¹ My son, keep my words, and hide my commandments with you. ^(7:2) My son, honor the Lord, and you shall be strong; and fear none but Him. ² Keep my commandments, and you shall live; and keep my words as the pupils of your eyes. ³ And bind them on your fingers, and write them on the table of your heart. ⁴ Say that wisdom is your sister, and gain prudence as an acquaintance for yourself; ⁵ that she may keep you from the strange and wicked woman, if she should assail you with flattering words. ⁶ For she looks from a window out of her house into the streets, at one whom she may see of the senseless ones, a young man devoid of understanding, ⁷ passing by the corner in the passages near her house, ⁸ and speaking, in the dark of the evening, ⁹ when there happens to be the stillness of night and of darkness: ¹⁰ and the woman meets him having the appearance of a harlot, that causes the hearts of young men to flutter. ¹¹ And she is fickle and rebellious, and her feet abide not at home. ¹² For at one time she wanders outside, and at another time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner. ¹³ Then she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him, ¹⁴ I have a peace offering; today I pay my vows: ¹⁵ therefore I came forth to meet you, desiring your face; and I have found you. ¹⁶ I have spread my bed with sheets, and I have covered it with double tapestry from Egypt. ¹⁷ I have sprinkled my couch with saffron, and my house with cinnamon. ¹⁸ Come, and let us enjoy love until the morning; come, and let us embrace in love. ¹⁹ For my husband is not at home, and has gone on a long journey, ²⁰ having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house. ²¹ So with much conversation she prevailed on him to go astray, and with the snares of her lips forced him from the right path. ²² And he followed her, being gently led on, as that of an ox led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a deer shot in the liver with an arrow: ²³ and he hastens as a bird into a snare, not knowing that he is running for his life. ²⁴ Now then my son, listen to me, and attend to the words of my mouth. ²⁵ Let not your heart turn aside to her ways, ²⁶ for she has wounded and cast down many, and those whom she has slain are innumerable. ²⁷ Her house is the way of hell, leading down to the chambers of death.

²⁸ and a curse, if you do not hearken to the commands of the Lord our God, as many as I command you this day, and you wander from the way which I have commanded you, having gone to serve other gods, which you know not.

²² And receive a declaration from His mouth, and lay up His words in your heart.

⁸ Hear, my son, the instruction of your father, and reject not the rules of your mother.

¹ My son, if you will receive the utterance of my commandment, and hide it within you; ² your ear shall hearken to wisdom; you shall also apply your heart to understanding, and shall apply it to the instruction of your son. ³ For if you shall call to wisdom, and utter your voice for understanding; ⁴ and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures; ⁵ then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His presence come knowledge and understanding, ⁷ and He treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: He will protect their way;

¹ My son, forget not my laws, but let your heart keep my words:

¹⁴ The wise will hide discretion, but the mouth of the hasty draws near to ruin.

¹⁵ But that which fell on the good ground, these are such who when they heard the word, with a noble and good heart, hold on to it and bear fruit with endurance.

²⁸ But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

²³ Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and we will make Our home with him.

²⁰ Remember the word which I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

³ Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and who keep the things having been written in it; for the time is near.

⁹ Then he said to me, "See that you do not! For I am your fellow servant, and I am of your brothers the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."

⁵ So you shall keep all My ordinances, and all My judgments, and do them; which if a man shall do, he shall live in them: I am the Lord your God.

¹⁰ He maintained him in the wilderness, in burning thirst and a dry land: He led him about and instructed him, and kept him as the apple of His eye.

⁸ Keep me as the apple of Your eye from those that resist Your right hand; You shall screen me by the covering of Your wings,

⁴ who spoke and instructed me, saying, Let our speech be fixed in your heart, keep our commandments, forget them not:

¹³ Take hold of my instruction; do not let it go, but keep it for yourself, for your life.

³ Give heed with your ears, and follow My ways; hearken to Me, and your soul shall live in prosperity; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, the sure mercies of David.

⁸ For thus says the Lord Almighty; After the glory has he sent Me to the nations that spoiled you: for he that touches you is as one that touches the apple of His eye.

