¹ And the men of Israel have sworn in Mizpeh, saying, `None of us does give his daughter to Benjamin for a wife.. <sup>2</sup> And the people come in to Beth-El, and sit there till the evening before Elohim, and lift up their voice, and weep--a great weeping, <sup>3</sup> and say, `Why, O Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, has this been in Israel--to be lacking to-day, from Israel, one tribe?. ⁴ And it comes to pass on the morrow, that the people rise early, and build there an altar, and cause to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. ⁵ And the sons of Israel say, `Who [is] he that has not come up in the assembly out of all the tribes of Israel unto Yahweh?' for the great oath has been concerning him who has not come up unto Yahweh to Mizpeh, saying, `He is surely put to death.. ⁶ And the sons of Israel repent concerning Benjamin their brother, and say, `There has been to-day cut off one tribe from Israel, <sup>7</sup> what do we do for them--for those who are left--for wives, and we--we have sworn by Yahweh not to give to them of our daughters for wives?. <sup>8</sup> And they say, `Who is [that] one out of the tribes of Israel who has not come up unto Yahweh to Mizpeh?' and lo, none has come in unto the camp from Jabesh-Gilead--unto the assembly. ⁹ And the people numbered themselves, and lo, there is not there a man of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead. ¹⁰ And the company send there twelve thousand men of the sons of valor, and command them, saying, `Go--and you have smitten the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead by the mouth of the sword, even the women and the infants. <sup>11</sup> And this [is] the thing which you do; every male, and every woman knowing the lying of a male, you devote.. <sup>12</sup> And they find out of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead four hundred young women, virgins, who have not known man by the lying of a male, and they bring them in unto the camp at Shiloh, which [is] in the land of Canaan. <sup>13</sup> And all the company send, and speak, unto the sons of Benjamin who [are] in the rock Rimmon, and proclaim to them peace;" <sup>14</sup> and Benjamin turns back at that time, and they give to them the women whom they have kept alive of the women of Jabesh-Gilead, and they have not found for [all of] them so. <sup>15</sup> And the people repented concerning Benjamin, for Yahweh had made a breach among the tribes of Israel. <sup>16</sup> And the elders of the company say, `What do we do to the remnant for wives--for the women have been destroyed out of Benjamin?. ¹⁷ And they say, `A possession of an escaped party [is] to Benjamin, and a tribe is not blotted out from Israel;" <sup>18</sup> and we--we are not able to give to them wives out of our daughters, for the sons of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed [is] he who is giving a wife to Benjamin.. <sup>19</sup> And they say, `Lo, a festival of Yahweh [is] in Shiloh, from time to time, which [is] on the north of Beth-El, at the rising of the sun, by the highway which is going up from Beth-El to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.. ²⁰ And they command the sons of Benjamin, saying, `Go--and you have laid wait in the vineyards, ²¹ and have seen, and lo, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances--then you have gone out from the vineyards, and caught for you each his wife out of the daughters of Shiloh, and gone to the land of Benjamin;" ²² and it has been, when their fathers or their brethren come in to plead unto us, that we have said unto them, Favor us [by] them, for we have not taken [to] each his wife in battle, for you--you have not given to them at this time [that] you are guilty.. ²³ And the sons of Benjamin do so, and take women according to their number, out of the dancers whom they have taken violently away; and they go, and turn back unto their inheritance, and build the cities, and dwell in them. ²⁴ And the sons of Israel go up and down thence at that time, each to his tribe, and to his family; and they go out thence each to his inheritance. ²⁵ In those days there is no king in Israel; each does that which is right in his own eyes.

¹² Guard yourself lest you contract a covenant with the dwellers of the land, to which you are entering, lest it become a trap among you. ¹³ For their altars shall you break down, and their monuments shall you break, and their Asherah poles shall you cut down. ¹⁴ For you shall not bow yourself down to another el (for Yahweh, Jealous is His name; He is a jealous El. ¹⁵ lest you contract a covenant with the dweller of the land when they prostitute after their elohim and sacrifice to their elohim lest one call to you that you eat of his sacrifice. ¹⁶ If you would take of his daughters for your sons and give your daughters to their sons, then his daughters would prostitute after their elohim and cause your sons to prostitute after their elohim.

