¹ And it comes to pass, many days after that Yahweh has given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua is old, entering into days, ² and Joshua calls for all Israel, for its elders, and for its heads, and for its judges, and for its authorities, and said unto them, `I have become old; I have entered into days;" <sup>3</sup> and you--you have seen all that Yahweh your Elohim has done to all these nations because of you, for Yahweh your Elohim [is] He who is fighting for you;" <sup>4</sup> see, I have caused to fall to you these nations who are left for an inheritance to your tribes, from the Jordan, (and all the nations which I cut off), and the great sea, the going in of the sun. <sup>5</sup> `As to Yahweh your Elohim, He does thrust them from your presence, and has dispossessed them from before you, and you have possessed their land, as Yahweh your Elohim has spoken to you, ⁶ and you have been very strong to keep and to do the whole that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, so as not to turn aside from it right or left, ⁷ so as not to go in among these nations, these who are left with you; and of the name of their elohims you do not make mention, nor do you swear, nor do you serve them, nor do you bow yourselves to them;" ⁸ but to Yahweh your Elohim you do cleave, as you have done till this day. ⁹ And Yahweh is dispossessing from before you nations great and mighty; as for you, none has stood in your presence till this day;" ¹⁰ one man of you does pursue a thousand, for Yahweh your Elohim [is] He who is fighting for you, as He has spoken to you;" ¹¹ and you have been very watchful for yourselves to love Yahweh your Elohim. ¹² `But--if you at all turn back and have cleaved to the remnant of these nations, these who are left with you, and intermarried with them, and gone in to them, and they to you, <sup>13</sup> know certainly that Yahweh your Elohim is not continuing to dispossess these nations from before you, and they have been to you for a gin, and for a snare, and for a scourge, in your sides, and for thorns in your eyes, till you perish from off this good ground which Yahweh your Elohim has given to you. <sup>14</sup> `And lo, I am going, to-day, in the way of all the earth, and you have known--with all your heart, and with all your soul--that there has not fallen one thing of all the good things which Yahweh your Elohim has spoken concerning you; the whole have come to you; there has not failed of it one thing. ¹⁵ `And it has been, as there has come upon you all the good thing which Yahweh your Elohim has spoken unto you, so does Yahweh bring upon you the whole of the evil thing, till His destroying you from off this good ground which Yahweh your Elohim has given to you;" ¹⁶ in your transgressing the covenant of Yahweh your Elohim which He commanded you, and you have gone and served other elohims, and bowed yourselves to them, then has the anger of Yahweh burned against you, and you have perished hastily from off the good land which He has given to you..

⁸ And expiring is Abraham, and dying in a good grey-haired age, old and satisfied with days. And gathered is he to his people.

² and saying to them:I am a hundred and twenty years old today. No longer am I able to go forth or to come in. And Yahweh has said to me:You shall not cross over this Jordan.

²³ And Joshua takes the whole of the land, according to all that Yahweh has spoken unto Moses, and Joshua gives it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions, by their tribes; and the land has rest from war.

¹ And Joshua is old, entering into days, and Yahweh said unto him, `You have become aged, you have entered into days; as to the land, very much has been left to possess.

⁴⁴ and Yahweh gives rest to them round about, according to all that which He has sworn to their fathers, and there has not stood a man in their presence of all their enemies, the whole of their enemies has Yahweh given into their hand;"

⁴ `And, now, Yahweh your Elohim has given rest to your brethren, as He spoke to them; and now, turn you, and go for yourselves to your tents, unto the land of your possession, which Moses, servant of Yahweh, has given to you beyond the Jordan.

⁹ Who is making wars cease unto the end of the earth. He shall break the bow, and He cuts away the spear; He shall burn the battle carts with fire."

²⁸ Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your superintendents, and let me speak in their ears all these words, and let me summon the heavens and the earth to testify against them.

¹ And Joshua gathers all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and calls for the elders of Israel, and for its heads, and for its judges, and for its authorities, and they station themselves before Elohim.

¹ And David assembles all the heads of Israel, heads of the tribes, and heads of the courses who are serving the king, and heads of the thousands, and heads of the hundreds, and heads of all the substance and possessions of the king, and of his sons, with the officers and the mighty ones, even to every mighty one of valor--unto Jerusalem.

¹⁷ Now from Miletus, sending to Ephesus, he calls for the elders of the ecclesia." ¹⁸ Now as they came along to him, he said to them, "You are versed in the facts, from the first day on which I stepped into the province of Asia, how I came to be with you all the time, ¹⁹ slaving for the Lord with all humility and tears, and the trials which befell me by the plots of the Jews;" ²⁰ how under no circumstances did I shrink from informing you of anything which was expedient, and teaching you in public and at your homes, ²¹ certifying to both Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. ²² And now, lo! I, bound in spirit, am going to Jerusalem, not being aware what I will meet with in it, ²³ more than that the holy spirit, city by city, certifies to me, saying that bonds and afflictions are remaining for me." ²⁴ But of nothing have I a word, nor yet am I making my soul precious to myself, till I should be perfecting my career and the dispensation which I got from the Lord Jesus, to certify the evangel of the grace of God." ²⁵ And now, lo! I am aware that you all, among whom I passed through heralding the kingdom, shall be seeing my face no longer." ²⁶ Wherefore I am attesting to you in this very day that I am clear from the blood of all, ²⁷ for under no circumstances do I shrink from informing you of the entire counsel of God. ²⁸ Take heed to yourselves and to the entire flocklet, among which the holy spirit appointed you supervisors, to be shepherding the ecclesia of God, which He procures through the blood of His Own." ²⁹ Now I am aware that, after I am out of reach, burdensome wolves will be entering among you, not sparing the flocklet." ³⁰ And from among yourselves will arise men, speaking perverse things to pull away disciples after themselves." ³¹ Wherefore watch, remembering that for three years, night and day, I cease not admonishing each one with tears." ³² And now I am committing you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to edify and give the enjoyment of an allotment among all who have been hallowed." ³³ I covet no one's silver or gold or vesture." ³⁴ You know that these hands subserve my needs, and of those who are with me." ³⁵ All I intimate to you, that, thus toiling, you must be supporting the infirm. Besides, remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'Happy is it to give rather than to get.'"