⁴⁹ For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that His command is eternal life. Therefore, whatever I speak, as the Father has said to Me, thus I speak."

²¹ He that has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will manifest Myself to him."

¹⁴ You are My friends if you do what I command you.

³ Now by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. ⁴ He who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

¹ Everyone that believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone that loves Him that begot also loves him that is begotten of Him. ² By this we know that we love the children of God, whenever we love God and keep His commandments. ³ For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome,

¹⁴ Blessed are those who do His commandments, so that their right shall be to the tree of life, and they may enter by the gates into the city.

⁸ And you shall fasten them for a sign upon your hand, and it shall be immovable before your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the lintels of your houses and of your gates.

¹⁸ And you shall store these words in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and it shall be fixed before your eyes. ¹⁹ And you shall teach them to your children, so as to speak about them when you sit in the house, and when you walk by the way, and when you sleep, and when you rise up. ²⁰ And you shall write them on the doorposts of your houses, and on your gates;

³ Let not mercy and truth forsake you; but bind them about your neck:

²¹ but bind them upon your soul continually, and hang them as a chain about your neck.

⁸ Now then sit down and write these words on a tablet, and in a book; for these things shall be for many long days, even forever.

³³ For this is My covenant which I will make with the house of Israel: after those days, says the Lord, I will surely put My laws into their mind, and write them on their hearts. And I will be to them a God, and they shall be to Me a people.

³ being made known that you are the letter of Christ, which was ministered by us, having been written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not in tablets of stone but in tablets of flesh, namely in hearts.

¹⁴ I have called upon death to be my father, and corruption to be my mother and sister.

² your ear shall hearken to wisdom; you shall also apply your heart to understanding, and shall apply it to the instruction of your son. ³ For if you shall call to wisdom, and utter your voice for understanding; ⁴ and if you shall seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures;

¹ I would that you, O my kinsman, were he that nursed at the breasts of my mother; when I found you without, I would kiss you; yes, they should not despise me.

⁴⁹ And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold; My mother, and My brothers! ⁵⁰ For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

²⁷ And it happened, while He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb which bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!" ²⁸ But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

¹⁶ to remove you far from the straight way, and to estrange you from a righteous purpose. My son, let not evil counsel overtake you,

³ for honey drops from the lips of a harlot, who for a season pleases your palate;

²⁴ to keep you continually from a married woman, and from the flattery of a strange tongue.

⁸ And he remained there a long time, and Abimelech the king of Gerar leaned to look through the window, and saw Isaac sporting with Rebecca his wife.

²⁸ The mother of Sisera looked down through the window out of the loophole, saying, Why was his chariot ashamed? Why did the wheels of his chariots tarry?

¹⁶ And it came to pass as the ark arrived at the City of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked through the window, and saw King David dancing and playing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

⁷ The law of the Lord is perfect, converting souls; the testimony of the Lord is faithful, instructing babes.

¹³⁰ The manifestation of Your words will enlighten, and instruct the simple.

⁴ that he might give prudence to the simple, and to the young man discernment and understanding.

²² So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and have become subject to reproofs.

³² For because they wronged the simple, they shall be slain; and an inquisition shall ruin the ungodly.

³² But the adulterer through lack of understanding procures destruction to his soul.

⁵ O you simple, understand prudence, and you that are untaught, take in knowledge.

⁴ Whoever is foolish, let him turn aside to me: and to them that want understanding she says,

¹⁶ saying, Whoever is the most senseless of you, let him turn aside to me; and I exhort those that want prudence, saying,

¹³ He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod.

¹¹ He that tills his own land shall be satisfied with bread; but they that pursue vanities are void of understanding. ^(12:11A) He that enjoys himself in banquets of wine, shall leave dishonor in his own strongholds.

¹⁵ The simple believes every word, but the sensible man considers his steps.

¹⁸ Fools shall have mischief for their portion, but the prudent shall quickly take hold of understanding.

²⁵ When a pestilent character is scourged, a simple man is made wiser, and if you reprove a wise man, he will understand discretion.

³ An intelligent man seeing a bad man severely punished is himself instructed, but fools pass by and are punished.

³⁰ A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard.

¹² A wise man, when evils are approaching, hides himself, but fools pass on, and will be punished.

