¹ And the heads of the fathers of the Levites draw nigh unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, ² and they speak unto them in Shiloh, in the land of Canaan, saying, `Yahweh commanded by the hand of Moses to give to us cities to dwell in, and their suburbs for our cattle.. ³ And the sons of Israel give to the Levites, out of their inheritance, at the command of Yahweh, these cities and their suburbs. ⁴ And the lot goes out for the families of the Kohathite, and there are for the sons of Aaron the priest (of the Levites), out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, by lot thirteen cities, ⁵ and for the sons of Kohath who are left, out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, by lot ten cities. ⁶ And for the sons of Gershon [are], out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, by lot, thirteen cities. ⁷ For the sons of Merari, for their families, [are], out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. ⁸ And the sons of Israel give to the Levites these cities and their suburbs, as Yahweh commanded by the hand of Moses, by lot. ⁹ And they give out of the tribe of the sons of Judah, and out of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, these cities which are called by name;" ¹⁰ and they are for the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathite, of the sons of Levi, for theirs has been the first lot;" ¹¹ and they give to them the city of Arba father of Anak (it [is] Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah, and its suburbs round about it;" ¹² and the field of the city and its villages they have given to Caleb son of Jephunneh for his possession. ¹³ And to the sons of Aaron the priest they have given the city of refuge [for] the man-slayer, Hebron and its suburbs, and Libnah and its suburbs, ¹⁴ and Jattir and its suburbs, and Eshtemoa and its suburbs, ¹⁵ and Holon and its suburbs, and Debir and its suburbs, ¹⁶ and Ain and its suburbs, and Juttah and its suburbs, Beth-Shemesh and its suburbs; nine cities out of these two tribes. ¹⁷ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon and its suburbs, Geba and its suburbs, ¹⁸ Anathoth and its suburbs, and Almon and its suburbs--four cities;" ¹⁹ all the cities of the sons of Aaron the priests, [are] thirteen cities and their suburbs. ²⁰ And for the families of the sons of Kohath, the Levites, who are left of the sons of Kohath, even the cities of their lot are of the tribe of Ephraim;" ²¹ and they give to them the city of refuge [for] the man-slayer, Shechem and its suburbs, in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Gezer and its suburbs, ²² and Kibzaim and its suburbs, and Beth-Horon and its suburbs--four cities. ²³ And out of the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh and its suburbs, Gibbethon and its suburbs, ²⁴ Aijalon and its suburbs, Gath-Rimmon and its suburbs--four cities. ²⁵ And out of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, Taanach and its suburbs, and Gath-Rimmon and its suburbs--two cities;" ²⁶ all the cities [are] ten and their suburbs, for the families of the sons of Kohath who are left. ²⁷ And for the sons of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, the city of refuge [for] the man-slayer, Golan in Bashan and its suburbs, and Beeshterah and its suburbs--two cities. ²⁸ And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishon and its suburbs, Dabarath and its suburbs, ²⁹ Jarmuth and its suburbs, En-Gannim and its suburbs--four cities. ³⁰ And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal and its suburbs, Abdon and its suburbs, ³¹ Helkath and its suburbs, and Rehob and its suburbs--four cities. ³² And out of the tribe of Naphtali, the city of refuge [for] the man-slayer, Kedesh in Galilee and its suburbs, and Hammoth-Dor and its suburbs, and Kartan and its suburbs--three cities;" ³³ all the cities of the Gershonite, for their families, [are] thirteen cities and their suburbs. ³⁴ And for the families of the sons of Merari, the Levites, who are left, [are,] out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam and its suburbs, Kartah and its suburbs, ³⁵ Dimnah and its suburbs, Nahalal and its suburbs--four cities. ³⁶ And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer and its suburbs, and Jahazah and its suburbs, ³⁷ Kedemoth and its suburbs, and Mephaath and its suburbs--four cities. ³⁸ And out of the tribe of Gad, the city of refuge [for] the man-slayer, Ramoth in Gilead and its suburbs, and Mahanaim and its suburbs, ³⁹ Heshbon and its suburbs, Jazer and its suburbs--[in] all four cities. ⁴⁰ All the cities for the sons of Merari, for their families, who are left of the families of the Levites--their lot is twelve cities. ⁴¹ All the cities of the Levites in the midst of the possession of the sons of Israel [are] forty and eight cities, and their suburbs. ⁴² These cities are each city and its suburbs round about it; so to all these cities. ⁴³ And Yahweh gives to Israel the whole of the land which He has sworn to give to their fathers, and they possess it, and dwell in it;" ⁴⁴ and Yahweh gives rest to them round about, according to all that which He has sworn to their fathers, and there has not stood a man in their presence of all their enemies, the whole of their enemies has Yahweh given into their hand;" ⁴⁵ there has not fallen a thing of all the good thing which Yahweh spoke unto the house of Israel--the whole has come.