² when Yahweh your Elohim gives them up before you, and you smite them, then you shall doom, yea doom them. You shall neither contract a covenant with them nor be gracious to them, ³ nor shall you intermarry with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, and you shall not take his daughter for your son.

³⁰ And Jephthah vows a vow to Yahweh, and said, `If You do at all give the Bene-Ammon into my hand-. ³¹ then it has been, that which at all comes out from the doors of my house to meet me in my turning back in peace from the Bene-Ammon--it has been to Yahweh, or I have offered up for it--a burnt-offering..

¹ And all the sons of Israel go out, and the company is assembled as one man, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and the land of Gilead, unto Yahweh, at Mizpeh.

⁸ And all the people rise as one man, saying, `None of us does go to his tent, and none of us does turn aside to his house;"

¹⁰ and we have taken ten men of a hundred, of all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand of a myriad, to receive provision for the people, to do, at their coming to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly which it has done in Israel..

⁵ And the sons of Israel say, `Who [is] he that has not come up in the assembly out of all the tribes of Israel unto Yahweh?' for the great oath has been concerning him who has not come up unto Yahweh to Mizpeh, saying, `He is surely put to death..

⁷ what do we do for them--for those who are left--for wives, and we--we have sworn by Yahweh not to give to them of our daughters for wives?.

¹⁸ and we--we are not able to give to them wives out of our daughters, for the sons of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed [is] he who is giving a wife to Benjamin..

²⁴ And the men of Israel have been distressed on that day, and Saul adjures the people, saying, `Cursed [is] the man who eats food till the evening, and I have been avenged of mine enemies;' and none of the people has tasted food.

²⁸ And a man of the people answers and said, `Your father certainly adjured the people, saying, Cursed [is] the man who eats food to-day; and the people are weary.. <sup>29</sup> And Jonathan said, `My father has troubled the land; see, I pray you, that mine eyes have become bright because I tasted a little of this honey.

² Do not be rash with your mouth, And your heart must not hasten to bring forth speech before the One, Elohim; For the One, Elohim, is in the heavens, And you are on the earth; Therefore, let your words become few."

² And you have sworn--Yahweh lives, In truth, in judgment, and in righteousness, And blessed themselves in Him have nations, And in Him they boast themselves."

²³ And he swears to her that "Whatsoever you should be requesting me, I will give you, to the half of my kingdom."

¹² Now, day coming on, making a conspiracy, the Jews anathematize themselves, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they should kill Paul."

² For I am testifying to them that they have a zeal of God, but not in accord with recognition."

³⁸ And saying is Esau to his father, "Your one blessing is it, my father? Bless me, me moreover, my father!"Yet silent is Isaac, and lifting is Esau his voice and is lamenting.

¹ And all the company of the sons of Israel are assembled [at] Shiloh, and they cause the tent of meeting to tabernacle there, and the land has been subdued before them.

⁴ And it comes to pass, when the messenger of Yahweh speaks these words unto all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,

¹⁸ And they rise and go up to Beth-El, and ask of Elohim, and the sons of Israel say, `Who does go up for us at the commencement to battle with the sons of Benjamin?' and Yahweh said, `Judah--at the commencement..

²³ And the sons of Israel go up and weep before Yahweh till the evening, and ask of Yahweh, saying, `Do I add to draw nigh to battle with the sons of Benjamin, my brother?' And Yahweh said, `Go up against him..

²⁶ And all the sons of Israel go up, even all the people, and come in to Beth-El, and weep, and sit there before Yahweh, and fast on that day till the evening, and cause to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before Yahweh.

