Proverbs 26 Cross References - CAB

1 As dew in harvest, and as rain in summer, so honor is not seemly for a fool. 2 As birds and sparrows fly, so a curse shall not come upon anyone without a cause. 3 As a whip for a horse, and a goad for a donkey, so is a rod for a simple nation. 4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you become like him. 5 Yet answer a fool according to his folly, lest he seem wise in his own conceit. 6 He that sends a message by a foolish messenger procures for himself a reproach from his own ways. 7 As well take away the motion of the legs, as transgression from the mouth of fools. 8 He that binds up a stone in a sling, is like one that gives glory to a fool. 9 Thorns grow in the hand of a drunkard, and servitude in the hand of fools. 10 All the flesh of fools endures much hardship, for their fury is brought to nought. 11 As when a dog returns to his own vomit, and becomes abominable, so is a fool who returns in his wickedness to his own sin. (26:11A) There is a shame that brings sin, and there is a shame that is glory and grace. 12 I have seen a man who seemed to himself to be wise; but a fool had more hope than he. 13 A sluggard when sent on a journey says, There is a lion in the road, and there are murderers in the streets. 14 As a door turns on the hinge, so does a sluggard on his bed. 15 A sluggard having hid his hand in his bosom, will not be able to bring it up to his mouth. 16 A sluggard seems to himself wiser than one who most satisfactorily brings back a message. 17 As he that lays hold of a dog's tail, so is he that makes himself the champion of another's cause. 18 As those who need correction put forth fair words to men, and he that first falls in with the proposal will be overthrown; 19 so are all that lay wait for their own friends, and when they are discovered, say, I did it in jest. 20 With much wood fire increases, but where there is not a double-minded man, strife ceases. 21 A hearth for coals, and wood for fire, and a railing man for the tumult of strife. 22 The words of a talebearer are soft; but they strike even to the inmost parts of the bowels. 23 Silver dishonestly given is to be considered as a potsherd; smooth lips cover a grievous heart. 24 A weeping enemy promises all things with his lips, but in his heart he contrives deceit. 25 Though your enemy intreat you with a loud voice, consent not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. 26 He that hides enmity frames deceit, but being easily discerned, exposes his own sins in the public assemblies. 27 He that digs a pit for his neighbor shall fall into it, and he that rolls a stone, rolls it upon himself. 28 A lying tongue hates the truth, and an unguarded mouth causes tumults.

And the men of Gilead said, Are you an Ephraimite? And he said, No. 6 Then they said to him, Say now Stachys. And he did not correctly pronounce it. Have we indeed eaten of the king's food? Or has he given us a gift, or has he sent us a portion? 43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we are older than you, we have also an interest in David above you: and why have you thus insulted us, and why was not our advice taken before that of Judah, to bring back our king? Esther 3:1-15