¹⁴ These are the heads of their fathers' house: The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, are Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben.

²⁵ Eleazar, son of Aaron, took to himself one from the daughters of Putiel as his wife; and she bore for him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.

¹⁷ These are the names of the men who shall allot the land to you:Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun, ¹⁸ and one prince, one prince from each stock, shall you take to allot the land. ¹⁹ And these are the names of the men:for the stock of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;" ²⁰ for the stock of the sons of Simeon, Samuel son of Ammihud;" ²¹ for the stock of Benjamin, Elidad son of Chislon;" ²² for the stock of the sons of Dan, prince Bukki son of Jogli;" ²³ for the sons of Joseph:for the stock of the sons of Manasseh, prince Hanniel son of Ephod, ²⁴ for the stock of the sons of Ephraim, prince Kemuel son of Shiphtan;" ²⁵ for the stock of the sons of Zebulun, prince Elizaphan son of Parnach;" ²⁶ for the stock of the sons of Issachar, prince Paltiel son of Azzan;" ²⁷ for the stock of the sons of Asher, prince Ahihud son of Shelomi;" ²⁸ and for the stock of the sons of Naphtali, prince Pedahel son of Ammihud. ²⁹ These are those whom Yahweh had instructed to make the allotment to the sons of Israel in the land of Canaan.

¹ And these [are] they [of] the sons of Israel who inherited in the land of Canaan, whom Eleazar the priest, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, caused to inherit;"

⁴ and they draw near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, `Yahweh commanded Moses to give to us an inheritance in the midst of our brethren;' and he gives to them, at the command of Yahweh, an inheritance in the midst of the brethren of their father.

⁵¹ These [are] the inheritances which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, have caused to inherit by lot, in Shiloh, before Yahweh, at the opening of the tent of meeting; and they finish to apportion the land.

² Instruct the sons of Israel so that they give to the Levites, from the allotment of their holding, cities to dwell in; and by the cities, common pasture land around them shall you give to the Levites. ³ The cities will be theirs to dwell in, and their common lands shall be for their domestic beasts, for their goods and for all their animals. ⁴ The common lands of the cities which you shall give to the Levites will extend from the sidewall of the city outward a thousand cubits round about. ⁵ You will measure off outside the city on the eastward edge two thousand cubits, on the southward edge two thousand cubits, on the western edge two thousand cubits and on the northern edge two thousand cubits with the city in the middle. This shall be their common lands for the cities. ⁶ And of the cities which you shall give to the Levites six will be asylum cities which you shall give for the manslayer to flee there. And along with them you shall give forty-two other cities. ⁷ All the cities which you shall give to the Levites will be forty-eight cities, these and their common pasture lands. ⁸ And the cities which you shall give will be from the holding of the sons of Israel:from the numerous one you shall increase and from the little one you shall decrease; each tribe according to the bidding of its allotment which they are allotting shall give from its cities to the Levites.

¹ And all the company of the sons of Israel are assembled [at] Shiloh, and they cause the tent of meeting to tabernacle there, and the land has been subdued before them.

⁹ The heave-offering that you lift up to Yahweh [is] five and twenty thousand long, and broad ten thousand." ¹⁰ And of these is the holy heave-offering for the priests, northward five and twenty thousand, and westward [in] breadth ten thousand, and eastward [in] breadth ten thousand, and southward [in] length five and twenty thousand:and the sanctuary of Yahweh has been in its midst." ¹¹ For the priests who are sanctified of the sons of Zadok, who have kept My charge, who erred not in the erring of the sons of Israel, as the Levites erred, ¹² even the heave-offering has been to them, out of the heave-offering of the land, most holy, by the border of the Levites." ¹³ `And [to] the Levites over-against the border of the priests [are] five and twenty thousand [in] length, and [in] breadth ten thousand, all the length [is] five and twenty thousand, and the breadth ten thousand." <sup>14</sup> And they do not sell of it, nor exchange, nor cause to pass away the first-fruit of the land:for [it is] holy to Yahweh." <sup>15</sup> And the five thousand that is left in the breadth, on the front of the five and twenty thousand, is common--for the city, for dwelling, and for suburb, and the city has been in its midst." <sup>16</sup> And these [are] its measures:the north side five hundred, and four thousand, and the south side five hundred, and four thousand, and on the east side five hundred, and four thousand, and the west side five hundred, and four thousand." <sup>17</sup> And the suburb to the city has been northward, fifty and two hundred, and southward, fifty and two hundred, and eastward, fifty and two hundred, and westward, fifty and two hundred." <sup>18</sup> `And the residue in length over-against the heave-offering of the holy [portion is] ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward, and it has been over-against the heave-offering of the holy [portion], and its increase has been for food to the servants of the city,

¹⁰ Nor yet two tunics, nor yet sandals, nor yet a club; for worthy is the worker of his nourishment."

