¹ And hearing is Jacob the words of Laban's sons, saying, "Taking is Jacob all which was our father's. And from that which is our father's he makes all this glory.

⁸ If thus he is saying: `The speckled shall be your hire,' then bear do all the flock speckled. And if thus he is saying: `The striped shall be your hire,' then bear do all the flock striped. ⁹ And rescuing is the Elohim the cattle of your father and is giving them to me.

¹³ And tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that you see. And hasten and bring down my father hither.

¹¹ Haman related to them the glory of his riches, his many sons and all about how the king had magnified him and how he had advanced him above all the king's chief officials and courtiers.

²⁴ If I have made gold my confidence, And I have said to pure gold:My trust, ²⁵ If I have rejoiced that my estate is vast And that my hand has found abundance,

³¹ If the men of my tent have never said:Who can be found who has not been satisfied with his flesh?

¹⁴ From such men by Your hand, O Yahweh, From such men of transience; Their portion is in this life, And You fill their belly with what You have stored up; They are satisfied with sons, And they leave their surplus to their descendants."

¹⁶ Do not fear when a man is enriched, When the glory of his house is increased, ¹⁷ For, in his death, he cannot take anything along; His glory shall not descend after him."

⁴ My soul is in the midst of parent-lions; Let me confidently lie among flaming foes, even sons of humanity; Their teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword."

³ Who whet their tongue like a sword; They position their arrow--a bitter word-- ⁴ To shoot at the flawless from concealment. Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

³ What shall He give to you, And what more shall He add for you, Deceitful tongue? ⁴ He will send arrows of the masterful, whetted With glowing embers of broom!" ⁵ Woe to me, for I sojourn in Meshech; I tabernacle among the tents of Kedar."

³⁰ A healing heart is life to the flesh, Yet jealousy is rottenness to the bones."

⁴ Fury is cruel, and anger overwhelming, Yet who can stand before jealousy?

⁴ And I saw all the toil and all the success of the work done, That it was jealousy of one man over his associate; This too is vanity and a grazing on wind."

¹⁴ Wherefore the unseen widens its greedy soul, and gapes its mouth for the decadent dole; and descend does its honorable and its throng, and its tumultuous and joyous into it."

²³ Thus said Yahweh:Let not the wise boast himself in his wisdom, Nor let the mighty boast himself in his might, Let not the rich boast himself in his riches,

⁴⁴ Lo, every one using a simile, Does use a simile concerning you, saying:As the mother--her daughter!"

⁸ Again the Adversary takes Him along into a very high mountain, and is showing Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

⁴ he is conceited, versed in nothing, but morbid about questionings and controversies, out of which is coming envy, strife, calumnies, wicked suspicions,

³ For we also were once foolish, stubborn, deceived, slaves of various desires and gratifications, leading a life in malice and envy, detestable, hating one another."

²⁴ because All flesh is grass, And all its glory is as the flower of grass. Withered is the grass, And the flower falls off..."
