²⁷ The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord, for they offer them wickedly.

¹² Then I said, Now will the Philistines come down to me to Gilgal, and I have not sought the face of the Lord. So I forced myself and offered the whole burnt offering. ¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly, for you have not kept my command, which the Lord commanded you, as now the Lord would have confirmed your kingdom over Israel forever.

²¹ But the people took of the spoils, the best flocks and herds out of that which was destroyed, to sacrifice before the Lord our God in Gilgal. ²² And Samuel said, Does the Lord take as great pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in hearing the words of the Lord? Behold, obedience is better than a good sacrifice, and hearkening than the fat of rams. ²³ For sin is as divination; idols bring on pain and grief. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, the Lord also shall reject you from being king over Israel.

⁸ I will not reprove you on account of your sacrifices; for your whole burnt offerings are before Me continually. ⁹ I will take no bulls out of your house, nor male goats out of your flocks. ¹⁰ For all the wild beasts of the thicket are Mine, the cattle on the mountains, and oxen. ¹¹ I know all the birds of the sky; and the beauty of the field is Mine. ¹² If I should be hungry, I will not tell you; for the world is Mine, and all its fullness. ¹³ Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

⁸ The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord, but the prayers of them that walk honestly are acceptable to Him.

⁹ He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even he has made his prayer abominable.

¹¹ Of what value to Me is the abundance of your sacrifices? Says the Lord; I am full of whole burnt offerings of rams; and I delight not in the fat of lambs, and the blood of bulls and goats; ¹² neither shall you come with these to appear before Me; for who has required these things at your hands? You shall no more tread My court. ¹³ Though you bring fine flour, it is futile; incense is an abomination to Me; I cannot bear your new moons, and your Sabbaths, and the great day; ¹⁴ your fasting, and rest from work, your new moons also, and your feasts My soul hates; you have become loathsome to Me; I will no more pardon your sins. ¹⁵ When you stretch forth your hands, I will turn away My eyes from you; and though you make many supplications, I will not hearken to you; for your hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ Wash, and be clean; remove your iniquities from your souls before My eyes; cease from your iniquities;

³ But the transgressor that sacrifices a calf to Me, is as he that kills a dog; and he that offers fine flour, as one that offers swine's blood; he that gives frankincense for a memorial, is as a blasphemer. Yet they have chosen their own ways, and their soul has delighted in their abominations.

²⁰ Why do you bring Me frankincense from Sheba, and cinnamon from a land afar off? Your whole burnt offerings are not acceptable, and your sacrifices have not been pleasing to Me.

¹¹ Is My house, which is called by My name, a den of robbers in your eyes? And behold, I have seen it, says the Lord. ¹² For go to My place which is in Shiloh, where I caused My name to dwell before, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.

²¹ I hate, I reject your feasts, and I will not smell your grain offerings in your general assemblies. ²² Wherefore if you should bring Me your whole burnt sacrifices and grain offerings, I will not accept them, neither will I have respect to your grand peace offerings.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