1 And after this King Artaxerxes highly honored Haman, son of Hammedatha, the Bugaean, and exalted him, and set his seat above all his friends. 2 And everyone in the palace bowed down to him, for so the king had given orders to do; but Mordecai did not bow down to him. 3 And those in the king's palace said to Mordecai, Mordecai, why do you transgress the commands of the king? 4 Thus they spoke daily to him, but he hearkened not unto them; so they told it to Haman that Mordecai resisted the commands of the king; and Mordecai had shown to them that he was a Jew. 5 And when Haman understood that Mordecai did not bow down to him, he was greatly enraged, 6 and took counsel to utterly destroy all the Jews who were under the rule of Artaxerxes. 7 And he made a decree in the twelfth year of the reign of Artaxerxes, and cast lots daily and monthly, to slay in one day the race of Mordecai. And the lot fell on the fourteenth day of the month, which is Adar. 8 And he spoke to King Artaxerxes, saying, There is a nation scattered among the nations in all your kingdom, and their laws differ from those of all the other nations; and they disobey the laws of the king. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them alone. 9 If it seems good to the king, let him make a decree to destroy them, and I will remit into the king's treasury ten thousand talents of silver. 10 And the king took off his ring, and gave it into the hands of Haman, to seal the decrees against the Jews. 11 And the king said to Haman, Keep the silver, and treat the nation as you will. 12 So the king's recorders were called in the first month, on the thirteenth day, and they wrote as Haman commanded to the captains and governors in every province, from India even to Ethiopia, to a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, and to the rulers of the nations according to their many languages, in the name of King Artaxerxes. 13 And the message was sent by posts throughout the kingdom of Artaxerxes, to utterly destroy the race of the Jews on the first day of the twelfth month, which is Adar, and to plunder their goods. And the following is the copy of the letter: The great King Artaxerxes writes thus to the rulers and inferior governors of a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, from India even to Ethiopia, who hold authority under him. Ruling over many nations, and having obtained dominion over the whole world, I was minded, (not elated by the confidence of power but ever conducting myself with great moderation and with gentleness) to make the lives of my subjects continually tranquil, desiring both to maintain the kingdom quite and orderly to its utmost limits, and to restore the peace desired by all men. But when I had inquired of my counselors how this should be brought to pass, Haman, who excels in sound judgment among us, and has been manifestly well inclined without wavering and with unshaken fidelity, and has obtained the second post in the kingdom, informed us that a certain ill-disposed people is mixed up with all the tribes throughout the world, opposed in their laws to every other nation, and continually neglecting the commands of the kings, so that the united government blamelessly administered by us is not quietly established. Having then conceived that this nation alone of all others is continually set in opposition to every man, introducing as a change a foreign code of laws, and injuriously plotting to accomplish the worst of evils against our interests, and against the happy establishment of the monarchy; we have accordingly appointed those who are signified to you in the letters written by Haman, who is set over the public affairs and is our second governor, to utterly destroy them all with their wives and children by the swords of the enemies, without pitying or sparing any, on the fourteenth day of the twelfth month (which is Adar) of the present year; that the people aforetime and now ill-disposed to us having been violently consigned to death in one day, may hereafter secure to us continually a well- constituted and quiet state of affairs. 14 And the copies of the letters were published in every province; and an order was given to all the nations to be ready against that day. 15 And the business was hastened, and that at Susa. And the king and Haman began to drink, but the city was troubled.

Jeremiah 9:2-8

2 Who would give me a most distant lodge in the wilderness, that I might leave my people, and depart from them? For they all commit adultery, an assembly of treacherous men. 3 And they have bent their tongue like a bow; falsehood and not faithfulness has prevailed upon the earth; for they have gone on from evil to evil, and have not known Me, says the Lord. 4 Beware, each of his neighbor, and trust not in your brother, for everyone will surely supplant, and every friend will walk craftily. 5 Everyone will mock his friend; they will not speak truth; their tongue has learned to speak falsehoods; they have committed iniquity, they ceased not, so as to return. 6 There is usury upon usury, and deceit upon deceit: they would not know Me, says the Lord. 7 Therefore thus says the Lord, Behold, I will try them with fire, and prove them; for I will do thus because of the wickedness of the daughter of My people. 8 Their tongue is a wounding arrow; the words of their mouth are deceitful. One speaks peaceably to his neighbor, but in himself retains enmity.

Jeremiah 12:6

6 For even your brothers and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; and they have cried out, they are gathered together in pursuit of you. Do not trust in them, though they shall speak fair words to you.

Jeremiah 36:17-18

17 And they asked Baruch, saying, Where did you write all these words? 18 And Baruch said, Jeremiah told me from his own mouth all these words, and I wrote them in a book.

Ezekiel 22:9

9 There are robbers in you, to shed blood in you; and in you they have eaten upon the mountains; they have wrought ungodliness in the midst of you.

Ezekiel 33:31

31 They approach you as a people that come together, and sit before you, and hear your words, but they will not do them; for there is falsehood in their mouth, and their heart goes after their pollutions.