²² For the princes of My people have not known Me, they are foolish and unwise children. They are wise to do evil, but how to do good they have not known.

¹⁶ So Jesus said, "Are you also still without understanding?

¹⁸ For such people do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and through smooth speech and flattering, they deceive the hearts of the innocent. ¹⁹ For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I rejoice on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and innocent to what is evil.

¹ And Sampson went to Gaza, and he saw a harlot there, and went in to her.

² And it came to pass toward evening, that David arose off his couch, and walked on the roof of the king's house, and saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. ³ And David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba the daughter of Eliab, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

¹⁴ Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors. ¹⁵ In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, do not go there; but turn from them, and pass away.

⁸ Remove your way far from her; draw not near to the doors of her house:

¹² For at one time she wanders outside, and at another time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner.

¹⁸ Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits fornication sins against his own body.

²² Flee youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

²³ but others save with fear, snatching them out of the fire, hating even the garment having been stained by the flesh.

¹¹ But it came to pass on a certain day, that Joseph went into the house to do his business, and there was no one of the household inside.

⁶ And it shall be kept by you till the fourteenth of this month, and all the multitude of the congregation of the children of Israel shall kill it toward evening.

¹³ Why then has He not visited these? Forasmuch as they were upon the earth, and took no notice, and they knew not the way of righteousness, neither have they walked in their appointed paths? ¹⁴ But having known their works, He delivered them into darkness; and in the night one will be as a thief. ¹⁵ And the eye of the adulterer has watched for the darkness, saying, Eye shall not see me, and he puts a covering on his face.

¹² The night is advanced, the day is at hand. Therefore let us put off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. ¹³ Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelries and drinking bouts, not in orgies and debaucheries, not in strife and jealousy. ¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.

¹¹ And have no partnership with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

^{1 (3:2)} Now the serpent was the most crafty of all the brutes on the earth, which the Lord God made. And the serpent said to the woman, Has God truly said, Eat not of every tree of the garden?

¹⁴ And having taken off the garments of her widowhood from her, she put on a veil, and ornamented her face, and sat by the gates of Aenan, which is in the way to Timna, for she saw that Shelah was grown; but she was not given to him as a wife. ¹⁵ And when Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; for she covered her face, and he did not recognize her.

²² And it came to pass when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And Jehu said, How can it be peace, as long as there are the harlotries of your mother Jezebel, and her abundant witchcrafts?

³⁰ Now when Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel has heard of it, and colored her eyes, and adorned her head, and looked out through the window.

¹⁶ Thus says the Lord, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and have walked with an outstretched neck, and winking with their eyes, and jingling with their feet, at the same time drawing their garments in trains, and at the same time sporting with their feet; ¹⁷ therefore the Lord will humble the chief daughters of Zion, and the Lord will expose their form in that day; ¹⁸ and the Lord will take away the glory of their garments, the curls and the fringes, and the crescents, ¹⁹ and the chains, and the ornaments of their faces, ²⁰ and the array of glorious ornaments, and the armlets, and the bracelets, and the wreathed work, and the finger rings, and the ornaments for the right hand, ²¹ and the earrings, and the garments with scarlet borders, ²² and the garments with purple grounds, and the shawls to be worn in the house, and the Spartan transparent dresses, ²³ and those made of fine linen, and the purple ones, and the scarlet ones, and the fine linen, interwoven with gold and purple, and the light coverings for couches. ²⁴ And instead of a sweet smell there shall be dust; and instead of a sash, you shall gird yourself with a rope; and instead of a golden ornament for your head, you shall have baldness on account of your works; and instead of a tunic with a scarlet ground, you shall gird yourself with sackcloth.

¹⁶ Take a harp, go about, O city, you harlot that have been forgotten; play well on the harp, sing many songs, that you may be remembered.

³⁰ And what will you do? Though you clothe yourself with scarlet, and adorn yourself with golden ornaments; though you adorn your eyes with paint, your beauty shall be in vain. Your lovers have rejected you, they seek your life.

