¹ And Ben-Hadad king of Aram has gathered all his force, and thirty and two kings [are] with him, and horse and chariot, and he goes up and lays siege against Samaria, and fights with it, ² and sends messengers unto Ahab king of Israel, to the city, ³ and said to him, `Thus said Ben-Hadad, `Your silver and your gold are mine, and your wives and your sons--the best--are mine.. ⁴ And the king of Israel answers and said, `According to your word, my lord, O king:I [am] your, and all that I have.. <sup>5</sup> And the messengers turn back and say, `Thus spoke Ben-Hadad, saying, Surely I sent unto you, saying, Your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your sons, to me you do give;" ⁶ for if, at this time to-morrow, I send my servants unto you then they have searched your house, and the houses of your servants, and it has been, every desirable thing of your eyes they place in their hand, and have taken away.. ⁷ And the king of Israel calls to all the elders of the land, and said, `Know, I pray you, and see that evil this [one] is seeking, for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my sons, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I withheld not from him.. <sup>8</sup> And all the elders and all the people say unto him, `Do not hearken, nor consent.. ⁹ And he said to the messengers of Ben-Hadad, `Say to my lord the king, All that you did send for unto your servant at the first I do, and this thing I am not able to do;' and the messengers go and take him back word. <sup>10</sup> And Ben-Hadad sends unto him, and said, `Thus do the elohims to me, and thus do they add, if the dust of Samaria suffice for handfuls for all the people who [are] at my feet.. ¹¹ And the king of Israel answers and said, `Speak you:let not him who is girding on boast himself as him who is loosing [his armor].. <sup>12</sup> And it comes to pass at the hearing of this word--and he is drinking, he and the kings, in the booths--that he said unto his servants, `Set yourselves;' and they set themselves against the city. ¹³ And lo, a certain prophet has come nigh unto Ahab king of Israel, and said, `Thus said Yahweh, `Have you seen all this great multitude? lo, I am giving it into your hand to-day, and you have known that I [am] Yahweh.. ¹⁴ And Ahab said, `By whom?' and he said, `Thus said Yahweh, By the young men of the heads of the provinces;' and he said, `Who does direct the battle?' and he said, `You.. ¹⁵ And he inspects the young men of the heads of the provinces, and they are two hundred, two and thirty, and after them he has inspects the whole of the people, all the sons of Israel, seven thousand, ¹⁶ and they go out at noon, and Ben-Hadad is drinking--drunk in the booths, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings, helping him. ¹⁷ And the young men of the heads of the provinces go out at the first, and Ben-Hadad sends, and they declare to him, saying, `Men have come out of Samaria.. <sup>18</sup> And he said, `If for peace they have come out--catch them alive; and if for battle they have come out--alive catch them.. ¹⁹ And these have gone out of the city--the young men of the heads of the provinces--and the force that [is] after them, ²⁰ and smite each his man, and Aram flees, and Israel pursues them, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram escapes on a horse, and the horsemen;" ²¹ and the king of Israel goes out, and smites the horses, and the charioteers, and has smitten among the Arameans a great smiting. ²² And the prophet comes nigh unto the king of Israel, and said to him, `Go, strengthen yourself, and know and see that which you do, for at the turn of the year the king of Aram is coming up against you.. <sup>23</sup> And the servants of the king of Aram said unto him, `Elohims of hills [are] their elohims, therefore they were stronger than we; and yet, we fight with them in the plain--are we not stronger than they? ²⁴ `And this thing do you:turn aside the kings each out of his place, and set captains in their stead;" <sup>25</sup> and you, number to you a force as the force that is fallen from you, and horse for horse, and chariot for chariot, and we fight with them in the plain; are we not stronger than they?' and he hearkens to their voice, and does so. <sup>26</sup> And it comes to pass at the turn of the year, that Ben-Hadad inspects the Arameans, and goes up to Aphek, to battle with Israel, <sup>27</sup> and the sons of Israel have been inspected, and supported, and go to meet them, and the sons of Israel encamp before them, like two flocks of goats, and the Arameans have filled the land. <sup>28</sup> And there comes nigh a man of Elohim, and speaks unto the king of Israel, and said, `Thus said Yahweh, Because that the Arameans have said, Elohim of hills [is] Yahweh, and He [is] not Elohim of valleys--I have given the whole of this great multitude into your hand, and you have known that I [am] Yahweh.. ²⁹ And they encamp one over-against another seven days, and it comes to pass on the seventh day, that the battle draws near, and the sons of Israel smite Aram--a hundred thousand footmen in one day. ³⁰ And those left flee to Aphek, unto the city, and the wall falls on twenty and seven chief men who are left, and Ben-Hadad has fled, and comes in unto the city, into the innermost part. ³¹ And his servants say unto him, `Lo, we pray you, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel--that they are kind kings; let us put, we pray you, sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and we go out unto the king of Israel; it may be he does keep you alive.. <sup>32</sup> And they gird sackcloth on their loins, and ropes [are] on their heads, and they come in unto the king of Israel, and say, `Your servant Ben-Hadad has said, Let me live, I pray you;' and he said, `Is he yet alive? he [is] my brother.. <sup>33</sup> And the men observe diligently, and hasten, and catch it from him, and say, `Your brother Ben-Hadad;' and he said, `Go you in, bring him;' and Ben-Hadad comes out unto him, and he causes him to come up on the chariot. <sup>34</sup> And he said unto him, `The cities that my father took from your father, I give back, and streets you do make for you in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria;' --`and I, with a covenant, send you away;' and he makes with him a covenant, and sends him away. <sup>35</sup> And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbor by the word of Yahweh, `Smite me, I pray you;' and the man refuses to smite him, ³⁶ and he said to him, `Because that you have not hearkened to the voice of Yahweh, lo, you are going from me, and the lion has smitten you;' and he goes from him, and the lion finds him, and smites him. <sup>37</sup> And he finds another man, and said, `Smite me, I pray you;' and the man smites him, smiting and wounding, ³⁸ and the prophet goes and stands for the king on the way, and disguises himself with ashes on his eyes. ³⁹ And it comes to pass--the king is passing by--that he has cried unto the king, and said, `Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and lo, a man has turned aside and brings in unto me a man, and said, Keep this man; if he be at all missing, then has your life been for his life, or a talent of silver you do weigh out;" <sup>40</sup> and it comes to pass, your servant is working hither and thither, and he is not!' and the king of Israel said unto him, Right [is] your judgment; you have determined [it].. <sup>41</sup> And he hastes and turns aside the ashes from off his eyes, and the king of Israel discerns him, that he [is] of the prophets, <sup>42</sup> and he said unto him, `Thus said Yahweh, Because you have sent away the man I devoted, out of [your] hand, even your life has been for his life, and your people for his people;. ⁴³ and the king of Israel goes unto his house, sulky and wroth, and comes in to Samaria.

¹ And coming is it in the days of the reign of Amraphel, king of Shinar, and Arioch, king of Ellasar, and Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of nations, ² that they make war with Bera, king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, and Shinab, king of Admah, and Shemeber, king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela. (It is now Zoar.. ³ All these are joined at the vale of the salt fields. (It is now the salt sea.) ⁴ Twelve years they serve Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they revolt. ⁵ And in the fourteenth year comes Chedorlaomer, and the kings which are with him, and smiting are they the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the strong nations with them and the Emim in Shaveh towns,

⁷ And he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the riders of Egypt and third fighters in all of them.

²⁵ I will bring the sword on you avenging the vengeance of the covenant. When you will be gathered into your cities then I will send the plague into your midst, and you will be given into the hand of the enemy.

¹ When you go forth for battle against your enemies, and you see horses and chariots and a people more numerous than you, you should not fear them, for Yahweh your Elohim is with you, the One bringing you up from the country of Egypt.

⁵² It will lay siege against you in all your gates until your lofty and defended walls in which you will be trusting come down in all your land; and he will lay siege against you in all your gates in all your land that Yahweh your Elohim will have given to you.

⁷ and Adoni-Bezek said, `Seventy kings--their thumbs and their great toes cut off--have been gathering under my table; as I have done so has Elohim repaid to me;' and they bring him in to Jerusalem, and he dies there.

³ and the sons of Israel cry unto Yahweh, for he has nine hundred chariots of iron, and he has oppressed the sons of Israel mightily twenty years.

⁵ And the Philistines have been gathered to fight with Israel; thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and a people as the sand which [is] on the sea-shore for multitude; and they come up and encamp in Michmash, east of Beth-Aven.

¹⁸ And Asa takes all the silver and the gold that are left in the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, and gives them into the hand of his servants, and king Asa sends them unto Ben-Hadad, son of Tabrimmon, son of Hezion king of Aram, who is dwelling in Damascus, saying,

²⁰ And Ben-Hadad hearkens unto king Asa, and sends the heads of the forces that he has against cities of Israel, and smites Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-Beth-Maachah, and all Chinneroth, besides all the land of Naphtali;"

²⁴ and he buys the mount Samaria from Shemer, with two talents of silver, and builds [on] the mount, and calls the name of the city that he has built by the name of Shemer, lord of the hill--Samaria.

¹⁶ and they go out at noon, and Ben-Hadad is drinking--drunk in the booths, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings, helping him.

²⁴ `And this thing do you:turn aside the kings each out of his place, and set captains in their stead;"

³¹ And the king of Aram commanded the heads of the charioteers whom he has--thirty and two--saying, `You do not fight with small or with great, but with the king of Israel by himself..

²⁴ And it comes to pass afterwards, that Ben-Hadad king of Aram gathers all his camp, and goes up, and lays siege to Samaria, ²⁵ and there is a great famine in Samaria, and lo, they are laying siege to it, till the head of an ass is at eighty silverlings, and a fourth of the cab of dove's dung at five silverlings. ²⁶ And it comes to pass, the king of Israel is passing by on the wall, and a woman has cried unto him, saying, `Save, my lord, O king.. <sup>27</sup> And he said, `Yahweh does not save you--whence do I save you? out of the threshing-floor, or out of the wine-vat?. ²⁸ And the king said to her, `What--to you?' and she said, `This woman said unto me, Give your son, and we eat him to-day, and my son we eat to-morrow;" ²⁹ and we boil my son and eat him, and I say unto her on the next day, Give your son, and we eat him; and she hides her son..

⁷ And Elisha comes in to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram is sick, and it is declared to him, saying, `The man of Elohim has come hither.. <sup>8</sup> And the king said unto Hazael, `Take in your hand a present, and go to meet the man of Elohim, and you have sought Yahweh by him, saying, Do I revive from this sickness?. ⁹ And Hazael goes to meet him, and takes a present in his hand, even of every good thing of Damascus, a burden of forty camels, and he comes in and stands before him, and said, `Your son Ben-Hadad, king of Aram, has sent me unto you, saying, Do I revive from this sickness?. <sup>10</sup> And Elisha said unto him, `Go, say, You do certainly not revive, seeing Yahweh has showed me that he does surely die..

