¹³ And I have stretched out over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab, and wiped Jerusalem as one wipes the dish--he has wiped, and has turned [it] on its face.

¹⁰ `Therefore, lo, I am bringing in evil unto the house of Jeroboam, and have cut off to Jeroboam those sitting on the wall--shut up and left--in Israel, and have put away the posterity of the house of Jeroboam, as one puts away the dung till its consumption;"

²¹ lo, I am bringing in unto you evil, and have taken away your posterity, and cut off to Ahab those sitting on the wall, and restrained, and left, in Israel, ²² and given up your house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked [Me], and do cause Israel to sin. ²³ `And also of Jezebel has Yahweh spoken, saying, The dogs do eat Jezebel in the bulwark of Jezreel;" ²⁴ him who dies of Ahab in a city do the dogs eat, and him who dies in a field do fowl of the heavens eat;"

¹¹ And Jehu smites all those left to the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his acquaintances, and his priests, till he has not left to him a remnant.

⁶ in the ninth year of Hoshea has the king of Asshur captured Samaria, and removes Israel to Asshur, and causes them to dwell in Halah, and in Habor, [by] the river Gozan, and [in] the cities of the Medes.

²² For, should the people of Israel come to be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved among them. The conclusion decided shall be overflowing with righteousness,

²³ And I make Babylon desolate, for a tenancy of the hedgehog, with watery marshes, and I mop it with the mop of extermination,averring is Yahweh of hosts."

¹⁷ And I constitute judgment for the tape, and righteousness for the plummet, and the hail will shovel away the refuge of the lie, and the concealment the waters will overflow."

¹¹ Yet the pelican shall tenant it and the hedgehog, and the eagle owl and the raven shall roost in it. And leveling tape of chaos shall stretch out over it, and the plumb stones of vacancy."

⁹ Lo, I am sending, and have taken all the families of the north--an affirmation of Yahweh--even unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and have brought them in against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about, and have devoted them, and appointed them for an astonishment, and for a hissing, and for wastes eonian."

⁸ Yahweh has designed to ruin the wall of the daughter of Zion; He has stretched out the measuring tape; He has not turned back His hand from dismantling; So He makes the rampart and wall mourn; together they are enfeebled.

³¹ In the way of your sister you have walked, And I have given her cup into your hand." ³² Thus said the Lord Yahweh:The cup of your sister you do drink, The deep and the wide one, (You are for laughter and for scorn,) Abundant to contain." ³³ With drunkenness and sorrow you are filled, A cup of astonishment and desolation, The cup of your sister Samaria." ³⁴ And you have drunk it, and have drained [it], And its earthen ware you do gnaw, And your own breasts you pluck off, For I have spoken, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh,

¹⁰ Make abundant the wood, Kindle the fire, consume the flesh, And make the compound, And let the bones be burnt." ¹¹ And cause it to stand on its coals empty, So that its brass is hot and burning, Melted has been in its midst its uncleanness, Consumed is its scum."

⁷ Thus Yahweh shows me:And, behold! my Lord is stationed on a plumb-lined wall. And in His hand is a plumbline." ⁸ And Yahweh is saying to me, What are you seeing Amos? And I am saying, A plumbline. And my Lord is saying to me, Behold Me placing a plumbline within My people Israel; I will not continue to pass by them any longer."

¹⁶ Therefore thus says Yahweh:I return to Jerusalem with compassions; My house shall be built in it, (averring is Yahweh of hosts), and a tape shall be stretched out on Jerusalem."

²¹ And one strong messenger lifts a stone, as large as a millstone, and casts it into the sea, saying that "Thus Babylon, the great city, will be hurled down, and nevermore be found in it." ²² And the sound of lyre singers and entertainers, and of flutists and trumpeters should be heard in you nevermore; and every artificer of every trade may be found in you nevermore; and the sound of a millstone should be heard in you nevermore;" ²³ and the light of a lamp may be appearing in you nevermore; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride should be heard in you nevermore; for your merchants were the magnates of the earth, for by your enchantment all nations were deceived."
