¹ These are the names of the sons of Israel coming to Egypt with Jacob; they came, each man with his household. ² Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah, ³ Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin, ⁴ Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. ⁵ All the souls having come forth from the thigh of Jacob had become seventy souls. As for Joseph, he was in Egypt. ⁶ Then Joseph died and all his brothers, and all that generation. ⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful and were swarming and numerous and very, very staunch. So the land was filling up with them. ⁸ Then a new king rose over Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph. ⁹ He said to his people: Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more numerous and staunch than we. ¹⁰ Grant attention! Let us show ourselves wise as to them, lest they increase and it come to be when someone proclaims war on us, and they are added, even they, to those hating us, that they fight against us and ascend from the land. ¹¹ Hence they placed over them chiefs of labor conscriptions that they might humiliate them with their burdens. So they were building as bulwark cities for Pharaoh, Pithom and Raamses. ¹² Yet just as they were humiliating them so they multiplied and so they breached forth. Hence the Egyptians were irritated in view of the sons of Israel. ¹³ So the Egyptians made the sons of Israel serve with rigor, ¹⁴ and they embittered their lives with hard service in clay and in bricks, and with all service in the field, in addition to all their service which they served among them with rigor. ¹⁵ Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives (of whom the name of the first one was Shiphrah, and the name of the second Puah. ¹⁶ and said: In your midwifery for the Hebrew women, when you see them on the bracing stones, if it is a son then you will put him to death, and if it is a daughter then she will live. ¹⁷ Yet the midwives feared the One, Elohim, and they did not act just as the king of Egypt had spoken to them; and they kept the boys alive. ¹⁸ Then the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them: For what reason did you do this thing and keep the boys alive? ¹⁹ Now the midwives said to Pharaoh: The Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women, for they are livelier. Ere the midwife comes to them, they have already borne. ²⁰ Hence Elohim dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and were very staunch. ²¹ So it came to be because the midwives feared the One, Elohim, that He provided households for them. ²² Then Pharaoh instructed all his people, saying: Every son born to the Hebrews, into the waterway shall you fling him, yet every daughter you shall keep alive.

³¹ And seeing is Yahweh that Leah is hated, and opening is He her womb. Yet Rachel is barren.

¹⁸ And coming is it, when forth fares her soul (for she died), that she is calling his name Ben-oni. Yet his father calls his name Benjamin.

²³ And coming are the sons of Jacob to be twelve: The sons of Leah, the firstborn of Jacob, Reuben, and Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulon;" ²⁴ and the sons of Rachel, Joseph and Benjamin;" ²⁵ and the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid, Dan, and Naphtali;" ²⁶ and the sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid, Gad, and Ashur. These are the sons of Jacob, who are born to him in Padan, Syria.

⁸ And these are the names of the sons of Israel coming to Egypt: Jacob and his sons: The firstborn of Jacob, Reuben. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben: Enoch and Phallu and Hezron and Carmi. ¹⁰ And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Shaul, son of a Canaanitess. ¹¹ And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohas and Merari. ¹² And the sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Pharez and Zarah. Yet Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And there come to be sons of Pharez: Hezron and Hamul. ¹³ And the sons of Issachar: Tola and Phuvah and Jashub and Shimron. ¹⁴ And the sons of Zebulon: Sered and Elon and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah, which she bears for Jacob in Padan, Syria, and Dinah, his daughter. All the souls of his sons and his daughters are thirty-three. ¹⁶ And the sons of Gad: Ziphion and Haggi and Shuni and Ezbon, Eri and Arodi and Areli. ¹⁷ And the sons of Asher: Imnah and Ishuah and Ishui and Beriah; and Serah, their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. ¹⁸ These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gives to his daughter Leah, and she bears these for Jacob--sixteen souls. ¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And sons are born to Joseph in the land of Egypt, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bears for him, Manasseh and Ephraim. And the sons are born to Manasseh, whom a Syrian concubine bears for him, Machir. And Machir begets Galaad. And the sons of Ephraim, Manasseh's brother: Soutalaam and Taam. And the son of Soutalaam: Edem. ²¹ And the sons of Benjamin: Belah and Becher and Ashbel. And sons were born to Belah: Gera and Naaman, Ehi and Rosh, Muppim and Huppim and to Gera is born Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob. All the souls are eighteen. ²³ And the sons of Dan: Hushim. ²⁴ And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel and Guni and Jezer and Shillem. ²⁵ These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gives to Rachel, his daughter. And she bears these for Jacob. All the souls are seven. ²⁶ All the souls coming with Jacob to Egypt, which fare forth from his thighs, aside from the wives of Jacob's sons--all the souls are sixty six.