⁵ And the king of Asshur goes up into all the land, and he goes up to Samaria, and lays siege against it three years;" ⁶ in the ninth year of Hoshea has the king of Asshur captured Samaria, and removes Israel to Asshur, and causes them to dwell in Halah, and in Habor, [by] the river Gozan, and [in] the cities of the Medes.

² And Asa brings out silver and gold from the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and of the house of the king, and sends unto Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who is dwelling in Damascus, saying, ³ `A covenant [is] between me and you, and between my father and your father, lo, I have sent to you silver and gold; go, break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel, and he does go up from off me.. ⁴ And Ben-Hadad hearkens unto king Asa, and sends the heads of the forces that he has unto cities of Israel, and they smite Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-Maim, and all the stores, cities of Naphtali.

¹² Artaxerxes king of kings, to Ezra the priest, scholar in the edict of the Eloah of the heavens. Peace being perfected! And no.

⁸ For saying is he, "Are not my chiefs altogether kings?

²⁴ By the hand of your servants, your messengers, you reproach my Lord! And saying are you, `With a multitude of my chariots I go up the height of the mountains, the flanks of Lebanon, and I will cut the altitude of its cedars, its choice firs, and I will enter the height of its end, the wildwood of its crop land."

²⁷ And I have kindled a fire against the wall of Damascus, And it consumed palaces of Ben-Hadad!'"

⁷ For, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am bringing in unto Tyre Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, From the north--a king of kings, With horse, and with chariot, and with horsemen, Even an assembly, and a numerous people."

³⁷ You, O king, are king of kings, seeing that the Eloah of the heavens grants a safeguarded kingdom to you, and might and honor and esteem."

⁴ I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the citadels of the son of Hadad."

⁹ And he hears concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, saying, `Lo, he has come out to fight with you;' and he turns and sends messengers unto Hezekiah, saying,

² And the king of Assyria is sending the grand cupbearer from Lachish to Jerusalem to King Hezekiah, with a very heavy army. And he is standing in the trench of the uppermost reservoir, in the highway of the field of the launderer." ³ And faring forth to him is Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, who is over the household, and Shebna, the scribe, and Joah, son of Asaph, the recorder." ⁴ And saying to them is the grand cupbearer, "Say, pray, to Hezekiah, `Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, "What trust is this in which you trust? <sup>5</sup> You say, yea, a word of the lips, `Counsel and mastery for war.' Now, on whom do you trust, that you revolt against me? ⁶ Behold! You trust on a staff, this bruised reed, on Egypt, which, when a man is supported by it, then it enters into his palm and pierces it. So is Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to all those trusting in him." ⁷ `"And, in case you are saying to me, `In Yahweh, our Elohim, we trust,' is it not He Whose fane heights and altars Hezekiah took away when he is saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, `Before this altar shall you worship in Jerusalem'"? <sup>8</sup> `And now, pray, give hostages to my lord, the king of Assyria, and I will give to you two thousand horses, if you can put your riders on them." ⁹ Then how will you reverse the face of one viceroy of my lord's small servants? Yet you yourself are trusting on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen. ¹⁰ `And now, apart from Yahweh, did I come up against this land to ruin it? Yahweh said to me, "Go up to this land to ruin it."'" <sup>11</sup> And saying are Eliakim, and Shebna and Joah to the grand cupbearer, "Speak, pray, with your servants, with us in Syrian, for we have hearers, and you must not speak these words to us in Jewish. And why are you speaking in the ears of the people, these mortals who are sitting on the wall? <sup>12</sup> Yet saying is the grand cupbearer, "Is it to your lord and to you that my lord sends me to speak these words? Not to the mortals sitting on the wall, that shall eat their own excrement and drink their urine, with you? <sup>13</sup> And the grand cupbearer is standing and calling in a loud voice in Jewish, and saying, "Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria." <sup>14</sup> Thus saith the king of Assyria, `Hezekiah must not lure you by words, for he cannot rescue you." ¹⁵ Nor must Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, by saying, "Rescue, yea rescue us will Yahweh, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria." ¹⁶ You must not hearken to Hezekiah.' "For thus says the king of Assyria, `Make of me a blessing, and fare forth to me, and eat, each man of his vine and each man of his fig tree, and drink, each man the waters of his cistern, ¹⁷ till I come and take you to a land as your land, to a land of grain and grape juice, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olives, fresh oil and honey, and you shall live and not die. And you must not be hearkening to Hezekiah, ¹⁸ lest Hezekiah shall incite you, saying, "Yahweh will rescue you.Did the elohim of the nations rescue any man's land from the hand of the king of Assyria? ¹⁹ Where are the elohim of Hamath and Arphad? Where are the elohim of Sepharvaim, Hena and Ivah? And where are the elohim of the land of Samaria? And when have they rescued Samaria from my hand? ²⁰ Which, among all the elohim of these lands, have rescued their land from my hand, assuring you that Yahweh will rescue Jerusalem from my hand?'" ²¹ Yet they are silent, and do not answer him a word, for it is the instruction of the king, saying, "You shall not answer him." ²² And coming are Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, who is over the household, and Shebna, the scribe, and Joah, son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah, with torn garments, and they are telling him the words of the grand cupbearer."

⁹ And hearing is the king of Assyria concerning Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, saying, "He fares forth to fight you.When hearing this, he returns, and is sending messengers to Hezekiah, saying, ¹⁰ Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah, king of Judah, saying, `You must not be lured by your Elohim, in Whom you are trusting, saying, "Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."

⁹ The enemy said: I shall pursue! I shall overtake! I shall apportion the loot! My soul's desire shall be fulfilled on them! I shall unsheathe my sword! My hand shall evict them!

¹³ For, says he, "By the vigor of my hand I did it, and by my wisdom, for understanding have I. And I am taking away the boundaries of the peoples, and their equipment I rob. And I am bringing down, as a sturdy one, their dwellers, ¹⁴ and my hand is finding, as a nest, the estate of the peoples, and, as one gathers forsaken eggs, the entire earth do I gather. And no one comes to be ruffling a wing, or opening wide the mouth and chirping."

³⁶ As for the remainder among you, I will also bring timidity into their heart in the lands of their enemies so that the sound of a leaf being whisked away will pursue them, and they will flee as if in flight from the sword; they will fall even when there is no one pursuing.

⁴⁸ then you will serve your enemies whom Yahweh shall send forth against you, in famine and in thirst, in nakedness and in lack of everything. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until He has exterminated you.

¹¹ And three thousand men of Judah go down unto the cleft of the rock Etam, and say to Samson, `Have you now known that the Philistines are rulers over us? and what [is] this you have done to us?' And he said to them, `As they did to me, so I did to them.. ¹² And they say to him, `To bind you we have come down--to give you into the hand of the Philistines.' And Samson said to them, `Swear to me, lest you fall upon me yourselves.. ¹³ And they speak to him, saying, No, but we certainly bind you, and have given you into their hand, and we certainly do not put you to death;' and they bind him with two thick bands, new ones, and bring him up from the rock.

⁶ And the men of Israel have seen that they are distressed, that the people has been oppressed, and the people hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits. ⁷ And Hebrews have passed over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; and Saul [is] yet in Gilgal, and all the people have trembled after him.

¹⁴ and Hezekiah king of Judah sends unto the king of Asshur to Lachish, saying, `I have sinned, turn back from off me; that which you put on me I bear;' and the king of Asshur lays on Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold, ¹⁵ and Hezekiah gives all the silver that is found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasures of the house of the king;" ¹⁶ at that time has Hezekiah cut off the doors of the temple of Yahweh, and the pillars that Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gives them to the king of Asshur.

¹⁵ And taking is Rebecca the coveted garments of Esau, her elder son, which are with her in the house, and is putting them on Jacob, her smaller son.

¹⁹ And an artificer is not found in all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, `Lest the Hebrews make sword or spear;. ²⁰ and all Israel go down to the Philistines, to sharpen each his plowshare, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock;" ²¹ and there has been the file for mattocks, and for coulters, and for three-pronged rakes, and for the axes, and to set up the goads.

¹⁴ And David said unto Gad, `I have great distress, let us fall, I pray you, into the hand of Yahweh, for many [are] His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall..

³¹ `Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for thus said the king of Asshur, Make with me a blessing, and come out unto me, and eat you each of his vine, and each of his fig-tree, and drink you each the waters of his own well, ³² till my coming in, and I have taken you unto a land like your own land, a land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive, and honey, and live, and die not; and do not hearken unto Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, Yahweh does deliver us.

²⁷ twenty small bowls of gold valued at a thousand darics, and two vessels of good glistening copper, desirable as gold.

⁹ Formers of carvings, all of them are a chaos. And makers of their coveted idols shall fail to benefit. And their witnesses they will fail to see and fail to know, that they may be ashamed,

³⁴ Howl, you shepherds, and cry, And roll yourselves, you honorable of the flock, For full have been your days, For slaughtering, and [for] your scatterings, And you have fallen as a desirable vessel."

⁷ Jerusalem remembers in the days of her humiliation and her homelessness, all her coveted things that were from days of long ago, When her people fell into the hand of the foe, and there was no help for her. The foes saw her; they made sport of her dissolution."

¹⁰ The foe has spread out his hand over all her coveted things; Indeed she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary, Concerning whom You had instructed that they should not enter Your assembly."

¹⁵ Seeing that he is parting between his brothers, an east wind shall come. The wind of Yahweh shall come up from the wilderness, and it will dry up his fountain, and it will drain his spring. He shall rob the treasure of every coveted furnishing."

⁵ you who have taken My silver and My gold, and have brought My coveted good things to your temples."

¹ Then does Solomon assemble the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, princes of the fathers of the sons of Israel, unto king Solomon, to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Yahweh from the city of David--it [is] Zion;"

⁷ And it comes to pass, at the king of Israel's reading the letter, that he rends his garments, and said, `Am I Elohim, to put to death and to keep alive, that this [one] is sending unto me to recover a man from his leprosy? for surely know, I pray you, and see, for he is presenting himself to me..

¹ And David consults with the heads of the thousands, and of the hundreds, every leader,

¹ And David assembles all the heads of Israel, heads of the tribes, and heads of the courses who are serving the king, and heads of the thousands, and heads of the hundreds, and heads of all the substance and possessions of the king, and of his sons, with the officers and the mighty ones, even to every mighty one of valor--unto Jerusalem.

