¹ And to the sons of Aaron [are] their courses:sons of Aaron [are] Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar, ² and Nadab dies, and Abihu, in the presence of their father, and they had no sons, and Eleazar and Ithamar act as priests. ³ And David distributes them, and Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their office in their service;" ⁴ and there are found of the sons of Eleazar more for heads of the mighty men than of the sons of Ithamar; and they distribute them:Of the sons of Eleazar, heads for a house of fathers, sixteen; and of the sons of Ithamar, for a house of their fathers, eight. ⁵ And they distribute them, by lots, one with another, for princes of the sanctuary, and princes of Elohim, have been of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. ⁶ And Shemaiah son of Nethaneel the scribe, of the Levites, writes them before the king and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and heads of the fathers, for priests and for Levites:one house of a father being taken possession of for Eleazar, and one being taken possession of for Ithamar. ⁷ And the first lot goes out for Jehoiarib, for Jedaiah the second, ⁸ for Harim the third, for Seorim the fourth, ⁹ for Malchijah the fifth, for Mijamin the sixth, ¹⁰ for Hakkoz the seventh, for Abijah the eighth, ¹¹ for Jeshuah the ninth, for Shecaniah the tenth, ¹² for Eliashib the eleventh, for Jakim the twelfth, ¹³ for Huppah the thirteenth, for Jeshebeab the fourteenth, ¹⁴ for Bilgah the fifteenth, for Immer the sixteenth, ¹⁵ for Hezir the seventeenth, for Aphses the eighteenth, ¹⁶ for Pethahiah the nineteenth, for Jehezekel the twentieth, ¹⁷ for Jachin the one and twentieth, for Gamul the two and twentieth, ¹⁸ for Delaiah the three and twentieth, for Maaziah the four and twentieth. ¹⁹ These [are] their appointments for their service, to come in to the house of Yahweh, according to their ordinance by the hand of Aaron their father, as Yahweh Elohim of Israel, commanded them. ²⁰ And for the sons of Levi who are left:for sons of Amram, Shubael; for sons of Shubael:Jehdeiah. ²¹ For Rehabiah:for sons of Rehabiah, the head Ishshiah. ²² For the Izharite:Shelomoth; for sons of Shelomoth:Jahath. ²³ And sons of Jeriah:Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth. ²⁴ Sons of Uzziel:Michah; for sons of Michah:Shamir. ²⁵ A brother of Michah [is] Ishshiah; for sons of Ishshiah:Zechariah; ²⁶ sons of Merari:Mahli and Mushi; sons of Jaaziah:Beno; ²⁷ sons of Merari:of Jaaziah:Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri. ²⁸ For Mahli:Eleazar, who had no sons;" ²⁹ for Kish:sons of Kish:Jerahmeel. ³⁰ And sons of Mushi [are] Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth; these [are] sons of the Levites, for the house of their fathers, ³¹ and they cast, they also, lots over-against their brethren the sons of Aaron, before David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and heads of the fathers, for priests and for Levites; the chief father over-against his younger brother.

²³ Aaron took Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, as his wife; and she bore for him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

¹ You, bring near to you Aaron, your brother, and his sons with him, from the midst of the sons of Israel, to serve as priests for Me; Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, sons of Aaron.

¹ The sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, each took his fire-pan, put fire in them, placed incense on it and came near before Yahweh with alien fire such as He had not instructed them. ² Hence fire came forth from before Yahweh and devoured them, and they died before Yahweh. ³ Then Moses said to Aaron:That is what Yahweh spoke of, saying:Among those near Me shall I be hallowed, and in the presence of all the people shall I be glorified. Aaron was still;" ⁴ and Moses called to Mishael and to Elzaphan, sons of Uzziel, uncle of Aaron, and said to them:Come near, and carry your brothers from the presence of the holy place outside the camp. ⁵ So they came near and carried them in their tunics outside the camp, just as Moses had spoken. ⁶ Then Moses said to Aaron and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons:Do not dishevel your heads' hair and do not rip your garments so that you may not die, lest He be wrathful with the whole congregation. Yet your brothers, all the house of Israel, they may lament over the burning which Yahweh has burned.

² And these were the names of the sons of Aaron:the firstborn Nadab, then Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

⁶⁰ To Aaron was born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

³ And sons of Amram:Aaron, and Moses, and Miriam. And sons of Aaron:Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

⁶ And David distributes them into courses:Of the sons of Levi:of Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

¹ Then to Moses He said: Ascend to Yahweh, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and bow yourselves down from afar.

⁹ Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel ascended.

⁹ Then you will gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and bind up caps on them, so that the priesthood comes to be theirs for an eonian statute when you have filled the hand of Aaron and the hands of his sons.

