¹ How the gold is tarnished! the good certified gold is altered; The holy stones are strewn about at the head of all the streets. ² The precious sons of Zion, those classed with glittering gold, How they are accounted as earthenware crocks, the work of the hands of a potter!" ³ Even wild-jackals offer forth the breast; they suckle their whelps; But the daughter of my people is cruel like ostriches in the wilderness; ⁴ The tongue of the suckling clings to its palate from thirst; Infants beg for bread; there is no one spreading it out to them. ⁵ Those who ate dainties are desolated in the streets; Those who were fostered in crimson embrace hearth dung. ⁶ Indeed the depravity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom, Which was overturned as in a moment though no hands travailed against it!" ⁷ Her Nazirites were purged more than snow; they were more shimmering than milk; In bodily staunchness they were more ruddy than rubies, their long-beard like sapphire." ⁸ Now their visage is darker than soot; they are not recognized in the streets; Their skin is shrunken over their bones, is dried up; it has become like wood." ⁹ Better off were they who were slain by the sword than those slain by famine, Those who are succumbing, stabbed from lack of produce of the field." ¹⁰ The hands of compassionate women cook their own children; They become a repast for them in the brokenness of the daughter of my people. ¹¹ Yahweh has made His fury whole; He has poured out His hot anger; And He is ravaging with fire in Zion which is devouring its foundations. ¹² The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any of the dwellers of the habitance, That foe and enemy could enter into the gateways of Jerusalem." ¹³ Because of the sins of her prophets, the depravities of her priests, Who were pouring out within her the blood of the righteous, ¹⁴ They rove about blind in the streets; they are sullied with blood, So that no one dare touch their clothing;" ¹⁵ Go away! unclean! they call out to them; go away! go away! do not touch! Because they wander forth and rove about, men say among the nations:They shall not continue to sojourn here." ¹⁶ The face of Yahweh has made them split up; He shall not continue to look upon them; They have not respected the priests; they have not favored the elders. ¹⁷ Furthermore for us our eyes are exhausted looking for our help in vain; From our watchtower we watched for a nation which could not save us. ¹⁸ They hunt our steps, keeping us from walking in our squares; Our end draws near; our days reach their fill; indeed our end has come." ¹⁹ Our pursuers have become fleeter than the vultures of the heavens; They dash after us upon the mountains; they lie in ambush for us in the wilderness. ²⁰ The spirit of our nostrils, the anointed of Yahweh, he is seized in their pits, Of whom we said:In his shadow we shall live among the nations." ²¹ Be elated and rejoice, daughter of Edom, you who are dwelling in the country of Uz; To you also shall pass the cup of Yahweh; you shall become drunk and denude yourself." ²² Your wretchedness will come to end, daughter of Zion; He shall not continue to carry you away into exile; He will note your depravity, daughter of Edom; He will expose your sins."

⁷ And forming is Yahweh Elohim the human of soil from the ground, and He is blowing into his nostrils the breath of the living, and becoming is the human a living soul.

³³ And you I shall winnow among the nations, and I will unsheathe a sword after you so that your land will become a desolation and your cities become a desert. ³⁴ Then the land shall accept its sabbaths all the days of its desolation when you are in the land of your enemies. Then the land shall pause for a sabbath and cause its missing sabbaths to be accepted. ³⁵ All the days of its desolation it shall pause for a sabbath, which days it did not pause in your sabbath years when you dwelt on it. ³⁶ As for the remainder among you, I will also bring timidity into their heart in the lands of their enemies so that the sound of a leaf being whisked away will pursue them, and they will flee as if in flight from the sword; they will fall even when there is no one pursuing. ³⁷ They will stumble, a man over his brother, as though in view of the sword when there is no pursuer, and you shall come to have no standing space before your enemies. ³⁸ You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will devour you. ³⁹ The remainder among you shall be putrid over their depravity in the lands of your enemies, and also over the depravities of their fathers with them shall they be putrid.

² Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them:In case a man or a woman should make an extraordinary vow, the Nazirite vow, to sequester himself to Yahweh, ³ from wine and intoxicant shall he sequester himself. Vinegar of wine and vinegar of an intoxicant he shall not drink, and any other liquid of grapes he shall not drink, and grapes, sappy or dried, he shall not eat. ⁴ All the days of his sequestration from all which is made from the vine, the wine from pips as well as grape-skin he shall not eat. ⁵ All the days of his Nazirite vow no razor shall pass over his head; until the days are fulfilled in which he is sequestering himself to Yahweh he shall come to be holy, letting the locks of the hair of his head grow great. ⁶ All the days of his sequestration to Yahweh he shall not come near a dead soul. ⁷ Even for his father or for his mother, for his brother or for his sister, he shall not defile himself for them at their death, because the symbol of sequestration to his Elohim is on his head. ⁸ All the days of his sequestration he is holy to Yahweh. ⁹ In case someone dying should die near him in an instant, suddenly, so that he defiles his head of sequestration, then he will shave his head on the day of his cleansing. On the seventh day shall he shave it. ¹⁰ And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtledoves or two dove squabs to the priest, at the opening of the tent of appointment. ¹¹ The priest will offer one for a sin offering and one for an ascent offering, and he will make a propitiatory shelter over him because of that which he had sinned concerning the dead soul. Then he will hallow his head on that da. ¹² and sequester himself to Yahweh for the days of his sequestration and bring a year-old he-lamb for a guilt offering. Yet the former days shall fall out because his sequestration was unclean. ¹³ This is the law of the Nazirite on the day of fulfilling the days of his sequestration. One shall bring him to the opening of the tent of appointment. ¹⁴ He will bring near his approach present to Yahweh, one flawless he-lamb, a year-old, for an ascent offering, and one flawless ewe-lamb, a year-old, for a sin offering, and one flawless ram for peace offerings, ¹⁵ also a tray of unleavened, perforated cakes of flour mingled with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and their approach present and their libations. ¹⁶ Then the priest will bring them near before Yahweh and offer his sin offering and his ascent offering. ¹⁷ He shall offer the ram as a sacrifice of peace offerings to Yahweh along with the tray of unleavened cakes. And the priest will offer his approach present and his libation. ¹⁸ Then the Nazirite will shave his head of sequestration at the opening of the tent of appointment; he will take the hair of his head of sequestration and put it on the fire which is under the sacrifice of peace offerings. ¹⁹ The priest will take the cooked shank from the ram and one unleavened, perforated cake from the tray and one unleavened wafer, and he will put them on the palms of the Nazirite after he has shaved himself of his sequestration symbol. ²⁰ The priest will wave them as a wave offering before Yahweh. It is holy for the priest in addition to the chest of the wave offering and the leg of the heave offering. Thereafter the Nazirite may drink wine. ²¹ This is the law of the Nazirite who vows his approach present to Yahweh at his sequestration, aside from what his hand can afford. Corresponding to his vow which he vows, so shall he do concerning the law of his sequestration.

