¹ A son of twenty and five years has Amaziah reigned, and twenty and nine years he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Jehoaddan of Jerusalem, ² and he does that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh--only, not with a perfect heart. ³ And it comes to pass, when the kingdom has been strong upon him, that he slays his servants, those smiting the king his father, ⁴ and their sons he has not put to death, but [did] as is written in the law, in the book of Moses, whom Yahweh commanded, saying, `Fathers do not die for sons, and sons die not for fathers, but each for his own sin they die.. <sup>5</sup> And Amaziah gathers Judah, and appoints them, according to the house of the fathers, for heads of the thousands, and for heads of the hundreds, for all Judah and Benjamin; and he inspects them from a son of twenty years and upward, and finds them three hundred thousand chosen ones, going forth to the host, holding spear and target. <sup>6</sup> And he hires out of Israel a hundred thousand mighty ones of valor, with a hundred talents of silver;" <sup>7</sup> and a man of Elohim has come in unto him, saying, `O king, the host of Israel does not go with you; for Yahweh is not with Israel--all the sons of Ephraim;" ⁸ but if you are going--do [it], be strong for battle, Elohim does cause you to stumble before an enemy, for there is power in Elohim to help, and to cause to stumble.. ⁹ And Amaziah said to the man of Elohim, `And what--to do for the hundred talents that I have given to the troop of Israel?' And the man of Elohim said, `Yahweh has more to give to you than this.. ¹⁰ And Amaziah separates them--for the troop that has come in unto him from Ephraim to go to their own place, and their anger does burn mightily against Judah, and they turn back to their place in the heat of anger. ¹¹ And Amaziah has strengthened himself, and leads his people, and goes to the Valley of Salt, and smites the sons of Seir--ten thousand. ¹² And ten thousand alive have the sons of Judah taken captive, and they bring them to the top of the rock, and cast them from the top of the rock, and all of them have been broken. ¹³ And the sons of the troop that Amaziah has sent back from going with him to battle--they rush against cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-Horon, and smite of them three thousand, and seize much prey. ¹⁴ And it comes to pass, after the coming in of Amaziah from smiting the Edomites, that he brings in the elohims of the sons of Seir, and establishes them to him for elohims, and before them does bow himself, and to them he makes perfume. ¹⁵ And the anger of Yahweh burns against Amaziah, and He sends unto him a prophet, and he said unto him, `Why have you sought the elohims of the people that have not delivered their people out of your hand?. <sup>16</sup> And it comes to pass, in his speaking unto him, that he said to him, `For a counsellor to the king have we appointed you? cease for you; why do they smite you?' And the prophet ceases, and said, `I have known that Elohim has counselled to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not hearkened to my counsel.. <sup>17</sup> And Amaziah king of Judah takes counsel, and sends unto Joash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, <sup>18</sup> `Come, we look one another in the face.' And Joash king of Israel sends unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that [is] in Lebanon has sent unto the cedar that [is] in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by does a beast of the field that [is] in Lebanon, and treads down the thorn. ¹⁹ You have said, Lo, I have smitten Edom; and your heart has lifted you up to boast; now, abide in your house, why do you stir yourself up in evil, that you have fallen, you, and Judah with you?. ²⁰ And Amaziah has not hearkened, for from Elohim it [is] in order to give them into hand, because they have sought the elohims of Edom;" ²¹ and go up does Joash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that [is] Judah's, ²² and Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee--each to his tents. ²³ And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, has Joash king of Israel caught in Beth-Shemesh, and brings him in to Jerusalem, and breaks down in the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits, ²⁴ and [takes] all the gold, and the silver, and all the vessels that are found in the house of Elohim with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges, and turns back to Samaria. ²⁵ And Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lives after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, fifteen years;" ²⁶ and the rest of the matters of Amaziah, the first and the last, lo, are they not written on the books of the kings of Judah and Israel? ²⁷ And from the time that Amaziah has turned aside from after Yahweh--they make a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he flees to Lachish, and they send after him to Lachish, and put him to death there, ²⁸ and lift him up on the horses, and bury him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

⁵ Yea, and your blood for your souls I will require. From the hand of every living animal will I require it, and from the hand of humanity. From the hand of a man's brother I will require the soul of a human. ⁶ The shedder of the blood of a human, by a human his blood shall be shed, for in the image of the Elohim has He made humanity.