¹² And they find out of the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead four hundred young women, virgins, who have not known man by the lying of a male, and they bring them in unto the camp at Shiloh, which [is] in the land of Canaan.

⁴ And David lifts up--and the people who [are] with him--their voice and weep, till that they have no power to weep.

²⁴ hence all the nations will ask:Why did Yahweh do thus to this land? Why the heat of this great anger?

⁷ And Joshua said, `Ah, Lord Yahweh, why have You at all caused this people to pass over the Jordan, to give us into the hand of the Amorite to destroy us? --and oh that we had been willing--and we dwell beyond the Jordan!" ⁸ Oh, Lord, what do I say, after that Israel has turned the neck before its enemies? ⁹ and the Canaanite and all the inhabitants of the land do hear, and have come round against us, and cut off our name out of the earth; and what do You do for Your great name?.

¹ {Contemplating, Asaphic{ Why, O Elohim, have You cast us off permanently? Shall Your anger smolder long against the flock of Your pasture?

¹² Why have You breached its stone dikes, So that all who are passing by the way nip off its fruit?

³ A man's folly subverts his way, And his heart is irate against Yahweh."

¹⁷ Why are You leading us astray, Yahweh, from Your ways? Making our heart indurate to Your fear? Turn back, on account of Your servants, the tribes of Your allotment."

¹ Righteous [are] You, O Yahweh, When I plead towards you, Only, judgments do I speak with You, Wherefore did the way of the wicked prosper? At rest have been all treacherous dealers."

²⁴ An altar of ground soil shall you make for Me, and you will sacrifice on it your ascent offerings and your peace offerings, your flock and your herd. In every place where I shall record My name I shall come to you and will bless you. ²⁵ And if you shall make an altar of stones for Me you shall not build it with them trimmed; in case you have swung your sword against it, then you have profaned it.

²⁶ and you have built an altar to Yahweh your Elohim on the top of this stronghold, by the arrangement, and have taken the second bullock, and caused to ascend a burnt-offering with the wood of the shrine which you cut down..

¹⁸ And Gad comes in unto David on that day, and said to him, `Go up, raise to Yahweh an altar in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite;.

²⁵ and David builds there an altar to Yahweh, and causes to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and Yahweh is entreated for the land, and the plague is restrained from Israel.

⁶⁴ On that day has the king sanctified the middle of the court that [is] before the house of Yahweh, for he has made there the burnt-offering, and the present, and the fat of the peace-offerings; for the altar of brass that [is] before Yahweh [is] too little to contain the burnt-offering, and the present, and the fat of the peace-offerings.

³⁴ Whenever He killed them, then they sought after Him, And they returned and sought early for El." ³⁵ Then they remembered that Elohim is their Rock, And El, the Supreme, is their Redeemer."

¹⁵ For I will go and return to My place till they are pleading guilty, and they seek My face. In their distress they will seek Me early, saying:"

¹⁰ We have an altar from which they have no right to be eating, who offer divine service in the tabernacle."

²⁸ Every devoted thing which a man may devote to Yahweh, of all which is his of human and beast and of the field of his holding, it shall not be sold nor redeemed. Every devoted thing, it will be holy of holies to Yahweh. ²⁹ Every doomed one which is doomed of humanity shall not be ransomed; he shall be put to death, yea death.

²³ Curse Meroz--said a messenger of Yahweh, Cursing, curse you its inhabitants, For they came not to the help of Yahweh, To the help of Yahweh among the mighty!"

¹ And the men of Israel have sworn in Mizpeh, saying, `None of us does give his daughter to Benjamin for a wife..

⁷ and he takes a couple of oxen, and cuts them in pieces, and sends through all the border of Israel, by the hand of the messengers, saying, `He who is not coming out after Saul and after Samuel--thus it is done to his oxen;' and the fear of Yahweh falls on the people, and they come out as one man.

¹⁰ Cursed [is] he who is doing the work of Yahweh slothfully, And cursed [is] he Who is withholding his sword from blood."