Why the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then some will answer:Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh Elohim of their fathers, that He had contracted with them when He brought them forth from the country of Egypt, ²⁶ for they went off and served other elohim and bowed themselves down to them, elohim whom they had neither known, nor had He apportioned for them. ²⁷ Hence the anger of Yahweh grew hot against that land so as to bring upon it all the malediction that is written in this scroll. ²⁸ So Yahweh plucked them up off their ground in anger, in fury and in great wrath, and He flung them into another country as it is this day.

²¹ As for them, they make Me jealous with a non-el. They provoke Me to vexation with their idols of vanity. As for Me, I shall make them jealous with a non-people; with a decadent nation shall I cause them vexation. ²² For a fire will be kindled by My anger, and it shall glow unto the unseen beneath; it shall devour the earth and its crop, and it shall set aflame the foundations of the mountains. ²³ I shall cause evils to sweep up over them; I shall exhaust My arrows among them ²⁴ who are gaunt with famine, fought by pestilence and bitter sting:Even the tooth of beasts shall I send among them along with the venom of skulkers of the soil.

¹⁹ for Yahweh has humbled Judah because of Ahaz king of Israel, for he made free with Judah, even to commit a trespass against Yahweh.

³ Against Your people are they carrying on deliberation in craftiness, And they are intriguing against Your secluded ones." ⁴ They say, Come, and let us suppress them as a nation, So that the name of Israel shall not be remembered any more." ⁵ For they have intrigued in heart together; Against You are they contracting a covenant, ⁶ The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagarites, ⁷ Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the dwellers of Tyre;" ⁸ Even Assyria is allied with them; They have become an arm to the sons of Lot. {Interlude{ ⁹ Do to them as You did to Midian, as to Sisera, As to Jabin at the Wadi Kishon:" ¹⁰ They were exterminated at Endor; They became manure for the ground. ¹¹ As for their patrons, set them down like Oreb and like Zeeb, And all their sovereigns like Zebah and like Zalmunna, ¹² Who said, Let us tenant for ourselves The oases of Elohim."

⁹ Unless Yahweh of hosts reserves for us a few survivors, as Sodom would we become, and to Gomorrah would we be likened." ¹⁰ Hear the word of Yahweh, captains of Sodom! Give ear to the law of Elohim, you people of Gomorrah!"

¹⁵ And when you spread your palms to Me, I will obscure My eyes from you. Moreover, in case you are increasing your prayers, there is no hearing by Me. Your hands are full of blood. Amidst your fingers extrudes lawlessness."

¹⁶ And saying is Yahweh, "Inasmuch as haughty are the daughters of Zion, and going with a stretched-out throat and falsifying eyes, to go and trip are they going, and with their feet are they tinkling their anklets." ¹⁷ So my Lord Yahweh will abase the scalp of the daughters of Zion, and Yahweh their enticement will make naked in that day." ¹⁸ And my Lord will take away the beauty of their covering, and their ornaments, the anklets and the networks and the crescents, ¹⁹ and the drops, and the navel ornaments, and the spangles, ²⁰ and the tiaras, and the stepping chains, and the ribbons, and the refreshment vials and the charm whistles, ²¹ and the rings and nose pendants, ²² and the costumes and the lounging robes, and the shawls and the wallets, ²³ and the rolls and the shirts, and the turbans and the draperies." ²⁴ And instead of the aromatics, coming is putrefaction, and instead of a girdle skirt, coming is a girth, and instead of the doing of a coiffure, baldness, and instead of rich attire, a girding of sackcloth, branding instead of loveliness." ²⁵ Your shameful death-doomed by the sword shall fall, and your masters in the war." ²⁶ And complain and mourn shall your portals, and empty on the earth shall you sit."

²⁶ And He lifts up a banner for nations from afar, and He hisses for one from the outmost part of the earth, and, behold! Hastily, fleetly is it coming." ²⁷ None is faint and none is stumbling in it. None is slumbering nor sleeping, nor is opened the belt of his loins, nor is pulled away the lacing of his sandals;" ²⁸ whose arrows are whetted, and all their bows are bent. The hoofs of his horses as rock are reckoned, and his chariot wheels as a sweeping whirlwind."

¹⁴ And Yahweh will cut off from Israel head and tail, frond and rush in one day." ¹⁵ The elder and reputable, he is the head, and a prophet directing with falsehood, he is the tail." ¹⁶ And they are coming to make this people happy, leading them astray, and those being made happy will be swallowed up."