³ Reuben, my firstborn, you are my vigor, and the beginning of my virility, with a surplus for bearing and a surplus of strength. ⁴ Ebullient as water, you must not have a surplus! For up you went to the bed of your father. Then you violated my berth to which you went up. ⁵ Simeon and Levi are brothers. They concluded violence out of their covenants. ⁶ Into their deliberation you must not come, my soul! And in their assembly you must not contend, my glory. For in their anger they killed men, and in their acceptance they felled a chief. ⁷ Cursed is their anger, for it was strong. And their rage, for it was obstinate. Apportion them will I in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. ⁸ Judah, you and your brothers will acclaim. Your hands shall be on the scruff of your enemies. Prostrate to you shall the sons of your father. ⁹ The whelp of a lion is Judah. From the prey, my son, bow will he, recline as a lion. And as a parent lion, who will make him rise? ¹⁰ Not withdraw shall the sceptre from Judah, nor a statue-maker's staff from between his feet, till it be that ease shall come to him. And to it shall the expectation of the people be. ¹¹ Bind to a vine will he his colt, and to a yellow muscat grape the foal of his she-ass, he rinses in wine his apparel, and in the blood of grapes his coverlet. ¹² Flushed will be his eyes from wine, and white, his teeth, from milk. ¹³ Zebulon at a port of the seas shall tabernacle, and at a port for ships with its flank unto Sidon. ¹⁴ Issachar covets pleasantness, recline will he between the hearthstones, an. ¹⁵ see a resting place that is good, and a land that is pleasant, yet stretch out will he his shoulder for a burden, and become will he a servant under a labor levy. ¹⁶ Dan shall adjudicate his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. ¹⁷ Become shall Dan a serpent on a way, a horned snake on a path, that bites the heels of a horse, and fall shall its rider backward. ¹⁸ For Your salvation I expect, Yahweh!" ¹⁹ Gad--a raiding party shall `raid' him, yet he shall raid their heels, ²⁰ Asher--stout shall be his bread, and he will provide royal luxuries. ²¹ Naphtali is a oak stretched out, the giver of products that are seemly. ²² A fruitful son is Joseph, a fruitful son, joy of my eye, my son, inferior, to me has returned, ²³ and bitter were they with him, and contended and begrudging him were the archers, ²⁴ yet broken in virility is their bow, and slack are the arms of their hands. From the hands of the Sturdy One of Jacob, thence is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel, ²⁵ from the El of your father, and your Helper, and He Who-Suffices, and your Blesser, blessings of the heavens from above, blessings of the submerged chaos reclining beneath, blessings of the breasts and the womb, ²⁶ blessings of your father and your mother. Master are they over the blessings of my mountains, unto the yearning of the eonian hills, coming are they on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the governor of his brothers. ²⁷ Benjamin is a wolf, tearing to pieces. In the morning he'll devour further, and in the evening he'll apportion the loot.

¹⁴ These are the heads of their fathers' house: The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, are Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben. ¹⁵ The sons of Simeon are Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar and Shaul, the son of the Canaanitess; these are the families of Simeon. ¹⁶ These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their genealogical annals: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were a hundred thirty-seven years.

¹ These [are] sons of Israel:Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun, ² Dan, Joseph, and Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

²³ And these [are] the numbers of the head, of the armed men of the host; they have come in unto David to Hebron to turn round the kingdom of Saul unto him, according to the mouth of Yahweh. ²⁴ The sons of Judah, bearing target and spear, [are] six thousand and eight hundred, armed ones of the host. ²⁵ Of the sons of Simeon, mighty ones of valor for the host, [are] seven thousand and a hundred. ²⁶ Of the sons of Levi [are] four thousand and six hundred; ²⁷ and Jehoiada [is] the leader of the Aaronite, and with him [are] three thousand and seven hundred, ²⁸ and Zadok, a young man, mighty of valor, and of the house of his father [are] twenty and two heads. ²⁹ And of the sons of Benjamin, brethren of Saul, [are] three thousand, and hitherto their greater part are keeping the charge of the house of Saul. ³⁰ And of the sons of Ephraim [are] twenty thousand and eight hundred, mighty of valor, men of name, according to the house of their fathers. ³¹ And of the half of the tribe of Manasseh [are] eighteen thousand, who have been defined by name, to come in to cause David to reign. ³² And of the sons of Issachar, having understanding for the times, to know what Israel should do; their heads [are] two hundred, and all their brethren [are] at their command. ³³ Of Zebulun, going forth to the host, arranging battle with all instruments of battle, [are] fifty thousand, and keeping rank without a double heart. ³⁴ And of Naphtali, a thousand heads, and with them, with target and spear, [are] thirty and seven thousand. ³⁵ And of the Danite, arranging battle, [are] twenty and eight thousand and six hundred. ³⁶ And of Asher, going forth to the host, to arrange battle, [are] forty thousand. ³⁷ And from beyond the Jordan, of the Reubenite, and of the Gadite, and of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, with all instruments of the host for battle, [are] a hundred and twenty thousand. ³⁸ All these [are] men of war, keeping rank--with a perfect heart they have come to Hebron, to cause David to reign over all Israel, and also all the rest of Israel [are] of one heart, to cause David to reign, ³⁹ and they are there, with David, three days, eating and drinking, for their brethren have prepared for them. ⁴⁰ And also those near unto them, unto Issachar, and Zebulun, and Naphtali, are bringing in bread on asses, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen--food of fine flour, fig-cakes and grape-cakes, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep, in abundance, for joy [is] in Israel.