³⁵ They are pregnant with misery and beget lawlessness, And their belly, it prepares deceit.

¹⁴ Behold, he shall be cramped with lawlessness, And he will become pregnant with toil, And he will generate falsehood.

⁴ He devises lawlessness on his bed; He stations himself on a pathway that is not good; He does not reject what is evil.

³ How long shall you foes be hostile against a man, All of you, that you may murder him, As though he were a slanting sidewall Or a foundering stone dike?

² Those who devise evil deeds in their heart, All day long they stir up warfare;"

¹⁴ Duplicity is in his heart; It is engrossed with evil all the time; It is instigating quarrels.

¹⁴ When there are no strategies a people shall fall, Yet in many counsellors there is safety."

²⁷ He who seeks early for good shall discover benevolence, Yet he who seeks after evil, it shall come to him."

² For their heart cogitates on devastation, And their lips plan misery."

²⁷ Then the two kings, with evil in their hearts, will sit at one table. Lies will they speak, which shall not prosper, for it is yet further to the end, to the time appointed."

¹³ A sepulcher opened is their throat. With their tongues they defraud."The venom of asps is under their lips." ¹⁴ Whose mouth with imprecation and bitterness is crammed. ¹⁵ Sharp are their feet to shed blood. ¹⁶ Bruises and wretchedness are in their ways, ¹⁷ And the way of peace they do not know." ¹⁸ There is no fear of God in front of their eyes.

⁸ Then all these, your servants, will descend to me and bow themselves down to me, saying: Go forth, you and all the people who follow in your footsteps! And afterward I shall go forth. So he went forth from Pharaoh in the heat of anger.

¹⁰ And Barak calls Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he goes up--at his feet [are] ten thousand men--and Deborah goes up with him.

¹² and we have come in unto him in one of the places where he is found, and we [are] upon him as the dew falls on the ground, and there has not been left of him and of all the men who [are] with him even one. ¹³ And if unto a city he is gathered, then they have caused all Israel to bear unto that city ropes, and we have drawn it unto the brook till that there has not been found there even a stone..

² and Jezebel sends a messenger unto Elijah, saying, `Thus does the elohims, and thus do they add, surely about this time to-morrow, I make your life as the life of one of them..

²³ By the hand of your messengers You have reproached the Lord, and say:In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of mountains--The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the lodging of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel. ²⁴ I have digged, and drunk strange waters, And I dry up with the sole of my steps All floods of a bulwark.

²⁴ By the hand of your servants, your messengers, you reproach my Lord! And saying are you, `With a multitude of my chariots I go up the height of the mountains, the flanks of Lebanon, and I will cut the altitude of its cedars, its choice firs, and I will enter the height of its end, the wildwood of its crop land." ²⁵ I scoop and drink waters that are alien, and I will drain with the sole of my footfalls all the waterways of the besieged.'"

¹² Now, day coming on, making a conspiracy, the Jews anathematize themselves, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they should kill Paul."

⁶ And Jonathan said unto the young man bearing his weapons, `Come, and we pass over unto the station of these uncircumcised; it may be Yahweh does work for us, for there is no restraint to Yahweh to save by many or by few..

¹² And the men of the station answer Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons, and say, `Come up unto us, and we cause you to know something.' And Jonathan said unto the bearer of his weapons, `Come up after me, for Yahweh has given them into the hand of Israel.. ¹³ And Jonathan goes up on his hands, and on his feet, and the bearer of his weapons after him; and they fall before Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons is putting to death after him.

⁴⁴ and the Philistine said unto David, `Come unto me, and I give your flesh to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the field.. <sup>45</sup> And David said unto the Philistine, `You are coming unto me with sword, and with spear, and with buckler, and I am coming unto you in the name of Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of the ranks of Israel, which you have reproached. ⁴⁶ This day does Yahweh shut you up into my hand--and I have smitten you, and turned aside your head from off you, and given the carcase of the camp of the Philistines this day to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth, and all the earth do know that Elohim is for Israel. ⁴⁷ and all this assembly do know that not by sword and by spear does Yahweh save, that the battle [is] Yahweh's, and He has given you into our hand..

¹ Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may generate."

¹¹ Again I saw under the sun That the race is not to the fleet, Nor the battle to valiant masters, Nor even bread for the wise, Nor even riches for the understanding, Nor even favor for the knowing, For season and mischance shall happen to them all."

¹⁵ Will the axe beautify itself over the one hewing with it? Should the chief's mace magnify itself over the one waving it? As if a club is also waving the one raising it! As if a rod is raising one who is not wood! ¹⁶ Wherefore, the Lord Yahweh of hosts will send upon his stout ones leanness. And under his glory will glow a glowing as the glowing of fire."

³³ Yet, answering, Peter said to Him, "And if all shall be snared in Thee, I will never be snared!" ³⁴ Jesus averred to him, "Verily, I am saying to you that in this night, ere a cock crows, thrice will you be renouncing Me." ³⁵ Peter is saying to Him, "And if ever I must die together with Thee, I will under no circumstances be renouncing Thee!Likewise said all the disciples also."

⁷⁵ And immediately a cock crows. And Peter is reminded of the declaration of Jesus in which He had declared to him that "Ere a cock may crow, thrice will you be renouncing Me.And, coming outside, he laments bitterly."

³⁶ And Abigail comes in unto Nabal, and lo, he has a banquet in his house, like a banquet of the king, and the heart of Nabal [is] glad within him, and he [is] drunk unto excess, and she has not declared to him anything, less or more, till the light of the morning.

²⁸ And Absalom commands his young men, saying, `See, I pray you, when the heart of Amnon [is] glad with wine, and I have said unto you, Smite Amnon, that you have put him to death; fear not; is it not because I have commanded you? be strong, yea, become sons of valor..

⁹ and conspire against him does his servant Zimri (head of the half of the chariots) and he [is] in Tirzah drinking--a drunkard in the house of Arza, who [is] over the house in Tirzah.

⁴ It must not be for kings, O Lemuel, It must not be for kings to drink wine, Or for chancellors to yearn for intoxicant, ⁵ Lest such a one should drink and forget the statute, And alter the adjudication of all the sons of humiliation."

¹⁰ and you have said unto them:Thus said Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:`Lo, I am sending, and I have taken Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and I have set his throne above these stones that I have hid, and he has stretched out his pavilion over them,

² When tasting the turbid wine, Belshazzar says to bring hither the gold and silver vessels of the house of Eloah which his grandfather Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, that they may drink from them--the king and his grandees, his consorts and his concubines."

³⁰ In the same night Belshazzar is despatched, the king of the Chaldeans. Thus the interpretation comes on Belshazzar the king:The kingdom is taken away from the Chaldeans and given to the Medes and Persians."

³⁴ Now take heed to yourselves, lest at some time your hearts should be burdened with crapulence and drunkenness and the worries of life's affairs, and that day may be standing by you unawares,

¹⁸ And be not drunk with wine, in which is profligacy, but be filled full with spirit,

¹⁸ Then the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I am glorified over Pharaoh, over his chariots and over his horsemen.

¹² I have heard the grumblings of the sons of Israel. Speak to them saying, Between the evening hours you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall be satisfied with bread. Then you will realize that I am Yahweh your Elohim.

³⁶ And it comes to pass, at the going up of the [evening -]present, that Elijah the prophet comes nigh and said, `Yahweh, Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that You [are] Elohim in Israel, and I Your servant, that by Your word I have done the whole of these things;" ³⁷ answer me, O Yahweh, answer me, and this people does know that You [are] Yahweh Elohim; and You have turned their heart backward..

²⁸ And there comes nigh a man of Elohim, and speaks unto the king of Israel, and said, `Thus said Yahweh, Because that the Arameans have said, Elohim of hills [is] Yahweh, and He [is] not Elohim of valleys--I have given the whole of this great multitude into your hand, and you have known that I [am] Yahweh..

⁸ And the king of Aram has been fighting against Israel, and takes counsel with his servants, saying, `At such and such a place [is] my encamping.. <sup>9</sup> And the man of Elohim sends unto the king of Israel, saying, `Take heed of passing by this place, for thither are the Arameans coming down;" ¹⁰ and the king of Israel sends unto the place of which the man of Elohim spoke to him, and warned him, and he is preserved there not once nor twice. ¹¹ And the heart of the king of Aram is tossed about concerning this thing, and he calls unto his servants, and said unto them, `Do you not declare to me who of us [is] for the king of Israel?. <sup>12</sup> And one of his servants said, `Nay, my lord, O king, for Elisha the prophet, who [is] in Israel, declares to the king of Israel the words that you speak in the inner part of your bed-chamber..

¹ And Elisha said, `Hear you a word of Yahweh:thus said Yahweh, About this time to-morrow, a measure of fine flour [is] at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, in the gate of Samaria..

²³ and Yahweh does favor them, and pity them, and turn unto them, for the sake of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and has not been willing to destroy them, nor to cast them from His presence as yet.

¹⁸ So that men may realize that You, You, Whose Name is Yahweh, Yours alone, Are the Supreme over all the earth. {Permanent, On the Wine Trough{ "

¹ And coming is it in the days of Ahaz, the son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, up goes Rezin, king of Syria, and Pekah, son of Remaliah, king of Israel, to Jerusalem to fight against it. Yet they cannot fight against it." ² And it is being told the house of David, saying, "Guided is Syria over Ephraim.And swaying is his heart, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wildwood sway from facing the wind." ³ And Yahweh is saying to Isaiah, "Fare forth, pray, to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-Jashub, your son, to the end of the trench of the uppermost reservoir, to the highway of the field of the launderer." ⁴ And say to him, `Beware! And be quiet! You must not fear, and your heart must not be tender, because of these two tails of the smoking wooden pokers, that are by the hot anger of Rezin and Syria, and Remaliah's son." ⁵ Forasmuch as Syria counsels evil against you, with Ephraim and Remaliah's son, saying, ⁶ We will go up into Judah and end it, and we will rend it to us, and we will cause a king to reign in its midst--the son of Tabeal;"'" ⁷ Thus says my Lord, Yahweh of hosts, "This counsel shall not be confirmed, and it shall not come to pass." ⁸ For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin, and in sixty five years further Ephraim shall be cracked from being a people." ⁹ And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If you are not believing, then you are not being faithful."

²⁰ And now, Yahweh, our Elohim, pray, save us, from his hand, and all the kingdoms of the earth shall know that You, Yahweh, are Elohim, You alone."

⁷ And fallen has the wounded in your midst, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh."

¹⁴ And I do [it] for My name's sake, Not to pollute [it] before the eyes of the nations, Before whose eyes I brought them forth."

²² And I have turned back My hand, And I do [it] for My name's sake, Not to pollute [it] before the eyes of the nations, Before whose eyes I brought them out."