¹² How you have fallen from the heavens! Howl, son of the dawn! You are hacked down to the earth, defeater of all nations!"

⁵ And they are dismayed and ashamed because of Ethiopia, their trust, and because of Egypt, their beauty."

⁶ Therefore an imprecation devours the land, and dwellers in it are guilty. Therefore the dwellers are drained out of the land, and there remain but a bit of the mortals." ⁷ Mournful is the grape juice; enfeebled is the vine. Sigh does every rejoicing heart. ⁸ Cease does the elation of tambourines. Left off is the tumult of the joyous. Cease does the elation of the harp. ⁹ Ashamed, they are drinking no wine. And the intoxicant is bitter to its drinkers." ¹⁰ Broken is every town--a chaos. Locked is every house against entry. ¹¹ Yelling over the wine is in the streets; the eventide is it for all rejoicing. Deported is all the elation of the land. ¹² And there remains in the city, desolation, and houses, forsaken, perish, and a tumult is pounding the gate."

¹⁰ For Yahweh has libated on you a spirit of stupor. And He is restraining your eyes, that is, the prophets, and your heads, the vision seers, He covers." ¹¹ And to you are all visions becoming as the words of a sealed scroll, which they are giving him acquainted with the scroll, saying, "Read this, pray.And he says, "I cannot, for it is sealed." ¹² And the scroll is given to one who is not acquainted with the scroll, saying, "Read this, pray.And he says, "I am not acquainted with a scroll."

¹ Woe, stubborn sons!averring is Yahweh, "To make counsel, yet not from Me, and to libate a libation, yet not of My spirit, that they may add sin on sin!" ² Going down to Egypt, yet they do not ask at My mouth, to be strong in the stronghold of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!" ³ Yet become, for you, shall the stronghold of Pharaoh for shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt for confounding." ⁴ For his chiefs come to be in Zoan, and his messengers are attaining Hanes." ⁵ All are ashamed of a people who are not benefiting them, not for help, and not for benefit, for they are for shame, and even for reproach." ⁶ The load of the beasts of the south rim; in a land of distress and aridity and constraint, the parent lion and the long maned lion are there, yet no water. The puff adder and the burning serpent are making flight. They are bearing on the shoulders of donkeys their estate, and on the humps of camels their treasures, to a people who are not benefiting them for help, but for shame and for reproach." ⁷ And Egypt in vain and for naught is helping you. Wherefore I call as to this, "Their audacity shall cease!"

¹⁴ And it is broken as the breaking of a potter's crock. Pounding He will not spare. And, when it has been pounded, a shard will not be found to bank a fire from glowing coals, or to bare the water from a pool."

¹⁶ And saying are you, `No. For on horses will we flee,' therefore you shall flee. And `On the fleet will we ride.' Therefore fleet shall be your pursuers." ¹⁷ One thousand in view of the rebuke of one shall flee, and in view of the rebuke of five, ten thousand of you will flee, till you should be left as a mast on the summit of a mountain, and as a banner on a hill."

¹ Woe to those going down to Egypt for help! On horses are they leaning, and trusting in chariots, for they are many, and on horsemen, for they are very staunch. And they do not heed the Holy One of Israel, and of Yahweh Elohim they do not inquire." ² Yet, moreover, He is wise, and will bring evil, and His words He does not take away, and He rises against the house of the evil doers, and against the help of the contrivers of lawlessness." ³ Yet Egyptians are human and not the El, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When Yahweh is stretching out His hand, then the helper falters; and he who is helped falls. And, together, all of them will be finished."

⁹ Tranquil women, rise and hear My voice! Trusting daughters, give ear to My sayings!" ¹⁰ In days over a year shall you be disturbed, trusting women, for vanish will the vintage, the gathering will fail to come in." ¹¹ Tremble, tranquil women! Be disturbed, trusting women! Strip and be naked, with a girdle skirt on the loins!" ¹² Beat in wailing on the breasts, over the coveted fields, over the fruitful vine, ¹³ over the ground of My people where thorn and buckthorn are coming up, over all the houses of elation, of the joyous town." ¹⁴ For the citadel shall be abandoned. The throng of the city shall forsake it. The hump and lookout become caves, in the future, till the eon; an elation of wild asses, a pasture for droves,

¹ Draw near, you nations, to hear! And you folkstems, attend! Hear shall the earth and its fulness! Behold! On Edom shall it descend, and on the people I doom for judgment." ⁶ The sword of Yahweh will be full of blood. It lubricates itself from the fat of lambs, and from the blood of butting rams and he-goats, from the fat of kidneys of rams. For there shall be a sacrifice to Yahweh in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom." ⁷ And down come the uruses with them, and the young bulls with the bulls, and their land will be soaked with blood, and their soil shall be sleek from fat." ⁸ For a day of vengeance is it for Yahweh, a year of repayments for the contention of Zion." ⁹ And its watercourses will be turned into pitch, and its soil into sulphur, and its land shall become as pitch, ¹⁰ and shall be consumed by night and by day, and it will not be quenched for the eon; its smoke shall ascend from generation to generation, and it shall be deserted permanently, for permanence, and no one shall pass in it." ¹¹ Yet the pelican shall tenant it and the hedgehog, and the eagle owl and the raven shall roost in it. And leveling tape of chaos shall stretch out over it, and the plumb stones of vacancy." ¹² And its notables nowhere shall call it a kingdom, and all its chiefs shall come to a limit." ¹³ And briars shall come up in its citadels, the sting nettle and the thistle in its fortresses. And it becomes a homestead of jackals, and a court for the ostrich." ¹⁴ And falcons shall encounter each other in arid places, and the hairy goat shall call to its associate. Yea, there shall lull the hoot owl, and find for itself a rest." ¹⁵ There shall nest the scops owl, and it lays and hatches and sets in its shadow. Yea, there shall the black kites be convened, the dam with her mate." ¹⁶ Inquire from the scroll of Yahweh and read:None of them shall be deranged. The dam does not miss her mate. For the mouth of Yahweh instructs them, and His spirit, it convenes them." ¹⁷ And He will cast the lot for them, and His hand will apportion it to them by a tape level. Till the eon shall they tenant it; for generation after generation shall they roost in it."