¹⁶ And over the tribes of Israel:Of the Reubenite, a leader [is] Eliezer son of Zichri; of the Simeonite, Shephatiah son of Maachah;" ¹⁷ of the Levite, Hashabiah son of Kemuel; of the Aaronite, Zadok;" ¹⁸ of Judah, Elihu, of the brethren of David; of Issachar, Omri son of Michael;" ¹⁹ of Zebulun, Ishmaiah son of Obadiah; of Naphtali, Jerimoth son of Azriel;" ²⁰ of the sons of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Azaziah; of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, Joel son of Pedaiah;" ²¹ of the half of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo son of Zechariah; of Benjamin, Jaasiel son of Abner; of Dan, Azareel son of Jeroham. ²² these [are] heads of the tribes of Israel.

⁴ And I hear the number of those sealed: a hundred forty-four thousand. Sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel are: ⁵ out of the tribe of Judah twelve thousand are sealed; out of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand; ⁶ out of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand; ⁷ out of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand; ⁸ out of the tribe of Zebulon twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand are sealed.

²² And coming is it, when Israel tabernacles in that land, that going is Reuben and lying with Bilhah, his father's concubine. And hearing of it is Israel, and evil appears it in his eyes. ²³ And coming are the sons of Jacob to be twelve: The sons of Leah, the firstborn of Jacob, Reuben, and Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulon;"

²⁰ and the fourth row of topaz, onyx and jasper. Mounted in gold filigree, shall they be in their fillings.

²⁶ All the souls coming with Jacob to Egypt, which fare forth from his thighs, aside from the wives of Jacob's sons--all the souls are sixty six. ²⁷ And the sons of Joseph who are born to him in Egypt are two souls. All the souls pertaining to the house of Jacob coming to Egypt are seventy-five.

²⁰ Hence Elohim dealt well with the midwives; and the people multiplied and were very staunch.

²² With seventy souls your fathers went down to Egypt. Yet now Yahweh your Elohim has made you as the stars of the heavens for multitude.

³⁰ and to Gideon there have been seventy sons, coming out of his loin, for he had many wives;"

²⁴ And saying is Joseph to his brothers, "I am dying. Yet visit, yea, visit will the Elohim you, and bring you up from this land to the land which the Elohim swore to our forefathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

²⁶ And dying is Joseph, a hundred and ten years old. And embalming him are they, and placed is he in a coffer in Egypt.

¹⁴ Now Joseph, dispatching them, calls for Jacob, his father, and the entire relationship among seventy-five souls." ¹⁵ And Jacob descended into Egypt, and he deceases, he and our fathers, ¹⁶ and they were transferred to Shechem and placed in the tomb which Abraham purchases for a price, in silver, from the sons of Hamor in Shechem."

²⁰ And saying is the Elohim, "Roam shall the water with the roaming, living soul, and the flyer shall fly over the earth on the face of the atmosphere of the heavens." And coming is it to be so.

²⁸ And blessing them is the Elohim. And saying to them is the Elohim, "Be fruitful and increase and fill the earth, and subdue it. And sway over the fish of the sea, and over the flyer of the heavens, and over the beast, and over all the earth, and over all life moving on the land.

¹ And blessing is the Elohim Noah and his sons. And saying is He to them, "Be fruitful and increase and fill the earth and subdue it.

² And make you will I into a great nation, and bless you will I and make your name great, and become must you a blessing.

¹⁶ And I make your seed as the soil of the land. Could a man count the soil of the land, moreover, then your seed shall be counted.

⁵ And forth is he bringing him outside and saying, "Look, pray, toward the heavens and number the stars, if you can number them.And saying is He to him, "Thus shall your seed become.

⁴ And speaking with him is the Elohim, saying, "I, behold! My covenant is with you. And you are to become the forefather of a throng of nations. ⁵ And no further shall your name be called Abram. Yet your name becomes Abraham, for the forefather of a throng of nations have I made you. ⁶ And fruitful I cause you to be exceedingly exceedingly. And I make of you nations, and kings from you shall fare forth.

¹⁶ And I bless her, and, moreover, I give you a son of her. And bless him will I and he comes to be for nations, and kings of peoples shall come from him.

¹⁷ that, blessing, yea, blessing you am I, and increasing, yea, increasing your seed am I as the stars of the heavens and as the sand which is on the sea shore. And your seed shall tenant the gateway of its enemies,

⁴ And increase will I your seed as the stars of the heavens, and give will I to your seed all these lands. And blessed, in your seed, are all the nations of the earth,

³ And El-Who-Suffices will bless you and make you fruitful and increase you, and you shall become an assembly of peoples. ⁴ And give to you will he the blessing of Abraham, my father, to you and to your seed with you, for you to tenant the land of your sojournings, given by the Elohim to Abraham.

¹⁴ And become shall your seed as the soil of the land. And breach forth will you seaward and eastward and northward and toward the south-rim. And blessed, in you, are all the families of the ground, and in your seed.

¹¹ And saying to him is the Elohim, "I am the El-Who-Suffices. Be fruitful and increase. A nation and an assembly of nations shall come from you, and kings from your loins shall fare forth.

³ And saying is He, "I am the El, the Elohim of your forefather. You must not fear to go down to Egypt, for a great nation will I constitute you there.

²⁷ And dwelling is Israel in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen. And holdings have they in it and are fruitful, and increasing exceedingly.

⁴ and saying to me, `Behold Me making you fruitful. And I increase you, and give you to be an assembly of peoples. And I give this land to you and to your seed after you for a freehold eonian..