⁶ Now let him who is being instructed in the word be contributing to him who is instructing, in all good things."

¹⁷ Let elders who have presided ideally be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who are toiling in word and teaching, ¹⁸ for the scripture is saying: "A threshing ox you shall not be muzzling,and "Worthy is the worker of his wages."

⁷ Cursed is their anger, for it was strong. And their rage, for it was obstinate. Apportion them will I in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

⁸ About Levi he said:May your Thummim and your Urim be for your benign man whom you probed at Massah; you contended with him at the waters of Meribah, ⁹ the one saying of his father and of his mother:I do not see them, and he neither recognized his brothers, nor did he know his sons. For they observed Your sayings and preserved Your covenant. ¹⁰ They shall direct Your judgments for Jacob, and Your law for Israel. They shall bring incense to Your nostrils and a holocaust on Your altar.

⁵⁴ And these [are] their dwellings, throughout their towers, in their borders, of the sons of Aaron, of the family of the Kohathite, for theirs was the lot;" ⁵⁵ and they give to them Hebron in the land of Judah and its suburbs round about it; ⁵⁶ and the field of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh. ⁵⁷ And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge:Hebron, and Libnah and its suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa and its suburbs, ⁵⁸ and Hilen and its suburbs, Debir and its suburbs, ⁵⁹ and Ashan and its suburbs, and Beth-Shemesh and its suburbs. ⁶⁰ And from the tribe of Benjamin, Geba and its suburbs, and Allemeth and its suburbs, and Anathoth and its suburbs. ³³ And Eleazar son of Aaron died, and they bury him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him in the hill-country of Ephraim.

¹⁶ These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their genealogical annals: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were a hundred thirty-seven years. ¹⁷ The sons of Gershon are Libni and Shimei, according to their families. ¹⁸ The sons of Kohath are Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were a hundred thirty-three years. ¹⁹ The sons of Merari are Mahli and Mushi. These are the Levite families according to their genealogical annals. ²⁰ Amram took Jochebed, his aunt, as his wife; and she bore for him Aaron, Moses and Miriam, their sister. And the years of the life of Amram were a hundred thirty-seven years. ²¹ The sons of Izhar are Korah, Nepheg and Zichri. ²² The sons of Uzziel are Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri. ²³ Aaron took Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, as his wife; and she bore for him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ²⁴ The sons of Korah are Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These are the Korahite families. ²⁵ Eleazar, son of Aaron, took to himself one from the daughters of Putiel as his wife; and she bore for him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.

²⁷ Belonging to Kohath were the Amramite family, the Izharite family, the Hebronite family and the Uzzielite family. These were those of the Kohathite families.

² So the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and spoke to Moses, to Eleazar the priest and to the princes of the congregation, saying.

⁵⁴ And you will entail the land by lot, by your families. For the numerous one you shall increase his allotment, and for the little one you shall decrease his allotment. Whenever the lot comes forth for him it shall be his. By the stocks of your fathers shall you entail among yourselves.

³ The cities will be theirs to dwell in, and their common lands shall be for their domestic beasts, for their goods and for all their animals.

⁶ and you describe the land [in] seven portions, and have brought [it] in unto me hither, and I have cast for you a lot here before Yahweh our Elohim;"

³ And the sons of Israel give to the Levites, out of their inheritance, at the command of Yahweh, these cities and their suburbs.

³³ It is the lot that is cast forth in the bosom; Yet from Yahweh is its every judgment.

¹⁸ Casting the lot causes quarrels to cease, And keeps staunch foes apart."

¹³ And to the sons of Aaron the priest they have given the city of refuge [for] the man-slayer, Hebron and its suburbs, and Libnah and its suburbs, ¹⁴ and Jattir and its suburbs, and Eshtemoa and its suburbs, ¹⁵ and Holon and its suburbs, and Debir and its suburbs, ¹⁶ and Ain and its suburbs, and Juttah and its suburbs, Beth-Shemesh and its suburbs; nine cities out of these two tribes. ¹⁷ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon and its suburbs, Geba and its suburbs, ¹⁸ Anathoth and its suburbs, and Almon and its suburbs--four cities;"

⁶⁵ And they give by lot from the tribe of the sons of Judah, and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon, and from the tribe of the sons of Benjamin, these cities which they call by name;"

¹⁸ The sons of Kohath are Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were a hundred thirty-three years.