⁹ Therefore, far is judgment from them, and justice is not overtaking them. They are expecting light, and behold! darkness. Brightness, yet in gloom are they going." ¹⁰ They are fumbling as the blind for the side wall, and, as if they have no eyes, they are fumbling. They stumble at noon as in the gloaming, among the stoutest as the death-doomed." ¹¹ They are clamoring as bears--all of them. And as doves are they cooing, yea cooing. "We are expecting judgment, yet there is none. And salvation is far from us."

¹⁸ And no further shall violence be heard in your land, devastation and breaking within your boundaries. And you call your walls "Salvation,and your gates "Praise."

¹ Who is This, coming from humanity, with fermented garments from the vintage? This One, in His clothing of honor, marching in the vastness of His vigor?I, speaking in righteousness, and contending to save!" ² For what reason is there red on Your clothing, and Your garments are as the treader's in a wine trough? ³ The winepress I trod alone, and of the peoples there is no man `with Me, and I am treading them in My anger, and trampling them in My fury, and their gore is spattering on My garments, and all My clothing I sully." ⁴ For the day of vengeance came for them, and the year of My redeemed has come." ⁵ And I am looking, and there is no helper, and I am regarding, and there is no supporter, and My own arm is saving for Me, and My fury, it supports Me!" ⁶ And I am trampling peoples in My anger. And I am making them drunk in My fury, and down to the earth am I bringing their gore."

²⁰ For from of old you have broken your yoke, Drawn away your bands, and say, `I do not serve,' For, on every high height, and under every green tree, You are wandering--a harlot."

³⁴ Also in your skirts has been found the blood of innocent needy souls, Not by digging have I found them, but upon all these."

¹ And Yahweh said unto me:Though Moses and Samuel should stand before Me, My soul is not toward this people, Send from before My face, and they go out." ² And it has come to pass, when they say to you, Whither do we go out? that you have said unto them, Thus said Yahweh:Those who [are] for death--to death, And those who are for the sword, to the sword, And those who are for famine, to famine, And those who are for captivity, to captivity." ³ And I have appointed over them four kinds, an affirmation of Yahweh, The sword to slay, and the dogs to drag, And the fowl of the heavens, And the beast of the earth, to consume and to devour." ⁴ And I have given them for a trembling To all kingdoms of the earth, Because of Manasseh son of Hezekiah king of Judah, For that which he did in Jerusalem."

³ and have said, Hear a word of Yahweh, you kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Thus said Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:`Lo, I am bringing in evil on this place, at which the ears of every one who is hearing it do tingle, <sup>4</sup> because that they have forsaken Me, and make known this place, and make perfume in it to other elohims, that they knew not, they and their fathers, and the kings of Judah, and they have filled this place [with] innocent blood, <sup>5</sup> and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons with fire, burnt-offerings to Baal, that I commanded not, nor spoke of, nor did it come up on My heart." <sup>6</sup> `Therefore, lo, days are coming--an affirmation of Yahweh--and this place is not called any more, Tophet, and Valley of the son of Hinnom, but, Valley of slaughter." ⁷ And I have made void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and have caused them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those seeking their life, and I have given their carcase for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth, ⁸ and I have made this city for a desolation, and for a hissing, every passer by it is astonished, and does hiss for all its plagues." ⁹ And I have caused them to eat the flesh of their sons, and the flesh of their daughters, and each the flesh of his friend they do eat, in the siege and in the straitness with which straiten them do their enemies, and those seeking their life."

¹¹ For both prophet and priest have been profane, Yea, in My house I found their wickedness, An affirmation of Yahweh." ¹² Therefore is their way to them as slippery places, Into thick darkness they are driven, And they have fallen in it, For I bring in against them evil, The year of their inspection, An affirmation of Yahweh." ¹³ And in prophets of Samaria I have seen folly, They have prophesied by Baal, And cause my people--Israel--to err." ¹⁴ And in prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing, Committing adultery, and walking falsely, Yea, they strengthened the hands of evil doers, So that they have not turned back Each from his wickedness, They have been to me--all of them--as Sodom, And its inhabitants as Gomorrah." ¹⁵ Therefore, thus said Yahweh of Hosts, concerning the prophets:Lo, I am causing them to eat wormwood, And have caused them to drink water of gall, For, from prophets of Jerusalem Has profanity gone forth to all the land." ¹⁶ Thus said Yahweh of Hosts:You do not hearken unto the words Of the prophets who are prophesying to you, They are making you vain things, A vision of their own heart they speak, Not from the mouth of Yahweh." ¹⁷ Saying diligently to those despising The word of Yahweh:Peace is for you, And [to] every one walking in the stubbornness of his heart they have said:Evil does not come in unto you." ¹⁸ For who has stood in the counsel of Yahweh, And sees and hears His word? ¹³ and he burns the house of Yahweh, and the house of the king, and all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great house he has burned with fire,

⁷ Jerusalem remembers in the days of her humiliation and her homelessness, all her coveted things that were from days of long ago, When her people fell into the hand of the foe, and there was no help for her. The foes saw her; they made sport of her dissolution."