¹⁶ the Messenger, my Redeemer from all evil, bless these youths. And called on them shall be my name, and the name of my forefathers, Abraham and Isaac. And prolific shall they be, to make a vast increase within the land.

³⁷ The sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses toward Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, those of mastery, besides the little ones.

⁵ And you will respond and say before Yahweh your Elohim:My father was a lost Aramean, and he went down to Egypt, sojourned there with few adult males and became there a nation, great, substantial and numerous.

²³ And their sons You have multiplied as the stars of the heavens, and bring them in unto the land that You have said to their fathers to go in to possess.

²⁴ Then He made His people exceedingly fruitful And made them more plentiful than their foes.

¹⁷ Now, as the time of the promise which God avows to Abraham drew near, the people grow and were multiplied in Egypt, ¹⁸ until a different king rose over Egypt, who had not been acquainted with Joseph."

¹⁸ And I hated all my toil that I was toiling under the sun, That I would leave to the man who shall come after me." ¹⁹ Who knows if he shall be a wise or a frivolous man? Yet he shall have authority over all the fruit of my toil that I toiled, And in which I was wise under the sun; This too is vanity."

¹⁵ Now a man was available in it, provident and wise, And he would have provided escape for the city by his wisdom, Yet not one person remembered that provident man."

¹⁸ until a different king rose over Egypt, who had not been acquainted with Joseph."

⁴ Moab said to the elders of Midian:Now this assembly shall lick up all around us like a bull licks up the green grass of the field. So Balak son of Zippor who was king of Moab at that time ⁵ sent messengers to Balaam son of Beor at Pethor (which is on the Stream in the land of the sons of his people) to call for him, saying:Behold, a people has come forth from Egypt. Behold, they cover the eye of the land, and they are dwelling at my forefront.

² Indeed vexation shall kill the foolish man, And jealousy shall put the simple one to death.

²⁴ Then He made His people exceedingly fruitful And made them more plentiful than their foes. ²⁵ He turned their heart to hate His people, To plot against His servants."

²⁸ In a multitude of people is a king's honor, Yet in a limit of the population is a chancellor's dismay."

⁴ Fury is cruel, and anger overwhelming, Yet who can stand before jealousy?

⁴ And I saw all the toil and all the success of the work done, That it was jealousy of one man over his associate; This too is vanity and a grazing on wind."

³ For we also were once foolish, stubborn, deceived, slaves of various desires and gratifications, leading a life in malice and envy, detestable, hating one another."

¹⁴ Now if you are having bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, are you not vaunting against and falsifying the truth? ¹⁵ This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but terrestrial, soulish, demoniacal. " ¹⁶ For wherever jealousy and faction are, there is turbulence also, and every bad practice."

⁵ Or are you supposing that the scripture is saying this for naught? Is the spirit which dwells in us longing to envy?

⁶ Now come, I pray, curse this people for me, for they are more substantial than I. Perhaps I shall prevail, so that we may smite them and I may drive them out from the land, for I know that whomever you bless is being blessed and whomever you curse is accursed.

¹³ Seizing the wise in their craftiness, So that their cunning counsel is carried headlong.

² In his pride, the wicked one is dashing after the humble; Let them be grabbed in the schemes that they have devised.

³ Against Your people are they carrying on deliberation in craftiness, And they are intriguing against Your secluded ones." ⁴ They say, Come, and let us suppress them as a nation, So that the name of Israel shall not be remembered any more."

²⁵ He turned their heart to hate His people, To plot against His servants."

¹¹ If they say, Do walk with us, Let us wait in ambush for blood, Let us lurk gratuitously for the innocent,

²⁵ There is a way that seems straight before a man, Yet its end becomes the ways of death."

³⁰ There is no wisdom, there is no comprehension, And there is no counsel in confronting Yahweh."

¹⁹ This one, dealing astutely with our race, illtreats the fathers, causing their babes to be exposed that they should not live."

¹² Now, day coming on, making a conspiracy, the Jews anathematize themselves, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they should kill Paul."

¹⁸ Let no one be deluding himself. If anyone among you is presuming to be wise in this eon, let him become stupid, that he may be becoming wise, ¹⁹ for the wisdom of this world is stupidity with God. For it is written, "He is clutching the wise in their craftiness." ²⁰ And again, The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are vain."

¹⁵ This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but terrestrial, soulish, demoniacal. " ¹⁶ For wherever jealousy and faction are, there is turbulence also, and every bad practice." ¹⁷ Now the wisdom from above is first, indeed, pure, thereupon peaceable, lenient, compliant, bulging with mercy and good fruits, undiscriminating, unfeigned." ¹⁸ Now the fruit of righteousness is being sown in peace for those making peace.

¹³ And saying is He to Abram, "Knowing, yea, knowing are you that a sojourner is your seed to become in a land not theirs, and they are to serve them. Yet evil shall they do to them and humiliate them four hundred years.

¹¹ And Joseph located his father and his brothers, and is giving to them a freehold in the land of Egypt in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh instructs.

¹¹ It came to be in those days when Moses had grown up that he went forth to his brothers and saw their burdens. He also saw an Egyptian man smiting a Hebrew man, one of his brothers.