¹⁷ And you shall know that I am Yahweh, your Elohim, tabernacling in Zion, My holy mountain. And Jerusalem shall come to be a holy city, and aliens shall pass in her no longer."

¹⁴ And hearing is Abram that Lot, his brother, is captured. And numbering is he those dedicated to him, born in his household, three hundred and eighteen, and is pursuing them as far as Dan. ¹⁵ And, being apportioned, falling is his force on them by night, he and his servants. And smiting them is he, and pursuing them as far as Hobah, which is to the left of Damascus. ¹⁶ And restoring is he all the goods of Sodom, and, moreover, he restored Lot, his brother, and his goods, and moreover, the women and the people.

¹⁶ And he divides the three hundred men [into] three detachments, and puts trumpets into the hand of all of them, and empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers. ¹⁷ And he said unto them, `Look at me, and thus do; and lo, I am coming into the extremity of the camp--and it has been--as I do so you do;" <sup>18</sup> and I have blown with a trumpet--I and all who [are] with me, and you have blown with trumpets, even you, round about all the camp, and have said, For Yahweh and for Gideon.. <sup>19</sup> And Gideon comes--and the hundred men who [are] with him--into the extremity of the camp, [at] the beginning of the middle watch (it has only just confirmed the watchmen), and they blow with trumpets--dashing in pieces also the pitchers which [are] in their hand;" <sup>20</sup> and the three detachments blow with trumpets, and break the pitchers, and keep hold with their left hand on the lamps, and with their right hand on the trumpets to blow, and they cry, `The sword of Yahweh and of Gideon..

⁵⁰ And David is stronger than the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smites the Philistine, and puts him to death, and there is no sword in the hand of David,

⁴⁴ And it comes to pass, at the seventh, that he said, `Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.' And he said, `Go up, say unto Ahab, `Bind--and go down, and the shower does not restrain you..

²⁷ but the stupidity of the world God chooses, that He may be disgracing the wise, and the weakness of the world God chooses, that He may be disgracing the strong, ²⁸ and the ignoble and the contemptible things of the world God chooses, and that which is not, that He may be discarding that which is, ²⁹ so that no flesh at all should be boasting in God's sight.

⁷ And Yahweh said unto Gideon, `By the three hundred men who are lapping I save you, and have given Midian into your hand, and all the people go, each to his place..

¹⁶ And he divides the three hundred men [into] three detachments, and puts trumpets into the hand of all of them, and empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

² And Saul is abiding at the extremity of Gibeah, under the pomegranate which [is] in Migron, and the people who [are] with him, about six hundred men,

¹⁸ and I have left in Israel seven thousand, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him..

⁷ for he left not to Jehoahaz of the people except fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen, for the king of Aram has destroyed them, and makes them as dust for threshing.

¹¹ And Asa calls unto Yahweh his Elohim, and said, `Yahweh! it is nothing with You to help, between the mighty and those who have no power; help us, O Yahweh, our Elohim, for on You we have leant, and in Your name we have come against this multitude; O Yahweh, our Elohim you [are]; let him not prevail with You--mortal man!"

⁴⁰ So the anger of Yahweh grew hot against His people, And He abhorred His allotment." ⁴¹ He gave them into the hand of the nations So that those hating them ruled among them. ⁴² Their enemies oppressed them, And they were made to submit under their hand." ⁴³ Many times He rescued them, But they were rebellious in their counsel, And they were reduced lower in their depravity."

⁷ And also by the hand of Jehu son of Hanani the prophet a word of Yahweh has been concerning Baasha, and concerning his house, and concerning all the evil that he did in the eyes of Yahweh to provoke Him to anger with the work of his hands, to be like the house of Jeroboam, and concerning that for which he smote him.

¹¹ And the king of Israel answers and said, `Speak you:let not him who is girding on boast himself as him who is loosing [his armor].. <sup>12</sup> And it comes to pass at the hearing of this word--and he is drinking, he and the kings, in the booths--that he said unto his servants, `Set yourselves;' and they set themselves against the city.

²⁹ Who has woe? who has uneasiness? who has quarrels? Who has deep concerns? who has gratuitous injuries? Who has bloodshot eyes? ³⁰ They have who delay over wine, Who come to investigate a blend." ³¹ Do not stare at wine when it is red, When it casts its sparkle in the cup and goes down evenly." ³² Its aftereffect shall bite like a serpent And spread pain like a yellow viper.

¹⁶ Woe to you, O country, whose king is a youth, And whose chiefs eat feasts in the morning." ¹⁷ Happy are you, O country, whose king is a son of notables, And whose chiefs eat in season For mastery and not for a drinking bout."

¹⁵ Behold! One shall sojourn, yea sojourn only because of Me, and who sojourns with you, to you shall fall."

¹¹ and wine and grape juice shall take their heart.

¹⁴ And Ahab said, `By whom?' and he said, `Thus said Yahweh, By the young men of the heads of the provinces;' and he said, `Who does direct the battle?' and he said, `You.. ¹⁵ And he inspects the young men of the heads of the provinces, and they are two hundred, two and thirty, and after them he has inspects the whole of the people, all the sons of Israel, seven thousand,

¹⁹ And these have gone out of the city--the young men of the heads of the provinces--and the force that [is] after them,

³ You multiply not--you speak haughtily--The old saying goes out from your mouth, For a El of knowledge [is] Yahweh, And by Him actions are weighed. ⁴ Bows of the mighty are broken, And the stumbling have girded on strength.

¹¹ And revealed are both of them unto the station of the Philistines, and the Philistines say, `Lo, Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have hid themselves.. <sup>12</sup> And the men of the station answer Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons, and say, `Come up unto us, and we cause you to know something.' And Jonathan said unto the bearer of his weapons, `Come up after me, for Yahweh has given them into the hand of Israel..

⁴⁴ and the Philistine said unto David, `Come unto me, and I give your flesh to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the field..

⁸ then has Amaziah sent messengers unto Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, `Come, we look one another in the face.. <sup>9</sup> And Jehoash king of Israel sends unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that [is] in Lebanon has sent unto the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by does a beast of the field that [is] in Lebanon, and treads down the thorn. ¹⁰ You have certainly smitten Edom, and your heart has lifted you up; be honored, and abide in your house; and why do you stir yourself up in evil, that you have fallen, you, and Judah with you?. ¹¹ And Amaziah has not hearkened, and go up does Jehoash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that [is] Judah's, ¹² and Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee each to his tent.

¹² The heart of a man is haughty before a breaking, Yet humility comes before glory."

⁸ five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you shall pursue a myriad, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.

²⁰ and the three detachments blow with trumpets, and break the pitchers, and keep hold with their left hand on the lamps, and with their right hand on the trumpets to blow, and they cry, `The sword of Yahweh and of Gideon.. ²¹ And they stand each in his place, round about the camp, and all the camp runs, and they shout, and flee;" ²² and the three hundred blow the trumpets, and Yahweh sets the sword of each against his companion, even through all the camp; and the camp flees unto Beth-Shittah, at Zererath, unto the border of Abel-Meholah, by Tabbath.

¹³ And Jonathan goes up on his hands, and on his feet, and the bearer of his weapons after him; and they fall before Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons is putting to death after him. ¹⁴ And the first smiting which Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons have smitten is of about twenty men, in about half a furrow of a yoke of a field, ¹⁵ and there is a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people, the station and the destroyers have trembled--even they, and the earth shakes, and it becomes a trembling of Elohim.

¹⁶ And he brings him down, and lo, they are spread out over the face of all the earth, eating, and drinking, and feasting, with all the great spoil which they have taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah. ¹⁷ And David smites them from the twilight even unto the evening of the morrow, and there has not escaped of them a man, except four hundred young men who have ridden on the camels, and are fled.

¹⁶ And they lay hold, each on the head of his companion, and his sword [is] in the side of his companion, and they fall together, and [one] calls that place Helkath-Hazzurim, which [is] in Gibeon,

⁶ seeing Yahweh has caused the camp of Aram to hear a noise of chariot and a noise of horse--a noise of great force, and they say one unto another, `Lo, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Egypt, to come against us.. ⁷ And they rise and flee in the twilight, and forsake their tents, and their horses, and their asses--the camp as it [is] --and flee for their life.

³⁶ And Sennacherib king of Asshur journeys, and goes, and turns back, and dwells in Nineveh;"

¹⁶ The king is not saved by a great army; A master is not rescued by great vigor;

⁶ The nations clamor; the kingdoms slip; He will give forth His voice; the earth shall dissolve.

²⁸ and he said unto them, `Pursue after me, for Yahweh has given your enemies, the Moabites, into your hand;' and they go down after him, and capture the passages of the Jordan towards Moab, and have not permitted a man to pass over.

²³ And the men of Israel are called from Naphtali, and from Asher, and from all Manasseh, and pursue after Midian. ²⁴ And messengers has sent Gideon into all the hill-country of Ephraim, saying, `Come down to meet Midian, and capture before them the waters unto Beth-Barah, and the Jordan;' and every man of Ephraim is called, and they capture the waters unto Beth-Barah, and the Jordan, ²⁵ and they capture two of the heads of Midian, Oreb, and Zeeb, and slay Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they have slain at the wine-vat of Zeeb, and they pursue unto Midian; and the heads of Oreb and Zeeb they have brought in unto Gideon beyond the Jordan.

²⁰ And Saul is called, and all the people who [are] with him, and they come in unto the battle, and, lo, the sword of each has been against his neighbor--a very great destruction. ²¹ And the Hebrews [who] have been for the Philistines as heretofore, who had gone up with them into the camp, have turned round, even they, to be with Israel who [are] with Saul and Jonathan, ²² and all the men of Israel, who are hiding themselves in the hill-country of Ephraim, have heard that the Philistines have fled, and they pursue--even they--after them in battle.

⁵² And the men of Israel rise--also Judah--and shout, and pursue the Philistines till you enter the valley, and unto the gates of Ekron, and the wounded of the Philistines fall in the way of Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron,

¹⁸ `And this has been light in the eyes of Yahweh, and he has given Moab into your hand,

²⁴ And they come in unto the camp of Israel, and the Israelites rise, and smite the Moabites, and they flee from their face; and they enter into Moab, so as to smite Moab,

¹ And it comes to pass, at the revolution of the year--at the time of the going out of the messengers--that David sends Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel, and they destroy the Bene-Ammon, and lay siege against Rabbah. And David is dwelling in Jerusalem,

¹⁰ And he said, `I have been very zealous for Yahweh, Elohim of Hosts, for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant--Your altars they have thrown down, and Your prophets they have slain by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life--to take it..