² Hence fire came forth from before Yahweh and devoured them, and they died before Yahweh.

¹² Moses spoke to Aaron and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons who were left:Take the approach present, the rest of the fire offerings of Yahweh, and eat it unleavened beside the altar, for it is a holy of holies.

⁴ Yet Nadab and Abihu died before Yahweh when they brought near alien fire before Yahweh in the wilderness of Sinai. They did not come to have sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the presence of Aaron their father.

³⁹ Eleazar the priest took the copper fire-pans which those burned had brought near, and they stamped them into an overlay for the altar, ⁴⁰ a reminder for the sons of Israel so that no alien man who is not of the seed of Aaron might come near to try to fume incense before Yahweh so that he does not become as Korah and his congregation, just as Yahweh had spoken to him by means of Moses.

⁷ Yet you and your sons with you shall keep your priesthood as to every matter of the altar and to that inside the curtain. Thus you will serve in the service. As a gift am I giving your priesthood. Yet the alien who comes near shall be put to death.

⁶¹ Yet Nadab and Abihu died when they offered alien fire before Yahweh.

¹ And David comes in to Nob, unto Ahimelech the priest, and Ahimelech trembles at meeting David, and said to him, `Wherefore [are] you yourself alone, and no man with you?.

⁹ And answer does Doeg the Edomite, who is set over the servants of Saul, and said, `I have seen the son of Jesse coming in to Nob, unto Ahimelech son of Ahitub, <sup>10</sup> and he asks for him at Yahweh, and provision has given to him, and the sword of Goliath the Philistine has given to him. <sup>11</sup> And the king sends to call Ahimelech son of Ahitub, the priest, and all the house of his father, the priests, who [are] in Nob, and they come all of them unto the king;" <sup>12</sup> and Saul said, `Hear, I pray you, son of Ahitub;' and he said, `Here [am] I, my lord.. <sup>13</sup> And Saul said unto him, `Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, by your giving to him bread and a sword, and to ask for him at Elohim, to rise against me, to lie in wait, as [at] this day?. ¹⁴ And Ahimelech answers the king and said, `And who among all your servants [is] as David--faithful, and son-in-law of the king, and has turned aside unto your council, and is honored in your house? <sup>15</sup> To-day have I begun to ask for him at Elohim? far be it from me! let not the king lay anything against his servant, against any of the house of my father, for your servant has known nothing of all this, less or more.. <sup>16</sup> And the king said, `You do surely die, Ahimelech, you, and all the house of your father.. ¹⁷ And the king said to runners, those standing by him, `Turn round, and put to death the priests of Yahweh, because their hand also [is] with David, and because they have known that he is fleeing, and have not uncovered mine ear;' and the servants of the king have not been willing to put forth their hand to come against the priests of Yahweh. <sup>18</sup> And the king said to Doeg, `Turn round you, and come against the priests;' and Doeg the Edomite turns round, and comes himself against the priests, and puts to death in that day eighty and five men bearing a linen ephod, ¹⁹ and Nob, the city of the priests, he has smitten by the mouth of the sword, from man even unto woman, from infant even unto suckling, and ox, and ass, and sheep, by the mouth of the sword. ²⁰ And there escapes one son of Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, and his name [is] Abiathar, and he flees after David, ²¹ and Abiathar declares to David that Saul has slain the priests of Yahweh. ²² And David said to Abiathar, `I have known on that day when Doeg the Edomite [is] there, that he does certainly declare [it] to Saul; I have brought [it] round to every person of the house of your father;" ²³ dwell with me; fear not; for he who seeks my life seeks your life; for a charge [are] you with me.'

¹⁷ and Zadok son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, [are] priests, and Seraiah [is] scribe,

²⁵ and Sheva [is] scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar [are] priests,

³⁵ and the king puts Benaiah son of Jehoiada in his stead over the host, and Zadok the priest has the king put in the stead of Abiathar.

⁴ Eleazar begat Phinehas, Phinehas begat Abishua, ⁵ and Abishua begat Bukki, and Bukki begat Uzzi, ⁶ and Uzzi begat Zerahiah, and Zerahiah begat Meraioth, ⁷ Meraioth begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub, ⁸ and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Ahimaaz,

⁵⁰ And these [are] sons of Aaron:Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son, ⁵¹ Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, ⁵² Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, ⁵³ Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son.

²⁷ and Jehoiada [is] the leader of the Aaronite, and with him [are] three thousand and seven hundred, ²⁸ and Zadok, a young man, mighty of valor, and of the house of his father [are] twenty and two heads.