⁷ Then Yahweh said: I see, yea see the humiliation of My people who are in Egypt. And I hear their crying because of the presence of their exactors; for I know their pains.

⁴ Yet the king of Egypt said to them: Why, Moses and Aaron, are you causing the people to renounce their tasks? Go to your burdens!" ⁵ And Pharaoh said: Behold, they are now more numerous than the people of the land, and you cause them to cease from their burdens. ⁶ Hence Pharaoh instructed on that day the exactors among the people and their superintendents, saying.

¹⁵ Then the superintendents of the sons of Israel entered and cried to Pharaoh, saying: Why are you doing thus to your servants?

⁶ Wherefore say to the sons of Israel: I am Yahweh; hence I will bring you forth from beneath the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rescue you from their service. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. ⁷ I will take you to Me as a people. I will become to you as Elohim, and you will realize that I am Yahweh your Elohim, Who brought you forth from beneath the burdens of the Egyptians.

¹⁵ and that our fathers went down to Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt many days and that the Egyptians did evil to us and to our fathers.

⁶ The Egyptians did evil to us, humiliated us and put hard service on us.

¹⁹ and all the cities of stores that king Solomon has, and the cities of the chariots, and the cities of the horsemen, and the desire of Solomon that he desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

⁴ and he builds Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the cities of store that he has built in Hamath.

¹³ Though you may lie between the hearthstones, The dove's wings are overspread with silver, And her pinions with greenish gold dust."

⁶ I have withdrawn his back from its burden; His palms, they were freed from the pannier."

¹³ Then they walked from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people."

⁹ He said to his people: Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more numerous and staunch than we.

¹⁹ The Pharisees, then, say to themselves, "You are beholding that you are benefiting nothing. Lo! the world came away after him!"

² being exasperated because of their teaching the people and announcing in Jesus the resurrection from among the dead. ³ And they laid hands on them, and they were placed in custody for the morrow, for it was already dusk." ⁴ Now many of those who hear the word, believe, and the number of men became about five thousand."

²⁸ saying, "Do we not charge you with a charge not to be teaching in this Name? And lo! you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and are intending to bring on us the blood of this man." ²⁹ Yet answering, Peter and the apostles say, "One must yield to God rather than to men." ³⁰ Now the God of our fathers rouses Jesus, on Whom you lay hands, hanging Him on a pole." ³¹ This Inaugurator and Saviour, God exalts to His right hand, to give repentance to Israel and the pardon of sins." ³² We are witnesses to these declarations, as well as the holy spirit which God gives to those yielding to Him." ³³ Now those who hear were harrowed, and they intended to assassinate them."

²⁸ Now we are aware that God is working all together for the good of those who are loving God, who are called according to the purpose"

⁶ For whom the Lord is loving He is disciplining, Yet He is scourging every son to whom He is assenting." ⁷ For discipline are you enduring. As to sons is God bringing it to you, for what son is there whom the father is not disciplining? ⁸ Now if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, consequently you are bastards and not sons." ⁹ Thereafter, indeed, we had the fathers of our flesh as discipliners, and we respected them. Yet shall we not much rather be subjected to the Father of spirits and be living." ¹⁰ For these, indeed, disciplined for a few days as it seemed best to them, yet that One for our expedience, for us to be partaking of His holiness." ¹¹ Now all discipline, indeed, for the present is not seeming to be a thing of joy, but of sorrow, yet subsequently it is rendering the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those exercised through it."

²⁰ As for you, Yahweh took you, and He brought you forth from the iron crucible, from Egypt, to become His as a people of allotment, as on this day.

¹³ So the Egyptians made the sons of Israel serve with rigor,

²³ In the course of these many days it came to be that the king of Egypt died. Yet the sons of Israel sighed under the servitude and cried out, and their imploration ascended to the One, Elohim, out of the servitude.

⁷ You shall not continue to give crushed straw to the people to mold the bricks as heretofore. They shall go and rake together crushed straw for themselves. ⁸ You shall place on them the regular number of bricks which they were making heretofore. You shall not diminish from it, for they are slackers. Therefore they are crying, saying: Let us go; let us sacrifice to our Elohim. ⁹ The service shall be heavy on the men, and they shall make do with it and not heed false words. ¹⁰ So the exactors of the people and their superintendents went forth and spoke to the people, saying: Thus says Pharaoh: I am not giving crushed straw to you. ¹¹ As for you, go, take for yourselves crushed straw from whatever you may find, because there shall be nothing subtracted from your service. ¹² Hence the people scattered in all the land of Egypt to rake together straw for crushed straw. ¹³ And the exactors were rushing, saying: Finish your tasks, a day's tally in its day, just as when there was crushed straw given to you. ¹⁴ Then the superintendents of the sons of Israel were being smitten, whom Pharaoh's exactors had placed over them, saying: For what reason did you not finish your statutory number of bricks both yesterday and today as you did heretofore? ¹⁵ Then the superintendents of the sons of Israel entered and cried to Pharaoh, saying: Why are you doing thus to your servants? ¹⁶ Crushed straw is not being given to your servants. And of bricks, they are saying to us, Make them. And behold, your servants are being smitten, and your people are at fault. ¹⁷ Yet he said: You are slackers--slackers! Therefore you are saying, Let us go; let us sacrifice to Yahweh. ¹⁸ Yet now go, serve! But crushed straw shall not be given to you, though the regular number of bricks shall you provide. ¹⁹ Hence the superintendents of the sons of Israel saw themselves in an evil plight, having to say: You shall not subtract from your bricks a day's tally in its day. ²⁰ So they came upon Moses and Aaron, stationed to meet them when they came forth from Pharaoh. ²¹ They said to them: May Yahweh see you, and may He judge since you have caused our scent to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants, giving a sword into their hands to kill us.