¹⁴ Yahweh,He shall fight for you; as for you, you shall be silent.

⁹ But guard yourself and keep your soul especially vigilant, lest you should forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they should withdraw from your heart, all the days of your lives. You make them known to your sons and to your sons' sons, lest you forge.

⁴ for Yahweh your Elohim is the One going with you to fight for you with your enemies and to save you.

¹⁴ And there has not been like that day before it or after it, for Yahweh's hearkening to the voice of a man; for Yahweh is fighting for Israel.

⁴² and all these kings and their land has Joshua captured [at] one time, for Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, is fighting for Israel.

¹ {For the Sons of Korah, Contemplating{ O Elohim, with our ears we have heard; Our fathers, they recounted it to us:The deed You effected in their days, in the days aforetime." ² You, by Your hand, You evicted the nations, And You planted them there. You brought evil to the national groups, And You sent them in." ³ For neither by their sword did they tenant the land, Nor did their arm bring salvation for them. But it was Your right hand and Your arm of power and the light of Your countenance, For You held them dear."

⁵ And your eyes shall see, and you shall say, Yahweh shall be great from over the boundary of Israel."

² `This [is] the land that is left; all the circuits of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,

⁶ all the inhabitants of the hill-country, from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-Maim, all the Sidonians:I--I dispossess them before the sons of Israel; only, cause it to fall to Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded you. ⁷ `And now, apportion this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh,' -.

¹⁰ And Joshua casts for them a lot in Shiloh before Yahweh, and there Joshua apportions the land to the sons of Israel, according to their divisions.

³⁰ Little by little shall I drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and you are allotted the land. ³¹ And I will set your boundary from the Sea of Weeds unto the sea of the Philistines and from the wilderness unto the Stream, for I shall give into your hand the dwellers of the land, and you will drive them out from your presence.

² And I will send before you My messenger. I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.

¹¹ Observe for yourself what I am instructing you today. Behold Me driving out from your presence the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.

⁵² then you will evict all the dwellers of the land from before you and destroy all their pictures; and all their molten images shall you destroy, and all their fane heights shall you exterminate. ⁵³ You will prepare the land for tenancy and dwell in it, for to you I give the land to tenant it.

²³ then Yahweh will evict all these nations from before you, and you will tenant in the place of nations greater and more substantial than you.

³² You will observe to do just as Yahweh your Elohim had enjoined on you. You shall not withdraw to the right or to the left.

³² Every word which I am enjoining on you today, you shall observe to obey it. You shall neither add to it, nor shall you subtract from it.

²⁰ by no means to exalt his heart above his brothers and by no means to withdraw from the instruction, neither to the right nor left, so that he may prolong his days on the throne of his kingdom, he and his sons among Israel.

¹⁴ You shall not withdraw from any of the words which I am instructing you today, neither to the right nor left, to go after other elohim to serve them.

⁷ `Only, be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; you do not turn aside from it right or left, so that you do act wisely in every [place] whither you go;" <sup>8</sup> the book of this law does not depart out of your mouth, and you have meditated in it by day and by night, so that you do observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you do cause your way to prosper, and then you do act wisely. <sup>9</sup> `Have not I commanded you? be strong and courageous; be not terrified nor affrighted, for with you [is] Yahweh your Elohim in every [place] whither you go..

²⁶ Ponder the route of your foot, And all your ways, let them be established." ²⁷ Do not turn aside to the right or left; Take away your foot from evil.

³ And they bend their tongue, their bow [is] a lie, And not for stedfastness have they been mighty in the land, For from evil unto evil they have gone forth, And Me they have not known, An affirmation of Yahweh!"

¹³ Watch! Stand firm in the faith! Be manly! Be staunch!

¹⁰ For the rest, brethren mine, be invigorated in the Lord and in the might of His strength." ¹¹ Put on the panoply of God, to enable you to stand up to the stratagems of the Adversary, ¹² for it is not ours to wrestle with blood and flesh, but with the sovereignties, with the authorities, with the world-mights of this darkness, with the spiritual forces of wickedness among the celestials." ¹³ Therefore take up the panoply of God that you may be enabled to withstand in the wicked day, and having effected all, to stand." ¹⁴ Stand, then, girded about your loins with truth, with the cuirass of righteousness put on." ¹⁵ and your feet sandaled with the readiness of the evangel of peace; ¹⁶ with all taking up the large shield of faith, by which you will be able to extinguish all the fiery arrows of the wicked one." ¹⁷ And receive the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is a declaration of God." ¹⁸ During every prayer and petition be praying on every occasion (in spirit being vigilant also for it with all perseverance and petition concerning all the saints, ¹⁹ and for me), that to me expression may be granted, in the opening of my mouth with boldness, to make known the secret of the evangel,

⁴ Not as yet unto blood did you repulse, when contending against sin."

⁸ Yet the timid, and unbelievers, and the abominable, and murderers, and paramours, and enchanters, and idolaters, and all the false-their part is in the lake burning with fire and sulphur, which is the second death."

⁵ You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor be made to serve them, for I, Yahweh your Elohim, am a jealous El, visiting the depravity of the fathers on the sons, on the third and on the fourth generation, to those hating Me,

¹³ You shall beware in all that I say to you. And the name of other elohim you shall not mention; nor let it be heard coming out of your mouth.