² For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy, for I have betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. ³ But I fear, lest perhaps as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

⁹ Likewise also that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and discretion, not with braids or gold or pearls or expensive clothing,

³ And he led me away in the Spirit, into a deserted place. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast being filled with names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. ⁴ And the woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, gilded with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup being filled with abominations and the filthiness of the fornication of the earth. ⁵ And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

⁹ And He said to him, Where is Sarah your wife? And he answered and said, Behold, in the tent.

¹³ A foolish and bold woman, who knows not modesty, comes to want a morsel.

²⁴ It is better to dwell on a corner of the roof, than with a railing woman in an open house.

¹⁴ Whosoever shall bless a friend in the morning with a loud voice, shall seem to differ nothing from one who curses him. ¹⁵ On a stormy day drops of rain drive a man out of his house, so also does a railing woman drive a man out of his own house.

¹⁰ Who shall find a virtuous woman? For such a one is more valuable than precious stones. ¹¹ The heart of her husband trusts in her; such a one shall stand in no need of fine spoils. ¹² For she employs all her living for her husband's good. ¹³ Gathering wool and flax, she makes it serviceable with her hands. ¹⁴ She is like a ship trading from a distance — so she procures her livelihood. ¹⁵ And she rises by night, and gives food to her household, and appointed tasks to her maidens. ¹⁶ She views a farm, and buys it; and with the fruit of her hands she plants and a possession. ¹⁷ She strongly girds her loins, and strengthens her arms for work. ¹⁸ And she finds by experience that working is good, and her lamp does not go out all night. ¹⁹ She reaches forth her arms to needful works, and applies her hands to the spindle. ²⁰ And she opens her hands to the needy, and reaches out fruit to the poor. ²¹ Her husband is not anxious about those at home when he tarries anywhere abroad: for all her household are clothed. ²² She makes for her husband clothes of double texture, and garments for herself of fine linen and scarlet. ²³ And her husband becomes a distinguished person in the gates, when he sits in council with the old inhabitants of the land. ²⁴ She makes fine linens, and sells sashes to the Canaanites; she opens her mouth heedfully and with propriety, and controls her tongue. ²⁵ She puts on strength and honor, and rejoices in the last days. ²⁶ But she opens her mouth wisely, and according to law. ²⁷ The ways of her household are careful, and she eats not the bread of idleness. ²⁸ And her kindness to them sets up her children for them, and they grow rich, and her husband praises her. ²⁹ Many daughters have obtained wealth, many have wrought valiantly, but you have exceeded, you have surpassed all. ³⁰ Charms are false, and woman's beauty is vain: for it is a wise woman that is blessed, and let her praise the fear the Lord. ³¹ Give her of the fruit of her lips; and let her husband be praised in the gates.

¹³ And besides they learn to be idle, going around from house to house, and not only idle but also gossipy and busybodies, speaking things which are not proper. ¹⁴ Therefore I desire that the younger widows to marry, to bear children, to manage the house, to give no opportunity to the adversary because of reproach.

⁵ temperate, pure, homemakers, good, submitting to their own husbands, lest the word of God be blasphemed.

¹⁴ She sits at the doors of her house, on a seat openly in the streets,

²⁸ For such a one shall perish suddenly, and every transgressor shall be cut off.

²⁰ For of old you have broken your yoke, and plucked asunder your bands; and you have said, I will not serve You, but will go upon every high hill, and under every shady tree, there will I indulge in my fornication.

³³ What fair device will you yet employ in your ways, so as to seek love? It shall not be so; moreover you have done wickedly in corrupting your ways;

³⁶ For you have been so exceedingly contemptuous as to repeat your ways; but you shall be ashamed of Egypt, as you were ashamed of Assyria.

² Lift up your eyes and look straight ahead, and see where you have not been utterly defiled. You have sat for them by the wayside as a deserted crow, and have defiled the land with your fornications and your wickedness.

²⁴ that you built yourself a house of fornication, and made a public place for yourself in every street; ²⁵ and on the head of every road you set up your fornications, and defiled your beauty, and opened your feet to every passer by, and multiplied your fornication.

³¹ You have built a house of harlotry at the head of every road, and have set up your high place in every street; and you became as a harlot gathering payments.

³ For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the wealth of her luxury."