⁹ When Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, they did not hearken to Moses because of shortness of spirit and hard service.

² I am Yahweh your Elohim Who brought you forth from the land of Egypt, from the house of servants.

⁴³ You shall not hold sway over him with rigor:you will fear your Elohim.

⁴⁶ You may entail them as an allotment to your sons after you together with the tenancy of the holding. For the eon you may make them serve. Yet over your brothers, the sons of Israel, a man over his brother, you shall not hold sway over them with rigor.

⁵³ (As a hireling, year by year shall he be with him; he shall not hold sway over him with rigor before your eyes..

²⁰ She replied to them, You must not call me Naomi. Call me Mara, for He Who-Suffices has brought intense bitterness on me.

⁶ Smitten are peoples in a rage, a smiting barring withdrawal. Swaying, in anger, over nations, pursuing, failing to keep back."

²³ and I place it in the hand of your afflictors and your humblers, who say to your soul, `Prostrate, and we will pass.' And you are placing your body as the earth, and as a street for passers."

⁵ And now, what is for Me here,averring is Yahweh, "that My people are taken gratuitously? Their rulers are howling,averring is Yahweh, "and continually, the entire day, My name is spurned among the nations."

⁶ Is not this the fast that I am choosing,saying is Yahweh:"To unloose all the hindrances of wickedness, and to let loose the bunches of the slider bar, and to send the bruised away free, and every slider bar shall you pull away?

³³ Thus said Yahweh of Hosts:Oppressed are the sons of Israel, And the sons of Judah together, And all their captors have kept hold on them, They have refused to send them away." ³⁴ Their Redeemer [is] strong, Yahweh of Hosts [is] His name, He does thoroughly plead their cause, So as to cause the land to rest, And He has given trouble to the inhabitants of Babylon."

³ and who devour the meat of My people, and their skin they strip off them, and their bones they crunch, and spread them, as meat in the pot, and as flesh in the midst of the caldron."

¹⁴ Bail for yourself water for the siege! Repair your fortresses! Come into the mud, and tramp in the crushed straw! Repair the brickwork!"

³⁴ In perceiving I perceived the ill treatment of My people who are in Egypt,' and their groaning I hear, 'and I descended to extricate them.' And now, come hither that I should be dispatching you into Egypt."

²² Then Pharaoh instructed all his people, saying: Every son born to the Hebrews, into the waterway shall you fling him, yet every daughter you shall keep alive.

³⁸ Yet the farmers, perceiving the son, said among themselves, 'This is the enjoyer of the allotment. Hither! We should be killing him and have the enjoyment of his allotment.'"

⁴ And its tail is dragging a third of the stars of heaven, and casts them into the earth. And the dragon stands before the woman who is about to be bringing forth, that it may be devouring her child whenever she may be bringing forth"

¹¹ And saying is Abraham, "For I feared seeing that I say, `But no fear of the Elohim is in this place, and they will kill me over the matter of my wife..

¹⁸ And saying to them is Joseph on the third day, "This do and live. The Elohim fear I.

²¹ So it came to be because the midwives feared the One, Elohim, that He provided households for them.

¹⁵ the former governors who [are] before me have made themselves heavy on the people, and take of them in bread and wine, besides in silver forty shekels; also, their servants have ruled over the people--and I have not done so, because of the fear of Elohim.

¹⁹ How great is Your goodness Which You have stored up for those fearing You, And have effected for those seeking refuge in You In front of the sons of humanity."

¹³ The fear of Yahweh means to hate evil; Pride and pomp and the way of evil And a mouth of duplicity I hate.

⁶ By benignity and faithfulness depravity shall be sheltered, And by the fear of Yahweh a man will withdraw from evil."

¹¹ Rescue those being taken to death, And you should keep back those who are slipping away to the kill." ¹² If you say, Behold, we know nothing about this, Does not He Who regulates hearts detect it, And He Who preserves your soul know it, Who will render to a man according to his deeds?

¹² Though a sinner does a hundred evils and days are prolonged for him, Yet I know that good shall come to those fearful of the One, Elohim, Who fear before Him."

¹³ The terminus of the whole matter has been heard:Fear the One, Elohim, and keep His instructions, For this is the whole duty of humanity."

¹⁶ Answering are Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego and saying to king Nebuchadnezzar, "Not necessary is it for us to reply to you concerning this rescript." ¹⁷ Should it actually happen, our Eloah in the heavens, Whom we are serving, can deliver us from the glowing, flaming furnace; and from your hand, O king, will He deliver us." ¹⁸ Should He not, be it known to you, O king, that actually your elohim we will not serve, and the golden image that you set up we will not worship."