²⁰ Amram took Jochebed, his aunt, as his wife; and she bore for him Aaron, Moses and Miriam, their sister. And the years of the life of Amram were a hundred thirty-seven years. ²¹ The sons of Izhar are Korah, Nepheg and Zichri. ²² The sons of Uzziel are Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri. ²³ Aaron took Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, as his wife; and she bore for him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ²⁴ The sons of Korah are Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These are the Korahite families. ²⁵ Eleazar, son of Aaron, took to himself one from the daughters of Putiel as his wife; and she bore for him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families. ²⁶ This Aaron and this Moses are those to whom Yahweh said: Bring forth the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, according to their hosts.

² And these were the names of the sons of Aaron:the firstborn Nadab, then Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ³ These were the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed priests, whose hands he filled to serve as priests. ⁴ Yet Nadab and Abihu died before Yahweh when they brought near alien fire before Yahweh in the wilderness of Sinai. They did not come to have sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests in the presence of Aaron their father.

¹⁹ and the sons of Kohath by their families:Amram and Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel;"

² You are to obtain the sum of the sons of Kohath from the midst of the sons of Levi by their families, by their fathers' house,

⁴ And the lot goes out for the families of the Kohathite, and there are for the sons of Aaron the priest (of the Levites), out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, by lot thirteen cities,

² And dying is Sarah in the town of Arba, in the vale. (It is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.) And coming is Abraham to wail over Sarah and to lament for her.

²⁷ And coming is Jacob to Isaac, his father, to Mamre, the town of Arba (It is now Hebron), in the land of Canaan, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

¹⁵ and the name of Hebron formerly [is] Kirjath-Arba (he [is] the great man among the Anakim); and the land has rest from war.

¹³ And to Caleb son of Jephunneh has he given a portion in the midst of the sons of Judah, according to the command of Yahweh to Joshua, [even] the city of Arba, father of Anak--it [is] Hebron. ¹⁴ And Caleb is dispossessing thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, children of Anak,

⁵⁴ and Humtah, and Kirjath-Arba (it [is] Hebron), and Zior; nine cities and their villages.

⁷ And they sanctify Kedesh in Galilee, in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba (it [is] Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah;" ⁸ and beyond the Jordan, [at] Jericho eastward, they have given Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. ⁹ These have been cities of meeting for all the sons of Israel, and for a sojourner who is sojourning in their midst, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting life inadvertently, and he does not die by the hand of the redeemer of blood till his standing before the company.

¹⁰ and Judah goes unto the Canaanite who is dwelling in Hebron (and the name of Hebron formerly [is] Kirjath-Arba), and they smite Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

¹ And it comes to pass afterwards, that David asks at Yahweh, saying, `Do I go up into one of the cities of Judah?' and Yahweh said unto him, `Go up.' And David said, `Whither do I go up?' and He said, `To Hebron.. ² And David goes up thither, and also his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite;" ³ and his men who [are] with him has David brought up--a man and his household--and they dwell in the cities of Hebron.

¹ And all the tribes of Israel come unto David, to Hebron, and speak, saying, `Lo, we [are] your bone and your flesh;" ² also heretofore, in Saul's being king over us, you have been he who is bringing out and bringing in Israel, and Yahweh said to you, You do feed My people Israel, and you are for leader over Israel.. ³ And all the elders of Israel come unto the king, to Hebron, and king David makes with them a covenant in Hebron before Yahweh, and they anoint David for king over Israel. ⁴ A son of thirty years [is] David in his being king; forty years he has reigned; ⁵ in Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years, over all Israel and Judah.

⁷ And it comes to pass, at the end of forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, `Let me go, I pray you, and I complete my vow, that I vowed to Yahweh in Hebron,

⁵⁵ and they give to them Hebron in the land of Judah and its suburbs round about it;

³⁹ Now in these days, Miriam, rising, went with diligence into the mountainous region, into a city of Judah."

¹³ And Joshua blesses him, and gives Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance, ¹⁴ therefore has Hebron been to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite for an inheritance unto this day, because that he was fully after Yahweh, Elohim of Israel;" ¹⁵ and the name of Hebron formerly [is] Kirjath-Arba (he [is] the great man among the Anakim); and the land has rest from war.