Micah 7:5

5 Trust not in friends, and confide not in guides: beware of your wife, so as not to commit anything to her.

Matthew 7:4-5

4 Or how will you say to your brother, 'Permit me to remove the speck from your eye'; and look, there is a plank in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother's eye.

Matthew 12:45

45 Then he goes and takes along with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and entering in they dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Thus it shall also be for this wicked generation."

Matthew 15:1-3

1 Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem approached Jesus, saying, 2 "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands whenever they eat bread." 3 He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God on account of your tradition?

Matthew 16:1-4

1 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him, they asked Him to show them a sign out of heaven. 2 He answered and said to them, "When evening comes you say, 'Fine weather, for the sky is red'. 3 And in the morning, 'Today will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' Hypocrites! Indeed you know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. 4 An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." And leaving them behind He went away.

Matthew 21:23-27

23 Now as He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?" 24 But Jesus answered and said to them, "I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: 25 The baptism of John--where was it from? From heaven or from men?" And they were arguing among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' 26 "But if we should say, 'From men,' we fear the crowd, for all consider John as a prophet." 27 So they answered Jesus and said, "We do not know." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

Matthew 21:31

31 Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Assuredly I say to you, that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.

Matthew 22:15-32

15 Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might trap Him in His speech. 16 And they sent their disciples to Him with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You show favoritism to anyone. 17 Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" 18 But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, "Why do you test Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show Me the tax money." So they brought Him a denarius. 20 And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" 21 They said to Him, "Caesar's." And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." 22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and leaving Him, they went away. 23 The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him, and they questioned Him, 24 saying: "Teacher, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife as next of kin, and shall raise up offspring for his brother. 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first died, after having married, and having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother. 26 Likewise the second also, and the third, up to the seventh. 27 Last of all the woman died also. 28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her." 29 Jesus answered and said to them, "You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection neither do they marry, nor are they given in marriage, but they are like angels of God in heaven. 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, 32 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."

Matthew 23:27

27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and of all uncleanness.

Luke 12:14

14 But He said to him, "Man, who appointed Me a judge or an arbitrator over you?" 15 And He said to them, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." 16 Then He told a parable to them, saying: "The field of a certain rich man produced well. 17 And he reasoned within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have nowhere to gather my crops?' 18 So he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and I will build bigger ones, and there I will gather all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid away for many years; relax; eat, drink, and be merry." ' 20 But God said to him, 'You fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have prepared?' 21 So is he who accumulates treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

Luke 13:23-30

23 Then one said to Him, "Lord, are there few who are saved?" And He said to them, 24 Strive to enter through the narrow gate, because many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. 25 When once the Master of the house has risen up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open for us,' and answering He will say to you, 'I do not know you, where you are from.' 26 Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.' 27 But He will say, 'I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.' 28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out. 29 And they will come from the east and the west, and the north and the south, and will recline to eat in the kingdom of God. 30 And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last."

Luke 18:11

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

20 And having watched Him closely, they sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor. 21 Then they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth:

John 8:40

40 But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has spoken to you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

John 8:44-49

44 You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you desire to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar, and the father of lies. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear them, because you are not of God." 48 Then the Jews answered and said to Him, "Do we not say well that You are a Samaritan, and You have a demon?" 49 Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.

John 9:26-33

26 Then they said to him again, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?" 27 He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you wish to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?" 28 Then they reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses; but as for this Man, we do not know where He is from." 30 The man answered and said to them, "Why, this is a remarkable thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He opened my eyes! 31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him. 32 Since eternity past it was unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one having been born blind. 33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing."

John 10:32-33

32 Jesus answered them, "Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?" 33 The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."

John 15:22-24

22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse concerning their sin. 23 He who hates Me hates My Father also. 24 If I had not done the works among them which no one else has done, they would have no sin; but now they have both seen and they have hated both Me and My Father.

21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving behind an example for you, that you should follow in His footsteps, 22 "Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth"; 23 who, being verbally abused, did not return verbal insults, when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;