¹¹ And David calls to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, and to the Levites, to Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab,

³⁹ and Zadok the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of Yahweh, in a high place that [is] in Gibeon,

⁶ And Shemaiah son of Nethaneel the scribe, of the Levites, writes them before the king and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and heads of the fathers, for priests and for Levites:one house of a father being taken possession of for Eleazar, and one being taken possession of for Ithamar.

³¹ and they cast, they also, lots over-against their brethren the sons of Aaron, before David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and heads of the fathers, for priests and for Levites; the chief father over-against his younger brother.

¹¹ Phineas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, reversed My fury from the sons of Israel in his zeal for My jealousy in their midst so I did not finish the sons of Israel in My jealousy. ¹² Therefore say:Behold Me giving to him My covenant of peace; ¹³ it will be his and his seed's after him, the covenant of an eonian priesthood, inasmuch as he was zealous for his Elohim and made a propitiatory shelter over the sons of Israel.

⁶ Of sons of Merari:Asaiah the chief, and his brethren, two hundred and twenty. ⁷ Of sons of Gershom:Joel the chief, and his brethren, a hundred and thirty. ⁸ Of sons of Elizaphan:Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren, two hundred. ⁹ Of sons of Hebron:Eliel the chief, and his brethren, eighty. ¹⁰ Of sons of Uzziel:Amminadab the chief, and his brethren, a hundred and twelve. ¹¹ And David calls to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, and to the Levites, to Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab, ¹² and said to them, `You [are] heads of the fathers of the Levites; sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, and you have brought up the ark of Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, unto [the place] I have prepared for it;"

²⁴ These [are] sons of Levi, by the house of their fathers, heads of the fathers, by their appointments, in the number of names, by their polls, doing the work for the service of the house of Yahweh, from a son of twenty years and upward,

¹⁰ And Joshua casts for them a lot in Shiloh before Yahweh, and there Joshua apportions the land to the sons of Israel, according to their divisions.

¹¹ and Azariah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, leader in the house of Elohim;"

⁸ And his heads, for a willing-offering to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites, have lifted up; Hilkiah, and Zechariah, and Jehiel, leaders in the house of Elohim, to the priests have given for passover-offerings two thousand and six hundred, and oxen three hundred;"

¹¹ Seraiah son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, leader of the house of Elohim,

³³ It is the lot that is cast forth in the bosom; Yet from Yahweh is its every judgment.

⁷ And they are saying, each man to his associate, Go, and let us cast lots that we may know on whose account this evil is with us. So they are casting lots, and the lot is falling on Jonah."

³ Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered in the courtyard of the chief priest, who is termed Caiaphas,

¹ Now, morning coming on, all the chief priests and the elders of the people held a consultation against Jesus, so as to put Him to death."

²⁶ And they give lots for them, and the lot falls on Matthias, and he is enumerated with the eleven apostles."

¹ Now at their speaking to the people, the priests and the officer of the sanctuary and the Sadducees stand by them,

⁶ and Hannas, the chief priest, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and whoever were of the chief priestly race."

²⁴ Now as they hear these words, both the officer of the sanctuary and the chief priests were bewildered concerning them, as to whatever may come of this."

³ Elihoreph and Ahiah sons of Shisha [are] scribes; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud [is] remembrancer;

¹⁶ and Zadok son of Ahitub, and Abimelech son of Abiathar, [are] priests, and Shavsha [is] scribe,

¹³ and over the burden-bearers, and overseers of every one doing work for service and service; and of the Levites [are] scribes, and officers, and gatekeepers.

⁶ that Ezra himself came up from Babylon. He was a scribe expert in the law of Moses that Yahweh Elohim of Israel had given. And the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of Yahweh his Elohim on him.

¹ And all the people are gathered as one man unto the broad place that [is] before the water-gate, and they say to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, that Yahweh commanded Israel.

¹⁹ And, approaching, one scribe said to Him, "Teacher, I will be following Thee wheresoever Thou mayest come away."

⁵² Now He said to them, "Therefore every scribe made a disciple in the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a householder, who is extracting out of his treasure things new and old."

¹ Then Jesus speaks to the throngs and to His disciples, ² saying, "On Moses' seat are seated the scribes and the Pharisees."

¹⁰ And of the priests:Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin,

³⁶ The priests:the sons of Jedaiah of the house of Jeshua--973;

³⁹ The priests:sons of Jedaiah:of the house of Jeshua:nine hundred seventy and three;

¹⁰ Of the priests:Jedaiah son of Joiarib, Jachin,

¹⁹ and of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi;"

³⁹ the sons of Harim--1, 17.

²¹ Of the sons of Harim:Maaseiah and Elijah and Shemaiah and Jehiel and Uzziah.

