¹ Wisdom has built a house for herself, and set up seven pillars. ² She has killed her beasts; she has mingled her wine in a bowl, and prepared her table. ³ She has sent forth her servants, calling with a loud proclamation to the feast, saying, ⁴ Whoever is foolish, let him turn aside to me: and to them that want understanding she says, ⁵ Come, eat of my bread, and drink wine which I have mingled for you. ⁶ Forsake folly, that you may reign forever; and seek wisdom, and improve understanding by knowledge. ⁷ He that reproves evil men shall get dishonor to himself, and he that rebukes an ungodly man shall disgrace himself. ⁸ Rebuke not evil men, lest they should hate you: rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. ⁹ Give an opportunity to a wise man, and he will be wiser: instruct a just man, and he will receive more instruction. ¹⁰ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the counsel of saints is understanding: ^(9:10A) for to know the law is the character of a sound mind. ¹¹ For in this way you shall live long, and years of your life shall be added to you. ¹² Son, if you are wise for yourself, you shall also be wise for your neighbors; and if you should prove wicked, you alone will bear the evil. ^(9:12A) He that stays himself upon falsehoods, attempts to rule the winds, and the same will pursue birds in their fight: ^(9:12B) for he has forsaken the ways of his own vineyard, and he has caused the axles of his own cart to go astray; ^(9:12C) and he goes through a dry desert, and a land appointed to drought, and he gathers barrenness with his hands. ¹³ A foolish and bold woman, who knows not modesty, comes to want a morsel. ¹⁴ She sits at the doors of her house, on a seat openly in the streets, ¹⁵ calling to passers by, and to those that are going right on their ways; ¹⁶ saying, Whoever is the most senseless of you, let him turn aside to me; and I exhort those that want prudence, saying, ¹⁷ Take and enjoy secret bread, and the sweet water of theft. ¹⁸ But he knows that mighty men die by her, and he falls in with a snare of hell. ^(9:18A) But hasten away, do not delay in the place, neither fix your eye upon her; ^(9:18B) for thus shall you go through strange water; ^(9:18C) but abstain from strange water, and do not drink from a strange fountain, ^(9:18D) that you may live long, and years of life may be added to you.

² And he built the house with the wood of Lebanon; its length was a hundred cubits, and its breadth was fifty cubits, and its height was of thirty cubits, and it was made with three rows of cedar pillars, and the pillars had sidepieces of cedar. ³ And he formed the house with chambers above on the sides of the pillars, and the number of the pillars was forty-five,

⁶ And he made the porch of the pillars, they were fifty cubits long and fifty broad, the porch joining them in front; and the other pillars and the thick beam were in front of the house by the porches.

²¹ And he set up the pillars of the porch of the temple; and he set up the one pillar, and called its name Jachin: and he set up the second pillar, and called its name Boaz.

¹⁸ And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I shall build My church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

⁹ For we are coworkers with God; you are God's field, you are God's building. ¹⁰ According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise architect I have laid the foundation, but another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. ¹¹ For no other foundation can anyone lay, other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. ¹² Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, ¹³ each one's work shall be made manifest; for the Day shall reveal it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall test each one's work, as to what sort it is. ¹⁴ If anyone's work which he has built remains, he shall receive a reward. ¹⁵ If anyone's work is burned up, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, but so as through fire.

⁹ and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace which was given to me, they gave me and Barnabas their right hands of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised;

²⁰ being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, ²¹ in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, ²² in whom you also are being built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.

¹⁵ but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how it is necessary to conduct oneself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.

³ For this One has been counted worthy of more honor than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. ⁴ For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. ⁵ And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of the things which would be spoken, ⁶ but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the boast of hope firm until the end.

⁵ you also, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. ⁶ For it is also contained in the Scripture, "Behold, I place in Zion a chief cornerstone, chosen, precious, and he who believes on Him shall by no means be put to shame."

¹² He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and by no means shall he go out any longer. And I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from heaven from My God. And My new name.

¹⁶ And Joseph saw them and his brother Benjamin, born of the same mother; and he said to the steward of his household, Bring the men into the house, and slaughter an animal and make ready, for the men are to eat bread with me at noon.

⁵ Come, eat of my bread, and drink wine which I have mingled for you.