³⁵ And it comes to pass, when he sees her, that he rends his garments, and said, `Alas, my daughter, you have caused me greatly to bend, and you have been among those troubling me; and I--I have opened my mouth unto Yahweh, and I am not able to turn back..

¹⁵ And the people repented concerning Benjamin, for Yahweh had made a breach among the tribes of Israel.

²⁶ and Abner calls unto Joab, and said, `For ever does the sword consume? have you not known that it is bitterness in the latter end? and till when do you not say to the people to turn back from after their brethren?.

⁸ How shall I dispense to you, Ephraim? Shall I award you, Israel? How shall I dispense to you as Admah? Shall I make you as Zeboim? My heart is turned in Me; my comfortings are fervid together."

⁴¹ And as He draws near, perceiving the city, He laments over it, ⁴² saying that, "If you knew, even you, and surely in this day, what is for your peace-! Yet now it was hid from your eyes,

⁴⁵ And the people say unto Saul, `Does Jonathan die who wrought this great salvation in Israel? --a profanation! Yahweh lives, if there falls from the hair of his head to the earth, for with Elohim he has wrought this day;' and the people rescue Jonathan, and he has not died.

¹ And Nahash the Ammonite comes up, and encamps against Jabesh-Gilead, and all the men of Jabesh say unto Nahash, `Make with us a covenant, and we serve you.. <sup>2</sup> And Nahash the Ammonite said unto them, `For this I covenant with you, by picking out to you every right eye--and I have put it a reproach on all Israel.. ³ And the elders of Jabesh say to him, `Let us alone seven days, and we send messengers into all the border of Israel:and if there is none saving us--then we have come out unto you..

¹¹ And they hear regarding it--the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead--that which the Philistines have done to Saul, ¹² and all the men of valor arise, and go all the night, and take the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Beth-Shan, and come in to Jabesh, and burn them there, ¹³ and they take their bones, and bury [them] under the tamarisk in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

⁵ And David sends messengers unto the men of Jabesh-Gilead, and said unto them, `Blessed [are] you of Yahweh, in that you have done this kindness with your lord, with Saul, that you bury him. <sup>6</sup> `And, now, Yahweh does with you kindness and truth, and also, I do with you this good because you have done this thing;"

¹⁵ then you shall smite, yea smite the dwellers of that city with the edge of the sword. Doom it, all those who are in it and its domestic beasts, with the edge of the sword.

²⁴ And Joshua takes Achan son of Zerah, and the silver, and the robe, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his ox, and his ass, and his flock, and his tent, and all that he has, and all Israel with him, and they cause them to go up the valley of Achor.

³ Now, go, and you have smitten Amalek, and devoted all that it has, and you have no pity on it, and have put to death from man unto woman, from infant unto suckling, from ox unto sheep, from camel unto ass..

¹⁷ And now, kill every male among the little ones, and every woman having known a man (at bed with a male), kill. ¹⁸ Yet every little one among the womenfolk who have not known bed with a male keep alive for yourselves.

³⁴ We seized all his cities at that time, and we doomed every city--adult males, women and little ones--we let not one survivor remain.

⁶⁰ Then He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent He had made to tabernacle among humanity."

¹² But go you, I pray you, Unto My place that [is] in Shiloh, Where I caused My name to dwell at first, And see that which I have done to it, For the wickedness of My people Israel."

¹⁰ When you come near to a city to fight against it then you should call to it for peace.

³² and Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon; all the cities [are] twenty and nine, and their villages.

⁴⁷ and there turn and flee into the wilderness, unto the rock of Rimmon six hundred men, and they dwell in the rock Rimmon four months.

¹⁹ Creator of the produce of the lips, welfare, welfare to the far and to the near,says Yahweh, "and I heal him."

⁵ Now into whatever house you may be entering, first say, 'Peace to this household!'"

