¹ And it comes to pass, at the revolution of the year--at the time of the going out of the messengers--that David sends Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel, and they destroy the Bene-Ammon, and lay siege against Rabbah. And David is dwelling in Jerusalem, ² and it comes to pass, at evening-time, that David rises from off his couch, and walks up and down on the roof of the king's house, and sees from the roof a woman bathing, and the woman [is] of very good appearance, ³ and David sends and inquires about the woman, and said, `Is not this Bath-Sheba, daughter of Eliam, wife of Uriah the Hittite?. <sup>4</sup> And David sends messengers, and takes her, and she comes unto him, and he lies with her--and she is purifying herself from her uncleanness--and she turns back unto her house;" <sup>5</sup> and the woman conceives, and sends, and declares to David, and said, `I [am] conceiving.. ⁶ And David sends unto Joab, `Send unto me Uriah the Hittite,' and Joab sends Uriah unto David;" <sup>7</sup> and Uriah comes unto him, and David asks of the prosperity of Joab, and of the prosperity of the people, and of the prosperity of the war. <sup>8</sup> And David said to Uriah, `Go down to your house, and wash your feet;' and Uriah goes out of the king's house, and there goes out after him a gift from the king, ⁹ and Uriah lies down at the opening of the king's house, with all the servants of his lord, and has not gone down unto his house. ¹⁰ And they declare to David, saying, `Uriah has not gone down unto his house;' and David said unto Uriah, `Have you not come from a journey? wherefore have you not gone down unto your house?. ¹¹ And Uriah said unto David, `The ark, and Israel, and Judah, are abiding in booths, and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, on the face of the field are encamping; and I--I go in unto my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife! --your life, and the life of your soul--if I do this thing.. <sup>12</sup> And David said unto Uriah, `Abide in this [place] also to-day, and to-morrow I send you away;' and Uriah abides in Jerusalem, on that day, and on the morrow, ¹³ and David calls for him, and he eats before him, and drinks, and he causes him to drink, and he goes out in the evening to lie on his couch with the servants of his lord, and unto his house he has not gone down. ¹⁴ And it comes to pass in the morning, that David writes a letter unto Joab, and sends by the hand of Uriah;" ¹⁵ and he writes in the letter, saying, `Place you Uriah over-against the front of the severest battle, and you have turned back from after him, and he has been smitten, and has died.. <sup>16</sup> And it comes to pass in Joab's watching of the city, that he appoints Uriah unto the place where he knew that valiant men [are];" <sup>17</sup> and the men of the city go out and fight with Joab, and there fall [some] of the people, of the servants of David; and there dies also Uriah the Hittite. <sup>18</sup> And Joab sends and declares to David all the matters of the war, <sup>19</sup> and commands the messenger, saying, `At your finishing all the matters of the war to speak unto the king, ²⁰ then, it has been, if the king's fury ascend, and he has said to you, Wherefore did you draw nigh unto the city to fight? did you not know that they shoot from off the wall? ²¹ Who smote Abimelech son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast on him a piece of a rider from the wall, and he dies in Thebez? why drew you nigh unto the wall? that you have said, Also your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead.. ²² And the messenger goes, and comes in, and declares to David all that with which Joab sent him, ²³ and the messenger said unto David, `Surely the men have been mighty against us, and come out unto us into the field, and we are upon them unto the opening of the gate, <sup>24</sup> and those shooting shoot at your servants from off the wall, and [some] of the servants of the king are dead, and also, your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead. <sup>25</sup> And David said unto the messenger, `Thus do you say unto Joab, Let not this thing be evil in your eyes; for thus and thus does the sword devour; strengthen your warfare against the city, and throw it down--and strengthen you him.. ²⁶ And the wife of Uriah hears that Uriah her husband [is] dead, and laments for her lord;" ²⁷ and the mourning passes by, and David sends and gathers her unto his house, and she is to him for a wife, and bears to him a son; and the thing which David has done is evil in the eyes of Yahweh.

¹¹ (For only Og king of Bashan had remained of the rest of the Rephaim. Behold, his divan is a burial divan of wrought iron. Is it not in Rabbah of the sons of Ammon? Nine cubits is its length and four cubits its width, in the cubit measure of a man..

²⁶ And Joab fights against Rabbah of the Bene-Ammon, and captures the royal city, ²⁷ and Joab sends messengers unto David, and said, `I have fought against Rabbah--also I have captured the city of waters;" ²⁸ and now, gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city, and capture it, lest I capture the city, and my name has been called upon it..