¹¹ All her people are sighing, seeking bread; They have given their coveted things for food to restore the soul; See, O Yahweh, and look on me, for I have become abject."

¹⁹ I called to my lovers; they deceived me; My priests and my elders deceased in the city While they sought food for themselves that they might restore their soul.

⁸ Yahweh has designed to ruin the wall of the daughter of Zion; He has stretched out the measuring tape; He has not turned back His hand from dismantling; So He makes the rampart and wall mourn; together they are enfeebled. ⁹ Her gates have sunk into the earth; He destroyed and broke her bars; Her king and her chiefs are among the nations; there is no law. Also her prophets find no vision from Yahweh.

¹¹ My eyes are exhausted with tears; my bowels are in turmoil; My liver is poured out on the earth over the brokenness of the daughter of my people, While the infant and suckling droop in the town squares;" ¹² They are saying to their mothers, Where is grain and wine? While they droop like the wounded in the city squares, While their soul is poured out on their mothers' bosom."

¹⁴ Your prophets envision for you futility and trumpery, And they do not expose your depravity to reverse your captivity, But they are envisioning for you loads of futility and false inducements."

¹⁷ Yahweh has done what He had planned; He has carried through His saying, What He determined from days long ago; He has demolished and has not spared; And He is making the enemy rejoice over you; He exalts the horn of your foes."

¹⁹ Arise, make appeal in the night at the beginning of the vigils; Pour out your heart like water before the presence of Yahweh; Lift your palms to Him for the soul of your infants who droop in famine at the head of every street." ²⁰ See, O Yahweh, and look at those whom You have dealt severely thus; Should women be eating their own fruit, their infants cradled in arms? Should priest and prophet be killed in the sanctuary of Yahweh? ²¹ They lie on the earth of the streets, youth and elder, My virgins and my choice young men, they have fallen by the sword; You have killed in the day of Your anger; You have slaughtered and have not spared;"

⁴⁸ My eye runs down with rillets of water at the brokenness of the daughter of my people.

⁵² My enemies hunt, yea hunt me like a bird, gratuitously;"

¹ How the gold is tarnished! the good certified gold is altered; The holy stones are strewn about at the head of all the streets. ² The precious sons of Zion, those classed with glittering gold, How they are accounted as earthenware crocks, the work of the hands of a potter!" ³ Even wild-jackals offer forth the breast; they suckle their whelps; But the daughter of my people is cruel like ostriches in the wilderness;

⁶ Indeed the depravity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom, Which was overturned as in a moment though no hands travailed against it!"

⁹ Better off were they who were slain by the sword than those slain by famine, Those who are succumbing, stabbed from lack of produce of the field." ¹⁰ The hands of compassionate women cook their own children; They become a repast for them in the brokenness of the daughter of my people.

²¹ Be elated and rejoice, daughter of Edom, you who are dwelling in the country of Uz; To you also shall pass the cup of Yahweh; you shall become drunk and denude yourself." ²² Your wretchedness will come to end, daughter of Zion; He shall not continue to carry you away into exile; He will note your depravity, daughter of Edom; He will expose your sins."

¹⁰ Our skin is fervid like a stove in view of the simoons of famine.

¹² Chiefs are hung by their hands; the face of the old is not honored.

¹⁰ Therefore fathers do eat sons in your midst, And sons eat their fathers, And I have done in you judgments, And have scattered all your remnant to every wind."

² An end, come has the end on the four corners of the land." ³ Now [is] the end unto you, And I have sent Mine anger upon you, And judged you according to your ways, And set against you all your abominations." ⁴ And no pity on you has Mine eye, nor do I spare, For your ways against you I do set, And your abominations are in your midst, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh." ⁵ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Evil, a single evil, lo, it has come." ⁶ An end has come, come has the end, It has waked for you, lo, it has come." ⁷ Come has the morning unto you, O inhabitant of the land! Come has the time, near [is] a day of trouble, And not the shouting of mountains." ⁸ Now, shortly I pour out My fury on you, And have completed Mine anger against you, And judged you according to your ways, And set against you all your abominations." ⁹ And not pity does Mine eye, nor do I spare, According to your ways unto you I give, And your abominations are in your midst, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh the smiter." ¹⁰ Lo, the day, lo, it has come, Gone forth has the morning, Blossomed has the rod, flourished the pride." ¹¹ The violence has risen to a rod of wickedness, There is none of them, nor of their multitude, Nor of their noise, nor is there wailing for them." ¹² Come has the time, arrived has the day, The buyer does not rejoice, And the seller does not become a mourner, For wrath [is] unto all its multitude."

¹⁹ Their silver into out-places they cast, And their gold impurity becomes. Their silver and their gold is not able to deliver them, In a day of the wrath of Yahweh, Their soul they do not satisfy, And their bowels they do not fill, For the stumbling-block of their iniquity it has been." ²⁰ As to the beauty of his ornament, For excellency He set it, And the images of their abominations, Their detestable things--they made in it, Therefore I have given it to them for impurity, ²¹ And I have given it into the hand of the strangers for a prey, And to the wicked of the land for a spoil, And they have polluted it." ²² And I have turned My face from them, And they have polluted My hidden place, Yea, come into it have destroyers, and polluted it."

¹³ And I have spread My net for him, and he has been caught in My snare, and I have brought him in to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, and it he does not see--and there does he die."

²² `Son of man, what [is] this simile to you, concerning the land of Israel, saying, Prolonged are the days, and perished has every vision? ²³ therefore say unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:I have caused this simile to cease, And they use it not as a simile again in Israel, But speak to them:Drawn near have the days, And spoken has every vision."