¹⁷ And, coming, He brings the evangel of peace to you, those afar, and peace to those near,

² Yet, because of prostitutions, let each man have a wife for himself and each woman have her own husband."

⁶ And the sons of Israel repent concerning Benjamin their brother, and say, `There has been to-day cut off one tribe from Israel,

¹⁷ And they say, `A possession of an escaped party [is] to Benjamin, and a tribe is not blotted out from Israel;"

¹¹ And it is displeasing to David, because Yahweh has made a breach upon Uzza, and one calls that place `Breach of Uzza' unto this day.

¹³ because at the first [it was] not you, Yahweh our Elohim made a breach upon us, because we sought Him not according to the ordinance..

¹³ wherefore, this depravity will come to you as a falling breach, an extrusion in a wall impregnable, of which, suddenly, in an instant, its break is coming."

¹² And built by you shall be places deserted for the eon. The foundations of generation after generation shall you raise. And you shall be called, "Diker of the breach, restorer of tracks you ceased to use."

⁵⁵ Only, by lot shall the land be apportioned. By the names of their fathers' stocks shall they be allotted.

⁷ The allotment of the sons of Israel shall not go around from stock to stock, for the sons of Israel, each one, shall cling to the allotment of his fathers' stock.

¹⁴ Three times shall you celebrate to Me in the year: ¹⁵ you shall observe the celebration of unleavened cakes; seven days shall you eat unleavened cakes, just as I instructed you, at the appointed time in the month Aviv, for in it you went forth from Egypt, and none shall appear before Me empty-handed. ¹⁶ also observe the celebration of the harvest of the firstfruits of your yields from what you are sowing in the field: and observe the celebration of ingathering at the going forth of the year, when you gather your yields from the field.

² Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, The appointed seasons of Yahweh, those which you shall proclaim holy meetings; My appointed seasons, they are these.

⁴ These are the appointed seasons of Yahweh, the holy meetings, those which you shall proclaim at their appointed time.

⁶ And on the fifteenth day of this month is the celebration of unleavened cakes to Yahweh. Seven days shall you eat unleavened cakes.

¹⁰ Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, When you come into the land which I am giving to you and reap its harvest, you will bring a sheaf of the firstfruit of your harvest to the priest.

³⁴ Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, From the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the celebration of booths seven days to Yahweh.

¹⁰ And in the day of your rejoicing, in your appointments and at the beginnings of your months you will blow on bugles over your ascent offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they will be to you for a memorial before your Elohim. I, Yahweh, am your Elohim.

¹⁶ In the first month on the fourteenth day of the month is the passover to Yahweh.

²⁶ On the day of the firstfruits when you bring near a new approach present to Yahweh, in your feast of weeks, you shall come to have a holy meeting when you shall do no occupational work at all.

¹² On the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall come to have a holy meeting when you shall do no occupational work at all, and you will celebrate a celebration to Yahweh for seven days.

¹ You are to observe the month of Aviv and prepare a passover to Yahweh your Elohim, for in the month of Aviv Yahweh your Elohim brought you forth from Egypt by night.

¹⁰ Then you will observe the celebration of weeks to Yahweh your Elohim with a tribute of a voluntary offering from your hand which you shall give, just as Yahweh your Elohim may have blessed you.

¹³ As for the celebration of booths, you shall observe it for yourself seven days when you gather in the yield from your threshing site and from your wine vat.

³¹ And they appoint for them the graven image of Micah, which he had made, all the days of the house of Elohim being in Shiloh.

³ And that man has gone up out of his city from time to time, to bow himself, and to sacrifice, before Yahweh of Hosts, in Shiloh, and there [are] two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh.

³ Blow the trumpet in the new moon, In the full moon for the day of our celebration."

¹ After these things there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up into Jerusalem."

² Now near was the Jews' festival of Tabernacles.

²⁰ Then Miriam, the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the tambourine in her hand, and all the women went forth after her with tambourines and with choruses.