⁵⁵ and they give to them Hebron in the land of Judah and its suburbs round about it; ⁵⁶ and the field of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh. ⁵⁷ And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge:Hebron, and Libnah and its suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa and its suburbs,

⁶ And of the cities which you shall give to the Levites six will be asylum cities which you shall give for the manslayer to flee there. And along with them you shall give forty-two other cities.

²⁹ And Joshua passes over, and all Israel with him, from Makkedah [to] Libnah, and fights with Libnah;"

⁴² Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan,

⁷ And they sanctify Kedesh in Galilee, in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba (it [is] Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah;"

⁸ And the grand cupbearer is returning and finding the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah, for he had heard that he had decamped from Lachish."

⁴⁸ And in the hill-country:Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh,

⁵⁰ and Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim,

²⁷ to those in Beth-El, and to those in South Ramoth, and to those in Jattir, ²⁸ and to those in Aroer, and to those in Siphmoth, and to those in Eshtemoa,

¹³ The king of Debir, one; The king of Geder, one;"

⁴⁹ and Dannah, and Kirjath-Sannah (it [is] Debir.

⁵¹ and Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities and their villages.

⁵⁸ and Hilen and its suburbs, Debir and its suburbs,

¹⁰ and the border has gone round from Baalah westward, unto mount Seir, and passed over unto the side of mount Jearim (it [is] Chesalon), on the north, and gone down [to] Beth-Shemesh, and passed over to Timnah;"

⁵⁵ Maon, Carmel, and Ziph, and Juttah,

⁹ and you have seen, if the way of its own border it goes up to Beth-Shemesh--He has done to us this great evil; and if not, then we have known that His hand has not come against us; an accident it has been to us..

¹² And the kine go straight in the way, on the way to Beth-Shemesh, in one highway they have gone, going and lowing, and have not turned aside right or left; and the princes of the Philistines are going after them unto the border of Beth-Shemesh.

⁵⁹ and Ashan and its suburbs, and Beth-Shemesh and its suburbs.

³ And the inhabitants of Gibeon have heard that which Joshua has done to Jericho and to Ai,

²⁴ and Chephar-Haammonai, and Ophni, and Gaba; twelve cities and their villages. ²⁵ Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,

⁶⁰ And from the tribe of Benjamin, Geba and its suburbs, and Allemeth and its suburbs, and Anathoth and its suburbs. All their cities [are] thirteen cities, for their families.

²⁶ And to Abiathar the priest said the king, `To Anathoth go, unto your fields; for a man of death you [are], but in this day I do not put you to death, because you have borne the ark of the Lord Yahweh before David my father, and because you wast afflicted in all that my father was afflicted in..

³⁰ Shrill your voice, daughter of Gallim! Attend, Laish! Respond, Anathoth!"

¹ Words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, of the priests who [are] in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin,

⁵ and for the sons of Kohath who are left, out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half of the tribe of Manasseh, by lot ten cities.

⁶⁶ and some of the families of the sons of Kohath have cities of their border from the tribe of Ephraim;

¹⁹ And acquiring is he a portion of the field where his tent is stretched out, from the hand of the sons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for a hundred coins, sterling.

¹⁰ and they have not dispossessed the Canaanite who is dwelling in Gezer, and the Canaanite dwells in the midst of Ephraim unto this day, and is to tribute--a servant.

¹ and Abimelech son of Jerubbaal goes to Shechem, unto his mother's brethren, and speaks unto them, and unto all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

¹⁵ And this [is] the matter of the tribute that king Solomon has lifted up, to build the house of Yahweh, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer, ¹⁶ (Pharaoh king of Egypt has gone up and does capture Gezer, and does burn it with fire, and the Canaanite who is dwelling in the city he has slain, and gives it [with] presents to his daughter, wife of Solomon.. ¹⁷ And Solomon builds Gezer, and Beth-Horon the lower,

¹ And Rehoboam goes to Shechem, for to Shechem has all Israel come to make him king.

⁶⁷ and they give to them the cities of refuge, Shechem and its suburbs in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Gezer and its suburbs,

³ and gone down westward unto the border of Japhleti, unto the border of Beth-Horon the lower, and unto Gezer, and its outgoings have been at the sea.

⁵ And the border of the sons of Ephraim is by their families; and the border of their inheritance is on the east, Atroth-Addar unto Beth-Horon the upper;"

¹³ and the border has gone over thence to Luz, unto the side of Luz (it [is] Beth-El) southward, and the border has gone down [to] Atroth-Addar, by the hill that [is] on the south of the lower Beth-Horon;" ¹⁴ and the border has been marked out, and has gone round to the corner of the sea southward, from the hill which [is] at the front of Beth-Horon southward, and its outgoings have been unto Kirjath-Baal (it [is] Kirjath-Jearim), a city of the sons of Judah:this [is] the west quarter.

