⁷ Mournful is the grape juice; enfeebled is the vine. Sigh does every rejoicing heart. ⁸ Cease does the elation of tambourines. Left off is the tumult of the joyous. Cease does the elation of the harp. ⁹ Ashamed, they are drinking no wine. And the intoxicant is bitter to its drinkers." ¹⁰ Broken is every town--a chaos. Locked is every house against entry. ¹¹ Yelling over the wine is in the streets; the eventide is it for all rejoicing. Deported is all the elation of the land. ¹² And there remains in the city, desolation, and houses, forsaken, perish, and a tumult is pounding the gate."

⁹ Wherefore I will return, and I take My grain in its season and My grape juice in its appointment. And I rescue My wool and My flax given to cover her nakedness."

¹² And I desolate her vine and her fig tree, of which she says, They are a fee for me which my lovers give to me. And I make them a wildwood, and the field life devours them, and the flyer of the heavens and the moving animal of the ground."

³ Concerning it relate to your sons, and your sons to their sons, and their sons to an after generation." ⁴ The leavings of the larva, the locust eats, and the leavings of the locust, the grub of the beetle eats, and the leavings of the grub, the beetle eats." ⁵ Awake, drunkards, from your wine, and lament! And howl, all drinkers of wine, over the juice! For rejoicing and elation is cut off from your mouth." ⁶ For a nation comes up on My land, staunch and numberless; its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and it has fangs of a parent lion." ⁷ It brings My vine to a desolation and My fig to a stripping of bark. Utterly it bares it and flings it away; its intertwining branches are whitened.

⁹ The approach present and the libation are cut off from the house of Yahweh! The priests, ministers of Yahweh's altar, mourn!" ¹⁰ The field is devastated; the ground mourns; for the grain is devastated. The grape juice is dried; the clarified oil is enfeebled. ¹¹ Be ashamed, farmers! Howl, vineyardists! Over the wheat and over the barley, for the harvest of the field perishes." ¹² The vine is dried, and the fig tree is enfeebled. The pomegranate, moreover the palm and the apricot--all the trees of the field are dry, for elation is dried from the sons of humanity." ¹³ Gird sackcloth, and wail, priests! Howl, ministers of the altar! Come! Lodge in sackcloth, ministers of my Elohim. For the approach present and the libation are withheld from the house of your Elohim."

⁵ And fume incense with leaven as acclamation, and proclaim the voluntary vows! Announce it, for so you love, sons of Israel, (averring is my Lord Yahweh)." ⁶ And, moreover, I give you teeth innocent of food in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places. Yet you do not return unto Me, (averring is Yahweh)." ⁷ And, moreover, I withhold from you the downpour, while still three months to harvest, and I cause rain on one city, and on another city I am not causing rain; one portion was rained upon, and the portion upon which I am not causing rain is drying up." ⁸ And two or three cities rove to one city to drink water, yet they are not satisfied. Yet you do not return unto Me, (averring is Yahweh)." ⁹ I smite you with blasting and with green mold. The increase of your gardens and your vineyards and your figs and your olives, the larva of the locust is devouring. Yet you do not return unto Me, (averring is Yahweh)." ¹⁰ I send among you a plague in the way as in Egypt. I kill your chosen men by the sword, with the captivity of your horses, and I am making the stink of your camp ascend even in your nose. Yet you do not return unto Me, (averring is Yahweh)." ¹¹ I overturn among you as Elohim overturned Sodom and Gomorrah, and you are becoming as a wooden poker rescued from the burning. Yet you do not return unto Me, (averring is Yahweh)."

¹³ And, moreover, I start to smite you, to desolate you on account of your sins." ¹⁴ You shall eat and not be satisfied, and darkness shall be within you. And you shall turn away and not retrieve, and that which you are delivering, I will give to the sword." ¹⁵ You shall sow, yet not reap. You shall tread olives, yet not rub with oil, and grape juice, yet you shall not drink wine." ¹⁶ They are keeping the statutes of Omri, and every deed of the house of Ahab; and you are going in their counsels, that I may give you up to desolation, and its dwellers to hissing, and you shall bear the reproach of My people."

⁹ You face about for increase, and behold it is little! Yet you bring it home, and I blow on it. Because of what? (averring is Yahweh of hosts). Because of My house! It is deserted, yet you are running, each to his own house!"