²² And the prophet comes nigh unto the king of Israel, and said to him, `Go, strengthen yourself, and know and see that which you do, for at the turn of the year the king of Aram is coming up against you..

²⁶ And it comes to pass at the turn of the year, that Ben-Hadad inspects the Arameans, and goes up to Aphek, to battle with Israel,

¹ And it comes to pass, at the time of the turn of the year--at the time of the going out of the messengers--that Joab leads out the force of the host, and destroys the land of the sons of Ammon, and comes in and besieges Rabbah--David is abiding in Jerusalem--and Joab smites Rabbah, and breaks it down.

¹⁰ and at the turn of the year has king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brings him in to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Yahweh, and causes Zedekiah his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem.

⁸ A season to love and a season to hate; A season of war and a season of peace.

²⁰ A way appoint for the coming of the sword, Unto Rabbath of the sons of Ammon, And to Judah, in Jerusalem--the fenced."

³ Then Yahweh shall fare forth and fight against those nations, as the day He fought in the day of attack."

⁶ And seeing is the woman that the tree is good for food, and that it brings a yearning to the eyes, and is to be coveted as the tree to make one intelligent. And taking is she of its fruit and is eating, and she is giving, moreover, to her husband with her, and they are eating."

² And seeing are sons of the elohim the daughters of the human, that they are good, and taking are they for themselves wives of all whom they choose.

² And seeing her is Shechem, son of Hamor, the Hivite, the prince of the land. And taking her is he and lying with her and humiliating her.

⁶ And leaving is he all that is his in the hand of Joseph. And naught knows he of his, save the bread which he is eating. And coming is Joseph to have a lovely shape and a lovely appearance.

⁸ When you build a new house, then you must make a parapet for your housetop so that you do not bring blood-guilt on your house in case someone falling from it might fall to death.

²⁵ And they come down from the high place to the city, and he speaks with Saul on the roof.

⁵ And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, go, and come in at the heat of the day unto the house of Ish-Bosheth, and he is lying down--the lying down of noon;"

⁷ yea, they come in to the house, and he is lying on his bed, in the inner part of his bed-chamber, and they smite him, and put him to death, and turn aside his head, and they take his head, and go the way of the plain all the night,

¹ I contracted a covenant with my eyes So how should I wrongly consider a virgin?

³⁷ Avert my eyes from looking at futile things; Revive me in Your way.

²⁵ Do not covet after her loveliness in your heart, And do not let her captivate you with her eyelids."

¹⁵ Slothfulness casts one down into stupor, So that the soul of the indolent man shall famish."

³³ A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands, to lie at rest, ³⁴ And your destitution will come like a wayfarer, And your lack like a man with a shield."

³⁰ Grace may be false and loveliness vain, But the woman fearful of Yahweh, she shall be praised."

¹³ and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, have been--as the place of Tophet--defiled, even all the houses on whose roofs they have made perfume to all the host of the heavens, so as to pour out oblations to other elohims.'"

²⁸ Yet I am saying to you that every man looking at a woman to lust for her already commits adultery with her in his heart.

²⁷ What I am saying to you in the darkness, say in the light. And what you hearing in the ear, herald on the housetops."

⁴⁰ And He is coming to the disciples and is finding them drowsing. And He is saying to Peter, "Is it thus: you are not strong enough to watch one hour with Me? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, lest you may be entering into trial. The spirit, indeed, is eager; yet the flesh is infirm."

⁹ Now, on the morrow, as they are journeying and drawing near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray about the sixth hour of the day."

⁶ Consequently, then, we may not be drowsing, even as the rest, but we may be watching and be sober." ⁷ For those who are drowsing are drowsing at night, and those who are drunk are drunk at night."

⁷ Now the consummation of all is near. Be sane, then, and sober for prayers,

¹⁶ for everything that is in the world, the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the ostentation of living, is not of the Father, but is of the world."

³⁹ Uriah the Hittite; in all thirty and seven.

⁵ And these were born to him in Jerusalem:Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon--four, of Bath-Sheba daughter of Ammiel.

⁴¹ Uriah the Hittite, Zabad son of Ahlai,

⁸ Fed horses--they have been early risers, Each to the wife of his neighbor they neigh."

⁶ For they kindle their heart as a stove, in their ambush; all the night their anger is smoking; in the morning it is consuming as a blazing fire." ⁷ All of them are being warmed as by a stove, and they devour their judges. All their kings fall; there is none among them calling to Me."