⁶⁸ and Jokmeam and its suburbs, and Beth-Horan and its suburbs,

⁴⁴ and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath, ⁴⁵ and Jehud, and Bene-Barak, and Gath-Rimmon,

¹² Then speaks Joshua to Yahweh in the day of Yahweh's giving up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said, before the eyes of Israel, `Sun--in Gibeon stand still; and moon--in the valley of Ajalon;.

⁴² and Shalabbin, and Aijalon, and Jethlah,

⁶⁹ and Aijalon and its suburbs, and Gath-Rimmon and its suburbs;"

¹¹ And Manasseh has in Issachar and in Asher, Beth-Shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, three counties.

¹⁹ Kings came--they fought; Then fought kings of Canaan, In Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo; Gain of money they took not!"

⁴ after his smiting Sihon king of the Amorite (who was dwelling in Heshbon) and Og king of Bashan (who was dwelling in Astaroth) at Edrei.

⁴³ Bezer in the wilderness in the tableland country for the Reubenite, and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadite, and Golan in Bashan for the Manassite.

⁸ and beyond the Jordan, [at] Jericho eastward, they have given Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

⁷¹ To the sons of Gershom from the family of the half of the tribe of Manasseh [are] Golan in Bashan and its suburbs, and Ashtaroth and its suburbs;"

¹² and turned back from Sarid eastward, at the sun-rising, by the border of Chisloth-Tabor, and gone out unto Daberath, and gone up to Japhia,

⁷² and from the tribe of Issachar; Kedesh and its suburbs, Daberath and its suburbs, ⁷³ and Ramoth and its suburbs, and Anem and its suburbs;"

³ And Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sends unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

²³ and they do so, and bring out unto him these five kings from the cave:the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon.

¹¹ The king of Jarmuth, one; The king of Lachish, one;"

²⁵ and their border is Helkath, and Hali, and Beten, and Achshaph, ²⁶ and Alammelech, and Amad, and Misheal; and it touches against Carmel westward, and against Shihor-Libnath;" ²⁷ and has turned back, at the sun-rising, [to] Beth-Dagon, and come against Zebulun, and against the valley of Jiphthah-El toward the north of Beth-Emek, and Neiel, and has gone out unto Cabul on the left, ²⁸ and Hebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Kanah, unto great Zidon;"

⁷⁴ and from the tribe of Asher; Mashal and its suburbs, and Abdon and its suburbs, ⁷⁵ and Hukok and its suburbs, and Rehob and its suburbs;"

³¹ Asher has not dispossessed the inhabitants of Accho, and the inhabitants of Zidon, and Ahlab, and Achzib, and Helbah, and Aphik, and Rehob;"

²¹ and they turn and go, and put the infants, and the cattle, and the baggage, before them.

⁷⁵ and Hukok and its suburbs, and Rehob and its suburbs;"

³⁵ and the cities of defence [are] Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Chinnereth,

³⁷ and Kedesh, and Edrei, and En-Hazor,

⁷⁶ and from the tribe of Naphtali:Kedesh in Galilee and its suburbs, and Hammon and its suburbs, and Kirjathaim and its suburbs.

²² The king of Kedesh, one; The king of Jokneam of Carmel, one;"

¹¹ and their border has gone up towards the sea, and Maralah, and come against Dabbasheth, and come unto the brook which [is] on the front of Jokneam,

¹⁵ and Kattath, and Nahallal, and Shimron, and Idalah, and Beth-Lehem; twelve cities and their villages.

⁷ For the sons of Merari, for their families, [are], out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

⁷⁷ To the sons of Merari who are left, from the tribe of Zebulun, [are] Rimmon and its suburbs, Tabor and its suburbs;"

²³ Yet Sihon would not allow Israel to cross over at his boundary. Sihon gathered all his people and went forth to meet Israel toward the wilderness. He came to Jahaz and fought against Israel.

¹⁸ and Jahazah, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

⁷⁸ and from beyond the Jordan by Jericho, at the east of the Jordan, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness and its suburbs, and Jahzah and its suburbs, ⁷⁹ and Kedemoth and its suburbs, and Mephaath and its suburbs;"

² And saying is Jacob as he sees them, "The camp of the Elohim is this!"And calling is he the name of that place Mahanaim.