¹³ Then they respond and are saying before the king, "Daniel, who is of the sons of the deportation of Judah, does not promulgate for you, O king, the decree, the interdict that you signed:At stated times, thrice in the day, he is petitioning his petitions before his Eloah."

¹¹ Ephraim shall be extorted and bruised in judgment, for he is disposed to go after futilities."

¹⁶ They are keeping the statutes of Omri, and every deed of the house of Ahab; and you are going in their counsels, that I may give you up to desolation, and its dwellers to hissing, and you shall bear the reproach of My people."

²⁸ And do not fear those who are killing the body, yet are not able to kill the soul. Yet be fearing Him, rather, Who is able to destroy the soul as well as the body in Gehenna."

⁵ Now I shall be intimating to you of Whom you may be afraid: Be afraid of Him Who, after killing, has authority to be casting into Gehenna. Yea, I am saying to you, of this One be afraid!"

¹⁸ And calling them, they give them a sweeping charge, not to utter aught, nor yet to be teaching in the name of Jesus." ¹⁹ Yet Peter and John, answering, said to them, "If it is just in the sight of God to be hearing you rather than God, you judge;" ²⁰ for we can not but be speaking of what we perceive and hear."

²⁹ Yet answering, Peter and the apostles say, "One must yield to God rather than to men."

²⁸ And Absalom commands his young men, saying, `See, I pray you, when the heart of Amnon [is] glad with wine, and I have said unto you, Smite Amnon, that you have put him to death; fear not; is it not because I have commanded you? be strong, yea, become sons of valor..

⁴ For indeed a king's word has authority, And who can say to him, What are you doing?

⁴ And the woman takes the two men, and hides them, and said thus:`The men came in unto me, and I have not known whence they [are];" <sup>5</sup> and it comes to pass--the gate is to [be] shut--in the dark, and the men have gone out; I have not known whither the men have gone; pursue you, hasten after them, for you overtake them;. <sup>6</sup> and she has caused them to go up on the roof, and hides them with the flax wood, which is arranged for her on the roof. <sup>7</sup> And the men have pursued after them the way of the Jordan, by the fords, and the gate they have shut afterwards, when the pursuers have gone out after them. <sup>8</sup> And--before they lie down--she has gone up unto them on the roof, <sup>9</sup> and she said unto the men, `I have known that Yahweh has given to you the land, and that your terror has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted at your presence. ¹⁰ `For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the waters of the Red Sea at your presence, in your going out of Egypt, and that which you have done to the two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan; to Sihon and to Og whom you devoted. <sup>11</sup> And we hear, and melt does our heart, and there has not stood any more spirit in [any] man, from your presence, for Yahweh your Elohim, He [is] Elohim in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath. <sup>12</sup> `And now, swear you, I pray you, to me by Yahweh--because I have done with you kindness--that you have done, even you, kindness with the house of my father, and have given to me a true token, ¹³ and have kept alive my father, and my mother, and my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and have delivered our souls from death.. ¹⁴ And the men say to her, `Our soul for yours--to die; if you declare not this our matter, then it has been, in Yahweh's giving to us this land, that we have done with you kindness and truth.. <sup>15</sup> And she causes them to go down by a rope through the window, for her house [is] in the side of the wall, and in the wall she [is] dwelling;" <sup>16</sup> and she said to them, `To the mountain go, lest the pursuers come upon you; and you have been hidden there three days till the turning back of the pursuers, and afterwards you go on your way.. ¹⁷ And the men say unto her, `We are acquitted of this your oath which you have caused us to swear. <sup>18</sup> lo, we are coming into the land, this line of scarlet thread you do bind to the window by which you have caused us to go down, and your father, and your mother, and your brethren, and all the house of your father you do gather unto you, to the house;" <sup>19</sup> and it has been, any one who goes out from the doors of your house without, his blood [is] on his head, and we are innocent; and any one who is with you in the house, his blood [is] on our head, if a hand is on him;" <sup>20</sup> and if you declare this our matter, then we have been acquitted from your oath which you have caused us to swear.. <sup>21</sup> And she said, `According unto your words, so it [is];' and she sends them away, and they go; and she binds the scarlet line to the window. ²² And they go, and come in to the mountain, and abide there three days until the pursuers have turned back; and the pursuers seek in all the way, and have not found. ²³ And the two men turn back, and come down from the hill, and pass over, and come in unto Joshua son of Nun, and recount to him all that has come upon them;" ²⁴ and they say unto Joshua, `Surely Yahweh has given into our hand all the land; and also, all the inhabitants of the land have melted at our presence..

² And David said to Ahimelech the priest, `The king has commanded me a matter, and he said unto me, Let no man know anything of the matter about which I am sending you, and which I have commanded you; and the young men I have caused to know at such and such a place;"

¹⁹ and the woman takes and spreads the covering over the face of the well, and spreads on it the ground corn, and the thing has not been known. ²⁰ And the servants of Absalom come in unto the woman to the house, and say, `Where [are] Ahimaaz and Jonathan?' and the woman said to them, `They passed over the brook of water;' and they seek, and have not found, and turn back to Jerusalem.

⁷ And the sons of Israel were fruitful and were swarming and numerous and very, very staunch. So the land was filling up with them.