¹⁴ Now each one is undergoing trial when he is drawn away and lured by his own desire. ¹⁵ Thereafter, the desire, conceiving, is bringing forth sin. Now sin, fully consummated, is teeming forth death."

⁷ And coming is it after these things, that lifting is the wife of his lord her eyes to Joseph and is saying, "Lie with me.

² Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, When a woman conceives seed and bears a male then she will be unclean seven days; as the days of her menstrual period shall she be unclean. ³ On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. ⁴ Then she shall dwell thirty-three days more in her cleansing blood-flows. She shall not touch anything holy, and she shall not come to the sanctuary until the days of her cleansing be full. ⁵ And if she should bear a female, then she will be unclean two weeks, as during her period, and she shall dwell sixty-six days more in her cleansing blood-flows.

¹⁹ When a woman comes to be discharging and her discharge in her flesh be blood, seven days shall she come to be in her period, and anyone touching her is unclean until the evening. ²⁰ Everything on which she has lain during her period is unclean, and everything on which she has sat is unclean. ²¹ Anyone touching her bedding shall rinse his garments and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening; ²² and anyone touching any article on which she has sat shall rinse his garments and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening. ²³ Whether it was on the bedding or on the article on which she was sitting when he touched it, he is unclean until the evening. ²⁴ If a man should lie, yea lie with her, and her period should come on him, then he will be unclean seven days; and any bedding on which he has lain is unclean. ²⁵ In case a woman discharges a discharge of her blood many days, not in the season of her period, or in case she discharges beyond her period, all the days of the discharge of her uncleanness shall she come to be as in the days of her period; she is unclean. ²⁶ Any bedding on which she has lain all the days of her discharge, as the bedding of her period shall it become to her, and any article on which she has sat shall become unclean as during the uncleanness of her period. ²⁷ Anyone touching them shall be unclean; he will rinse his garments and bathe in water and be unclean until the evening. ²⁸ When she is clean from her discharge then she will count off for herself seven days, and afterward she is clean. ²⁹ On the eighth day she shall take for herself two turtledoves or two dove squabs and bring them to the priest, to the opening of the tent of appointment. ³⁰ Then the priest will make of the one a sin offering and of the other an ascent offering. Thus the priest will make a propitiatory shelter over her before Yahweh because of the discharge of her uncleanness. ³¹ You will warn the sons of Israel against their uncleanness so that they may not die in their uncleanness when they defile My tabernacle which is in their midst. ³² This is the law for the one discharging and from whom is coming forth an emission of semen to be unclean by it; ³³ also for the menstruous one in her period, as well as for the one discharging with his discharge, for the male as for the female, and for the man who is lying with her who is unclean.

¹⁹ To a woman in the period of her uncleanness you shall not approach to expose her nakedness.

⁹ If my heart has been enticed by another's wife, Or I have waited in ambush at my associate's portal, ¹⁰ May my wife grind grain for another, And may others crouch down upon her. ¹¹ For that would be a crime, And that would be depravity calling for judiciary mediators.

¹⁸ If you see a thief, you approve of him, And your portion is with those committing adultery."

¹ {A Davidic Psalm{ {When Nathan the prophet came to him after he had come to Bath-sheba.{ Be gracious to me, O Elohim, according to Your benignity; According to Your many compassions wipe out my transgressions." ² Rinse me abundantly from my depravity, And from my sin cleanse me." ³ For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is in front of me continually." ⁴ Against You, against You alone have I sinned And done what is evil in Your eyes, So that You may be justified when You speak, And be cleared when You judge." ⁵ Behold, I was with depravity when I was travailed in birth, And in sin when my mother conceived me." ⁶ Behold, You delight in truth even in the hidden parts, And in the secret parts You cause me to know wisdom." ⁷ Expiate me with the hyssop, and I shall be clean; Rinse me, and I shall be whiter than snow." ⁸ Let me hear elation and rejoicing; Let the bones You have crushed exult. ⁹ Conceal Your face from my sins, And all my depravities wipe out." ¹⁰ Create for me a clean heart, O Elohim, And renew within me an established spirit." ¹¹ O do not fling me from Your presence, And do not take Your holy spirit from me." ¹² Do restore to me the elation of Your salvation, And stabilize me with a willing spirit." ¹³ Let me teach transgressors Your ways, That sinners may return to You." ¹⁴ Rescue me from bloodguilt, O Elohim, the Elohim of my salvation, That my tongue may be jubilant at Your righteousness." ¹⁵ O Yahweh, open my lips, That my mouth may tell forth Your praise." ¹⁶ For You are not delighting in sacrifice, that I should give it; An ascent approach You are not holding dear." ¹⁷ The sacrifices to Elohim are a broken spirit; A broken and crushed heart, O Elohim, You shall not despise." ¹⁸ In Your benevolence, bring good to Zion; Build up the walls of Jerusalem." ¹⁹ Then You shall delight in righteous sacrifices, ascent approach and wholly fumed offering; Then young bulls shall be offered up on Your altar. {Permanent{ "