³³ They shall not dwell in your land lest they should make you sin against Me so that you serve their elohim, and that it should come to be a trap for you.

³⁸ as well as Nebo and Baal-meon (turned around in name), and Sibmah; for they called the names of the cities which they rebuilt by their own names.

² when Yahweh your Elohim gives them up before you, and you smite them, then you shall doom, yea doom them. You shall neither contract a covenant with them nor be gracious to them, ³ nor shall you intermarry with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, and you shall not take his daughter for your son.

¹² `But--if you at all turn back and have cleaved to the remnant of these nations, these who are left with you, and intermarried with them, and gone in to them, and they to you,

⁴ Yet their griefs shall increase who hasten after another elohim; Not at all shall I libate their libations of blood, And not at all shall I bear their names on my lips."

¹⁴ In the path of the wicked, do not enter, And do not progress along the way of evil men."

⁷ For this I am not propitious to you, Your sons have forsaken Me, And are satisfied by that which is not elohim, I satisfy them, and they commit adultery, And at the house of a harlot They gather themselves together."

¹⁷ and I take away the names of the Baals from her mouth, and no longer shall they be remembered by their name."

⁵ and those worshiping on the house tops to the host of the heavens, and those worshiping--swearing to Yahweh and swearing by their king,

³³ Be not deceived: evil conversations are corrupting kind characters.

¹⁴ Do not become diversely yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness? Or what communion has light with darkness? ¹⁵ Now what agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what part a believer with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ Now what concurrence has a temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God, according as God said, that I will be making My home and will be walking in them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people." ¹⁷ Wherefore, Come out of their midst and be severed, the Lord is saying. And touch not the unclean, and I will admit you,

¹¹ And be not joint participants in the unfruitful acts of darkness, yet rather be exposing them also,

⁴ Yet you who were clinging to Yahweh your Elohim, all of you are alive today.

²⁰ Yahweh your Elohim shall you fear, and Him shall you serve; to Him shall you cling, and by His name shall you swear.

²² For if you should observe, yea observe all this instruction which I am enjoining on you today, to obey it, to love Yahweh your Elohim, to walk in all His ways and to cling to Him,

⁴ After Yahweh your Elohim shall you go, and Him shall you fear; His instructions shall you observe, and to His voice shall you hearken; Him shall you serve, and to Him shall you cling.

⁵ Only, be very watchful to do the command and the law which Moses, servant of Yahweh, commanded you, to love Yahweh your Elohim, and to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commands, and to cleave to Him, and to serve Him, with all your heart, and with all your soul..

²³ who, coming along and perceiving the grace of God, rejoiced and entreated all with purpose of heart to be remaining in the Lord -"

³⁰ Little by little shall I drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and you are allotted the land.

²⁴ He will give their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from under the heavens. No man shall station himself in your presence until you exterminate them.

⁵ `No man does station himself before you all days of your life; as I have been with Moses, I am with you, I do not fail you, nor forsake you;"

¹⁴ And Caleb is dispossessing thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, children of Anak,

⁴³ And Yahweh gives to Israel the whole of the land which He has sworn to give to their fathers, and they possess it, and dwell in it;" ⁴⁴ and Yahweh gives rest to them round about, according to all that which He has sworn to their fathers, and there has not stood a man in their presence of all their enemies, the whole of their enemies has Yahweh given into their hand;"

⁵ `As to Yahweh your Elohim, He does thrust them from your presence, and has dispossessed them from before you, and you have possessed their land, as Yahweh your Elohim has spoken to you,

²⁷ I shall send the dread of Me before you, I will discomfit all the people against whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn the nape of their necks to you. ²⁸ I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite and the Hittite from before you. ²⁹ I shall not drive them out from before you in one year lest the land should become desolate, and the field animal be many against you. ³⁰ Little by little shall I drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and you are allotted the land. ³¹ And I will set your boundary from the Sea of Weeds unto the sea of the Philistines and from the wilderness unto the Stream, for I shall give into your hand the dwellers of the land, and you will drive them out from your presence. ³² You shall not contract a covenant with them or with their elohim. ³³ They shall not dwell in your land lest they should make you sin against Me so that you serve their elohim, and that it should come to be a trap for you.

⁸ five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you shall pursue a myriad, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword.

²² You shall not fear them, for Yahweh your Elohim, He is the One fighting for you.

³⁰ How could one pursue a thousand or two put a myriad to flight, if it were not that their Rock had sold them, and Yahweh had surrounded them?

³ and you--you have seen all that Yahweh your Elohim has done to all these nations because of you, for Yahweh your Elohim [is] He who is fighting for you;"

³¹ And after him has been Shamgar son of Anath, and he smites the Philistines--six hundred men--with an ox-goad, and he saves--he also--Israel.

¹⁹ And Gideon comes--and the hundred men who [are] with him--into the extremity of the camp, [at] the beginning of the middle watch (it has only just confirmed the watchmen), and they blow with trumpets--dashing in pieces also the pitchers which [are] in their hand;" ²⁰ and the three detachments blow with trumpets, and break the pitchers, and keep hold with their left hand on the lamps, and with their right hand on the trumpets to blow, and they cry, `The sword of Yahweh and of Gideon.. ²¹ And they stand each in his place, round about the camp, and all the camp runs, and they shout, and flee;" ²² and the three hundred blow the trumpets, and Yahweh sets the sword of each against his companion, even through all the camp; and the camp flees unto Beth-Shittah, at Zererath, unto the border of Abel-Meholah, by Tabbath.

¹⁵ and he finds a fresh jaw-bone of an ass, and puts forth his hand and takes it, and smites with it--a thousand men.