¹³ And lo, a certain prophet has come nigh unto Ahab king of Israel, and said, `Thus said Yahweh, `Have you seen all this great multitude? lo, I am giving it into your hand to-day, and you have known that I [am] Yahweh..

²⁶ And it comes to pass at the turn of the year, that Ben-Hadad inspects the Arameans, and goes up to Aphek, to battle with Israel,

³⁸ and the prophet goes and stands for the king on the way, and disguises himself with ashes on his eyes.

⁸ And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, `Yet--one man to seek Yahweh by him, and I have hated him, for he does not prophesy concerning me good, but evil--Micaiah son of Imlah;' and Jehoshaphat said, `Let not the king say so..

¹² And one of his servants said, `Nay, my lord, O king, for Elisha the prophet, who [is] in Israel, declares to the king of Israel the words that you speak in the inner part of your bed-chamber..

¹ And it comes to pass, at the time of the turn of the year--at the time of the going out of the messengers--that Joab leads out the force of the host, and destroys the land of the sons of Ammon, and comes in and besieges Rabbah--David is abiding in Jerusalem--and Joab smites Rabbah, and breaks it down.

⁸ but if you are going--do [it], be strong for battle, Elohim does cause you to stumble before an enemy, for there is power in Elohim to help, and to cause to stumble..

¹¹ And Amaziah has strengthened himself, and leads his people, and goes to the Valley of Salt, and smites the sons of Seir--ten thousand.

¹⁴ Be expectant toward Yahweh; Be steadfast, and let your heart be resolute. Yea, be expectant toward Yahweh."

² Why should the nations say, Where, pray, is their Elohim? ³ Indeed our Elohim is in the heavens; All that He desires, He does."

¹⁰ The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; The righteous one runs to it and is made impregnable.

¹⁸ Designs should be established by counsel; Execute war according to strategy.

⁹ Know, you peoples, and be dismayed! And give ear, all you far from the land! Belt yourselves and be dismayed! Belt yourselves and be dismayed!"

¹¹ Yahweh, Your exalted hand they will fail to perceive. Yet they shall perceive and be shamed by the zeal of the disciplined people. Indeed, the fire of Your foes will devour them."

⁸ I am Yahweh, The Elohim! That is My name, and I will not give My glory to another, nor My praises to carvings."

⁹ Proclaim this among the nations! Hallow a war! Rouse the masters! All the mortals of war shall come close and ascend. ¹⁰ Pound your mattocks into swords and your pruning hooks into lances! The defeatist shall say, a master am I!"

¹⁰ For the rest, brethren mine, be invigorated in the Lord and in the might of His strength."

⁸ Woe to us, who does deliver us out of the hand of these honorable elohims? these [are] the elohims who are smiting the Egyptians with every plague in the wilderness.

²³ And they build--also they--for themselves high places, and standing-pillars, and shrines, on every high height, and under every green tree;"

¹² did the elohims of the nations deliver them whom my fathers destroyed--Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the sons of Eden, who [are] in Thelassar?

¹³ `Do you not know what I have done--I and my fathers--to all peoples of the lands? Were the elohims of the nations of the lands at all able to deliver their land out of my hand? <sup>14</sup> Who among all the elohims of these nations whom my fathers have devoted to destruction [is] he who has been able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your Elohim is able to deliver you out of my hand? <sup>15</sup> `And, now, let not Hezekiah lift you up, nor persuade you thus, nor give credence to him, for no elohim of any nation and kingdom is able to deliver his people from my hand, and from the hand of my fathers:also, surely your Eloah does not deliver you from my hand!. ¹⁶ And again have his servants spoken against Yahweh Elohim, and against Hezekiah His servant, ¹⁷ and letters he has written to give reproach to Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, `As the elohims of the nations of the lands that have not delivered their people from my hand, so the Elohim of Hezekiah does not deliver His people from my hand.. ¹⁸ And they call with a great voice [in] Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who [are] on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them, that they may capture the city, ¹⁹ and they speak against the Elohim of Jerusalem as against the elohims of the peoples of the land--work of the hands of man.

²¹ You do these things, yet I keep silent; You imagined that I should become, yea become like you. I shall reprove you, and I will arrange the charge before your eyes." ²² Now understand this, you who are forgetting Eloah, Lest I should tear you to pieces, and there be no rescuer."

¹ {A Song for Ascents{ I am lifting my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? ² My help is from Yahweh, Maker of the heavens and earth."

²¹ because, knowing God, not as God do they glorify or thank Him, but vain were they made in their reasonings, and darkened is their unintelligent heart." ²² Alleging themselves to be wise, they are made stupid, ²³ and they change the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of an image of a corruptible human being and flying creatures and quadrupeds and reptiles.

¹ And Ben-Hadad king of Aram has gathered all his force, and thirty and two kings [are] with him, and horse and chariot, and he goes up and lays siege against Samaria, and fights with it,

³⁰ There is no wisdom, there is no comprehension, And there is no counsel in confronting Yahweh."

³ For the wicked one boasts over the lusting of his soul, And the greedy one scorns, Yea, he spurns Yahweh.

⁴ `From the south, all the land of the Canaanite, and Mearah, which [is] to the Sidonians, unto Aphek, unto the border of the Amorite;"

³⁰ and Ummah, and Aphek, and Rehob; twenty and two cities and their villages.

³¹ Asher has not dispossessed the inhabitants of Accho, and the inhabitants of Zidon, and Ahlab, and Achzib, and Helbah, and Aphik, and Rehob;"

¹ And the word of Samuel is to all Israel, and Israel goes out to meet the Philistines for battle, and they encamp by Eben-Ezer, and the Philistines have encamped in Aphek,

¹ And the Philistines gather all their camps to Aphek, and the Israelites are encamping at a fountain which [is] in Jezreel,

²² And the prophet comes nigh unto the king of Israel, and said to him, `Go, strengthen yourself, and know and see that which you do, for at the turn of the year the king of Aram is coming up against you..

³⁰ And those left flee to Aphek, unto the city, and the wall falls on twenty and seven chief men who are left, and Ben-Hadad has fled, and comes in unto the city, into the innermost part.

¹⁷ and said, `Open the window eastward;' and he opens, and Elisha said, `Shoot,' and he shoots; and he said, `An arrow of salvation to Yahweh, and an arrow of salvation against Aram, and you have smitten Aram, in Aphek, till consuming..

³⁰ How could one pursue a thousand or two put a myriad to flight, if it were not that their Rock had sold them, and Yahweh had surrounded them?

¹¹ `Pass over into the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, Prepare for yourselves provision, for within three days you are passing over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you to possess it..

⁵ for they and their cattle come up, with their tents; they come in as the fulness of the locust for multitude, and of them and of their cattle there is no number, and they come into the land to destroy it.

⁸ And the people take the provision in their hand, and their trumpets, and every man of Israel he has sent away, each to his tents; and on the three hundred men he has kept hold, and the camp of Midian has been by him at the lower part of the valley.

⁵ And the Philistines have been gathered to fight with Israel; thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and a people as the sand which [is] on the sea-shore for multitude; and they come up and encamp in Michmash, east of Beth-Aven. ⁶ And the men of Israel have seen that they are distressed, that the people has been oppressed, and the people hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits. ⁷ And Hebrews have passed over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; and Saul [is] yet in Gilgal, and all the people have trembled after him. ⁸ And he waits seven days, according to the appointment with Samuel, and Samuel has not come to Gilgal, and the people are scattered from off him.

⁷ `Be strong and courageous, be not afraid, nor be cast down from the face of the king of Asshur, and from the face of all the multitude that [is] with him, for with us [are] more than with him. ⁸ With him [is] an arm of flesh, and with us [is] Yahweh our Elohim, to help us, and to fight our battles;' and the people are supported by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

⁷ I will take you to Me as a people. I will become to you as Elohim, and you will realize that I am Yahweh your Elohim, Who brought you forth from beneath the burdens of the Egyptians.

⁵ And all the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I stretch out My hand over Egypt and bring forth the sons of Israel from their midst.

²² Yet I will distinguish, in that day, the land of Goshen on which My people are standing, that by no means there come to be there a mixture of flies so that you may know that I am Yahweh within the land.

⁶ You did not eat bread, neither did you drink wine nor intoxicant, so that you might know that I, Yahweh, am your Elohim.

²⁷ unless I shrank away from the vexation of the enemy; lest their foes misconstrue, lest they say:Our hand is high, and it was not Yahweh Who contrived all this.

⁸ Oh, Lord, what do I say, after that Israel has turned the neck before its enemies? ⁹ and the Canaanite and all the inhabitants of the land do hear, and have come round against us, and cut off our name out of the earth; and what do You do for Your great name?.

¹ And lo, a man of Elohim has come from Judah, by the word of Yahweh, unto Beth-El, and Jeroboam is standing by the altar--to make perfume;"

¹⁸ And she said unto Elijah, `What--to me and to you, O man of Elohim? you have come unto me to cause mine iniquity to be remembered, and to put my son to death!.

²² And the prophet comes nigh unto the king of Israel, and said to him, `Go, strengthen yourself, and know and see that which you do, for at the turn of the year the king of Aram is coming up against you.. <sup>23</sup> And the servants of the king of Aram said unto him, `Elohims of hills [are] their elohims, therefore they were stronger than we; and yet, we fight with them in the plain--are we not stronger than they?

¹⁴ And upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, has the Spirit of Yahweh been, in the midst of the assembly, ¹⁵ and he said, `Attend, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Yahweh to you, You fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you [is] the battle, but for Elohim. <sup>16</sup> To-morrow, go you down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and you have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel. <sup>17</sup> Not for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem--be not afraid nor fear you--to-morrow go out before them, and Yahweh [is] with you.. <sup>18</sup> And Jehoshaphat bows--face to the earth--and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Yahweh, to bow themselves to Yahweh. <sup>19</sup> And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, with a loud voice on high. <sup>20</sup> And they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat has stood and said, `Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Yahweh your Elohim, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper..

¹⁶ With Him are strength and prosperity; Both the erring one and the one causing error are His. ¹⁷ Causing counselors to go forth looted, He also makes judges rave as fools. ¹⁸ He unlooses the disciplining authority of kings, And He binds a belt about their waists. ¹⁹ Causing priests to go forth looted, He also overthrows the well-established.

¹⁰ The righteous one shall rejoice when he perceives the vengeance; He shall bathe his footsteps in the blood of the wicked one. ¹¹ Then mankind shall say, Yea, there is fruit for the righteous; Yea, there is an Elohim Who is judging in the earth! {Permanent{ {O Do Not Bring Ruin!{ "

¹⁰ Why should the nations say, Where is their Elohim? Let it be made known among the nations before our eyes:Vengeance for the shed blood of Your servants."