²⁷ `Son of man, lo, the house of Israel are saying, The vision that he is seeing [is] for many days, and of times far off he is prophesying,

⁴⁸ I live--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, Sodom your sister has not done--she and her daughters--As you have done--you and your daughters." ⁴⁹ Lo, this has been the iniquity of Sodom your sister, Arrogancy, fulness of bread, and quiet ease, Have been to her and to her daughters, And the hand of the afflicted and needy She has not strengthened." ⁵⁰ And they are haughty and do abomination before Me, And I turn them aside when I have seen."

¹⁸ And he despised the oath--to break covenant, And lo, he has given his hand, And all these he has done, he escapes not."

⁴ And hear of it do nations, In their pit it has been caught, And they bring it in with chains unto the land of Egypt." ⁵ And she sees, that stayed--perished has her hope, And she takes one of her whelps, A young lion she has made it." ⁶ And it goes up and down in the midst of lions, A young lion it has been, And it learns to tear prey, man it has devoured." ⁷ And it knows his forsaken habitations, And their cities it has laid waste, And desolate is the land and its fulness, Because of the voice of his roaring." ⁸ And set against it do nations Round about from the provinces. And they spread out for it their net, In their pit it has been caught."

⁴⁷ and you have said to the forest of the south:Hear a word of Yahweh:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am kindling in you a fire, And it has devoured in you every moist tree, and every dry tree, Not quenched is the glowing flames, And burnt by it have been all faces from south to north." ⁴⁸ And seen have all flesh, that I, Yahweh, have kindled it--it is not quenched.'"

²⁶ Its priests have wronged My law, And they pollute My holy things, Between holy and common they have not made separation, And between the unclean and the clean they have not made known, And from my sabbaths they have hidden their eyes, And I am pierced in their midst." ²⁷ Its princes in its midst [are] as wolves, Tearing prey, to shed blood, to destroy souls, For the sake of gaining dishonest gain." ²⁸ And its prophets have daubed for them with chalk, Seeing a vain thing, and divining for them a lie, Saying, `Thus said the Lord Yahweh:' And Yahweh has not spoken."

³¹ And I pour out on them mine indignation, By fire of My wrath I have consumed them, Their way on their own head I have put, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh!'"

²³ And your bonnets [are] on your heads, And your shoes [are] on your feet, You do not mourn nor do you weep, And you have wasted away for your iniquities, And you have howled one unto another."

⁶ For thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because of your clapping the hand, And of your stamping with the foot, And you rejoice with all your despite in soul Against the ground of Israel,

⁸ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because of the saying of Moab and Seir:Lo, as all the nations [is] the house of Judah;"

¹² Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because of the doings of Edom, In taking vengeance on the house of Judah, Yea, they are very guilty, And they have taken vengeance on them." ¹³ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:I have stretched out My hand against Edom, And I have cut off from it man and beast, And given it up--a waste, from Teman even to Dedan, By sword they do fall." ¹⁴ And I have given My vengeance on Edom, By the hand of My people Israel, And they have done in Edom, According to My anger, and according to My fury, And they have known My vengeance, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh."

² Because that Tyre has said of Jerusalem:Aha, she has been broken, the doors of the peoples, She has turned round unto me, I am filled--she has been laid waste,

⁶ And known have all inhabitants of Egypt That I [am] Yahweh, Because of their being a staff of reed to the house of Israel." ⁷ In their taking hold of you by your hand, --you are crushed, And have rent to them all the shoulder, And in their leaning on you you are broken, And have caused all their thighs to stand."

¹⁶ And it is no more to the house of Israel for a confidence, Bringing iniquity to remembrance, By their turning after them, And they have known that I [am] the Lord Yahweh.'"

¹⁰ And you, son of man, say unto the house of Israel:Rightly you have spoken, saying:Surely our transgressions and our sins [are] on us, And in them we are wasting away, How, then, do we live?

³ and you have said to it:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I [am] against you, O mount Seir, And have stretched out My hand against you, And made you a desolation and an astonishment." ⁴ Your cities a waste I make, and you are a desolation, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh." ⁵ Because of your having an enmity eonian, And you do saw the sons of Israel, By the hands of the sword, In the time of their calamity, In the time of the iniquity of the end:" ⁶ Therefore, I live--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, Surely for blood I do appoint you, And blood does pursue you, If blood you have not hated, Blood also does pursue you." ⁷ And I have given mount Seir for a desolation and an astonishment, And have cut off from it him who is passing over and him who is returning, ⁸ And filled his mountains with his wounded, Your hills, and your valleys, and all your streams, The pierced of the sword fall into them." ⁹ Desolations eonian I make you, And your cities do not return, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh."

¹¹ Therefore, I live--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, And I have done according to your anger, And according to your envy, With which you have wrought, Because of your hatred against them, And I have been known among them when I judge you." ¹² And you have known that I--Yahweh, I have heard all your despisings that you have spoken Against mountains of Israel, saying:A desolation, to us they were given for food." ¹³ And you magnify yourselves against Me with your mouth, And have made abundant against Me your words, I--I have heard." ¹⁴ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:According to the rejoicing of the whole land, A desolation I make of you." ¹⁵ According to your joy at the inheritance of the house of Israel because of desolation, So I do to you--a desolation you are, O mount Seir, and all Edom--all of it, And they have known that I [am] Yahweh!"

²⁸ And known have the nations that I Yahweh am sanctifying Israel, In My sanctuary being in their midst--to the eon!'"

¹⁵ and at the end of ten days, their appearance is seen to be better and plumper in flesh than any of the boys who are eating the king's dainties."

¹² Hence He is setting up His words, which He speaks concerning us and concerning our judges who judge us, to bring on us this great evil which is not done under the entire heavens as it is done in Jerusalem."