¹⁶ Howbeit, for this sake I keep you standing, in order to make you see My vigor, and that My name may be related in the entire earth.

²⁵ Moses chose men of ability from all Israel and set them as heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, chiefs of hundreds, chiefs of fifties and chiefs of tens.

³ You shall not come to have other elohim in preference to Me. ⁴ You shall not make for yourself a carving nor any representation of that in the heavens above or that on the earth beneath, or that in the waters beneath the earth. ⁵ You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor be made to serve them, for I, Yahweh your Elohim, am a jealous El, visiting the depravity of the fathers on the sons, on the third and on the fourth generation, to those hating Me,

³⁰ Yet Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass through it, for Yahweh your Elohim made his spirit obstinate and made his heart resolute, that He might give him into your hand (as is known this day).

⁵ But rather, thus shall you do to them:you shall tear down their altars, break their monuments, hack down their Asherah poles, and you shall burn their carvings with fire.

¹⁷ and they come up into Judah, and rend it, and take captive all the substance that is found at the house of the king, and also his sons, and his wives, and there has not been left to him a son except Jehoahaz the youngest of his sons.

¹ And the inhabitants of Jerusalem cause Ahaziah his youngest son to reign in his stead, (for all the elder had the troop slain that came in with the Arabians to the camp,) and Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah reigns.

⁶ and he turns back to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds with which they had smitten him in Ramah, in his fighting with Hazael king of Aram. And Azariah son of Jehoram king of Judah has gone down to see Jehoram son of Ahab, in Jezreel, for he [is] sick;" ⁷ and from Elohim has been the destruction of Ahaziah, to come unto Joram:and in his coming he has gone out with Jehoram unto Jehu son of Nimshi, whom Yahweh anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

² And Joash does that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

²⁰ and the Spirit of Elohim has clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stands over-against the people, and said to them, `Thus said Elohim, Why are you transgressing the commands of Yahweh, and prosper not? because you have forsaken Yahweh--He does forsake you.. ²¹ And they conspire against him, and stone him with stones by the command of the king, in the court of the house of Yahweh,

⁷ and a man of Elohim has come in unto him, saying, `O king, the host of Israel does not go with you; for Yahweh is not with Israel--all the sons of Ephraim;"

¹¹ And Amaziah has strengthened himself, and leads his people, and goes to the Valley of Salt, and smites the sons of Seir--ten thousand. ¹² And ten thousand alive have the sons of Judah taken captive, and they bring them to the top of the rock, and cast them from the top of the rock, and all of them have been broken. ¹³ And the sons of the troop that Amaziah has sent back from going with him to battle--they rush against cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-Horon, and smite of them three thousand, and seize much prey. ¹⁴ And it comes to pass, after the coming in of Amaziah from smiting the Edomites, that he brings in the elohims of the sons of Seir, and establishes them to him for elohims, and before them does bow himself, and to them he makes perfume.

¹⁶ And it comes to pass, in his speaking unto him, that he said to him, `For a counsellor to the king have we appointed you? cease for you; why do they smite you?' And the prophet ceases, and said, `I have known that Elohim has counselled to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not hearkened to my counsel..

⁴ And he does that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that Amaziah his father did,

⁹ And Uzziah builds towers in Jerusalem, by the gate of the corner, and by the gate of the valley, and by the angle, and strengthens them;"

¹³ and by their hand [is] the force of the host, three hundred thousand, and seven thousand, and five hundred warriors, with mighty power to give help to the king against the enemy.

¹⁶ And at his being strong his heart has been high unto destruction, and he trespasses against Yahweh his Elohim, and goes in unto the temple of Yahweh to make perfume upon the altar of perfume.

⁵ And Yahweh his Elohim gives him into the hand of the king of Aram, and they smite him, and take captive from him a great captivity, and bring [them] in to Damascus, and also into the hand of the king of Israel he has been given, and he smites him--a great smiting. ⁶ And Pekah son of Remaliah slays in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day (the whole [are] sons of valor), because of their forsaking Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers.

²³ and he sacrifices to the elohims of Damascus--those smiting him, and said, `Because the elohims of the kings of Aram are helping them, to them I sacrifice, and they help me,' and they have been to him to cause him to stumble, and to all Israel.

²⁵ and Hezekiah has not returned according to the deed [done] unto him, for his heart has been lofty, and there is wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem;"

¹¹ and Yahweh brings in against them the heads of the host that the king of Asshur has, and they capture Manasseh among the thickets, and bind him with brazen fetters, and cause him to go to Babylon.