²⁴ And David came to Mahanaim, and Absalom passed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him;"

³² and Barzillai [is] very aged, a son of eighty years, and he has sustained the king in his abiding in Mahanaim, for he [is] a very great man;"

³ and the king of Israel said unto his servants, `Have you not known that ours [is] Ramoth-Gilead? and we are keeping silent from taking it out of the hand of the king of Aram!.

⁸⁰ and from the tribe of Gad:Ramoth in Gilead and its suburbs, and Mahanaim and its suburbs,

²⁶ for Heshbon, it was a city of Sihon king of the Amorite. He had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken all his land from his hand as far as the Arnon. ²⁷ Therefore those discoursers say:Come to Heshbon, let it be rebuilt, and let the city of Sihon establish itself. ²⁸ For a fire came forth from Heshbon, a blaze from the town of Sihon. It devoured Ar of Moab, the possessors of the fane heights of Arnon. ²⁹ Woe to you, Moab! You have perished, people of Chemosh! He gave up his sons delivered from slaughter, and his daughters into captivity to Sihon, king of the Amorite. ³⁰ We shot them; Heshbon perished as far as Dibon; we caused desolation until the fire was blown as far as Medeba.

¹ The abundance of cattle which the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had came to be very substantial. Now they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for cattle.

³ Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Shebam, Nebo and Beon,

³⁵ Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah,

³⁷ As for the sons of Reuben, they rebuilt Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim,

¹⁷ Heshbon, and all its cities which [are] in the plain, Dibon, and Bamoth-Baal, and Beth-Baal-Meon,

²¹ and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote, with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, princes of Sihon, inhabitants of the land.

⁸¹ and Heshbon and its suburbs, and Jazer and its suburbs.

⁸ over the plantations of Heshbon. Enfeebled is the vine of Sibmah. The swallowers of nations have hammered down its vines. They touched unto Jazer. They have strayed into the wilderness. Its runners are let go. They pass the sea. ⁹ Therefore, I will lament with the lamentation of Jazer, for the vine of Sibmah. I will soak you with my tears, Heshbon and Elealeh, for, on your summer and on your harvest, devastation falls."

³² With the weeping of Jazer, I weep for you, O vine of Sibmah, Your branches have passed over a sea, Unto the sea of Jazer they have come, On your summer fruits, and on your harvest, A spoiler has fallen."

¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab along the Jordan across from Jericho, saying.

¹⁰ They shall direct Your judgments for Jacob, and Your law for Israel. They shall bring incense to Your nostrils and a holocaust on Your altar.

⁷ And appearing is Yahweh to Abram and is saying to him, "To your seed am I giving this land.And building is Abram there an altar to Yahweh, Who appeared to him.

¹⁵ for all the land which you are seeing, to you am I giving it, and to your seed, till the eon.

¹³ And saying is He to Abram, "Knowing, yea, knowing are you that a sojourner is your seed to become in a land not theirs, and they are to serve them. Yet evil shall they do to them and humiliate them four hundred years. ¹⁴ Moreover, also, the nation which they are serving will I adjudicate. And afterward they are to fare forth hither with great goods. ¹⁵ Yet you shall come to your forefathers in peace, and be entombed at a good grey-haired age. ¹⁶ And in the fourth generation they shall return hither, for the depravity of the Amorites has not been repaid hitherto. ¹⁷ When the sun comes to set, and twilight comes, then, behold, a smoking stove, and a torch of fire which passes between these severed parts. ¹⁸ In that day Yahweh contracted a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your seed I give this land, from the stream of Egypt as far as the great stream, the stream Euphrates, ¹⁹ the Cainite and the Kenizite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hivite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.

³ Sojourn in this land, and I come to be with you and will bless you. For to you and to your seed will I give all these lands, and carry out will I the oath which I swore to Abraham, your father. ⁴ And increase will I your seed as the stars of the heavens, and give will I to your seed all these lands. And blessed, in your seed, are all the nations of the earth,

⁴ And give to you will he the blessing of Abraham, my father, to you and to your seed with you, for you to tenant the land of your sojournings, given by the Elohim to Abraham.

¹³ And behold! Yahweh is stationed on it. And saying is He, "I am Yahweh, the Elohim of Abraham, your forefather, and the Elohim of Isaac. Do not fear. The land on which you are lying, to you will I give it, and to your seed. ¹⁴ And become shall your seed as the soil of the land. And breach forth will you seaward and eastward and northward and toward the south-rim. And blessed, in you, are all the families of the ground, and in your seed.

⁸ Hence I have descended to rescue them from the hand of Egypt and to bring them up from that land to a land good and wide, to a land gushing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.