³⁰ Are not those of them that stay long at wine? Are not those of them that haunt the places where banquets are? Be not drunk with wine; but converse with just men, and converse with them openly.

² I would take you, I would bring you into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me; I would make you to drink of spiced wine, of the juice of my pomegranates.

⁶ And the Lord of hosts shall make a feast for all the nations; on this mount they shall drink gladness, they shall drink wine;

³ and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they did not want to come. ⁴ Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Say to those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding." ' ⁵ "But not caring, they went away, one to his own field, another to his business. ⁶ And the rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. ⁷ And when that king heard, he was furious. And he sent out his troops, and he destroyed those murderers, and he burned up their city. ⁸ Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding indeed is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. ⁹ Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.' ¹⁰ "So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests. ¹¹ But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there not dressed with wedding clothes. ¹² So he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having wedding clothes?' And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Tie him up hands and feet, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' ¹⁴ "For many are called, but few are chosen."

¹⁶ Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great dinner, and he invited many, ¹⁷ and he sent his servant at dinnertime to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.'

⁷ Purge out the old leaven, in order that you may be a new batch of dough, since you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. ⁸ So then let us observe the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

¹¹ The Lord God will give a word to them that preach it in a great company.

²⁰ Wisdom sings aloud in passages, and in the broad places speaks boldly. ²¹ And she makes proclamation on the top of the walls, and sits by the gates of princes; and at the gates of the city boldly says, ²² So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and have become subject to reproofs. ²³ Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech.

¹ You shall proclaim wisdom, that understanding may be obedient to you. ² For she is on lofty heights, and stands in the midst of the ways. ³ For she sits by the gates of princes, and sings in the entrances, saying,

¹⁴ She sits at the doors of her house, on a seat openly in the streets,

³ and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they did not want to come. ⁴ Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Say to those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding." '

⁹ Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.'

⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,'

¹⁷ and he sent his servant at dinnertime to say to those who were invited, 'Come, for all things are now ready.'

²¹ So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.' ²² And the servant said, 'Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.' ²³ Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the roads and hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.

³⁷ Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always come together, and in secret I spoke nothing.

¹⁵ And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, of those preaching the gospel of good things!"

²⁰ Now then, we serve as ambassadors for Christ, as though God were appealing through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. ²¹ For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

⁷ The law of the Lord is perfect, converting souls; the testimony of the Lord is faithful, instructing babes.

¹³⁰ The manifestation of Your words will enlighten, and instruct the simple.

²² So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and have become subject to reproofs.

³² But the adulterer through lack of understanding procures destruction to his soul.

⁵ O you simple, understand prudence, and you that are untaught, take in knowledge.

¹⁶ saying, Whoever is the most senseless of you, let him turn aside to me; and I exhort those that want prudence, saying,

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes.

¹⁷ Because you say, 'I am wealthy, and have become rich, and have need of nothing'--and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked, ¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from Me gold having been tried by fire, so that you may become rich; and white robes, so that you may be clothed, and the shame of your nakedness may not appear; and eye salve, so that you may anoint your eyes, in order that you may see.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. The one who desires, let him take the water of life freely.

²⁶ The poor shall eat and be satisfied; and they shall praise the Lord that seek Him; their heart shall live forever.

²⁹ All the fat ones of the earth have eaten and worshipped; all that go down to the earth shall fall down before Him; my soul also lives to him.

¹⁷ Take and enjoy secret bread, and the sweet water of theft.

¹ Let my kinsman come down into his garden, and eat the fruit of his choice berries. I have come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spices; I have eaten my bread with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends, and drink; yes, brethren, drink abundantly.

¹ You that thirst, go to the water, and all that have no money, go and buy; and eat and drink wine and milk without money or price. ² Why do you value at the price of money, and give your labor for that which will not satisfy? Hearken to Me, and you shall eat that which is good, and your soul shall feast itself on good things. ³ Give heed with your ears, and follow My ways; hearken to Me, and your soul shall live in prosperity; and I will make with you an everlasting covenant, the sure mercies of David.