³⁴ And Jephthah comes into Mizpeh, unto his house, and lo, his daughter is coming out to meet him with timbrels, and with choruses, and save her alone, he has none, son or daughter.

⁶ And it comes to pass, in their coming in, in David's returning from smiting the Philistine, that the women come out from all the cities of Israel to sing--also the dancers--to meet Saul the king, with tabrets, with joy, and with three-stringed instruments;"

¹⁴ And David is dancing with all strength before Yahweh, and David is girded with a linen ephod,

²¹ And David said unto Michal, `--Before Yahweh, who fixed on me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me leader over the people of Yahweh, and over Israel, --yea, I played before Yahweh;"

³ May they praise His Name in chorus; With tambourine and harp may they make melody to Him.

⁴ Praise Him with tambourine and in chorus; Praise Him with lute and shepherd's pipe.

⁴ A season to weep and a season to sport; A season to wail and a season to dance;

¹³ Then rejoice does a virgin in a chorus, Both young men and old men--together, And I have turned their mourning to joy, And have comforted them, And gladdened them above their sorrow,

¹⁷ Now take heed of men, for they will be giving you up to Sanhedrins, and in their synagogues will they be scourging you."

²⁵ Yet first He must be suffering many things and be rejected by this generation.

²⁷ And creating is the Elohim humanity in His image. In the image of the Elohim He creates it. Male and female He creates them.

¹³ On this very day come Noah, and Shem, Ham, and Japheth, Noah's sons, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons, with them, into the ark,

¹⁴ and Benjamin turns back at that time, and they give to them the women whom they have kept alive of the women of Jabesh-Gilead, and they have not found for [all of] them so.

²⁵ It is a trap when a man is rash to pledge a holy donation, And only after making his vows to make a quest into it."

⁶ Yet from the beginning of creation God makes them male and female. ⁷ On this account a man will be leaving his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, ⁸ and the two will be one flesh. So that no longer are they two, but one flesh."

⁹ because of love I am rather entreating, being such a one as Paul the aged, yet now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus." ¹⁰ I am entreating you concerning my child, whom I beget in my bonds, ¹¹ Onesimus, who once was useless to you, yet now is useful to you as well as to me, ¹² whom I send back to you. Him - this means my very compassions - take to yourself,

⁴⁸ And the men of Israel have turned back unto the sons of Benjamin, and smite them by the mouth of the sword out of the city, --men unto cattle, unto all that is found; also all the cities which are found they have sent into fire.

⁸ You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, each man everything that is upright in his own eye.

⁶ in those days there is no king in Israel, each that which is right in his own eyes does.

¹ In those days there is no king in Israel, and in those days the tribe of the Danite is seeking for itself an inheritance to inhabit, for [that] has not fallen to it unto that day in the midst of the tribes of Israel by inheritance.

⁷ And the five men go, and come in to Laish, and see the people which [is] in its midst, dwelling confidently, according to the custom of Zidonians, quiet and confident; and there is none putting to shame in the land in [any] thing, possessing restraint, and they [are] far off from the Zidonians, and have no word with [any] man.

¹ And it comes to pass, in those days, when there is no king in Israel, that there is a man a Levite, a sojourner in the sides of the hill-country of Ephraim, and he takes to him a wife, a concubine, out of Beth-Lehem-Judah;"

⁴ Who say, With our tongue we shall have mastery; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?

⁵ Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, And do not lean to your own understanding."

¹² There is a way that seems straight before a man, Yet the ways of death are the end of it."

⁹ Rejoice, choice youth, in your childhood, And let your heart be well in the days of your prime; Walk in the ways of your heart and by the sight of your eyes, Yet know that for all these the One, Elohim, shall bring you into judgment."

¹ Woe to devisers of lawlessness and contrivers of evil on their beds! In the light of the morning are they executing it, for it is at the disposal of their hand." ² And they covet fields and snatch them, and houses, and bear them away, and they extort the master and his house, the man and his allotment."
