²⁷ A son who ceases to attend to the instruction of a father will cherish evil designs.

¹ And if there arise within you a prophet, or one who dreams a dream, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and the sign or the wonder come to pass which he spoke to you, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you know not; ³ you shall not hearken to the words of that prophet, or the dreamer of that dream, because the Lord your God is testing you, to see whether you love your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ You shall follow the Lord your God, and fear Him, and you shall hear His voice, and attach yourselves to Him.

²² And the Lord said to him, In what way? And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall deceive him; yea, and you shall prevail: go forth, and do so. ²³ And now, behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the Lord has spoken evil against you. ²⁴ And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, What sort of a spirit of the Lord has spoken in you? ²⁵ And Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see in that day, when you shall go into an innermost chamber to hide yourself there. ²⁶ And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and take him away to Semer the keeper of the city; ²⁷ and tell Joash the king's son to put this fellow in prison, and to feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I return in peace. ²⁸ And Micaiah said, If you ever return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me.

⁷ All things are adverse to a foolish man, but wise lips are the weapons of discretion.

¹⁵ "But beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

⁶ Then Jesus said to them, "Look out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees."

¹² Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

²⁴ Then He said to them, "Watch what you hear. By what measure you measure, it will be measured out to you; and more will be added to you who hear.

⁶ And answering He said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: 'This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. ⁷ And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' ⁸ "For having left the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men--the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other similar things you do." ⁹ And He said to them, "Well do you set aside the commandment of God, so that you may keep your tradition. ¹⁰ For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'Whoever speaks evil of father or mother, let him surely die.' ¹¹ But you say, 'If a man says to his father or to his mother, "Whatever you might be profited by me is Corban"--' (that is, a gift), ¹² then you no longer allow him to do anything for his father or for his mother, ¹³ thus nullifying the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down. And many similar things you do." ¹⁴ And having summoned all the crowd, He said to them, "Hear Me, all of you and understand:

⁵ But they will by no means follow a stranger, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers."

¹³ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

¹⁴ that we may no longer be infants, being tossed as by waves, and being carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in regard to deceitful scheming,

⁷ But reject profane and old wives' tales, and exercise yourself unto godliness.

³ If anyone teaches differently and does not consent to sound words, even those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, ⁴ he is puffed up, understanding nothing, but is morbidly concerned with disputes and word battles, from which come envy, strife, slanders, evil suspicions, ⁵ constant wranglings of men of corrupt minds and having been deprived of the truth, supposing that godliness is a means of profit. Withdraw from such people.

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master, the One having bought them, and bringing upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many will follow after their debaucheries, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

¹⁰ If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house, and do not greet him;

² "I know your works, and your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you tested those who say that they are apostles and they are not, and you found them to be liars;