⁶ And Jonathan said unto the young man bearing his weapons, `Come, and we pass over unto the station of these uncircumcised; it may be Yahweh does work for us, for there is no restraint to Yahweh to save by many or by few..

¹² And the men of the station answer Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons, and say, `Come up unto us, and we cause you to know something.' And Jonathan said unto the bearer of his weapons, `Come up after me, for Yahweh has given them into the hand of Israel.. ¹³ And Jonathan goes up on his hands, and on his feet, and the bearer of his weapons after him; and they fall before Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons is putting to death after him. ¹⁴ And the first smiting which Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons have smitten is of about twenty men, in about half a furrow of a yoke of a field, ¹⁵ and there is a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people, the station and the destroyers have trembled--even they, and the earth shakes, and it becomes a trembling of Elohim. ¹⁶ And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin see, and lo, the multitude has melted away, and it goes on, and is beaten down.

⁸ These [are] the names of the mighty ones whom David has:sitting in the seat [is] the Tachmonite, head of the captains--he [is] Adino, who hardened himself against eight hundred--wounded at one time.

¹ {Davidic{ Do contend, O Yahweh, with my contenders; Fight against those fighting me."

⁴ You are He, my King and my Elohim, Who is determining the grand salvation of Jacob." ⁵ By You, we gored our foes; In Your Name we trampled those rising against us."

⁷ Yahweh of hosts is with us; Our Impregnable Retreat is the Elohim of Jacob. {Interlude{

³¹ What then, shall we declare to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

⁶ yet doing kindness to thousands, to those loving Me and observing My instructions.

⁵ So you will love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your intensity. ⁶ These words which I am instructing you today will come to be in your heart. ⁷ Repeat them to your sons, and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you arise. ⁸ Tie them for a sign on your hand, and they will come to be for the brow bands between your eyes;" ⁹ Write them on the jambs of your house and on your gates. ¹⁰ When it comes to be that Yahweh your Elohim brings you into the land about which He had sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, to give to you great and good cities which you did not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not hew, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, so that you will eat and be satisfied, ¹² then guard yourself, lest you should forget Yahweh your Elohim Who brought you forth from the country of Egypt, from the house of servants.

²³ More than any guard-post, preserve your heart, For from it spring the outflowings of life."

³⁴ Now take heed to yourselves, lest at some time your hearts should be burdened with crapulence and drunkenness and the worries of life's affairs, and that day may be standing by you unawares,

²⁸ Now we are aware that God is working all together for the good of those who are loving God, who are called according to the purpose"

³ Now if anyone is loving God, this one is known by Him."

²² If anyone is not fond of the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be anathema! Maran atha!"

¹⁵ Be observing accurately, then, brethren, how you are walking, not as unwise, but as wise,

¹⁵ supervising, that no one be wanting of the grace of God, nor any root of bitterness, sprouting up, may be annoying you, and through this the majority may be defiled,

²⁰ Now you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in holy spirit, ²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ for life eonian."

²⁴ Therefore a man shall forsake his father and his mother and cling to his wife, and they two become one flesh.

³ And clinging is his soul to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and loving the maiden is he, and speaking to the heart of the maiden.

¹² Guard yourself lest you contract a covenant with the dwellers of the land, to which you are entering, lest it become a trap among you. ¹³ For their altars shall you break down, and their monuments shall you break, and their Asherah poles shall you cut down. ¹⁴ For you shall not bow yourself down to another el (for Yahweh, Jealous is His name; He is a jealous El. ¹⁵ lest you contract a covenant with the dweller of the land when they prostitute after their elohim and sacrifice to their elohim lest one call to you that you eat of his sacrifice. ¹⁶ If you would take of his daughters for your sons and give your daughters to their sons, then his daughters would prostitute after their elohim and cause your sons to prostitute after their elohim.

³ nor shall you intermarry with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, and you shall not take his daughter for your son.

¹ And it comes to pass, when he finishes to speak unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan has been bound to the soul of David, and Jonathan loves him as his own soul. ² And Saul takes him on that day, and has not permitted him to turn back to the house of his father. ³ And Jonathan makes--also David--a covenant, because he loves him as his own soul,

² of the nations of which Yahweh said unto the sons of Israel, `You do not go in to them, and they do not go in to you; surely they turn aside your heart after their elohims;' to them has Solomon cleaved for love.

⁴ And it comes to pass, at the time of the old age of Solomon, his wives have turned aside his heart after other elohims, and his heart has not been perfect with Yahweh his Elohim, like the heart of David his father.

¹ After the conclusion of these events, the chiefs came close to me, saying:The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not kept themselves separate from the peoples of the countries despite their abhorrent acts, those of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Jebusite, the Ammonite, the Moabite, the Egyptian and the Amorite. ² For they have taken up some of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed has become mixed with the peoples of these countries. And the hand of the chiefs and the prefects has been first in this offense.

¹¹ that You enjoined on us by means of Your servants the prophets, saying, The land that you are entering to tenant it, a land of impurity is it, because of the impurity of the peoples of the countries and their abhorrences with which they have filled it from edge to edge with their uncleanness. ¹² Now then, you must not give your daughters to their sons, and you must not take up their daughters for your sons. And you shall not seek after their welfare and their good until the eon, so that you may be unyielding and eat the good of the land and leave it as a tenancy to your sons until the eon.

²³ Also, in those days, I have seen the Jews [who] have settled women of Ashdod, of Ammon, of Moab. ²⁴ And of their sons, half are speaking Ashdoditish--and are not knowing to speak Jewish--and according to the language of people and people. ²⁵ And I strive with them, and declare them vile, and smite certain of them, and pluck off their hair, and cause them to swear by Elohim, `You do not give your daughters to their sons, nor do you take of their daughters to your sons, and to yourselves. <sup>26</sup> `By these did not Solomon king of Israel sin? and among the many nations there was no king like him, and beloved by his Elohim he was, and Elohim makes him king over all Israel--even him did the strange women cause to sin.