²⁰ So also is the way of an adulterous woman; She eats and wipes off her mouth, And she says, I have not contrived lawlessness."

²² In case a man should be found lying with a woman possessed by a possessor, then they must die, indeed both of them, the man who was lying with the woman and the woman. Thus you will eradicate the evil from Israel.

³⁴ For jealousy incites the fury of a master, And he shall not spare in the day of vengeance;"

⁷ Would you not, should you be doing well, lift it up? And should you not be doing well, at the opening a sin offering is reclining, and for you is its restoration. And you are ruler over it.

¹⁸ And saying is he, "What is the surety which I shall give to you?And saying is she, "Your seal and your twist and your staff which is in your hand.And giving them is he to her, and is coming to her, and pregnant is she by him. ¹⁹ And rising is she and going, and is taking away her veil off her and is putting on the garments of her widowhood. ²⁰ And sending is Judah the kid of the goats by the hand of his shepherd, the Adullamite, to take the surety from the hand of the woman. Yet he did not find her. ²¹ And asking is he the mortals of her place, saying, "Where is the hallowed harlot, she at the springs, on the way?And saying are they, "No hallowed harlot came to be in this place. ²² And returning is he to Judah and saying, "I did not find her. And, moreover, the mortals of the place say, `No hallowed harlot came to be in this place.. ²³ And saying is Judah, "Take it to her shall she, lest we come into contempt! Behold! I send this kid and you did not find her!"

³⁰ And he said, `I have sinned; now, honor me, I pray you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn back with me; and I have bowed myself to Yahweh your Elohim..

¹² Even if evil is sweet in his mouth, And he suppresses it under his tongue, ¹³ Though he spares it and does not forsake it, And he holds fast to it in the midst of his palate, ¹⁴ Yet his bread shall turn sour in his bowels, The bile of cobras within him.

¹³ He who covers his transgressions shall not prosper, Yet he who confesses and forsakes them shall receive compassion."

¹³ And saying is Yahweh, "Forasmuch as close to Me is this people with their mouth, and with their lips they glorify Me, yet their heart is far from Me, and their fear of Me is becoming as the instruction of mortals' teaching."

⁷⁰ Yet he disowns Him in front of them all, saying, "Not aware am I what you are saying!"

⁷² And again he disowns with an oath, saying that "I am not acquainted with the man!"

⁷⁴ Then he begins to be damning and swearing, saying that "I am not acquainted with the man!"

⁶ And saying is he to them, "Fares he well?And saying are they, "Well fares he. And behold! Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the flock.

¹⁴ And saying to him is Israel, "Go, pray, and see if it is well with your brothers, and well with the flock, and return me word.And sending him is he from the vale of Hebron. And coming is he to Shechem.

²² And David lets down the goods from off him on the hand of a keeper of the goods, and runs into the rank, and comes and asks of his brethren of welfare.

⁴ Let a little water, pray, be taken, and they will wash your feet. And lean back under the tree.

² And saying is he, "Behold, pray, my lords! Withdraw, pray, to the house of your servant and lodge and wash your feet, and rise early and go on your way.And saying are they, "No, for in the square will we lodge.

²⁴ And forth is he bringing Simeon to them. And bringing is the man the mortals to Joseph's house. And giving them is he water, and washing are they their feet. And giving is he provender to their asses.

³⁴ And lifting up is he helpings, from before him, for them, and much more is Benjamin's helping than all their helpings by five handfuls. And drinking are they with him and are gratified.

² They speak hypocrisy, each one with his associate; With a lip of slick words, with a double-minded heart they speak.

²¹ Would not Elohim Himself investigate this? For He is knowing the obscured secrets of the heart.

²¹ Words from his mouth are slicker than clotted cream, Yet an attack is planned in his heart; His words are more soothing than oil, Yet they are unloosed swords!"

