³ Lo, Asshur, a cedar in Lebanon, Fair in branch, and shading bough, and high in stature, And between thickets has its foliage been."

¹⁵ And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth you are anointing me for king over you, come, take refuge in my shadow; and if not--fire comes out from the bramble, and devours the cedars of Lebanon.

³³ Behold the Lord, Yahweh of hosts, forking the foliage with terror! And the high in altitude is He hacking, and the lofty are being abased." ³⁴ And he fells the thickets of the wildwood with iron. The high are falling by the sword, and Lebanon is falling by a noble."

²⁴ By the hand of your servants, your messengers, you reproach my Lord! And saying are you, `With a multitude of my chariots I go up the height of the mountains, the flanks of Lebanon, and I will cut the altitude of its cedars, its choice firs, and I will enter the height of its end, the wildwood of its crop land."

³ and you have said:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:The great eagle, great-winged, long-pinioned, Full of feathers, that has diverse colors, Has come in unto Lebanon, And it takes the foliage of the cedar, ⁴ The top of its tender twigs it has cropped, And it brings it in to the land of Canaan. In a city of merchants it has placed it."

²² Thus said the Lord Yahweh:I have taken of the foliage of the high cedar, And I have set [it], From the top of its tender shoots a tender one I crop, And I--I have planted [it] on a mountain high and lofty."

⁶ In his boughs made a nest has every fowl of the heavens, And under his branches brought forth has every beast of the field, And in his shade dwell do all great nations."

¹⁶ From the sound of his fall I have caused nations to shake, In My causing him to go down to sheol, With those going down to the pit, And comforted in the earth--the lower part, are all trees of Eden, The choice and the good of Lebanon, All drinking waters."

¹⁰ Now the visions of my head on my bed are these:Perceiving am I, and lo, an oak in the midst of the earth, and its height is enormous."

¹² Its leaves are seemly, and its pollination abundant, and sustenance for all is in it. Under it the animal of the field is shaded, and in its boughs are abiding the birds of the heavens, and from it all flesh is having sustenance for itself."

²⁰ The oak that you perceived, that increases and is mighty, and its height is reaching to the heavens, and it is perceptible to the entire earth, ²¹ and its leaves are seemly, and its pollination abundant, and sustenance for all is in it, under it the animal of the field is abiding, and in its boughs are roosting the birds of the heavens--" ²² you it is, O king, seeing that you are increased and mighty, and your grandeur is increased, and reaches to the heavens, and your authority to the extremity of the earth." ²³ And seeing that the king perceived a holy rouser alighting from the heavens and saying, `Slash down the oak and harm it, but the stump with its roots leave in the earth clamped with a band of iron and copper; in the verdure of the field with the night mist of the heavens shall he be streaked; with the animals of the field shall be his portion till seven seasons shall pass on over him'--"

¹ Woe, city of blood! All of it is dissimulation! Full of schism! No one is removing the prey!" ² The sound of a whip, and the sound of the quaking wheel! And the galloping horse, and the dancing chariot, ³ and the horseman mounting up with blazing sword and flashing spear! And the many wounded, and the mass of corpses, and there is no end of the bodies; and they are stumbling among their bodies." ⁴ Because of the many prostitutions of the prostitute, good of grace and possessor of enchantments, who is selling nations by her prostitutions, and families by her enchantments." ⁵ Behold Me against you, (averring is Yahweh, Elohim of hosts). I will roll your skirts over your face, and I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your dishonor." ⁶ I will fling on you abominable things, and I will disgrace you, and I place you as a spectacle." ⁷ And it shall come to be that all seeing you will flit from you and say, Devastated is Nineveh! Who will condole with her? Whence shall I seek comforters for you? ⁸ Are you better than No-Amon, the dweller among the waterways, water round about her, whose rampart is the sea and water is her wall? ⁹ Ethiopia is her staunchness, also Egypt, and there is no end; Phut and Lubim became your help." ¹⁰ Moreover, she was for deportation; she goes into captivity. Moreover, her unweaned children are being dashed to pieces at the head of all the streets, and over all her glorious ones, they handle the lot. And all her great ones are chained with manacles." ¹¹ Moreover, you shall be drunk; you shall become obscure. Moreover, you shall seek a stronghold because of the enemy." ¹² All your fortresses are fig trees with firstfruits:If they be swayed to and fro, then they will fall into the mouth of the eater." ¹³ Behold! your people are women within you; verily the gates of your land are opened to your enemies. Fire devours your bars. ¹⁴ Bail for yourself water for the siege! Repair your fortresses! Come into the mud, and tramp in the crushed straw! Repair the brickwork!" ¹⁵ There the fire shall devour you; the sword shall cut you off. It shall devour you as the grub of the beetle. Make yourself heavy as the grub; make yourself heavy as the locust! ¹⁶ You increase your traders more than the stars of the heavens. The grub strips itself and will fly away. ¹⁷ Your men with insignias are as the locust, and your marshals as the arching caterpillar, the arching caterpillars which are camping in the stone dikes on a cold day. The sun rises, and they flit away, and their place is not known, where they are. Woe to them!" ¹⁸ Your shepherds slumber, king of Assyria! Your nobles are lying down. Your people are diffused on the mountains, and no one is convening them." ¹⁹ There is no dimming of your breaking; your blow is ailing. All hearing the report of you will clasp hands over you, for over whom did not your evil pass continually?

¹³ He will stretch out His hand against the north, and He will destroy Assyria, and He will make Nineveh a desolation, arid as a wilderness."

² Howl, fir tree, for the cedar falls, when the noble ones are devastated. Howl, oaks of Bashan, for the defended wildwood comes down."