³ The words of his mouth are lawlessness and deceit; He evades even to contemplate doing good.

³⁴ They did not exterminate the peoples As Yahweh had commanded them. ³⁵ They mixed with the nations, And they learned their customs."

⁵ As for those who turn aside to their tortuous ways, May Yahweh banish them with the contrivers of lawlessness. Peace be on Israel."

⁴ Woe, nation of sin! People heavy with depravity! Seed of evil doers! Sons of ruiners! They forsake Yahweh. They spurn the Holy One of Israel. They are estranged, going back."

²⁴ And in the turning back of the righteous from his righteousness, And he has done perversity, According to all the abominations That the wicked has done, he does--thus he lives, All his righteousnesses that he has done are not remembered, For his trespass that he has trespassed, And for his sin that he has sinned, For them he does die."

⁶ and those turned away from after Yahweh, who do not seek Yahweh, nor inquire of Him."

⁴⁵ Then it is going and taking along with itself seven other spirits, more wicked than itself, and entering, it is dwelling there. And the last state of that man is becoming worse than the first. Thus will it be to this wicked generation also."

⁶⁶ At this, then, many of His disciples came away, dropping behind, and walked no longer with Him."

⁹ Let love be unfeigned. Abhorring that which is wicked, clinging to good,

³⁸ Now My "just one by faith shall be living,and "If he should ever be shrinking, My soul is not delighting in him." ³⁹ Yet we are not of those shrinking back to destruction, but of faith for the procuring of the soul."

¹⁸ For, uttering pompous vanity, they are luring by the lusts of the flesh, in wantonness, those who are scarcely fleeing from those who are behaving with deception;" ¹⁹ promising them freedom, they are inherently slaves of corruption; for by whom anyone is discomfited, to this one he has been enslaved also." ²⁰ For if, while fleeing from the defilements of the world by the recognition of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, yet, being again involved in these, they are being discomfited, their last state has become worse than the first." ²¹ For it were better for them not to have recognized the way of righteousness, than, recognizing it, to go back to what was behind, from the holy precept given over to them." ²² Now that in the true proverb has befallen them: "A cur turning to its own vomit,and "A bathed sow to her wallowing in the mire."

⁹ He who is saying that he is in the light and is hating his brother is a liar and is in darkness hitherto.

³¹ I will turn your cities into a desert and make your sanctuary desolate; I shall not smell your fragrant odor. ³² I will make the land so desolate, that your enemies, the ones dwelling in it, will be dejected over it. ³³ And you I shall winnow among the nations, and I will unsheathe a sword after you so that your land will become a desolation and your cities become a desert. ³⁴ Then the land shall accept its sabbaths all the days of its desolation when you are in the land of your enemies. Then the land shall pause for a sabbath and cause its missing sabbaths to be accepted. ³⁵ All the days of its desolation it shall pause for a sabbath, which days it did not pause in your sabbath years when you dwelt on it.

⁵⁵ Yet if you should not evict the dwellers of the land from your presence, then those whom you are leaving of them will become barbs in your eyes and pricks in your sides, and they will distress you in the land in which you are dwelling.

²⁶ I testify against you today by the heavens and the earth, that you shall perish, yea perish quickly off the land where you are crossing over the Jordan to tenant it. You shall not prolong your days on it, for you shall be exterminated, yea exterminated.

¹⁶ Now you will devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your Elohim is delivering to you. Your eye shall not commiserate over them, and you shall not serve their elohim, for that is a trap to you.

⁶³ So it will come to be, just as Yahweh was elated over you to bring you good and to let you increase, so Yahweh shall be elated over you to destroy you and to exterminate you, so that you will be swept away off the ground where you are entering to tenant it. ⁶⁴ And Yahweh will scatter you among all the peoples from one end of the earth unto the other end of the earth. There you will serve other elohim, those of wood and stone which you have not known, neither you nor your fathers. ⁶⁵ And among those nations you shall neither find respite, nor shall there be a resting place for the sole of your foot, and Yahweh will give to you there a disturbed heart, a failure of the eyes and pining of the soul. ⁶⁶ Then your lives will come to be hung in suspense in front of you. You will be afraid by night and by day, and you shall not put trust in your lives. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say:O that it were evening! And in the evening you shall say:O that it were morning! because of the awe of your heart with which you shall be afraid and because of the sight of your eyes which you shall see. ⁶⁸ Then Yahweh will bring you back complaining to Egypt by the way of which I said to you:You should not again see it further. There you will put yourselves up for sale to your enemies as servants and as maids, yet there will be no buyer.

²⁸ So Yahweh plucked them up off their ground in anger, in fury and in great wrath, and He flung them into another country as it is this day.

¹⁸ I tell you today that you shall perish, yea perish. You shall not prolong your days on the ground where you are crossing over the Jordan to enter to tenant it.

² and said, `I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you in unto the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you to the eon; and you--you make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land--their altars you break down; and you have not hearkened to My voice--what [is] this you have done? ³ And I also have said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been to you for adversaries, and their elohims are to you for a snare..

²² and the sons of Israel walk in all the sins of Jeroboam that he did, they have not turned aside therefrom, ²³ till that Yahweh has turned Israel aside from His presence, as He spoke by the hand of all His servants the prophets, and Israel is removed from off its land to Asshur, unto this day.

²¹ and the king of Babylon smites them, and puts them to death in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he removes Judah from off its land.

²⁶ And all the people rise, from small even unto great, and the heads of the forces, and come in to Egypt, for they have been afraid of the presence of the Chaldeans.

²² Let their table become a trap before them, And a repayment and a snare."