²⁹ Because your perturbance against Me and your tumult ascends in My ears, so I will place My gaff in your nose, and My bit in your lips, and I will reverse you by the way in which you came." ³⁰ And this is the sign for you:Eat for the year the self-sown, and in the second year the spontaneous growth. Yet in the third year, sow and reap, and plant vineyards and eat their fruit." ³¹ And, in addition, the delivered of the house of Judah, the remnant finds root downward, and yields fruit upward, ³² for from Jerusalem shall fare forth a remnant, and the delivered from mount Zion. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this." ³³ Wherefore, thus says Yahweh as to the king of Assyria:"He shall not come into this city, and not direct an arrow there, and he shall not precede it with a shield, and he shall not pour out against it an earthwork." ³⁴ By the way which he came, by it shall he return. Yet into this city he shall not enter,averring is Yahweh." ³⁵ And I am a protection over this city, to save it on My Own account, and on account of David, My servant." ³⁶ And faring forth is a messenger of Yahweh and smiting in the Assyrian camp a hundred and eighty five thousand. And the king is rising early in the morning--and behold! All of them are corpses--dead! ³⁷ And decamping, and going, and returning is Sennacherib, king of Assyria, and he is dwelling in Nineveh."

⁷ Surely our iniquities have testified against us, O Yahweh, work for Your name's sake, For many have been our backslidings, Against You we have sinned."

¹⁴ And I have stretched out my hand against them, And have made the land a desolation, Even a desolation from the wilderness to Diblath, In all their dwellings, And they have known that I [am] Yahweh!'"

¹² And you have known that I [am] Yahweh, For in My statutes you have not walked, And My Judgments you have not done, And according to the judgments of the nations Who are round about you--you have done!'"

¹⁶ and I have left of them, a few in number, from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence, so that they recount all their abominations among the nations whither they have come, and they have known that I [am] Yahweh.'"

⁹ And I do [it] for My name's sake, Not to pollute [it] before the eyes of the nations, In whose midst they [are], Before whose eyes I became known to them, To bring them out from the land of Egypt."

²¹ And I have pity on My holy name, That the house of Israel have polluted among nations whither they have gone in." ²² Therefore, say to the house of Israel, Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Not for your sake am I working, O house of Israel, But--for My holy name, That you have polluted among nations whither you have gone in." ²³ And I have sanctified My great name, That is profaned among nations, That you have polluted in your midst, And known have the nations that I [am] Yahweh, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, In My being sanctified in you before your eyes."

³² Not for your sake am I working, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, Be it known to you, Be ashamed and confounded, because of your ways, O house of Israel."

⁷ And My holy name I make known in the midst of My people Israel, And I pollute not My holy name any more, And known have the nations that I, Yahweh, the Holy One, [am] in Israel."

¹⁵ And it comes to pass, on the seventh day, that they rise early, at the ascending of the dawn, and compass the city, according to this manner, seven times; (only, on that day they have compassed the city seven times);"

¹⁶ And the Philistine draws nigh, morning and evening, and stations himself forty days.

¹⁸ and Aram flees from the presence of Israel, and David slays of Aram seven hundred charioteers, and forty thousand horsemen, and Shobach head of its host he has smitten, and he dies there.

¹⁷ and Abijah and his people smite among them a great smiting, and there fall wounded of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

²³ and the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbor, to destroy. ²⁴ And Judah has come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they [are] carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped, ²⁵ and Jehoshaphat comes in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it [is] abundant.

⁶ And Pekah son of Remaliah slays in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day (the whole [are] sons of valor), because of their forsaking Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers.

¹⁶ Yahweh is King for the eon and further. The nations will perish from His land.

³⁶ And faring forth is a messenger of Yahweh and smiting in the Assyrian camp a hundred and eighty five thousand. And the king is rising early in the morning--and behold! All of them are corpses--dead!

¹⁰ And Ben-Hadad sends unto him, and said, `Thus do the elohims to me, and thus do they add, if the dust of Samaria suffice for handfuls for all the people who [are] at my feet..

²⁰ and smite each his man, and Aram flees, and Israel pursues them, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram escapes on a horse, and the horsemen;"

²⁵ And Micaiah said, `Lo, you are seeing on that day, when you go in to the innermost chamber to be hidden..

²⁴ And Micaiah said, `Lo, you do see in that day, that you do enter into the innermost chamber to be hidden.. ²⁵ With the benign one You show Yourself benign, And with a flawless master You show Yourself flawless;"

¹⁸ And it comes that the one fleeing from the awful sound shall fall into the pit. And the ascender from the midst of the pit shall be seized in a snare. For the crevices of the heights are opened, and the foundations of the earth shall quake."

⁴⁴ Whoso is fleeing because of the fear falls into the snare, And whoso is coming up from the snare is captured by the gin, For I bring in unto her--unto Moab--The year of their inspection, An affirmation of Yahweh."

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, am lauding and exalting and honoring the King of the heavens, seeing that all His deeds are verity, and His paths are adjudication; and all walking in pride He can abase."

¹⁴ Yet fleeing shall perish from the fleet one, and the steadfast shall not make his vigor resolute, and the master shall not escape with his soul, ¹⁵ and the one handling the bow shall not stand, and the one fleet on his feet shall not escape, and the rider of the horse shall not escape with his soul,

¹⁹ just as a man is fleeing from the face of the lion, and the bear comes on him, and he enters the house and supports his hand on the sidewall, and the serpent bites him."

³ And if they are hiding in the summit of Carmel, thence will I search and take them. And if they are concealed from in front of My eyes on the floor of the sea, thence will I instruct the serpent, and it will bite them."

⁴ Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam falls and kills them, are you supposing that they came to be debtors beyond all the men dwelling in Jerusalem?

³⁴ And tearing is Jacob his garments, and is placing sackcloth on his waist, and is mourning over his son many days.

³¹ And David said unto Joab, and unto all the people who [are] with him, `Rend your garments, and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner;' and king David is going after the bier.

² and Joab sends to Tekoah, and takes thence a wise woman, and said unto her, `Feign yourself a mourner, I pray you, and put on, I pray you, garments of mourning, and anoint not yourself with oil, and you have been as a woman these many days mourning for the dead,

²³ And the servants of the king of Aram said unto him, `Elohims of hills [are] their elohims, therefore they were stronger than we; and yet, we fight with them in the plain--are we not stronger than they?

²⁷ And it comes to pass, at Ahab's hearing these words, that he rends his garments, and puts sackcloth on his flesh, and fasts, and lies in sackcloth, and goes gently. ²⁸ And the word of Yahweh is unto Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ²⁹ `Have you seen that Ahab has been humbled before Me? because that he has been humbled before Me, I bring not in the evil in his days; in the days of his son I bring in the evil on his house..

¹³ And his servants come nigh, and speak unto him, and say, `My father, a great thing had the prophet spoken unto you--do you not do [it]? and surely, when he has said unto you, Wash, and be clean..

⁴ if we have said, We go in to the city, then the famine [is] in the city, and we have died there; and if we have sat here, then we have died; and now, come and we fall unto the camp of Aram; if they keep us alive, we live, and if they put us to death--we have died..

¹ And it comes to pass, at king Hezekiah's hearing, that he rends his garments, and covers himself with sackcloth, and enters the house of Yahweh, ² and sends Eliakim, who [is] over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covering themselves with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz,

¹ When Mordecai got knowledge of everything that had been done, Mordecai tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes. Then he went forth into the midst of the city and cried out with a loud and bitter outcry, ² until he came before the king's gateway (for no one was to come into the king's gateway in clothing of sackcloth). ³ Also, in every place of the different provinces to which the king's order and his edict were attaining, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting and lamentation and wailing. Sackcloth and ashes became a berth for many.

¹⁶ Go, collect together all the Jews who are to be found in Susa, and fast on my behalf. Do not eat and do not drink for three days, night and day. I too with my maidens shall fast likewise. In this way I shall come in to the king, even though it is not according to the edict. And if I should perish, I shall perish.

⁴ Then Satan answered Yahweh and said, Skin in behalf of skin, for all that a man has would he give in behalf of his soul.

²⁸ Benignity and truth preserve the king, And by benignity his throne is braced."

⁵ And prepared by kindness is a throne, and seated on it in truth, in the tent of David, is a judge. And he inquires for judgment, and swift is justice."

¹² And my Lord, Yahweh of hosts, will call for lamentation in that day, and for wailing, and for baldness, and for girding on sackcloth;"

¹ And coming is it, as King Hezekiah hears it, that he is tearing his garments, and covering himself with sackcloth, and entering the house of Yahweh."

⁵ Then the men of Nineveh are believing in Elohim. And they are calling a fast and are putting on sackcloths, from their greatest unto their small." ⁶ And the word is touching the king of Nineveh. And he is rising from his throne and is transferring his fur robe from him, and he is covering himself with sackcloth and is sitting on ashes."

²⁸ And do not fear those who are killing the body, yet are not able to kill the soul. Yet be fearing Him, rather, Who is able to destroy the soul as well as the body in Gehenna."

⁷ in Whom we are having the deliverance through His blood, the forgiveness of offenses in accord with the riches of His grace, ⁸ which He lavishes on us; in all wisdom and prudence

³ And I will be endowing My two witnesses and they will be prophesying a thousand two hundred sixty days, clothed in sackcloth."

⁸ and he catches Agag king of Amalek alive, and all the people he has devoted by the mouth of the sword;" ⁹ and Saul has pity--also the people--on Agag, and on the best of the flock, and of the herd, and of the seconds, and on the lambs, and on all that [is] good, and have not been willing to devote them; and all the work, despised and wasted--it they devoted. ¹⁰ And the word of Yahweh is unto Samuel, saying, ¹¹ `I have repented that I caused Saul to reign for king, for he has turned back from after Me, and My words he has not performed;' and it is displeasing to Samuel, and he cries unto Yahweh all the night. <sup>12</sup> And Samuel rises early to meet Saul in the morning, and it is declared to Samuel, saying, `Saul has come in to Carmel, and lo, he is setting up to himself a monument, and goes round, and passes over, and goes down to Gilgal.. ¹³ And Samuel comes in unto Saul, and Saul said to him, `Blessed [are] you of Yahweh; I have performed the word of Yahweh.. <sup>14</sup> And Samuel said, `And what [is] the noise of this flock in mine ears--and the noise of the herd which I am hearing?. ¹⁵ And Saul said, `From Amalek they have brought them, because the people had pity on the best of the flock, and of the herd, in order to sacrifice to Yahweh your Elohim, and the remnant we have devoted.. <sup>16</sup> And Samuel said unto Saul, `Desist, and I declare to you that which Yahweh has spoken unto me to-night;' and he said to him, `Speak.. <sup>17</sup> And Samuel said, `Are not you, if you [are] little in your own eyes, head of the tribes of Israel? and Yahweh does anoint you for king over Israel, ¹⁸ and Yahweh sends you in the way, and said, Go, and you have devoted the sinners, the Amalekite, and fought against them till they are consumed;" ¹⁹ and why have you not hearkened to the voice of Yahweh--and do fly unto the spoil, and do do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh?. ²⁰ And Saul said unto Samuel, `Because--I have hearkened to the voice of Yahweh, and I go in the way which Yahweh has sent me, and bring in Agag king of Amalek, and Amalek I have devoted;"

³ and said to him, `Thus said Ben-Hadad, `Your silver and your gold are mine, and your wives and your sons--the best--are mine.. ⁴ And the king of Israel answers and said, `According to your word, my lord, O king:I [am] your, and all that I have.. <sup>5</sup> And the messengers turn back and say, `Thus spoke Ben-Hadad, saying, Surely I sent unto you, saying, Your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your sons, to me you do give;" ⁶ for if, at this time to-morrow, I send my servants unto you then they have searched your house, and the houses of your servants, and it has been, every desirable thing of your eyes they place in their hand, and have taken away..