² Imprecation and dissimulation and murder and stealing and adultery breach forth in the land, and blood touches blood."

¹ To your mouth with the trumpet! One as a vulture is over the house of Yahweh, because they trespass against My covenant, and against My law they transgress."

⁶ Before its face are the peoples travailing; all faces are feverish with frustration.

¹¹ Thus says Yahweh, Due to three transgressions of Edom, and due to four, I will not turn it back, due to his pursuing his brother with the sword, since he ruins his own compassions. His anger is preying into the future, and his rage, he keeps it permanently."

¹¹ And I am raising of your sons to be prophets, and of your choice men to be Nazirites. Indeed, is not this so, you sons of Israel? (averring is Yahweh)." ¹² Yet you are giving the Nazirite wine to drink, and the prophets you instruct, saying, You shall not prophesy."

¹⁴ Yet fleeing shall perish from the fleet one, and the steadfast shall not make his vigor resolute, and the master shall not escape with his soul,

³ You are those isolating the day of evil, yet you are bringing the seat of violence closer;" ⁴ those lying on couches of ivory, and who extend themselves on their divans, and are eating the butting lambs from the flock, and the calves from the midst of the stall;" ⁵ those twanging at the bidding of the zither, as David, they devise for themselves instruments of song;" ⁶ those drinking wine in sprinkling bowls, and who are anointing with the principal oils, yet are not ill over the breaking of Joseph." ⁷ Wherefore, now shall they be deported at the head of the deportations, and the vociferation of those who extend themselves shall withdraw."

² And he is saying, What are you seeing Amos? And I am saying, A crate of summer fruit. And Yahweh is saying to me, The end comes for My people Israel. I will not continue still to pass by them,

¹ I see Yahweh stationed over the altar, and He is saying, Smite the sphere-like capital, and the thresholds will quake; clip them at the head, all of them, and I will kill the hindmost of them with the sword. He shall not flee with those who are fleeing, and he shall not escape with those who are delivered." ² If they are burrowing into the unseen, thence My hand will take them. And if they are ascending to the heavens, thence will I bring them down." ³ And if they are hiding in the summit of Carmel, thence will I search and take them. And if they are concealed from in front of My eyes on the floor of the sea, thence will I instruct the serpent, and it will bite them."

¹ The vision of Obadiah. Thus says my Lord Yahweh concerning Edom:We hear a report from Yahweh, and an agent is sent among the nations. Rise! And let us rise against her for battle!"

¹⁰ Because of wrong done to your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off for the eon." ¹¹ In the day that you stood aloof, in that day aliens captured his army, and foreigners entered his gateways, and over Jerusalem they handled the lot. Moreover, you were as one of them!" ¹² Yet you must not stare in the day of your brother, in the day of his disaster. And you must not rejoice over the sons of Judah, in the day of their destruction. And you must not magnify your mouth, in the day of distress." ¹³ You must not enter into the gateway of My people, in the day of their calamity. Moreover, you must not see his evil, in the day of his calamity. And you must not be set to fight against his army, in the day of his calamity." ¹⁴ And you must not stand at the breach to cut off his delivered ones. And you must not enclose his survivors, in the day of distress." ¹⁵ For near is the day of Yahweh over all the nations. Just as you do, it shall be done to you. Your requital shall return on your own head." ¹⁶ For just as you drink on My holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink turbid wine, and they shall drink and swallow absinth, and they shall become as if not having become."

¹¹ Pass away! To you, dweller of Saphir, is naked shame! The dweller of Zaanan will not fare forth. The wailing of Beth-ezel will take from you its standpoint."

⁶ Wherefore night shall be for you, without a vision, and it shall be dark for you, without divining, and the sun shall set on the prophets, and the day shall be somber on them." ⁷ And the vision seers shall be ashamed, and the diviners shall be abashed, and all of them shall muffle over the upper lip, for there is no answer from Elohim."

¹¹ her heads are judging for a bribe, and her priests are directing for a price, and her prophets are divining for money, and on Yahweh they are leaning, saying:Is not Yahweh within us? Evil shall not come on us." ¹² Wherefore, due to you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become rubbish heaps, and the mountain of the house fane heights of a wildwood."

¹⁰ She is void and voided and evacuated:And the heart is melted, and a quavering of the knees, and a sore travail in all waists, and the faces of them all draw together in frustration."

⁸ His horses are fleeter than leopards and sharper than evening wolves, and his horsemen are diffused; and his horsemen will come from far. They will fly as a vulture that hurries to eat."

³ Her chiefs within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they pick clean, leaving nothing for the morning." ⁴ Her prophets are ebullient, treacherous mortals; her priests profane the holy place; they wrong the law."

⁶ Yea, My words and My statutes, which you have received, which I instruct, by My spirit, My servants the prophets, did they not overtake your forefathers? And they are turning away and are saying:Just as Yahweh of hosts plans to do to us, as fits our ways and our actions, so He does with us."

¹³ For I bend Judah for Myself; I fill the bow with Ephraim. And I will brandish your sons, O Zion, over your sons, O Javan, and make you as the sword of a master."

² I love you, says Yahweh. Yet you say, In what way do you love us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? (averring is Yahweh), yet I am loving Jacob, ³ yet Esau I hate. And I will make his mountains a desolation, and his allotment is for the jackals of the wilderness." ⁴ Though Edom shall say, We are destitute, yet we will return and will build the deserted places, thus says Yahweh of hosts:They will build, yet I will demolish. And they will call them Boundary of wickedness and The people whom Yahweh menaces till the eon."