³⁵ They mixed with the nations, And they learned their customs." ³⁶ They served their fetishes, And these came to be a trap for them." ³⁷ They sacrificed their sons And their daughters to demons; ³⁸ So they shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the fetishes of Canaan, And the land was polluted with bloodshed." ³⁹ Thus they defiled themselves by their deeds, And they prostituted themselves by their actions."

²⁴ And they shall be falling by the edge of the sword and shall be led into captivity into all nations. And Jerusalem shall be trodden by the nations, until the eras of the nations may be fulfilled."

²⁶ and they will be sobering up out of the trap of the Adversary, having been caught alive by him, for that one's will."

⁸ Hence I have descended to rescue them from the hand of Egypt and to bring them up from that land to a land good and wide, to a land gushing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.

²⁷ I shall send the dread of Me before you, I will discomfit all the people against whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn the nape of their necks to you. ²⁸ I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite and the Hittite from before you. ²⁹ I shall not drive them out from before you in one year lest the land should become desolate, and the field animal be many against you. ³⁰ Little by little shall I drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and you are allotted the land.

³ If you walk by My statutes and observe My instructions and keep them, ⁴ then I will give your downpours in their season, and the land will give its crop, and the tree of the field shall give its fruit. ⁵ Your threshing will overtake the vintage, and the vintage, it shall overtake the sowing; you will eat your bread to satisfaction and dwell in trust in your land. ⁶ I will give peace in the land, and you will lie down with no one making you tremble; I will eradicate the vicious animal from the land, and no sword shall pass through your land. ⁷ You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword;" ⁸ five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you shall pursue a myriad, and your enemies will fall before you by the sword. ⁹ I will countenance you, make you fruitful, increase you and confirm My covenant with you. ¹⁰ You will eat stored stores and bring forth the stores in view of the new. ¹¹ I will put My tabernacle in your midst, and My soul shall not loathe you. ¹² I will walk about in your midst and will be your Elohim and you, you shall be My people. ¹³ I, Yahweh, am your Elohim Who brought you forth from the land of Egypt, from being servants to them. I have broken the slider bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk upraised.

¹⁹ El is not a man that He should lie. Nor a son of humanity that He should feel regret. Does He say it and then not do it? Or speak and then not carry it out?

¹ It will come to be if you should hearken, yea hearken to the voice of Yahweh your Elohim, to observe and to keep all His instructions which I am enjoining on you today, that Yahweh your Elohim will give you supremacy over all the nations of the earth. ² And all these blessings will come on you and overtake you in case you should hearken to the voice of Yahweh your Elohim. ³ Blessed be you in the city, and blessed be you in the field. ⁴ Blessed be the fruit of your belly, the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your beast, the calving of your domestic animals and the lambing of your flock. ⁵ Blessed be your basket and your kneading-trough. ⁶ Blessed be you in your coming in, and blessed be you in your going forth. ⁷ Yahweh shall make your enemies who are rising against you to be struck down before you. By a single road shall they come forth to you, and by seven roads shall they flee before you. ⁸ Yahweh shall instruct the blessing to be with you in your granaries and in every undertaking of your hand, and He will bless you in the land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you. ⁹ Yahweh shall raise you as a people holy to Himself, just as He had sworn to you, in case you should observe the instructions of Yahweh your Elohim, and walk in His ways, ¹⁰ so that all the peoples of the earth will see that the name of Yahweh is proclaimed over you, and they will fear you. ¹¹ Then through the fruit of your belly, the fruit of your domestic beast and the fruit of your ground, Yahweh will give you surplus in goods on the ground about which Yahweh had sworn to your fathers to give to you. ¹² Yahweh shall open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give rain to your land in its season and to bless every work of your hand. You will obligate many nations, yet you shall not borrow. ¹³ So Yahweh will make you to be the head and not the tail, and you will surely be above, and you shall not be below, in case you should hearken to the instructions of Yahweh your Elohim that I am enjoining on you today, to observe and to obey. ¹⁴ You shall not withdraw from any of the words which I am instructing you today, neither to the right nor left, to go after other elohim to serve them.

⁴³ And Yahweh gives to Israel the whole of the land which He has sworn to give to their fathers, and they possess it, and dwell in it;" ⁴⁴ and Yahweh gives rest to them round about, according to all that which He has sworn to their fathers, and there has not stood a man in their presence of all their enemies, the whole of their enemies has Yahweh given into their hand;" ⁴⁵ there has not fallen a thing of all the good thing which Yahweh spoke unto the house of Israel--the whole has come.

¹⁹ And Samuel grows up, and Yahweh has been with him, and has not let fall any of his words to the earth;"

² `I am going in the way of all the earth, and you have been strong, and become a man,

⁵⁶ `Blessed [is] Yahweh who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He has spoken; there has not fallen one word of all His good word, which He spoke by the hand of Moses his servant.

²³ I know that You are turning me back to death, To that house appointed for all the living.

¹⁰ All that your hand finds to do, do with your vigor, For there is no doing or devising or knowledge or wisdom In the unseen where you are going."

⁵ Moreover, one fears lofty heights, And catastrophes are on the road, When the almond tree flowers, And the grasshopper is burdensome, And the caperberry's effects are annulled, When man goes to his eonian home, And those lamenting turn about in the street;"

³³ Heaven and earth shall be passing by, yet My words shall by no means be passing by."