¹² And they shall come, and shall rejoice in the mount of Zion, and shall come to the good things of the Lord, to a land of wheat, and wine, and fruits, and cattle, and sheep. And their soul shall be as a fruitful tree; and they shall hunger no more. ¹³ Then shall the virgins rejoice in the assembly of youth, and the old men shall rejoice; and I will turn their mourning into joy, and will make them merry. ¹⁴ I will expand and cheer with wine the soul of the priests, the sons of Levi, and My people shall be satisfied with My good things. Thus says the Lord.

²⁶ And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and giving thanks, He broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." ²⁷ Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, ²⁸ for this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many, for the forgiveness of sins.

²⁷ Work not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for upon Him God the Father has set His seal."

⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and died. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." ⁵² Therefore the Jews were contending with one another, saying, "How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?" ⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. ⁵⁴ Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day. ⁵⁵ For My flesh truly is food, and My blood truly is drink. ⁵⁶ He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from heaven, not as your fathers ate the manna, and died. He that eats this bread shall live forever."

⁴ I have not sat with the council of vanity, and shall by no means enter in with transgressors. ⁵ I have hated the assembly of evildoers; and will not sit with the ungodly. ⁶ I will wash my hands in innocence, and compass Your altar, O Lord;

¹⁰ Hear, O daughter, and see, and incline your ear; forget also your people, and your father's house.

¹¹⁵ Depart from me, You evildoers; for I will search out the commandments of my God.

¹¹ For I teach you the ways of wisdom; and I cause you to go in right paths.

¹⁴ Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors. ¹⁵ In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, do not go there; but turn from them, and pass away.

³⁵ For my outgoings are the outgoings of life, and in them is prepared favor from the Lord.

¹¹ For in this way you shall live long, and years of your life shall be added to you.

¹⁷ Instruction keeps the right ways of life, but instruction unchastened goes astray.

²⁰ If you walk with wise men you shall be wise, but he that walks with fools shall be known.

¹³ "Enter in through the narrow gate; because wide is the gate, and broad is the way which leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in through it. ¹⁴ How narrow the gate, and confined the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it!

²⁴ Strive to enter through the narrow gate, because many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

⁴⁰ And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this crooked generation."

¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from the midst of them and be separated," says the Lord. "Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you."

⁴ And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you participate in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.

⁸ But I have two daughters, who have not known a man. I will bring them out to you, and use them as it may please you, only do no injury to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shelter of my roof. ⁹ And they said to him, Stand back! You came here to sojourn, was it also to judge? Now then we would harm you more than them. And they pressed hard on the man, even Lot, and they drew near to break down the door.

¹⁷ And it came to pass when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to Elijah, Are you he that perverts Israel?

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he said, I have found you; because you have wickedly sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger;

²⁴ And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, What sort of a spirit of the Lord has spoken in you?

²⁷ and tell Joash the king's son to put this fellow in prison, and to feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I return in peace.

²⁰ And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood up above the people and said, Thus says the Lord: Why do you transgress the commandments of the Lord? So shall you not prosper; for you have forsaken the Lord, and He will forsake you. ²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him by command of King Joash in the court of the Lord's house. ²² So Joash remembered not the kindness which his father Jehoiada had exercised towards him, but killed his son. And as he died, he said, The Lord look upon it, and judge.

¹⁵ And the anger of the Lord came upon Amaziah, and He sent him a prophet who said to him, Why have you sought the gods of the people, which have not rescued their own people out of your hand? ¹⁶ And it came to pass when the prophet was speaking to him, that he said to him, Have I made you the king's counselor? Take heed lest you be scourged! And the prophet became silent, and said, I know that God is disposed against you to destroy you, because you have done this thing, and have not hearkened to my counsel.

¹⁶ Nevertheless they sneered at His messengers, and despised His words, and mocked His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose up against His people, till there was no remedy.

¹² An uninstructed person will not love those that reprove him, neither will he associate with the wise.

⁹ Say nothing in the ears of a fool, lest at any time he sneer at your wise words.

¹⁷ You shall not hate your brother in your heart: you shall surely rebuke your neighbor, so you shall not bear sin on his account.

⁶ But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, of those that spied out the land, tore their clothes, ⁷ and spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, The land which we surveyed is indeed extremely good. ⁸ If the Lord delights in us, He will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Only depart not from the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they shall be as food to us; for the season of prosperity has departed from them, but the Lord is among us; fear them not. ¹⁰ And all the congregation said to stone them with stones; and the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud on the tabernacle of witness to all the children of Israel.