¹² Yet just as they were humiliating them so they multiplied and so they breached forth. Hence the Egyptians were irritated in view of the sons of Israel.

¹ {A Davidic Psalm{ Happy is he who is acting intelligently toward the poor and needy; In a day of peril, Yahweh shall provide his escape." ² Yahweh, He shall guard him and preserve his life; He shall make him happy in the land, And He shall certainly not give him over to the soul's desires of his enemies."

⁵ For You, O Elohim, You have hearkened to my vows; You have given me the tenancy of those fearing Your Name."

⁹ Yea, His salvation is near to those fearing Him, That glory may tabernacle in our land."

¹¹ For as the heavens are lofty over the earth, So is His benignity masterful over those fearing Him."

⁵ He gave viands to those fearing Him; He shall remember His covenant for the eon.

¹⁹ Benevolence for those fearing Him is He providing, And their imploring is He hearing and is saving them."

¹⁸ The wicked one makes false wages, Yet he who sows righteousness reaps faithful hire."

¹⁷ He who is gracious to a poor man obligates Yahweh, And He shall pay his requital to him."

¹⁰ Say to the righteous that good is his portion, for the fruit of their actions are they eating."

⁴² And whoever should be giving one of these little ones only a cool cup to drink, in the name of a disciple, verily, I am saying to you, by no means should he be losing his wages."

⁴⁰ And, answering, the King shall be declaring to them, 'Verily, I am saying to you, In as much as you do it to one of these, the least of My brethren, you do it to Me.'"

⁵⁰ And His mercy is for generations and generations To those fearing Him.

¹⁰ For God is not unjust, to be forgetting your work and the love which you display for His name when you serve the saints, and are serving."

³⁵ and I have raised up for Me a stedfast priest; as in My heart and in My soul he does do; and I have built for him a stedfast house, and he has walked up and down before Mine anointed all the days;"

²⁸ `Bear, I pray you, with the transgression of your handmaid, for Yahweh does certainly make to my lord a stedfast house; for the battles of Yahweh has my lord fought, and evil is not found in you [all] your days.

¹¹ even from the day that I appointed judges over My people Israel; and I have given rest to you from all your enemies, and Yahweh has declared to you that Yahweh does make for you a house. ¹² `When your days are full, and you have lain with your fathers, then I have raised up your seed after you which goes out from your bowels, and have established his kingdom;" ¹³ He does build a house for My Name, and I have established the throne of his kingdom unto the eon.

²⁷ For You, Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of Israel, You have uncovered the ear of Your servant, saying, A house I build for you, therefore has Your servant found his heart to pray unto You this prayer;" ²⁸ And now, Lord Yahweh, You [are] Elohim Himself, and Your words are truth, and You speak unto Your servant this goodness, ²⁹ And now, begin and bless the house of Your servant, to be unto the eon before You, for You, Lord Yahweh, have spoken, and by Your blessing is the house of Your servant blessed--to the eon..

²⁴ and now, Yahweh lives, who has established me, and causes me to sit on the throne of David my father, and who has made for me an house as He spoke--surely to-day is Adonijah put to death..

³⁸ and it has been, if you do hear all that I command you, and have walked in My ways, and done that which is right in Mine eyes, to keep My statutes and My commands, as did David My servant, that I have been with you, and have built for you a stedfast house, as I built for David, and have given to you Israel,

³ Trust in Yahweh, and do good; Tabernacle in the land, and graze in faithfulness."

¹ {A Song of Ascents, Solomonic{ If Yahweh Himself is not building a house, Its builders toil futilely in it. If Yahweh Himself is not guarding a city, The sentinel is alert futilely."

³ Behold, sons are an allotment from Yahweh; The fruit of the belly is a reward."

³ By wisdom a house is built, And by comprehension it is established."

² `Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and you have spoken with them, and brought them into the house of Yahweh, unto one of the chambers, and caused them to drink wine.'"

¹ And coming is it at the end of two years to a day that Pharaoh dreams and, behold! Standing is he at the waterway.

¹⁶ and said: In your midwifery for the Hebrew women, when you see them on the bracing stones, if it is a son then you will put him to death, and if it is a daughter then she will live.

¹⁹ Then Yahweh said to Moses: Say to Aaron, Take your rod, and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their waterways, over their ponds and over every confluence of their waters that they may become blood. Thus there will come to be blood in all the land of Egypt and in wooden and in stone troughs. ²⁰ Moses and Aaron did so just as Yahweh had instructed; he raised the rod and smote the waters which were in the waterway before the eyes of Pharaoh and before the eyes of his servants. And all the waters which were in the waterway were turned to blood. ²¹ The fish which were in the waterway died, and the waterway stank so that the Egyptians were unable to drink the waters from the waterway. And the blood came to be in all the land of Egypt.

¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, And they hasten to shed blood."

¹⁶ For they cannot sleep until they assuredly do evil, And their sleep is snatched away if they have not caused someone to stumble."

⁴ And the third pours out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water. And it became blood. ⁵ And I hear the messenger of the waters saying, "Just art Thou, Who art, and Who wast, Benign One, seeing that Thou judgest these, ⁶ for they shed the blood of saints and prophets, and Thou dost give them blood to drink, even what they are deserving!"