²⁷ I shall send the dread of Me before you, I will discomfit all the people against whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn the nape of their necks to you. ²⁸ I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite and the Hittite from before you. ²⁹ I shall not drive them out from before you in one year lest the land should become desolate, and the field animal be many against you. ³⁰ Little by little shall I drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and you are allotted the land. ³¹ And I will set your boundary from the Sea of Weeds unto the sea of the Philistines and from the wilderness unto the Stream, for I shall give into your hand the dwellers of the land, and you will drive them out from your presence.

³¹ For you are crossing over the Jordan to enter and to tenant the land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you. When you tenant it and dwell in it,

¹⁴ When you come to the land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you, and you tenant it and dwell in it, and you say:Let me set a king over me like all the nations who are around me,

⁴ Then Yahweh said to him:This is the land about which I had sworn to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, saying, To your seed shall I give it. I have let you see it with your eyes, yet you shall not cross over there.

³ For neither by their sword did they tenant the land, Nor did their arm bring salvation for them. But it was Your right hand and Your arm of power and the light of Your countenance, For You held them dear."

⁴² Their enemies oppressed them, And they were made to submit under their hand." ⁴³ Many times He rescued them, But they were rebellious in their counsel, And they were reduced lower in their depravity." ⁴⁴ Yet He saw their distress, On His hearing of their appeal, ⁴⁵ And, for them, He remembered His covenant, So that He was merciful according to His many benignities."

³¹ And I will set your boundary from the Sea of Weeds unto the sea of the Philistines and from the wilderness unto the Stream, for I shall give into your hand the dwellers of the land, and you will drive them out from your presence.

²² Yahweh your Elohim will ease these nations out before your face, little by little. You shall not be able to finish them quickly, lest the land become a wilderness and the animal of the field multiply against you. ²³ Yet Yahweh your Elohim will give them up before you and discomfit them with a great discomfiture until they are exterminated. ²⁴ He will give their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from under the heavens. No man shall station himself in your presence until you exterminate them.

³ Yahweh your Elohim, He is crossing over before you; He Himself shall exterminate these nations from before you, and you will tenant in their place. Joshua, he is crossing over before you just as Yahweh has spoken, ⁴ and Yahweh will do to them just as He did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorite, and to their country, those whom He exterminated. ⁵ Yahweh will give them up before you, and you must deal with them according to all the instructions which I have enjoined on you.

¹³ `Remember the word which Moses, servant of Yahweh, commanded you, saying, Yahweh your Elohim is giving rest to you, and He has given to you this land;"

¹⁵ till that Yahweh gives rest to your brethren as to yourselves, and they have possessed, even they, the land which Yahweh your Elohim is giving to them; then you have turned back to the land of your possession, and have possessed it, which Moses, servant of Yahweh, has given to you beyond the Jordan, [at] the sun-rising..

²³ And Joshua takes the whole of the land, according to all that Yahweh has spoken unto Moses, and Joshua gives it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions, by their tribes; and the land has rest from war.

⁴ `And, now, Yahweh your Elohim has given rest to your brethren, as He spoke to them; and now, turn you, and go for yourselves to your tents, unto the land of your possession, which Moses, servant of Yahweh, has given to you beyond the Jordan.

⁹ And the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, turn back and go from the sons of Israel out of Shiloh, which [is] in the land of Canaan, to go unto the land of Gilead, unto the land of their possession, in which they have possession, according to the command of Yahweh, by the hand of Moses;"

⁹ Consequently a sabbatism is left for the people of God.

¹⁹ El is not a man that He should lie. Nor a son of humanity that He should feel regret. Does He say it and then not do it? Or speak and then not carry it out?

¹⁴ `And lo, I am going, to-day, in the way of all the earth, and you have known--with all your heart, and with all your soul--that there has not fallen one thing of all the good things which Yahweh your Elohim has spoken concerning you; the whole have come to you; there has not failed of it one thing. <sup>15</sup> `And it has been, as there has come upon you all the good thing which Yahweh your Elohim has spoken unto you, so does Yahweh bring upon you the whole of the evil thing, till His destroying you from off this good ground which Yahweh your Elohim has given to you;"

⁵⁶ `Blessed [is] Yahweh who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He has spoken; there has not fallen one word of all His good word, which He spoke by the hand of Moses his servant.

⁹ Faithful is God, through Whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord."

²⁴ Faithful is He Who is calling you, Who will be doing it also."

² in expectation of life eonian, which God, Who does not lie, promises before times eonian,

¹⁸ that by two immutable matters, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong consolation, who are fleeing for refuge to lay hold of the expectation lying before us,