⁷ And Nathan said to David, You are the man that has done this! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: I anointed you to be king over Israel, and I rescued you out the hand of Saul; ⁸ and I gave you the house of your master, and the wives of your master into your bosom, and I gave to you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little, I would have given you even more. ⁹ Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do that which is evil in His eyes? You have slain Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and you have taken his wife to be your wife, and you have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and you have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite, to be your wife. ¹¹ Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives from before your eyes, and will give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in broad daylight. ¹² For you did it in secret, but I will do this thing in the sight of all Israel, and in broad daylight. ¹³ And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said to David, The Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die. ¹⁴ Only because you have given great occasion of provocation to the enemies of the Lord by this thing, your son also that is born to you shall surely die.

²³ Behold, Nathan the prophet is here. And he came in to the king's presence, and bowed down to the king with his face to the ground.

³² And King David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came in before the king.

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is one man here for us to inquire of the Lord by; but I hate him, for he does not speak good of me, but only evil; Micaiah son of Imlah. And Jehoshaphat king of Judah said, Let not the king say such things!

⁵ The righteous shall chasten me with mercy, and reprove me: but let not the oil of the sinner anoint my head: for yet shall my prayer also be in their pleasures.

¹⁸ Instruction removes poverty and disgrace, but he that attends to reproofs shall be honored.

²³ He that reproves a man's ways shall have more favor than he that flatters with the tongue.

¹ A reprover is better than a stiff-necked man, for when the latter is suddenly set on fire, there shall be no remedy.

⁶ Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

¹⁴ Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind guides the blind, both will fall into a ditch."

¹¹ But when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was to be blamed. ¹² For before certain men came from James, he would eat together with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to draw back and began to separate himself, fearing those of the circumcision party. ¹³ And the rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. ¹⁴ But when I saw that they did not act rightly with respect to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in Gentile fashion and not in Jewish fashion, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as Jews?

⁴ For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and became partakers of the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and have tasted the good word of God and the powerful deeds of the age to come, ⁶ and having fallen away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and hold Him up to contempt. ⁷ For the earth which drinks the rain often coming upon it, and bears suitable vegetation for those on account of whom it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God; ⁸ but if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, of which the end is for burning.

¹⁵ and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation--just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you, ¹⁶ as also in all his letters, speaking in them about these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the unlearned and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

⁵ For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and a man of understanding will gain direction;

¹² In an earring of gold a precious sardius is also set; so is a wise word to an obedient ear.

³ Let us follow on to know the Lord: we shall find Him ready as the morning, and He will come to us as the early and latter rain to the earth.

¹¹ He answered and said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. ¹² For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall be in abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

¹⁸ but grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

²⁰ But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. ²¹ I did not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

¹³ These things I write to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe in the name of the Son of God.

⁹ And now, my son Solomon, know the God of your fathers, and serve Him with a perfect heart and a willing soul; for the Lord searches all hearts, and knows every thought: if you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you should forsake Him, He will forsake you forever.

²⁸ And He said to man, Behold, godliness is wisdom: and to abstain from evil is understanding.

¹⁰ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and all that act accordingly have a good understanding; His praise endures forever and ever.

⁷ The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and there is good understanding to all that practice it: and godliness toward God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will nullify wisdom and instruction.

⁵ then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

³ God has taught me wisdom, and I know the knowledge of the Holy One.

¹³ Hear the end of the matter, the sum: Fear God, and keep His commandments; for this is man's all.

²⁷ All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one fully knows the Son except the Father, nor does anyone fully know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

³ And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true; and we are in Him that is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

² That you may fear the Lord your God, and keep all His statutes, and His commandments, which I command you today, you, and your sons, and your sons' sons, all the days of your life, that you may live many days.

² for length of days, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to you.

¹⁶ For length of days and years of life are in her right hand, and in her left hand are wealth and glory. ^(3:16A) Out of her mouth proceeds righteousness, and she carries law and mercy upon her tongue.

²⁷ The fear of the Lord adds length of days, but the years of the ungodly shall be shortened.