²³ And the light of a lamp shall by no means shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and of a bride shall by no means be heard in you anymore. Your merchants were the magnates of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived.

⁷ And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and said, Lie with me.

¹² And she caught hold of him by his clothes, and said, Lie with me. And having left his clothes in her hands, he fled, and ran outside.

¹ And Israel sojourned in Shittim, and the people profaned themselves by committing harlotry with the daughters of Moab.

⁶ And behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought his brother to a Midianite woman before Moses, and before all the congregation of the children of Israel; and they were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of witness. ⁷ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose out of the midst of the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand, ⁸ and went in after the Israelite man into the chamber, and pierced them both through, both the Israelite man, and the woman through her womb; and the plague was stopped from the children of Israel.

¹⁶ For they were the occasion to the children of Israel by the word of Balaam of their revolting and despising the word of the Lord, because of Peor. And there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord.

²⁹ An ungodly man hardens his face, but the upright man himself understands his ways.

⁷ but the Lord God became my helper; therefore I was not ashamed, but I set my face as a solid rock; and I know that I shall never be ashamed,

⁴ And you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord.

⁶ And you, son of man, fear them not, nor be dismayed at their face (for they will madden and will rise up against you round about, and you dwell in the midst of scorpions), be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their countenance, for they are a provoking house.

⁷ But the house of Israel will not be willing to hearken to you; for they will not hearken to Me; for all the house of Israel are stubborn and hard-hearted. ⁸ And behold, I have made your face strong against their faces, and I will strengthen your power against their power. ⁹ And it shall be continually stronger than a rock — be not afraid of them, neither be dismayed at their faces, because they are a provoking house.

³³ She has even given rewards to all that went a-whoring after her, and you have given rewards to all your lovers, yea, you loaded them with rewards, that they should come to you from every side for your fornication.

²⁰ But I have this against you, that you tolerate your wife Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit fornication and eat things sacrificed to idols.

¹¹ This is the law of the sacrifice of peace-offering, which they shall bring to the Lord.

¹⁵ And the flesh of the sacrifice of the peace-offering of praise shall be his, and it shall be eaten in the day in which it is offered; they shall not leave of it till the morning. ¹⁶ And if it be a vow, or he offer his gift of his own will, on whatsoever day he shall offer his sacrifice, it shall be eaten, and on the next day.

⁶ And you shall carry there your whole burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your firstfruits, and your vowed offerings, and your freewill offerings, and your offerings of thanksgiving, the firstborn of your herds, and of your flocks. ⁷ And you shall eat there before the Lord your God, and you shall rejoice in all the things on which you shall lay your hand, you and your houses, as the Lord your God has blessed you.

⁷ And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said to his father, I will go now, and pay my vows, which I vowed to the Lord in Hebron. ⁸ For your servant vowed a vow when I dwelt at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the Lord should indeed restore me to Jerusalem, then will I serve the Lord. ⁹ And the king said to him, Go in peace. And he arose and went to Hebron.

⁹ And it was written in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth in a chief place among the people. ¹⁰ And set two men, sons of transgressors, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, He blasphemed God and the king: and let them lead him forth, and stone him, and let him die.

⁸ The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord, but the prayers of them that walk honestly are acceptable to Him.

²⁸ Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium, lest they might be defiled, but so that they might eat the Passover.

⁹ And shame shall come upon them that work fine flax, and them that make fine linen.

⁷ Fine linen with embroidery from Egypt supplied the couch, to put honor upon you, and to clothe you with blue and purple from the isles of Elishah; and they became your coverings.

²² Behold, I am casting her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, if they do not repent of her works.

²³ Also take for yourself sweet herbs, the flower of choice myrrh five hundred shekels, and the half of this two hundred and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling cinnamon, and two hundred and fifty shekels of sweet-smelling calamus,

⁸ Myrrh, aloes, and cassia emanate from Your garments, and out of the ivory palaces,

⁶ Who is this that comes up from the wilderness as pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the perfumer?