³¹ And his servants say unto him, `Lo, we pray you, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel--that they are kind kings; let us put, we pray you, sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and we go out unto the king of Israel; it may be he does keep you alive..

⁴² and he said unto him, `Thus said Yahweh, Because you have sent away the man I devoted, out of [your] hand, even your life has been for his life, and your people for his people;.

¹⁷ Causing counselors to go forth looted, He also makes judges rave as fools. ¹⁸ He unlooses the disciplining authority of kings, And He binds a belt about their waists.

¹¹ Scatter forth the ragings of your anger; Discern every proud one and abase him. ¹² Discern every proud one and make him submit; Crush the wicked where they are.

¹¹ The eyes of the haughty human are low, and prostrate is the highness of mortals, and Yahweh alone is impregnable in that day." ¹² For a day for Yahweh of hosts is on everyone proud and high, and on everyone lifted up, and abased is he."

¹² Yet it comes, when Yahweh will clip off all His doings in mount Zion and in Jerusalem, I will visit evil on the fruit of the insolent heart of the king of Assyria, and the high beauty of his eyes."

²⁰ Yet when his heart was exalted and his spirit was mightily arrogant, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom and they caused his esteem to pass away from him:" ²¹ From the sons of mortals was he shoved, his heart was made equal to an animal's and with the wild donkeys was his abode. Herbage are they feeding to him, as oxen, and by the night mist of the heavens was his frame streaked, till he knew that the Supreme Eloah is in authority in the kingdom of mortals, and whom He is willing is He setting up over it." ²² Yet you, his grandson Belshazzar, you abase not your heart in Eloah's sight, forasmuch as all this you know." ²³ Over the Lord, the Eloah of the heavens, you exalt yourself; the vessels of His house they bring hither before you; you and your grandees, your consorts and your concubines are drinking turbid wine from them. Also elohim of silver, gold, copper, iron, wood, and stone who are not perceiving and not hearing and not knowing, these you laud, yet the Eloah in Whose hand is your breath, and for Whom are all your paths, Him you do not honor."

³ The arrogance of your heart lures you, O tabernacler in the holes of the crag. A height is his dwelling; he is saying in his heart, Who will bring me down to earth? ⁴ If you are elevated as the vulture, and if your nest is placed between the stars, thence will I bring you down (averring is Yahweh)."

¹⁵ And he goes thence, and finds Jehonadab son of Rechab--to meet him, and blesses him, and said unto him, `Is your heart right, as my heart [is] with your heart?' and Jehonadab said, `It is;' --`Then it is; give your hand;' and he gives his hand, and he causes him to come up into him into the chariot,

¹³ Like the chill of snow in the day of harvest Is a faithful agent to those who send him; He restores the soul of his lords.

⁸ And the lord applauds the unjust administrator, for he does prudently, for the sons of this eon are more prudent, above the sons of light in their own generation."

³¹ Yet he said, "For how should I be able, if ever someone should not be guiding me?Besides, he entreats Philip, stepping up, to be seated with him."

⁴ And Ben-Hadad hearkens unto king Asa, and sends the heads of the forces that he has unto cities of Israel, and they smite Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-Maim, and all the stores, cities of Naphtali.

³⁰ And the king of Aram has commanded the heads of the charioteers whom he has, saying, `You do not fight with small or with great, except with the king of Israel by himself..

¹² You shall not say what is obstinate, for all that this people are saying is obstinacy. And you shall not fear their fear nor be terrified."

¹⁰ If grace is shown to the wicked, he will fail to learn righteousness, in a land of correctness, he will commit iniquity, and will fail to see the pride of Yahweh."

¹² And a man thence answers and said, `And who [is] their father?' therefore it has been for a simile, `Is Saul also among the prophets?.

¹ And lo, a man of Elohim has come from Judah, by the word of Yahweh, unto Beth-El, and Jeroboam is standing by the altar--to make perfume;" ² and he calls against the altar, by the word of Yahweh, and said, `Altar! altar! thus said Yahweh, Lo, a son is born to the house of David--Josiah his name--and he has sacrificed on you the priests of the high places who are making perfume on you, and bones of man are burnt on you..

¹⁷ for a word [is] unto me by the word of Yahweh, You do not eat bread nor drink there water, you do not turn back to go in the way in which you came.. ¹⁸ And he said to him, `I also [am] a prophet like you, and a messenger spoke unto me by the word of Yahweh, saying, Bring him back with you unto your house, and he does eat bread and drink water;' --he has lied to him.

³⁷ And he finds another man, and said, `Smite me, I pray you;' and the man smites him, smiting and wounding, ³⁸ and the prophet goes and stands for the king on the way, and disguises himself with ashes on his eyes.

³ And sons of the prophets who [are] in Beth-El come out unto Elisha, and say unto him, `Have you known that to-day Yahweh is taking your lord from your head?' and he said, `I also have known--keep silent.. ⁴ And Elijah said to him, `Elisha, abide, I pray you, here, for Yahweh has sent me to Jericho;' and he said, `Yahweh lives, and your soul lives, if I leave you;' and they come in to Jericho. ⁵ And sons of the prophets who [are] in Jericho come nigh unto Elisha, and say unto him, `Have you known that to-day Yahweh is taking your lord from your head?' and he said, `I also have known--keep silent.. ⁶ And Elijah said to him, `Abide, I pray you, here, for Yahweh has sent me to the Jordan;' and he said, `Yahweh lives, and your soul lives, if I leave you;' and they go on both of them, ⁷ --and fifty men of the sons of the prophets have gone on, and stand over-against afar off--and both of them have stood by the Jordan.

¹⁵ And they see him--the sons of the prophets who [are] in Jericho--over-against, and they say, `Rested has the spirit of Elijah on Elisha;' and they come to meet him, and bow themselves to him to the earth,

¹ And a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets has cried unto Elisha, saying, `Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you have known that your servant was fearing Yahweh, and the lender has come to take my two children to him for servants..

³⁸ And Elisha has turned back to Gilgal, and the famine [is] in the land, and the sons of the prophets are sitting before him, and he said to his young man, `Set on the great pot, and boil pottage for the sons of the prophets..

¹⁸ Behold! I and the boys whom Yahweh Elohim gives to me, are for signs and for miracles in the house of Israel, from Yahweh of hosts, the Tabernacler in mount Zion."

² In that era Yahweh speaks by the hand of Isaiah, son of Amoz, saying, "Go and unloose the sackcloth off your waist, and your sandals shall you pull off your feet.And he is doing so, to go naked and barefoot." ³ And saying is Yahweh, "As My servant Isaiah goes naked and barefoot, a three year sign and miracle representing Egypt and Ethiopia,

² `Thus said Yahweh unto me, Make to you bands and yokes, ³ And you have put them on your neck, and have sent them unto the king of Edom, and unto the king of Moab, and unto the king of the sons of Ammon, and unto the king of Tyre, and unto the king of Zidon, by the hand of messengers who are coming in to Jerusalem, unto Zedekiah king of Judah;"

³ And you, take to you an iron pan, and you have made it a wall of iron between you and the city; and you have prepared your face against it, and it has been in a siege, yea, you have laid siege against it. A sign it [is] to the house of Israel."

¹⁴ Yet Amos is answering and saying to Amaziah, I am not a prophet, nor am I a son of a prophet. For I am a herder and a puncturer of sycamore figs."

²⁴ Then Jesus said to His disciples: "If anyone is wanting to come after Me, let him renounce himself and pick up his cross and follow Me."

²² And Samuel said, `Has Yahweh had delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices as [in] hearkening to the voice of Yahweh? lo, hearkening than sacrifice is better; to give attention than fat of rams;" ²³ for a sin of divination [is] rebellion, and iniquity and teraphim [is] stubbornness; because you have rejected the word of Yahweh, He also does reject you from [being] king..

²¹ and he calls unto the man of Elohim who came from Judah, saying, `Thus said Yahweh, Because that you have provoked the mouth of Yahweh, and have not kept the command that Yahweh your Elohim charged you, ²² and turn back and do eat bread and drink water in the place of which He said unto you, You do not eat bread nor drink water--your carcase comes not in unto the burying-place of your fathers.. ²³ And it comes to pass, after his eating bread, and after his drinking, that he saddles for him the ass, for the prophet whom he had brought back, ²⁴ and he goes, and a lion finds him in the way, and puts him to death, and his carcase is cast in the way, and the ass is standing near it, and the lion is standing near the carcase.

²⁶ And the prophet who brought him back out of the way hears and said, `It [is] the man of Elohim who provoked the mouth of Yahweh, and Yahweh gives him to the lion, and it destroys him, and puts him to death, according to the word of Yahweh that he spoke to him..

¹² The smiter of a man that dies shall be put to death, yea death.

³⁵ And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbor by the word of Yahweh, `Smite me, I pray you;' and the man refuses to smite him,

² and Jeroboam said to his wife, `Rise, I pray you, and change yourself, and they know not that you [are] wife of Jeroboam, and you have gone to Shiloh; lo, there [is] Ahijah the prophet; he spoke unto me of [being] king over this people;"

³⁰ And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat to disguise himself, and to go into battle, `And you, put on your garments.' And the king of Israel disguises himself, and goes into battle.

¹⁶ Now whenever you may be fasting, become not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance, for they disguise their faces so that they may appear to men to be fasting. Verily, I am saying to you: They are collecting their wages."

³⁰ If a sheltering ransom is imposed on him then he will give as a ransom for his soul according to all which is set on him.

