¹⁷ Now the appearance of the glory of Yahweh was as a devouring fire on the summit of the mountain, to the eyes of the sons of Israel.

² Then the messenger of Yahweh appeared to him in a blaze of fire from the midst of a thornbush. So he stared, and behold, the thornbush was consuming with fire, yet the thornbush, it was not being devoured.

¹⁸ As for Mount Sinai, all of it smoked in view of the fact that Yahweh descended on it in fire; its smoke ascended as the smoke of a limekiln, and the entire mountain trembled exceedingly.

²⁴ for Yahweh your Elohim, He is a devouring fire, a jealous El.

³⁶ From the heavens He let you hear His voice, to discipline you, and on the earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire.

²⁷ And I see as the color of copper, as the appearance of fire within it round about, from the appearance of his loins and upward, and from the appearance of his loins and downward, I have seen as the appearance of fire, and brightness [is] to it round about."

⁶ Before His menace, who will stand? And who will rise in the heat of His anger? His fury is poured forth as fire, and the rocks are broken down because of Him."

⁴ And its brightness is becoming as the light. From His hand He has gleams, and there is the hiding of His strength." ⁵ Before Him the plague is going, and a sirocco is faring forth at His feet."

¹⁸ For you have not come to that which may be handled and burned with fire, and to murkiness, and gloom, and tornado, and the blare of a trumpet,

²⁹ for our God is also a consuming fire.