²⁷ And, in as much as it is reserved to the men to be dying once, yet after this a judging,

¹⁴ Yet if you neither hearken to Me nor observe all these instructions, ¹⁵ and if you reject My statutes, and if your soul loathes My judgments so as not to observe all My instructions, to cause you to annul My covenant, ¹⁶ indeed, I Myself shall do this to you:I will visit panic upon you, attenuation and fever, making the eyesight vanish and causing the soul to pine; and you will sow your seed for naught, for your enemies will eat it. ¹⁷ I will set My face against you, and you will be struck down before your enemies; those hating you will hold sway over you, and you will flee even when there is no one pursuing you. ¹⁸ And if, after these things, you should not hearken to Me, then I will continue to discipline you sevenfold for your sins. ¹⁹ I will break the pomp of your strength and make your heavens like iron and your land like copper. ²⁰ Your vigor will be spent for naught, and your land shall not give its crop, and the tree of the field shall not give its fruit. ²¹ If you go contrary to Me and are not willing to hearken to Me, then I will add smitings to you sevenfold according to your sins. ²² I will send the animal of the field against you, and it will bereave you, cut off your domestic beasts and so decrease you that your roads will be desolated. ²³ If by these you should not be disciplined for Me and go contrary to Me, ²⁴ then I will, indeed, go contrary to you, and I Myself will even smite you sevenfold for your sins. ²⁵ I will bring the sword on you avenging the vengeance of the covenant. When you will be gathered into your cities then I will send the plague into your midst, and you will be given into the hand of the enemy. ²⁶ When I break the stock of bread for you then ten women will bake your bread in one stove and return your bread by weight so that you will eat and not be satisfied. ²⁷ If by this you should not hearken to Me and go contrary to Me, ²⁸ then I will go contrary to you in fury. And I Myself, indeed, will discipline you sevenfold for your sins. ²⁹ You will eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall you eat. ³⁰ I will exterminate your fane heights, cut down your incense stands and bestow your corpses upon the corpses of your idol clods; thus My soul will loathe you. ³¹ I will turn your cities into a desert and make your sanctuary desolate; I shall not smell your fragrant odor. ³² I will make the land so desolate, that your enemies, the ones dwelling in it, will be dejected over it. ³³ And you I shall winnow among the nations, and I will unsheathe a sword after you so that your land will become a desolation and your cities become a desert. ³⁴ Then the land shall accept its sabbaths all the days of its desolation when you are in the land of your enemies. Then the land shall pause for a sabbath and cause its missing sabbaths to be accepted. ³⁵ All the days of its desolation it shall pause for a sabbath, which days it did not pause in your sabbath years when you dwelt on it. ³⁶ As for the remainder among you, I will also bring timidity into their heart in the lands of their enemies so that the sound of a leaf being whisked away will pursue them, and they will flee as if in flight from the sword; they will fall even when there is no one pursuing. ³⁷ They will stumble, a man over his brother, as though in view of the sword when there is no pursuer, and you shall come to have no standing space before your enemies. ³⁸ You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will devour you. ³⁹ The remainder among you shall be putrid over their depravity in the lands of your enemies, and also over the depravities of their fathers with them shall they be putrid. ⁴⁰ If they will confess their depravity and the depravity of their fathers in their offense (when they had offended Me and, indeed, when they had gone contrary to M. ⁴¹ so that I Myself also went contrary to them and brought them into the land of their enemies), if then their uncircumcised heart should submit, and if then they should accept their depravity, ⁴² then I will remember My covenant with Jacob and also My covenant with Isaac; also My covenant with Abraham shall I remember, and the land shall I remember. ⁴³ Yet the land, it shall be forsaken of them and shall accept its sabbath years while it is desolate without them, and they themselves shall accept their depravity because, yes because they had rejected My judgments and their soul had loathed My statutes. ⁴⁴ Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies I will not reject them nor loathe them so as to finish them, to annul My covenant with them, for I, Yahweh, am their Elohim. ⁴⁵ For their benefit I will remember the covenant with the former ones whom I brought forth from the land of Egypt before the eyes of the nations to be their Elohim; I am Yahweh. ⁴⁶ These are the statutes, the judgments and the laws which Yahweh put between Him and the sons of Israel on Mount Sinai by means of Moses.

