And Gedaliah son of Ahikam has not given to them credence." 15 And Johanan son of Kareah has spoken unto Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, `Let me go, I pray you, and I smite Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one does know; why does he smite your soul? and scattered have been all Judah who are gathered unto you, and perished has the remnant of Judah.'" 16 And Gedaliah son of Ahikam said unto Johanan son of Kareah, `You do not do this thing, for falsehood you are speaking concerning Ishmael.'"

Fear [is] round about--an affirmation of Yahweh." 6 The swift do not flee, nor do the mighty escape, Northward, by the side of the river Phrat, They have stumbled and fallen." 7 Who is this? as a flood he comes up, As rivers do his waters shake themselves!" 8 Egypt, as a flood comes up, And as rivers the waters shake themselves. And he said, I go up; I cover the land, I destroy the city and the inhabitants in it." 9 Go up, you horses; and boast yourselves, you chariots, And go forth, you mighty, Cush and Phut handling the shield, And Lud handling--treading the bow." 10 And that day [is] to the Lord Yahweh of Hosts A day of vengeance, To be avenged of His adversaries, And the sword has devoured, and been satisfied, And it has been watered from their blood, For a sacrifice [is] to the Lord Yahweh of Hosts, In the land of the north, by the river Phrat." 11 Go up to Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt, In vain you have multiplied medicines, Healing there is none for you." 12 Nations have heard of your shame, And your cry has filled the land, For the mighty on the mighty did stumble, Together they have fallen--both of them!'" 13 The word that Yahweh has spoken unto Jeremiah the prophet concerning the coming in of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, to smite the land of Egypt:" 14 `Declare you in Egypt, and sound in Migdol, Yea, sound in Noph, and in Tahpanhes say:Station yourself, yea, prepare for you, For a sword has devoured around you,

Ezekiel 4:1-5:17

1 `And you, son of man, take to you a brick, and you have put it before you, and have graven on it a city--Jerusalem, 2 and have placed against it a siege, and builded against it a fortification, and poured out against it a mount, and placed against it camps, yea, set you against it battering-rams round about." 3 And you, take to you an iron pan, and you have made it a wall of iron between you and the city; and you have prepared your face against it, and it has been in a siege, yea, you have laid siege against it. A sign it [is] to the house of Israel." 4 `And you, lie on your left side, and you have placed the iniquity of the house of Israel on it; the number of the days that you lie on it, you bear their iniquity." 5 And I--I have laid on you the years of their iniquity, the number of days, three hundred and ninety days; and you have borne the iniquity of the house of Israel." 6 And you have completed these, and have lain on your right side, a second time, and have borne the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days--a day for a year--a day for a year I have appointed to you." 7 `And unto the siege of Jerusalem you do prepare your face, and your arm [is] uncovered, and you have prophesied concerning it." 8 And lo, I have put on you thick bands, and you do not turn from side to side till your completing the days of your siege." 9 `And you, take to you wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentiles, and millet, and spelt, and you have put them in one vessel, and made them to you for bread; the number of the days that you are lying on your side--three hundred and ninety days--you do eat it." 10 And your food that you do eat [is] by weight, twenty shekels daily; from time to time you do eat it." 11 `And water by measure you do drink, a sixth part of the hin; from time to time you do drink [it]." 12 A barley-cake you do eat it, and it with dung--the filth of man--you do bake before their eyes." 13 And Yahweh said, `Thus do the sons of Israel eat their defiled bread among the nations whither I drive them.'" 14 And I say, `Ah, Lord Yahweh, lo, my soul is not defiled, and carcase, and torn thing, I have not eaten from my youth, even till now; nor come into my mouth has abominable flesh.'" 15 And He said unto me, `See, I have given to you bullock's dung instead of man's dung, and you have made your bread by it.'" 16 And He said unto me, `Son of man, lo, I am breaking the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they have eaten bread by weight and with fear; and water by measure and with astonishment, they do drink;" 17 so that they lack bread and water, and have been astonished one with another, and been consumed in their iniquity."