⁷ and they declare [it] to Jotham, and he goes and stands on the top of mount Gerizim, and lifts up his voice, and calls, and said to them, `Hearken unto me, O masters of Shechem, and Elohim does hearken unto you. <sup>8</sup> `The trees have diligently gone to anoint over them a king, and they say to the olive, Reign you over us. ⁹ And the olive said to them, Have I ceased from my fatness, by which they honor elohims and men, that I have gone to stagger over the trees? ¹⁰ And the trees say to the fig, Come you, reign over us. ¹¹ And the fig said to them, Have I ceased from my sweetness, and my good increase, that I have gone to stagger over the trees? ¹² `And the trees say to the vine, Come you, reign over us. <sup>13</sup> And the vine said to them, Have I ceased from my new wine, which is rejoicing elohims and men, that I have gone to stagger over the trees? <sup>14</sup> And all the trees say unto the bramble, Come you, reign over us. <sup>15</sup> And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth you are anointing me for king over you, come, take refuge in my shadow; and if not--fire comes out from the bramble, and devours the cedars of Lebanon. <sup>16</sup> `And, now, if in truth and in sincerity you have acted, when you make Abimelech king; and if you have done good with Jerubbaal, and with his house; and if according to the deed of his hands you have done to him-. ¹⁷ because my father has fought for you, and does cast away his life from [him], and deliver you from the hand of Midian;" ¹⁸ and you have risen against the house of my father to-day, and slay his sons, seventy men, on one stone, and cause Abimelech son of his handmaid to reign over the masters of Shechem, because he [is] your brother-. ¹⁹ yea, if in truth and in sincerity you have acted with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, rejoice you in Abimelech, and he does rejoice--even he--in you;" ²⁰ and if not--fire comes out from Abimelech and devours the masters of Shechem and the house of Millo, and fire comes out from the masters of Shechem and from the house of Millo, and devours Abimelech..

¹ And Yahweh sends Nathan unto David, and he comes unto him, and said to him:`Two men have been in one city; One rich and one poor;" <sup>2</sup> The rich has flocks and herds very many; <sup>3</sup> And the poor one has nothing, Except one little ewe-lamb, Which he has bought, and keeps alive, And it grows up with him, And with his sons together; Of his morsel it eats, And from his cup it drinks, And in his bosom it lies, And it is to him as a daughter;" <sup>4</sup> And there comes a traveller to the rich man, And he spares to take Of his own flock, and of his own herd, To prepare for the traveller Who has come to him, And he takes the ewe-lamb of the poor man, And prepares it for the man Who has come unto him.. <sup>5</sup> And the anger of David burns against the man exceedingly, and he said unto Nathan, `Yahweh lives, surely a son of death [is] the man who is doing this, ⁶ and the ewe-lamb he does repay fourfold, because that he has done this thing, and because that he had no pity.. ⁷ And Nathan said unto David, `You [are] the man! Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, I anointed you for king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul;"

⁵ And the king said to her, `What--to you?' and she said, `Truly a widow woman [am] I, and my husband dies, ⁶ and your maid-servant has two sons; and they strive both of them in a field, and there is no deliverer between them, and the one smites the other, and puts him to death;" ⁷ and lo, the whole family has risen against your maid-servant, and say, Give up him who smites his brother, and we put him to death for the life of his brother whom he has slain, and we destroy also the heir; and they have quenched my coal which is left--so as not to set to my husband a name and remnant on the face of the ground..

²⁴ And they come in to make sacrifices and burnt-offerings, and Jehu has set for himself in an out-place eighty men, and said, `The man who lets escape [any] of the men whom I am bringing in unto your hand--his soul for his soul..

¹⁸ But beware lest one should allure you with affluence; Let not the vastness of the sheltering gift turn you aside.

⁷ Surely it shall not ransom, yea ransom a man; Neither shall one pay to Elohim his sheltering ransom,

³⁵ He shall not respect any sheltering gift And shall not be willing to relent though you increase the bribe.

⁸ His riches can be a ransoming shelter for a man's soul, While one who is destitute need not hearken to blackmail."

¹ And He begins to speak to them in parables: "A vineyard a man is planting, and he places about it a stone dike, and excavates a vat, and builds a tower, and leased it to farmers, and travels." ² And he dispatches to the farmers, at the season, a slave, that from the farmers he may be getting from the fruits of the vineyard." ³ And taking him, they lash him and dispatch him empty." ⁴ And again he dispatches to them another slave, and that one, pelting with stones, they hit his head and dispatch him in dishonor." ⁵ And again another he dispatches, and that one they kill, and many others, lashing these, indeed, yet killing those." ⁶ Still one had he, a son, his beloved. He dispatches him also, last, to them, saying that 'They will be respecting my son.'" ⁷ Yet those farmers say to themselves that 'This is the enjoyer of the allotment. Hither! We should be killing him, and the enjoyment of the allotment will be ours!'" ⁸ And, taking him, they kill him and cast him outside of the vineyard." ⁹ What, then, will the lord of the vineyard be doing? He will be coming and destroying the farmers and will be giving the vineyard to others." ¹⁰ Did you not yet read this scripture? - 'The stone which is rejected by the builders, This came to be for the head of the corner." ¹¹ From the Lord came this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.'" ¹² And they sought to hold Him, and they were afraid of the throng, for they know that He spoke the parable to them. And, leaving Him, they came away."

¹⁸ being aware that not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, were you ransomed from your vain behavior, handed down by tradition from the fathers, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a flawless and unspotted lamb,

⁶ Your own mouth condemns you, not I, And your lips answer against you.

⁴¹ They are saying to Him, "Evil men! Evilly will he be destroying them, and the vineyard will he be leasing to other farmers, who will be rendering the fruits to him in their seasons." ⁴² Jesus is saying to them, "Did you never read in the scriptures, 'The stone which is rejected by the builders, This came to be for the head of the corner. From the Lord came this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? ⁴³ Therefore am I saying to you that the kingdom of God shall be taken away from you and shall be given to a nation producing its fruits.

²⁴ Now, approaching, the one also having gotten the one talent, said, 'Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you do not sow, and gathering whence you do not scatter." ²⁵ And, being afraid, coming away, I hide your talent in the earth. Lo! you have what is yours!'" ²⁶ Now, answering, his lord said to him, 'Wicked and slothful slave! You were aware that I am reaping where I do not sow, and gathering whence I do not scatter." ²⁷ It was binding on you, then, to be depositing my silver with the bankers, and on coming, I should recover what is mine together with interest."

²² Now he is saying to him, 'Out of your mouth will I judge you, wicked slave! You were aware that I am a harsh man, picking up what I do not lay down and reaping what I do not sow."

¹⁹ And Tamar takes ashes for her head, and the long coat that [is] on her she has rent, and puts her hand on her head, and goes, going on and crying;"

⁸ So he took for himself a potsherd to scrape himself with it as he was sitting in the midst of ashes.

²⁶ O daughter of My people, Gird on sackcloth, and roll yourself in ashes, The mourning of an only one make for you, A lamentation most bitter, For suddenly come does the spoiler against us."

⁹ and Saul has pity--also the people--on Agag, and on the best of the flock, and of the herd, and of the seconds, and on the lambs, and on all that [is] good, and have not been willing to devote them; and all the work, despised and wasted--it they devoted. ¹⁰ And the word of Yahweh is unto Samuel, saying, ¹¹ `I have repented that I caused Saul to reign for king, for he has turned back from after Me, and My words he has not performed;' and it is displeasing to Samuel, and he cries unto Yahweh all the night.

³⁴ And he said unto him, `The cities that my father took from your father, I give back, and streets you do make for you in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria;' --`and I, with a covenant, send you away;' and he makes with him a covenant, and sends him away.

³⁹ And it comes to pass--the king is passing by--that he has cried unto the king, and said, `Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and lo, a man has turned aside and brings in unto me a man, and said, Keep this man; if he be at all missing, then has your life been for his life, or a talent of silver you do weigh out;"

³¹ And the king of Aram commanded the heads of the charioteers whom he has--thirty and two--saying, `You do not fight with small or with great, but with the king of Israel by himself.. <sup>32</sup> And it comes to pass, at the heads of the charioteers seeing Jehoshaphat, that they said, `He [is] only the king of Israel;' and they turn aside to him to fight, and Jehoshaphat cries out, ³³ and it comes to pass, at the heads of the charioteers seeing that he [is] not the king of Israel, that they turn back from after him. ³⁴ And a man has drawn with a bow, in his simplicity, and smites the king of Israel between the joinings and the coat of mail, and he said to his charioteer, `Turn your hand, and take me out from the camp, for I have become sick.. <sup>35</sup> And the battle increases on that day, and the king has been caused to stand in the chariot, over-against Aram, and he dies in the evening, and the blood of the wound runs out unto the midst of the chariot, <sup>36</sup> and he causes the cry to pass over through the camp, at the going in of the sun, saying, `Each unto his city, and each unto his land.. ³⁷ And the king dies, and comes into Samaria, and they bury the king in Samaria;"

²⁴ And it comes to pass afterwards, that Ben-Hadad king of Aram gathers all his camp, and goes up, and lays siege to Samaria,

¹² And Hazael said, `Wherefore is my lord weeping?' and he said, `Because I have known the evil that you do to the sons of Israel--their fenced places you do send into fire, and their young men with sword you do slay, and their sucklings you do dash to pieces, and their pregnant women you do rip up..

³³ And a man has drawn with a bow, in his simplicity, and smites the king of Israel between the joinings and the coat of mail, and he said to the charioteer, `Turn your hand, and you have brought me out of the camp, for I have become sick.. ³⁴ And the battle increases on that day, and the king of Israel has been stayed up in the chariot over-against Aram till the evening, and he dies at the time of the going in of the sun.

⁴ and Ahab comes in unto his house, sulky and wroth, because of the word that Naboth the Jezreelite has spoken unto him when he said, `I do not give to you the inheritance of my fathers,' and he lies down on his bed, and turns round his face, and has not eaten bread.

¹³ But all of this, it is no compensation for me every time I see Mordecai the Jew sitting in the king's gateway.

¹² Then Mordecai returned to the king's gateway. As for Haman, he went posthaste to his house, mournful with hooded head. ¹³ Haman related to his wife Zeresh and to all his male friends everything that had just happened to him. His advisers and his wife Zeresh said to him:Since Mordecai, before whom you have started to fall, is from the seed of the Jews, you shall not prevail against him; indeed, you shall fall, yea fall before him.

² Indeed vexation shall kill the foolish man, And jealousy shall put the simple one to death.

³ A man's folly subverts his way, And his heart is irate against Yahweh."