¹⁵ Woe to those digging deep, to conceal counsel from Yahweh, and it comes that their doings are in darkness. And saying are they, `Who sees us?' And `Who knows us?'"

⁴⁴ And, being turned to the woman, He averred to Simon, "Are you observing this woman? I entered into your house; water for My feet you do not give, yet she rains tears on My feet and with her hair she wipes them off;"

² Now nothing is covered up which shall not be revealed, and hidden which shall not be known,

¹³ And there is not a creature which is not apparent in its sight. Now all is naked and bare to the eyes of Him to Whom we are accountable.

¹² He is annulling the devisings of the crafty, So that their hands may not achieve prosperity, ¹³ Seizing the wise in their craftiness, So that their cunning counsel is carried headlong. ¹⁴ By day they encounter darkness, And as in the night, they grope at noon.

³⁰ There is no wisdom, there is no comprehension, And there is no counsel in confronting Yahweh."

²⁶ and she said, `O, my lord, your soul lives! my lord, I [am] the woman who stood with you in this [place], to pray unto Yahweh;"

⁴ And the people sends to Shiloh, and they take up thence the ark of the covenant of Yahweh of Hosts, inhabiting the cherubs, and there [are] two sons of Eli, with the ark of the covenant of Elohim, Hophni and Phinehas.

¹⁸ And Saul said to Ahiah, `Bring nigh the ark of Elohim;' for the ark of Elohim has been on that day with the sons of Israel.

⁵⁵ And when Saul sees David going out to meet the Philistine, he has said unto Abner, head of the host, `Whose son [is] this--the youth, Abner?' and Abner said, `Your soul lives, O king, I have not known..

³ And David swears again, and said, `Your father has certainly known that I have found grace in your eyes, and he said, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; and yet, Yahweh lives, and your soul lives, but--as a step between me and death..

²⁶ and now, my lord, Yahweh lives, and your soul lives, in that Yahweh has withheld you from coming in with blood, and to save your hand to you--now let your enemies be as Nabal, even those seeking evil unto my lord.

² that the king said unto Nathan the prophet, `See, I pray you, I am dwelling in a house of cedars, and the ark of Elohim is dwelling in the midst of the curtain..

⁶ for I have not dwelt in a house even from the day of My bringing up the sons of Israel out of Egypt, even unto this day, and am walking up and down in a tent and in a tabernacle.

¹⁹ And the king said, `Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?' And the woman answers and said, `Your soul lives, my lord, O king, none [does turn] to the right or to the left from all that my lord the king has spoken; for your servant Joab he commanded me, and he put in the mouth of your maid-servant all these words;"

⁶ and David said unto Abishai, `Now does Sheba son of Bichri do evil to us more than Absalom; you, take the servants of your lord, and pursue after him, lest he have found for himself fenced cities, and delivered himself [from] our eye..

¹² And my Lord, Yahweh of hosts, will call for lamentation in that day, and for wailing, and for baldness, and for girding on sackcloth;" ¹³ yet behold! Elation will they make and rejoicing, killing an ox and slaying from the flock, eating flesh and drinking wine, saying, "Eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die." ¹⁴ Yet it is revealed in my ears by Yahweh of hosts, "If a propitiatory shelter be made for this depravity of yours, still you shall die!says my Lord, Yahweh of hosts."

²⁴ A disciple is not above his teacher, neither a slave above his lord." ²⁵ Sufficient is it for the disciple that he may be becoming as his teacher, and the slave as his lord. If they surname the householder Beezeboul, how much rather those of his household."

¹⁴ If, then, I, the Lord and the Teacher, wash your feet, you also ought to be washing one another's feet."

²⁵ Now every contender is controlling himself in all things; they, indeed, then, that they may be obtaining a corruptible wreath, yet we an incorruptible." ²⁶ Now then, thus am I racing, not as dubious, thus am I boxing, not as punching the air, ²⁷ but I am belaboring my body and leading it into slavery, lest somehow, when heralding to others, I myself may become disqualified."

³ Suffer evil with me, as an ideal soldier of Christ Jesus." ⁴ No one who is warring is involved in the business of a livelihood, that he should be pleasing the one who enlists him."