³⁵ Sons of Harim:three hundred and twenty.

¹⁵ of Harim, Adna; of Meraioth, Helkai;"

¹⁷ of Abijah, Zichri; of Miniamin; of Moadiah, Piltai;"

⁴ Iddo, Ginnethoi, Abijah,

⁵ There came to be, in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zechariah, of the routine of Abiah, and his wife, of the daughters of Aaron, and her name is Elizabeth."

¹⁰ And Jeshua has begotten Joiakim, and Joiakim has begotten Eliashib, and Eliashib has begotten Joiada,

³⁷ the sons of Immer--1,52;"

²⁰ Of the sons of Immer:Hanani and Zebadiah.

⁴⁰ sons of Immer:a thousand fifty and two;

²⁵ And their brethren in their villages [are] to come in for seven days from time to time with these.

¹ And to the sons of Aaron [are] their courses:sons of Aaron [are] Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar,

⁴ `This [is] the thing that you do:The third of you, going in on the sabbath, of the priests, and of the Levites, [are] for gatekeepers of the thresholds,

⁸ And the Levites and all Judah do according to all that Jehoiada the priest has commanded, and take each his men going in on the sabbath, with those going out on the sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest has not let away the courses.

⁴⁰ Yet let all occur respectably and in order.

¹¹ If, indeed, then, perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for the people have been placed under law with it), what need is there still for a different priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not said to be according to the order of Aaron?

¹⁸ And sons of Kohath:Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel.

¹² Sons of Kohath [are] Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. ¹³ Sons of Amram:Aaron and Moses; and Aaron is separated for his sanctifying the holy of holies, he and his sons--unto the eon, to make perfume before Yahweh, to serve Him, and to bless in His name--unto the eon. ¹⁴ As to Moses, the man of Elohim, his sons are called after the tribe of Levi.

¹⁶ Sons of Gershom:Shebuel the head.

²⁴ And Shebuel son of Gershom, son of Moses, [is] president over the treasures.

¹⁷ And sons of Eliezer are Rehabiah the head, and Eliezer had no other sons, and the sons of Rehabiah have multiplied exceedingly.

²⁵ And his brethren, of Eliezer, [are] Rehabiah his son, and Jeshaiah his son, and Joram his son, and Zichri his son, and Shelomith his son.

²¹ The sons of Izhar are Korah, Nepheg and Zichri.

¹⁹ and the sons of Kohath by their families:Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel;"

²⁷ Belonging to Kohath were the Amramite family, the Izharite family, the Hebronite family and the Uzzielite family. These were those of the Kohathite families.

¹⁸ Sons of Izhar:Shelomith the head.

²⁶ This Shelomith and his brethren [are] over all the treasures of the holy things, that David the king, and heads of the fathers, even heads of thousands, and of hundreds, and heads of the host, sanctified;"

¹⁹ Sons of Hebron:Jeriah the head, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

³¹ Of the Hebronite, Jerijah [is] the head, of the Hebronite, according to his generations, for the fathers--in the fortieth year of the reign of David they have been sought out, and there are found among them mighty ones of valor, in Jazer of Gilead-.

²⁰ Sons of Uzziel:Micah the head, and Ishshiah, the second.

¹⁸ and with them their brethren, the seconds [in rank], Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah; and Obed-Edom and Jeiel the gatekeepers;"

²⁰ and Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jeheil, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries besides virgins,

²¹ Sons of Merari:Mahli and Mushi; sons of Mahli:Eleazar and Kish.

¹⁹ The sons of Merari are Mahli and Mushi. These are the Levite families according to their genealogical annals.

²⁰ and the sons of Merari by their families:Mahli and Mushi. These names were those of the Levite families by their fathers' house.

¹⁹ Sons of Merari; Mahli and Mushi. And these [are] families of the Levite according to their fathers;

²² And Eleazar dies, and he had no sons, but daughters, and sons of Kish their brethren take them.

⁴⁷ son of Mahli, son of Mushi, son of Merari, son of Levi.

²³ Sons of Mushi:Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth, three.

⁵⁶ At the bidding of the lot you shall apportion each his allotment, between the numerous one and the little one.

⁵ And they distribute them, by lots, one with another, for princes of the sanctuary, and princes of Elohim, have been of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. ⁶ And Shemaiah son of Nethaneel the scribe, of the Levites, writes them before the king and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and heads of the fathers, for priests and for Levites:one house of a father being taken possession of for Eleazar, and one being taken possession of for Ithamar.

⁸ And they cause to fall lots--charge over-against [charge], as well the small as the great, the intelligent with the learner.

¹³ and they cause to fall lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for gate and gate.