² Is it not the Lord that teaches understanding and knowledge? ³ For what does it matter to the Lord, if you were blameless in your works? Or is it profitable that you should perfect your way?

²¹ Be firm, I pray, if you can endure; then your fruit shall prosper.

⁶ And if you have also transgressed much, what can you perform? ⁷ And suppose you are righteous, what will you give Him? Or what shall He receive from your hand?

²⁶ A man who labors, labors for himself, and drives from him his own ruin.

²² Therefore do not rejoice, neither let your bands be made strong; for I have heard of works finished and cut short by the Lord of hosts, which He will execute upon all the earth.

²⁰ But the soul that sins shall die; and the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, nor shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the iniquity of the transgressor shall be upon him.

³ knowing this first: that mockers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, ⁴ and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers died, all things continue as from the beginning of creation."

¹⁶ as also in all his letters, speaking in them about these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the unlearned and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

⁶ For she goes not upon the paths of life; but her ways are slippery, and not easily known.

¹¹ And she is fickle and rebellious, and her feet abide not at home.

⁹ It is better to dwell in a corner on the housetop, than in plastered rooms with unrighteousness, and in an open house.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and talkative and passionate woman.

⁴ he is puffed up, understanding nothing, but is morbidly concerned with disputes and word battles, from which come envy, strife, slanders, evil suspicions,

¹⁰ and the woman meets him having the appearance of a harlot, that causes the hearts of young men to flutter. ¹¹ And she is fickle and rebellious, and her feet abide not at home. ¹² For at one time she wanders outside, and at another time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner.

³ She has sent forth her servants, calling with a loud proclamation to the feast, saying,

¹³ Then she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him, ¹⁴ I have a peace offering; today I pay my vows: ¹⁵ therefore I came forth to meet you, desiring your face; and I have found you.

²⁵ Let not your heart turn aside to her ways, ²⁶ for she has wounded and cast down many, and those whom she has slain are innumerable. ²⁷ Her house is the way of hell, leading down to the chambers of death.

²⁷ For a strange house is a vessel full of holes, and a strange well is narrow. ²⁸ For such a one shall perish suddenly, and every transgressor shall be cut off.

⁴ Whoever is foolish, let him turn aside to me: and to them that want understanding she says,

^{6 (3:7)} And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes to look upon and beautiful to contemplate, and having taken of its fruit she ate, and she gave to her husband also with her, and they ate.

²⁴ And he came to a secret place, and took them from their hands, and laid them up in the house, and dismissed the men. ²⁵ And he went in himself and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, ²⁶ From where have you come, Gehazi? And Gehazi said, Your servant has not been anywhere. And Elisha said to him, Did not my heart go with you, when the man returned from his chariot to meet you? And now you have received silver, and now you have received clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, menservants, and maidservants. ²⁷ The leprosy also of Naaman shall cleave to you, and to your seed forever. And he went out from his presence leprous, like snow.

¹⁸ Come, and let us enjoy love until the morning; come, and let us embrace in love. ¹⁹ For my husband is not at home, and has gone on a long journey, ²⁰ having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house.

³¹ For if you should set your eyes on bowls and cups, you shall afterwards go more naked than a pestle. ³² But at last such a one stretches himself out as one smitten by a serpent, and venom is diffused through him as by a horned serpent.

²⁰ Such is the way of an adulterous woman, who having washed herself from what she has done, says she has done nothing amiss.

⁸ But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of lust. For apart from the law sin was dead.

¹² For it is shameful even to speak of those things being done by them in secret.

¹⁴ But each one is tempted by his own lusts, being drawn away and being seduced by them. ¹⁵ Then lust, when it conceives, gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

⁵ They know not, nor understand; they walk on in darkness; all the foundations of the earth shall be shaken.

¹⁸ For she has fixed her house near death, and guided her wheels near Hades with the giants. ¹⁹ None that go by her shall return, neither shall they take hold of right paths, for they have not apprehended of the years of life.

⁵ For the feet of folly lead those who deal with her down to the grave with death, and her steps are not established.

²⁶ For the value of a harlot is as much as of one loaf of bread, and a woman hunts for the precious souls of men.

²⁷ Her house is the way of hell, leading down to the chambers of death.

⁵ For this they willingly forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth, consisting out of water and through water,