²¹ and he sends unto him messengers, saying, `What--to me and to you, O king of Judah? not against you do I come to-day, but unto the house with which I have war, and Elohim said to haste me; cease for you from Elohim who [is] with me, and He does not destroy you..

⁶ against him has Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon come up, and binds him in brazen fetters to take him away to Babylon.

¹⁰ and at the turn of the year has king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brings him in to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Yahweh, and causes Zedekiah his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁶ And the people go out, and bring in, and make for themselves booths, each on his roof, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of Elohim, and in the broad place of the water-gate, and in the broad place of the gate of Ephraim.

³⁹ and from beyond the gate of Ephraim, and by the old-gate, and by the fish-gate, and the tower of Hananeel, and the tower of Meah, and unto the sheep-gate--and they have stood at the prison-gate.

¹⁸ For He Himself causes pain, and He shall bind up; He stabs, and His hands, they shall heal.

¹³ Eloah, He does not reverse His anger; The helpers of Rahab prostrate before Him.

⁷ These boast in chariots, and those in horses, But as for us, concerning the Name of Yahweh our Elohim, we are ever mindful."

¹¹ Once Elohim has spoken; Two times have I heard this:That strength belongs to Elohim,

³⁷ Their heart, it was not established before Him, And they were not faithful to His covenant."

¹³ The boar from the wildwood gorges on it, And the field mammal, it grazes upon it."

¹¹ Yet My people would not hearken to My voice, And Israel would not comply with Me." ¹² So I let them go in the obduracy of their own heart; They went in their own counsels.

⁵ For all the elohim of the peoples are useless idols, As for Yahweh, He has made the heavens."

⁴ Their fetishes are silver and gold, The work of human hands;" ⁵ They have a mouth, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see;" ⁶ They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have a nose, but they cannot smell;" ⁷ Their hands, they cannot feel with them; Their feet, they cannot walk with them; They cannot even mumble in their throat." ⁸ Like them, may their makers become, All who are trusting in them."

⁷ He who admonishes a mocker is procuring dishonor to himself, And he who reproves a wicked man gets himself a blemish." ⁸ Do not reprove a mocker lest he should hate you; Reprove a wise man, and he shall love you."

²² The blessing of Yahweh, it enriches, And He shall not add grief to it."

¹⁰ Surely arrogance produces strife, Yet wisdom is found with those taking counsel."

¹⁸ Pride goes before a breaking, And a haughty spirit before a stumbling."

⁶ The lips of a stupid man bring him into contention, And his mouth calls for beatings."

³ It is glory to a man to cease from contention, Yet every fool rails on."

¹⁷ One who holds a cur fast by its ears Is the passer by who trespasses upon a contention not belonging to him.

²⁵ A pretentious soul stirs up a quarrel, Yet he who trusts in Yahweh shall be conferred with richness."

⁹ Rejoice, choice youth, in your childhood, And let your heart be well in the days of your prime; Walk in the ways of your heart and by the sight of your eyes, Yet know that for all these the One, Elohim, shall bring you into judgment."

⁹ Know, you peoples, and be dismayed! And give ear, all you far from the land! Belt yourselves and be dismayed! Belt yourselves and be dismayed!" ¹⁰ Counsel with counsel, yet it shall be annulled! Speak the word, yet it shall not be confirmed! For with us is El!"

¹ Woe! Proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim! And decaying blossom of its stately beauty, which is at the head of the fertile ravine, drunkards for whom there is no wine!" ² Behold! The anger of Yahweh is steadfast and resolute as a hail storm, a stinging horror, as a storm of waters, abundant, overflowing. And He drags it to the earth by His hand." ³ With their feet will they tramp the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim,

¹³ And saying is Yahweh, "Forasmuch as close to Me is this people with their mouth, and with their lips they glorify Me, yet their heart is far from Me, and their fear of Me is becoming as the instruction of mortals' teaching."

¹⁰ who say to the seers, "You shall not direct us!And to the vision seers, "You shall not perceive correctives for us! Speak to us slick things, perceive trifles." ¹¹ Withdraw from the way, turn aside from the path. Eradicate from our face the Holy One of Israel."

⁹ Formers of carvings, all of them are a chaos. And makers of their coveted idols shall fail to benefit. And their witnesses they will fail to see and fail to know, that they may be ashamed, ¹⁰ Who form an el, and cast a carving which fails to benefit."