⁹ Or what man is there among you, from whom his son will be requesting bread-no stone will he be handing him!" ¹⁰ Or he will be requesting a fish also-no serpent will he be handing him! ¹¹ If you, then, being wicked, have perceived how to be giving good gifts to your children, how much rather shall your Father Who is in the heavens be giving good things to those requesting Him?

²³ And you, Capernaum! Not to heaven shall you be exalted! To the unseen shall you subside, for, if the powerful deeds which are occurring in you had occurred in Sodom, it might remain unto today." ²⁴ Moreover, I am saying to you that for the land of Sodom shall it be more tolerable in the day of judging than for you."

¹⁴ Leave them! Blind guides are they of the blind! Now if the blind should be guiding the blind, both shall be falling into a pit."

³¹ So that you are testifying to yourselves that you are the sons of those who murder the prophets.

³³ Serpents! Progeny of vipers! How may you be fleeing from the judging of Gehenna? ³⁴ Therefore, lo! I am dispatching to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Of them, some you will be killing and crucifying, and of them, some you will be scourging in your synagogues and persecuting from city to city, ³⁵ so that on you should be coming all the just blood shed on the earth, from the blood of just Abel until the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murder between the temple and the altar." ³⁶ Verily, I am saying to you: All these things will be arriving on this generation." ³⁷ Jerusalem! Jerusalem! who art killing the prophets and pelting with stones those who have been dispatched to her! How many times do I want to assemble your children in the manner a hen is assembling her brood under her wings-and you will not!"

² Yet He, answering, said to them, "Are you not observing all these? Verily, I am saying to you, Under no circumstances may a stone here be left on a stone, which shall not be demolished."

²¹ for then shall be great affliction, such as has not occurred from the beginning of the world till now; neither under any circumstances may be occurring."

²⁷ For even as the lightning is coming out from the east and is appearing as far as the west, thus shall be the presence of the Son of Mankind." ²⁸ Wheresoever the corpse may be, there will the vultures be gathered."

² And answering, Jesus said to him, "Are you observing these great buildings? Under no circumstances may a stone be left here on a stone, which may not by all means be demolished."

¹⁵ for he shall be great in the sight of the Lord. And wine and intoxicant may he under no circumstances be drinking, and with holy spirit shall he be filled while still of his mother's womb."

²⁵ But what do you come out to perceive? A man garbed in soft garments? Lo! those in glorious vesture and inhering in luxury are among the royal.

¹² Now I am saying to you that it will be more tolerable for Sodom in that day than for that city.

⁴⁷ Woe to you! for you are building the tombs of the prophets, yet your fathers kill them." ⁴⁸ Consequently you are witnesses and are endorsing the acts of your fathers, for they, indeed, kill them, yet you are building their tombs." ⁴⁹ Therefore, also, God's Wisdom said, 'I shall be dispatching to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will be killing and banishing,'" ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets which is shed from the disruption of the world may be exacted from this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the house. Yea, I am saying to you, It will be exacted from this generation!"

⁴⁷ Now that slave who knows the will of his lord and does not make ready, nor yet does aught with a view to his will, shall have many lashes."

¹⁶ And he yearned to be satisfied with the little carob pods which the hogs ate, and no one gave to him."

¹⁹ Now a certain man was rich and he dressed in purple and cambric, daily making merry splendidly."

⁵ And at some saying concerning the sanctuary, that it is adorned with ideal stones and votive offerings, He said, ⁶ These which you are beholding-there will be coming days in which not a stone will be left here on a stone, which will not be demolished."

²² for days of vengeance are these, to fulfill all that is written."

²⁸ Now being turned toward them, Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem! Do not lament over Me! However, over yourselves lament, and over your children, ²⁹ for lo! coming are days in which they will be declaring, 'Happy are the barren, and the wombs which bear not, and the breasts which do not nourish!'"

⁵² Which of the prophets do not your fathers persecute? And they kill those who announce before concerning the coming of the Just One, of Whom now you became the traitors and murderers -"

³¹ unintelligent, perfidious, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:"

²¹ Or has not the potter the right over the clay, out of the same kneading to make one vessel, indeed, for honor, yet one for dishonor? ²² Now if God, wanting to display His indignation and to make His powerful doings known, carries, with much patience, the vessels of indignation, adapted for destruction, ²³ it is that He should also be making known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He makes ready before for glory -"

⁷ Now we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the transcendence of the power may be of God and not of us."

¹⁸ their comprehension being darkened, being estranged from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the callousness of their hearts,

¹⁵ who kill the Lord Jesus as well as the prophets, and banish us, and are not pleasing to God, and are contrary to all men, ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the nations that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always. Yet the indignation outstrips to them to a consummation."

⁶ Yet she who is a prodigal, though living, is dead."

²⁰ Now in a great house there are not only gold and silver utensils, but wooden and earthenware also, and some indeed for honor, yet some for dishonor."

⁹ Not in accord with the covenant which I make with their fathers In the day of My taking hold of their hand To be leading them out of the land of Egypt, Seeing that they do not remain in My covenant, And I neglect them,the Lord is saying,

¹⁵ ("Lo! I am coming as a thief! Happy is he who is watching and keeping his garments, that he may not be walking naked and they may be observing his indecency!") "

⁷ As much as she glorifies herself and indulges, so much torment and mourning be giving her, for she is saying in her heart, 'I am sitting a queen, and am no widow, and mourning I may by no means see.'" ⁸ Therefore in one day shall her calamities be arriving; death and mourning and famine. And she shall be burned up with fire, for strong is the Lord God Who judges her." ⁹ And the kings of the earth, who commit prostitution and indulge with her, will be lamenting and grieving over her whenever they may be observing the smoke of her conflagration,