¹² if we are enduring, we shall be reigning together also; if we are disowning, He also will be disowning us;"

¹ Surely, in consequence, then, we also, having so vast a cloud of witnesses encompassing us, putting off every impediment and the popular sin, may be racing with endurance the contest lying before us, ² looking off to the Inaugurator and Perfecter of faith, Jesus, Who, for the joy lying before Him, endures a cross, despising the shame, besides is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

²² But though you do wash with nitre, And do multiply to yourself soap, Marked is your iniquity before Me, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh." ²³ How say you, `I have not been defiled, After the Baalim I have not gone?' See your way in a valley, know what you have done, A swift dromedary winding her ways,

³⁷ Also from this you go out, And your hands on your head, For Yahweh has kicked at your confidences, And you do not give prosperity to them!"

³² Go! Give will we our father wine to drink, and lie with him and keep alive seed from our father. ³³ And giving are they their father wine to drink in that night. And coming is the firstborn, and lying with her father in that night, and he knows not her lying nor her rising. ³⁴ And coming is it on the morrow that the firstborn is saying to the inferior in station, "Behold! I lay yesternight with our father. We will give him wine to drink tonight, moreover. And you come, lie with him, and we will keep alive seed from our father. ³⁵ And, moreover, they are giving their father wine to drink in that night, and rising is the inferior in station, and is lying with her father. And he knows not her lying nor her rising.

²¹ Moses said to Aaron: What has this people done to you that you have brought on them a great sin?

¹ Wine is a mocker; an intoxicant is a discomfiter; And anyone led into error by it is not wise.

¹⁵ Woe to him giving his associate drink, adjoining your fury, and, indeed, making him drunk that he may look on their nakedness."

⁸ And she writes letters in the name of Ahab, and seals with his seal, and sends the letters unto the elders, and unto the freemen, who are in his city, those dwelling with Naboth, ⁹ and she writes in the letters, saying, `Proclaim a fast, and cause Naboth to sit at the head of the people, ¹⁰ and cause two men--sons of worthlessness--to sit over-against him, and they testify of him, saying, You have blessed Elohim and Melech; and they have brought him out, and stoned him, and he dies..

¹³ Moreover, keep back Your servant from arrogancies; Let them not rule over me. Then I shall be flawless, And I will be innocent of great transgression."

² Your tongue devises woes, Like a honed razor, you who practice deceit."

⁹ Common sons of Adam are only a transitory breath, Noted sons of man a lie; If brought up on the scales, They are less than a transitory breath altogether."

¹ Who does make my head waters, And mine eye a fountain of tears? And I weep by day and by night, For the wounded of the daughter of my people." ² Who does give me in a wilderness A lodging-place of travellers? And I leave my people, and go from them, For all of them [are] adulterers, An assembly of treacherous ones." ³ And they bend their tongue, their bow [is] a lie, And not for stedfastness have they been mighty in the land, For from evil unto evil they have gone forth, And Me they have not known, An affirmation of Yahweh!" ⁴ Each of his friend--beware you, And on any brother, do not trust, For every brother does utterly supplant, For every friend slanderously does walk,

⁹ Crooked [is] the heart above all things, And it [is] incurable--who does know it?

³ Both palms are set upon the evil to do it thoroughly:The chief is asking, also the judge, for a repayment, and the great one, he is speaking the woe of his soul. And they are entwining it." ⁴ Their good is as prickly nightshade; their uprightness is a hedge. The day of your watchmen, your visitation, comes; now shall be their perplexity." ⁵ You must not believe in an associate. You must not trust in a mentor. From her who is lying in your bosom, keep the portals of your mouth,

¹⁷ And Saul said unto David, `Lo, my elder daughter Merab--her I give to you for a wife; only, be to me for a son of valor, and fight the battles of Yahweh;' and Saul said, `Let not my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him..

²¹ and Saul said, `I give her to him, and she is to him for a snare, and the hand of the Philistines is on him;' and Saul said unto David, `By the second--you do become my son-in-law to-day..

²⁵ And Saul said, `Thus do you say to David, There is no delight to the king in dowry, but in a hundred foreskins of the Philistines--to be avenged on the enemies of the king;' and Saul thought to cause David to fall by the hand of the Philistines.

¹⁷ and the men of the city go out and fight with Joab, and there fall [some] of the people, of the servants of David; and there dies also Uriah the Hittite.

⁹ `Wherefore have you despised the word of Yahweh, to do the evil thing in His eyes? Uriah the Hittite you have smitten by the sword, and his wife you have taken to you for a wife, and him you have slain by the sword of the Bene-Ammon.

⁴ Against You, against You alone have I sinned And done what is evil in Your eyes, So that You may be justified when You speak, And be cleared when You judge."