¹⁹ And he is not recalling to his heart, and no knowledge is there, nor understanding to say, "Half of it I burned up in the fire, and, indeed, I baked on its embers bread, roasting flesh and eating. And the rest of it I am making into an abhorrence. To a decaying tree am I falling on my knees and face!"

¹ Bows Bel! Stoops Nebo! Their grief fetishes have come to be for the animal, and for the beast are your carriers laden. Their announcings are a load for the faint." ² They stoop. They bow together, and cannot escape the load, and their soul goes into captivity."

¹⁰ Telling from the beginning, the hereafter, and from aforetime, what has not yet been done. Saying, `All My counsel shall be confirmed, and all My desire will I do.'"

⁵ Thus said Yahweh:What--have your fathers found in Me perversity, That they have gone far off from Me, And go after the vanity, and become vain,

²³ Thus said Yahweh:Let not the wise boast himself in his wisdom, Nor let the mighty boast himself in his might, Let not the rich boast himself in his riches,

⁷ Who does not fear You, king of the nations? For to You it is becoming, For among all the wise of the nations, And in all their kingdom there is none like You."

²⁶ Yahweh has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, for there being inspectors of the house of Yahweh, for every one mad and making himself a prophet, and you have put him unto the torture and unto the stocks."

²⁹ In those days they do not say any more:Fathers have eaten unripe fruit, And the sons' teeth are blunted." ³⁰ But--each for his own iniquity does die, Every man who is eating the unripe fruit, Blunted are his teeth."

³⁸ Lo, days [are coming], an affirmation of Yahweh, And the city has been built to Yahweh, From the tower of Hananeel to the gate of the corner."

⁴ Lo, all the souls are Mine, As the soul of the father, So also the soul of the son--they are Mine, The soul that is sinning--it does die."

²⁰ The soul that does sin--it does die. A son does not bear of the iniquity of the father, And a father does not bear of the iniquity of the son, The righteousness of the righteous is on him, And the wickedness of the wicked is on him."

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, am lauding and exalting and honoring the King of the heavens, seeing that all His deeds are verity, and His paths are adjudication; and all walking in pride He can abase."

²⁰ Yet when his heart was exalted and his spirit was mightily arrogant, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom and they caused his esteem to pass away from him:" ²¹ From the sons of mortals was he shoved, his heart was made equal to an animal's and with the wild donkeys was his abode. Herbage are they feeding to him, as oxen, and by the night mist of the heavens was his frame streaked, till he knew that the Supreme Eloah is in authority in the kingdom of mortals, and whom He is willing is He setting up over it." ²² Yet you, his grandson Belshazzar, you abase not your heart in Eloah's sight, forasmuch as all this you know." ²³ Over the Lord, the Eloah of the heavens, you exalt yourself; the vessels of His house they bring hither before you; you and your grandees, your consorts and your concubines are drinking turbid wine from them. Also elohim of silver, gold, copper, iron, wood, and stone who are not perceiving and not hearing and not knowing, these you laud, yet the Eloah in Whose hand is your breath, and for Whom are all your paths, Him you do not honor."

¹³ And Ephraim is seeing his illness, and Judah his malady; and Ephraim is going to Assyria, and he is sending messengers to king Jareb, yet he will not be able to heal you, nor will he cure you of your malady;" ¹⁴ for I will be as a black lion to Ephraim, and as a sheltered lion to the house of Judah. I, I, will tear to pieces and go and carry off, and there is no rescuing." ¹⁵ For I will go and return to My place till they are pleading guilty, and they seek My face. In their distress they will seek Me early, saying:"

¹³ Ephraim, just as I see as to Tyre, is transplanted into a homestead, yet Ephraim shall bring forth his sons to the killer."

² To these they apportion their heart; now they shall be guilty. He shall denude their altars; He shall devastate their monuments.

⁹ Proclaim this among the nations! Hallow a war! Rouse the masters! All the mortals of war shall come close and ascend. ¹⁰ Pound your mattocks into swords and your pruning hooks into lances! The defeatist shall say, a master am I!" ¹¹ Mobilize and come, all nations from round about! And they are convened. There, Yahweh, settle Your masters!" ¹² All the nations shall rouse and ascend to the vale of Jehoshaphat. For there will I sit to judge all the nations from round about. ¹³ Send forth the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, tread, for the wine trough is full, the wine vats run over, for great is their evil." ¹⁴ Throngs, throngs in the vale of decision! For near is the day of Yahweh in the vale of decision!"