¹³ Your shoots are a garden of pomegranates, with the fruit of choice berries; camphor, with spikenard: ¹⁴ spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon; with all woods of Lebanon, myrrh, aloes, with all chief spices:

⁷ On a lofty and high mountain, there is your bed, and from there you carried up your meat offerings; ⁸ and behind the posts of your door did you placed your memorials. Did you think that if you should depart from Me, you would gain? You have loved those that lay with you; ⁹ and you have multiplied your whoredom with them, and you have increased the number of them that are far from you, and have sent ambassadors beyond your borders, and have been debased, even to hell.

¹¹ And when they had received it, they began grumbling against the landowner,

⁴³ But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have kept watch, and he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

⁴⁸ But if that evil servant should say in his heart, 'My master is delaying to come,'

³⁴ It is like a man going away on a journey, having left his house and having given authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper that he should watch. ³⁵ Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming--at evening, or at midnight, or at dawn, or early in the morning-- ³⁶ lest having come suddenly, he should find you sleeping.

³⁹ But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have kept watch, and not allowed his house to be broken into.

⁴⁵ But if that servant says in his heart, 'My master is delaying his coming,' and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, ⁴⁶ the master of that servant will come on a day which he does not expect, and at an hour which he does not know, and he will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

⁴ behold, I also his son am building a house to the name of the Lord my God, to consecrate it to Him, to burn incense before Him, and to offer showbread continually, and to offer up whole burnt offerings continually morning and evening, and on the Sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the feasts of the Lord our God: this is a perpetual statute for Israel.

¹⁵ And Delilah said to Sampson, How can you say I love you, when your heart is not with me? ⁸ and went in after the Israelite man into the chamber, and pierced them both through, both the Israelite man, and the woman through her womb; and the plague was stopped from the children of Israel. ⁹ And those that died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.

¹⁷ for nets are not spread for the birds without cause.

¹⁸ But he knows that mighty men die by her, and he falls in with a snare of hell. ^(9:18A) But hasten away, do not delay in the place, neither fix your eye upon her; ^(9:18B) for thus shall you go through strange water; ^(9:18C) but abstain from strange water, and do not drink from a strange fountain, ^(9:18D) that you may live long, and years of life may be added to you.

¹² For surely man also knows not his time; as fish that are taken in an evil net, and as birds that are caught in a snare, even thus the sons of men are snared at an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.

¹ Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to know understanding.

⁷ Now then my son, hear me, and make not my words of no effect.

¹⁴ I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I admonish you. ¹⁵ For though you might have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

¹⁹ My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you!

¹ My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not sin. And if someone should sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

¹⁷⁶ I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant; for I have not forgotten Your commandments.

⁹ Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do that which is evil in His eyes? You have slain Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and you have taken his wife to be your wife, and you have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and you have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite, to be your wife. ¹¹ Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives from before your eyes, and will give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in broad daylight.

¹ And King Solomon was a lover of women. And he took strange women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh, Moabite and Ammonite women, Syrians and Edomites, Hittites and Amorites; ² of the nations concerning whom the Lord forbade the children of Israel, saying, You shall not go in to them, and they shall not come in to you, lest they turn away your hearts after their idols; Solomon clung to these in love.

²⁶ Did not Solomon king of Israel sin thus? Yet there was no king like him among many nations, and he was beloved of God, and God made him king over all Israel; yet strange women turned him aside.

³³ He endures both pain and disgrace, and his reproach shall never be wiped off.

⁸ Nor let us commit fornication, just as some of them fornicated, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell;

²¹ lest, when I come again, my God will humble me before you, and I will mourn for many who have previously sinned and have not repented for the impurity and fornication and lewdness which they practiced.

¹¹ Beloved, I implore you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from the lusts of the flesh which war against the soul;

¹⁸ For she has fixed her house near death, and guided her wheels near Hades with the giants. ¹⁹ None that go by her shall return, neither shall they take hold of right paths, for they have not apprehended of the years of life.

⁵ For the feet of folly lead those who deal with her down to the grave with death, and her steps are not established.

²⁶ And I find her to be, and I will pronounce to be more bitter than death, the woman which is a snare, and her heart nets, who has a band in her hands. He that is good in the sight of God shall be delivered from her; but the sinner shall be caught by her.

¹⁵ But outside are dogs and drug users and fornicators and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices a lie.