¹⁴ Rescue me from bloodguilt, O Elohim, the Elohim of my salvation, That my tongue may be jubilant at Your righteousness."

¹³ Sing you to Yahweh, praise Yahweh, For He has delivered the soul of the needy From the hand of evil doers."

¹⁷ And the king said to runners, those standing by him, `Turn round, and put to death the priests of Yahweh, because their hand also [is] with David, and because they have known that he is fleeing, and have not uncovered mine ear;' and the servants of the king have not been willing to put forth their hand to come against the priests of Yahweh. <sup>18</sup> And the king said to Doeg, `Turn round you, and come against the priests;' and Doeg the Edomite turns round, and comes himself against the priests, and puts to death in that day eighty and five men bearing a linen ephod, ¹⁹ and Nob, the city of the priests, he has smitten by the mouth of the sword, from man even unto woman, from infant even unto suckling, and ox, and ass, and sheep, by the mouth of the sword.

²⁷ And Abner turns back to Hebron, and Joab turns him aside unto the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and smites him there in the fifth [rib] --and he dies--for the blood of Asahel his brother.

²¹ Who smote Abimelech son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast on him a piece of a rider from the wall, and he dies in Thebez? why drew you nigh unto the wall? that you have said, Also your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead..

⁹ And Joab said to Amasa, `Are you [in] peace, my brother?' and the right hand of Joab lays hold on the beard of Amasa to give a kiss to him;" ¹⁰ and Amasa has not been watchful of the sword that [is] in the hand of Joab, and he smites him with it unto the fifth [rib], and sheds out his bowels to the earth, and he has not repeated [it] to him, and he dies; and Joab and Abishai his brother have pursued after Sheba son of Bichri.

⁵ `And also, you have known that which he did to me--Joab son of Zeruiah--that which he did to two heads of the hosts of Israel, to Abner son of Ner, and to Amasa son of Jether--that he slays them, and makes the blood of war in peace, and puts the blood of war in his girdle, that [is] on his loins, and in his sandals that [are] on his feet;"

³¹ And the king said to him, `Do as he has spoken, and fall upon him, and you have buried him, and turned aside the causeless blood which Joab shed, from off me, and from off the house of my father;" ³² and Yahweh has turned back his blood on his own head, who has fallen on two men more righteous and better than he, and slays them with the sword, --and my father David knew not--Abner son of Ner, head of the host of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, head of the host of Judah;" ³³ yea, turned back has their blood on the head of Joab, and on the head of his seed to the eon; and for David, and for his seed, and for his house, and for his throne, there is peace unto the eon, from Yahweh.. ³⁴ And Benaiah son of Jehoiada goes up and falls upon him, and puts him to death, and he is buried in his own house in the wilderness,

¹² they have proclaimed a fast, and caused Naboth to sit at the head of the people, ¹³ and two men--sons of worthlessness--come in, and sit over-against him, and the men of worthlessness testify of him, even Naboth, before the people, saying, `Naboth blessed Elohim and Melech;' and they take him out to the outside of the city, and stone him with stones, and he dies;" <sup>14</sup> and they send unto Jezebel, saying, `Naboth was stoned, and is dead..

⁶ And he writes unto them a letter a second time, saying, `If you [are] for me, and to my voice are hearkening, take the heads of the men--the sons of your lord, and come unto me about this time to-morrow, to Jezreel;' and the sons of the king [are] seventy men, with the great ones of the city those bringing them up.

¹² If a ruler attends to the word of falsehood, All his ministers will be wicked."

¹¹ Ephraim shall be extorted and bruised in judgment, for he is disposed to go after futilities."

²⁹ Yet answering, Peter and the apostles say, "One must yield to God rather than to men."

³² And he calls him, on that day, Jerubbaal, saying, `The Baal does plead against him, because he has broken down his altar..

¹ And Jerubbaal (he [is] Gideon) rises early, and all the people who [are] with him, and they encamp by the well of Harod, and the camp of Midian has been on the south of him, on the height of Moreh, in the valley.

⁵⁰ And Abimelech goes unto Thebez, and encamps against Thebez, and captures it, ⁵¹ and a strong tower has been in the midst of the city, and thither flee do all the men and the women, and all the masters of the city, and they shut [it] behind them, and go up on the roof of the tower. ⁵² And Abimelech comes unto the tower, and fights against it, and draws nigh unto the opening of the tower to burn it with fire, ⁵³ and a certain woman does cast a piece of a rider on the head of Abimelech, and breaks his skull, ⁵⁴ and he calls hastily unto the young man bearing his weapons, and said to him, `Draw your sword, and you have put me to death, lest they say of me--A woman slew him;' and his young man pierced him through, and he dies.