¹⁰ And Amaziah, priest of Bethel, is sending to Jeroboam, king of Israel, saying:Amos conspires against you within the house of Israel. The land is not able to contain all his words." ¹¹ For thus says Amos, By the sword will Jeroboam die. And Israel will verily be deported off his ground." ¹² And Amaziah is saying to Amos, Vision-seer, go! Run your way to the land of Judah, and there eat your bread, and there you shall prophesy." ¹³ Yet at Bethel you shall not continue to prophesy further, for the sanctuary of the king is it, and the house of the kingdom is it."

³ The arrogance of your heart lures you, O tabernacler in the holes of the crag. A height is his dwelling; he is saying in his heart, Who will bring me down to earth?

⁴ Behold! it is made presumptuous:his soul is not upright in him. Yet the just one by his faith shall live.

⁸ Mine is the silver, and Mine is the gold, (averring is Yahweh of hosts)."

²³ And at His coming into the sanctuary, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him while He was teaching, saying, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gives you this authority?

⁴⁵ Again, then, He is coming to the disciples and is saying to them, "Are you drowsing furthermore and resting? For lo! near is the hour, and the Son of Mankind is being given up into the hands of sinners-"

¹¹ For everyone exalting himself shall be humbled, and humbling himself shall be exalted."

³¹ Or what king, going to engage another king in battle, will not, being seated, first plan to see if he is able to meet, with ten thousand, him who is coming against him with twenty thousand?

²⁹ Now He said to them, "Verily, I am saying to you that there is no one who leaves house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children on account of the kingdom of God, ³⁰ who may not by all means be getting back manyfold in this era, and in the coming eon, life eonian."

²⁸ to do whatever Thy hand and Thy counsel designates beforehand to occur.

²¹ For you there is neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not straight in front of God."

²⁵ Now there being disagreements one with another, they were dismissed, Paul making one declaration, that, "Ideally the holy spirit speaks through Isaiah the prophet, to your fathers, ²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people and say, "In hearing, you will be hearing, and may by no means be understanding, And observing, you will be observing, and may by no means be perceiving, ²⁷ For stoutened is the heart of this people, And with their ears heavily they hear, And with their eyes they squint, Lest at some time they may be perceiving with their eyes, And with their ears should be hearing, And with their heart may be understanding, And should be turning about, And I shall be healing them.'"

²² Now if God, wanting to display His indignation and to make His powerful doings known, carries, with much patience, the vessels of indignation, adapted for destruction,

²⁹ so that no flesh at all should be boasting in God's sight.

⁴ Then, concerning the feeding on the idol sacrifices: We are aware that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except One."

²⁰ But that that which the nations are sacrificing, they are sacrificing to demons and not to God. Now I do not want you to become participants with the demons."

¹¹ in Him in Whom our lot was cast also, being designated beforehand according to the purpose of the One Who is operating all in accord with the counsel of His will,

¹⁹ Now my God shall be filling your every need in accord with His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

⁹ whose presence is in accord with the operation of Satan, with all power and signs and false miracles" ¹⁰ and with every seduction of injustice among those who are perishing, because they do not receive the love of the truth for their salvation." ¹¹ And therefore God will be sending them an operation of deception, for them to believe the falsehood,

¹¹ Now you, O man of God, flee from these things: yet pursue righteousness, devoutness, faith, love, with endurance, suffering, and meekness."

¹⁷ that the man of God may be equipped, fitted out for every good act."

³ For the era will be when they will not tolerate sound teaching, but, their hearing being tickled, they will heap up for themselves teachers in accord with their own desires, "

⁸ a man double-souled, turbulent in all his ways."

⁶ Yet greater is the grace He is giving. Wherefore He is saying, God "the proud is resisting, yet to the humble He is giving grace."

⁸ Draw near to God, and He will be drawing near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, double-souled!"

⁸ and a stumbling stone and a snare rock; who are stumbling also at the word, being stubborn, to which they were appointed also."

⁵ Likewise, younger men may be subject to the elder, yet all wear the servile apron of humility with one another, for God "is resisting the proud, yet is giving grace to the humble."

¹⁰ And those dwelling on the earth are rejoicing over them and are making merry, and will be sending approach presents to one another, seeing that these two prophets torment those dwelling on the earth."