¹⁵ It will come to be if you do not hearken to the voice of Yahweh your Elohim to observe and to do all His instructions and His statutes that I am enjoining on you today, that all these maledictions will come on you and overtake you. ¹⁶ Cursed be you in the city, and cursed be you in the field. ¹⁷ Cursed be your basket and your kneading-trough. ¹⁸ Cursed be the fruit of your belly, the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your beast, the calving of your domestic animals and the lambing of your flock. ¹⁹ Cursed be you in your coming in, and cursed be you in your going forth. ²⁰ Yahweh shall send the curse, the discomfiture and the rebuke on you in every undertaking of your hand that you shall do, until you are exterminated and you perish quickly, in view of the evil of your actions in which you have forsaken Me. ²¹ Yahweh shall cause the plague to cling to you until He finishes you off the ground where you are entering to tenant it. ²² Yahweh shall smite you with attenuation, with fever and inflammation, with hot heat and drought, with blasting and mildew, and they will pursue you until you perish. ²³ Your heavens that are over your head will come to be as copper, and the earth that is beneath you as iron. ²⁴ Yahweh shall make the rain of your land to be dust and soil-drifts; from the heavens it shall descend on you until you are exterminated. ²⁵ Yahweh shall make you to be struck down before your enemies. By a single road shall you go forth to them, and by seven roads shall you flee before them. So you will become an object of commotion to all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ Your carcass will become food for every flyer of the heavens and for the beast of the earth, and there will be no one causing them to tremble. ²⁷ Yahweh shall smite you with the boil of Egypt, with piles, with eczema and with the itch, from which you cannot be healed. ²⁸ Yahweh shall smite you with madness, with blindness and with derangement of heart;" ²⁹ and you will come to be groping at noon just as the blind one gropes in the gloom, and you shall not prosper in your ways and will only become extorted and pillaged all the days, and there will be no saviour. ³⁰ A wife shall you betroth, yet another man shall ravish her. A house shall you build, yet you shall not dwell in it. A vineyard shall you plant, yet you shall not take it for profane use. ³¹ Your bull shall be slaughtered before your eyes, yet you shall not eat of it. Your donkey shall be snatched from before you, yet it shall not return to you. Your flock shall be given to your enemies, yet there will be no saviour for you. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall be staring and wasting away for them all the day, yet there will be nothing at the disposal of your hand. ³³ A people you do not know shall devour the fruit of your ground and all your labor, and you will surely be extorted and bruised all the days, ³⁴ so that you will become mad because of the sight of your eyes that you shall see. ³⁵ Yahweh shall smite you with an evil boil on both the knees and on both the legs, of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot and unto your scalp. ³⁶ Yahweh shall conduct you and your king, whom you shall set up over you, to a nation whom you have not known, neither you nor your fathers, and you will serve there other elohim of wood and stone. ³⁷ You will become an object of astonishment, a proverb and a byword among all the peoples where Yahweh shall lead you. ³⁸ Much seed shall you bring forth to the field, yet little shall you gather, for the locust shall eat it up. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards, and you will service them, yet you shall neither drink the wine, nor shall you hoard it, for the worm shall devour it. ⁴⁰ You shall come to have olives in all your territory, yet you shall not rub yourself with oil because your olives shall drop off. ⁴¹ You shall generate sons and daughters, yet they shall not become yours, for they shall go into captivity. ⁴² The cicada shall make all your trees and the fruit of your ground destitute. ⁴³ The sojourner who is among you shall ascend over you upward and upward, yet you shall descend downward and downward. ⁴⁴ He shall obligate you, yet you shall not obligate him. He shall become the head, and you shall become the tail. ⁴⁵ All the maledictions will come on you, and they will pursue you and overtake you until you are exterminated, for you would not hearken to the voice of Yahweh your Elohim to observe His instructions and His statutes that He enjoined on you. ⁴⁶ They will be a sign and a miracle against you and your seed until the eon. ⁴⁷ Inasmuch as you would not serve Yahweh your Elohim with rejoicing and with goodness of heart over the abundance of everything, ⁴⁸ then you will serve your enemies whom Yahweh shall send forth against you, in famine and in thirst, in nakedness and in lack of everything. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until He has exterminated you. ⁴⁹ Yahweh shall lift up against you a nation from afar, from the end of the earth, just as the vulture swoops down, a nation whose tongue you have not heard, ⁵⁰ a nation strong of face who neither lifts the face of the old one with partiality nor is gracious to the youth. ⁵¹ It will devour the fruit of your beast and the fruit of your ground until you are exterminated, a nation who shall not let grain, grape juice or clarified oil, the calving of your domestic animals or the lambing of your flock remain for you, until it destroys you. ⁵² It will lay siege against you in all your gates until your lofty and defended walls in which you will be trusting come down in all your land; and he will lay siege against you in all your gates in all your land that Yahweh your Elohim will have given to you. ⁵³ Then you will eat the fruit of your own belly, the flesh of your sons and your daughters whom Yahweh your Elohim will have given to you, in the siege and in the constraint with which your enemy shall constrain you. ⁵⁴ The tender-hearted man among you and the one very fastidious, his eye shall be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the rest of his sons whom he shall have left, ⁵⁵ so as to keep from giving to one of them the flesh of his sons that he is eating because nothing at all remains for him in the siege and in the constraint with which your enemy shall constrain you in all your gates. ⁵⁶ The tender-hearted woman among you, and the fastidious one, who would not try to put the sole of her foot on the earth because of fastidiousness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ even for her afterbirth coming forth from between her feet, even for her sons whom she is bearing, for she shall eat them for lack of everything, in concealment during the siege and during the constraint with which your enemy shall constrain you in your gates. ⁵⁸ Should you not observe to obey all the words of this law, the ones written in this scroll, to fear the name of this glorified and fear-inspiring One, Yahweh your Elohim, ⁵⁹ then Yahweh will make your smitings and the smitings of your seed extraordinary:smitings that are great and constant, and illnesses that are bad and constant. ⁶⁰ Thus He will bring back to you every disease of Egypt from the presence of which you shrank away, and they will cling to you. ⁶¹ Moreover, every illness and every smiting that is not written in the scroll of this law, Yahweh shall bring them up on you until you are exterminated. ⁶² Thus you will remain few in adult males, whereas you would have become as the stars of the heavens for multitude, for you did not hearken to the voice of Yahweh your Elohim.

⁸ And the anger of Yahweh burns against Israel, and He sells them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram-Naharaim, and the sons of Israel serve Chushan-Rishathaim eight years;"

¹² and the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh; and Yahweh strengthens Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because that they have done the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh;"

¹ And the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh when Ehud is dead, ² and Yahweh sells them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who has reigned in Hazor, and the head of his host [is] Sisera, and he is dwelling in Harosheth of the Goyim;"

¹ And the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, and Yahweh gives them into the hand of Midian seven years,

⁶ And the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, and serve the Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the elohims of Aram, and the elohims of Zidon, and the elohims of Moab, and the elohims of the Bene-Ammon, and the elohims of the Philistines, and forsake Yahweh, and have not served Him;" ⁷ and the anger of Yahweh burns against Israel, and He sells them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the Bene-Ammon,

¹ And the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, and Yahweh gives them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

¹⁶ and they are mocking at the messengers of Elohim, and despising His words, and acting deceitfully with His prophets, till the going up of the fury of Yahweh against His people--till there is no healing. ¹⁷ And He causes to go up against them the king of the Chaldeans, and he slays their chosen ones by the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and has had no pity on young man and virgin, old man and very aged--the whole He has given into his hand.