³⁴ Your hands not bound, And your feet to fetters not brought nigh! As one falling before sons of evil--You have fallen!' and all the people add to weep over him.

⁸ Rescue me from all my transgressions; Do not constitute me the reproach of the decadent one.

¹⁰ All of them are answering and saying to you, "Even you are ill as what we were! To us are you comparable!"

⁵¹ As to Samaria, as the half of your sins--she has not sinned, And you do multiply your abominations more than they, And do justify your sisters by all your abominations that you have done." ⁵² You also--bear your shame, That you have adjudged to your sisters, Because of your sins that you have done more abominably than they, They are more righteous than you, And you, also, be ashamed and bear your shame, In your justifying your sisters."

⁸ Oh, Lord, what do I say, after that Israel has turned the neck before its enemies? ⁹ and the Canaanite and all the inhabitants of the land do hear, and have come round against us, and cut off our name out of the earth; and what do You do for Your great name?.

⁹ and you have seen, if the way of its own border it goes up to Beth-Shemesh--He has done to us this great evil; and if not, then we have known that His hand has not come against us; an accident it has been to us..

²⁶ And Joab fights against Rabbah of the Bene-Ammon, and captures the royal city,

¹ For I laid all this on my heart, and my heart saw all this:That the righteous and the wise and their services are in the hand of the One, Elohim; Whether it will be love or hate, a man is not able to know; Everything before them is vanity." ² Just as to all, one event happens, to the righteous one and to the wicked one, to the good one and to the bad one, To the clean one and to the unclean one, To the one who sacrifices and to him who makes no sacrifice, So it is for the good person as for the sinner, For the one who swears just as for one fearful of an oath." ³ This is the evil in all that is done under the sun:That one destiny is for all; Moreover the heart of the sons of humanity is full of evil, And ravings are in their heart throughout their life, Yet after it, they are joined to the dead."

¹¹ Again I saw under the sun That the race is not to the fleet, Nor the battle to valiant masters, Nor even bread for the wise, Nor even riches for the understanding, Nor even favor for the knowing, For season and mischance shall happen to them all." ¹² For, moreover, a man does not know his season; Like fish that are held in a vicious weir, And like birds that are held in a snare, So the sons of humanity themselves are trapped by a season of evil, When it falls on them suddenly."

⁴¹ And a grudge is Esau holding against Jacob on account of the blessing with which his father blesses him. And saying is Esau in his heart, "Approaching are the days of mourning for my father, when I will kill Jacob, my brother.

³¹ And David said unto Joab, and unto all the people who [are] with him, `Rend your garments, and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner;' and king David is going after the bier.

² and Joab sends to Tekoah, and takes thence a wise woman, and said unto her, `Feign yourself a mourner, I pray you, and put on, I pray you, garments of mourning, and anoint not yourself with oil, and you have been as a woman these many days mourning for the dead,

¹⁰ And evil in the eyes of Yahweh is what he does, and, moreover, He is putting him to death also.

²⁹ then the man who is lying with her must give to the maiden's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall become his wife. Inasmuch as he humiliated her he shall not be able to dismiss her all his days.

² And there are born to David sons in Hebron, and his first-born is Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, ³ and his second [is] Chileab, of Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite, and the third [is] Absalom son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur, ⁴ and the fourth [is] Adonijah son of Haggith, and the fifth [is] Shephatiah son of Abital, ⁵ and the sixth [is] Ithream, of Eglah wife of David; these have been born to David in Hebron.

¹³ And David takes again concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after his coming from Hebron, and there are born again to David sons and daughters. ¹⁴ And these [are] the names of those born to him in Jerusalem:Shammuah, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, ¹⁵ and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia, ¹⁶ and Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

⁷ And it is evil in the eyes of Elohim concerning this thing, and He smites Israel,

⁶ You shall destroy all those speaking a lie. Yahweh abhors a man of bloodshed and deceit.

⁴ Against You, against You alone have I sinned And done what is evil in Your eyes, So that You may be justified when You speak, And be cleared when You judge." ⁵ Behold, I was with depravity when I was travailed in birth, And in sin when my mother conceived me."

⁴ May matrimony be honorable in all, and the bed undefiled, for paramours and adulterers will God be judging."
