evil men, lest they should hate you: rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. ⁹ Give an opportunity to a wise man, and he will be wiser: instruct a just man, and he will receive more instruction.

²⁰ If you walk with wise men you shall be wise, but he that walks with fools shall be known.

⁵ A fool scorns his father's instruction, but he that keeps his commandments is more prudent. In abounding righteousness is great strength, but the ungodly shall utterly perish from the earth.

³ Give heed with your ears, and follow My ways; hearken to Me, and your soul shall live in prosperity; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, the sure mercies of David.

³ You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in Me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit on its own, unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out in order that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

¹⁸ And if any man has a disobedient and contentious son, who hearkens not to the voice of his father and the voice of his mother, and they should correct him, and he should not hearken to them;

²⁰ and they shall say to the men of their city, This our son is disobedient and contentious, he hearkens not to our voice, he is a reveler and a drunkard.

¹⁷ Seeing you have hated instruction, and have cast My words behind you.

⁷ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and there is good understanding to all that practice it: and godliness toward God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will nullify wisdom and instruction.

²⁴ Since I called, and you did not hear, and I spoke at length, and you gave no heed; ²⁵ but you disdained my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs; ²⁶ therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against you when ruin comes upon you: ²⁷ yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and your overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you. ²⁸ For it shall be that when you call upon me, I will not listen to you: wicked men shall seek me, but shall not find me. ²⁹ For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord: ³⁰ neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs. ³¹ Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness. ³² For because they wronged the simple, they shall be slain; and an inquisition shall ruin the ungodly. ³³ But he that listens to me shall dwell in confidence, and shall rest securely from all evil.

¹¹ And you repent at last, when the flesh of your body is consumed, ¹² and you shall say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart avoided reproofs! ¹³ I heard not the voice of him that instructed me, and taught me, neither did I incline my ear.

³³ (TEXT OMITTED) ³⁴ watching daily at my doors, waiting at the posts of my entrances. ³⁵ For my outgoings are the outgoings of life, and in them is prepared favor from the Lord. ³⁶ But they that sin against me act wickedly against their own souls, and they that hate me love death.

¹⁴ An upright heart seeks discretion, but the mouth of the uninstructed will experience evils.

²¹ The ways of a foolish man are void of sense, but a wise man walks straight.

¹⁶ Why has the fool wealth? For a senseless man will not be able to purchase wisdom. ^(17:16A) He that exalts his own house seeks ruin, and he that turns aside from instruction shall fall into mischief.

¹ A reprover is better than a stiff-necked man, for when the latter is suddenly set on fire, there shall be no remedy.

⁵ Why should you be smitten anymore, transgressing more and more? The whole head is pained, and the whole heart sad.

³ O Lord, Your eyes are upon faithfulness. You have scourged them, but they have not grieved; You have consumed them; but they would not receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock; and they would not return.

²⁴ "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock: ²⁵ and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and fell against that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock. ²⁶ And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them, will be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand: ²⁷ and the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And its fall was great."

¹⁵ looking diligently lest anyone fall from the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness growing up cause trouble, and through this many be defiled;

²² But become doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. Be zealous therefore, and repent.

¹¹ Come, you children, hear me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

¹³ The fear of the Lord hates unrighteousness, insolence, pride, and the ways of wicked men; and I hate the perverse ways of bad men.

¹² Before ruin a man's heart is exalted, and before honor it is humble.

⁶ Be not boastful in the presence of the king, and remain not in the places of princes; ⁷ for it is better for you that it should be said, Come up to me, than that one should humble you in the presence of the prince; speak of that which your eyes have seen.

²³ Pride brings a man low, but the Lord upholds the humble-minded with honor.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted."

⁵ Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who, existing in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, ⁷ but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming to be in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself, becoming obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. ⁹ Therefore God also has highly exalted Him, and has graciously given Him a name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee may bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue may confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹⁰ Be humbled before the Lord, and He will exalt you.
