³ And taking him, they lash him and dispatch him empty."

⁴ and it comes to pass, in Jezebel's cutting off the prophets of Yahweh, that Obadiah takes a hundred prophets, and hides them, fifty men in a cave, and has sustained them with bread and water-.

¹³ `Has it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel's slaying the prophets of Yahweh, that I hide of the prophets of Yahweh a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?

¹⁰ And he said, `I have been very zealous for Yahweh, Elohim of Hosts, for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant--Your altars they have thrown down, and Your prophets they have slain by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life--to take it..

²⁷ and you have said, Thus said the king, Place you this one in the house of restraint, and cause him to eat bread of oppression, and water of oppression, till my coming in peace..

¹⁰ And Asa is angry at the seer, and gives him to the house of torture, for [he is] in a rage with him for this; and Asa oppresses [some] of the people at that time.

¹⁹ And He sends among them prophets, to bring them back unto Yahweh, and they testify against them, and they have not given ear;" ²⁰ and the Spirit of Elohim has clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stands over-against the people, and said to them, `Thus said Elohim, Why are you transgressing the commands of Yahweh, and prosper not? because you have forsaken Yahweh--He does forsake you.. ²¹ And they conspire against him, and stone him with stones by the command of the king, in the court of the house of Yahweh,

¹⁶ and they are mocking at the messengers of Elohim, and despising His words, and acting deceitfully with His prophets, till the going up of the fury of Yahweh against His people--till there is no healing.

²⁶ `And they are disobedient, and rebel against You, and cast Your law behind their back, and Your prophets they have slain, who testified against them, to bring them back unto You, and they do great despisings,

³⁰ In vain I have smitten your sons, Instruction they have not accepted, Devoured has your sword your prophets, As a destroying lion."

² and Pashhur smites Jeremiah the prophet, and puts him unto the stocks, that [are] by the high gate of Benjamin, that [is] by the house of Yahweh."

²⁰ `And also there has been a man prophesying in the name of Yahweh, Urijah son of Shemaiah, of Kirjath-Jearim, and he prophesies against this city, and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah, ²¹ And the king Jehoiakim, and all his mighty ones, and all the heads, hear his words, and the king seeks to put him to death, and Urijah hears, and fears, and flees, and goes in to Egypt." ²² And the king Jehoiakim sends men to Egypt--Elnathan son of Achbor, and men with him unto Egypt--" ²³ And they bring out Urijah from Egypt, and bring him in unto the king Jehoiakim, and he smites him with a sword, and casts his corpse unto the graves of the sons of the people.'" ²⁴ Only, the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan has been with Jeremiah so as not to give him up into the hand of the people to put him to death."

²⁶ Yahweh has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, for there being inspectors of the house of Yahweh, for every one mad and making himself a prophet, and you have put him unto the torture and unto the stocks."

¹⁵ and the heads are wroth against Jeremiah, and have smitten him, and put him in the prison-house--the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it they had made for a prison-house." ¹⁶ When Jeremiah has entered into the house of the dungeon, and unto the cells, then Jeremiah dwells there many days,

⁴ And the heads say unto the king, `Let, we pray you, this man be put to death, because that he is making feeble the hands of the men of war, who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking unto them according to these words, for this man is not seeking for the peace of this people, but for its evil.'" <sup>5</sup> And the king Zedekiah said, `Lo, he [is] in your hand:for the king is not able for you [in] anything.'" ⁶ And they take Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah son of the king, that [is] in the court of the prison, and they send down Jeremiah with cords; and in the pit there is no water, but mire, and Jeremiah sinks in the mire."

⁴ `And I send unto you all my servants, the prophets, rising early and sending, saying:I pray you, do not this abomination that I have hated--" ⁵ and they have not hearkened nor inclined their ear, to turn back from their wickedness, not to make perfume to other elohims,

¹⁶ `The word that you have spoken unto us in the name of Yahweh--we are not hearkening unto you;

¹⁰ We do not hearken to the voice of Yahweh our Elohim, to go in His laws which He sets before us by the hand of His servants the prophets." ¹¹ All Israel--they trespass against Thy law to withdraw so as not to hearken to Thy voice. Hence pouring forth on us is the imprecation and the oath which is written in the law of Moses, the servant of Elohim; for we sin against Him."

⁹ Thus speaks Yahweh of hosts, saying:Judge with true judgment, and with kindness and compassion deal each man with his brother, ¹⁰ and you must not extort from a widow or orphan or the sojourner or the humble. And you must not devise evil, each man to his brother, in your heart." ¹¹ Yet they are refusing to attend, and they are giving a stubborn shoulder, and their ears they make heavy against hearing, ¹² and their hearts they make corundum against hearing the law and the words which Yahweh of hosts sent by His spirit, by the hand of the former prophets. And great wrath is coming from Yahweh of hosts." ¹³ And it is coming, just as he calls and they did not hear, so are they calling, and I am not hearing, says Yahweh of hosts."

³⁴ Therefore, lo! I am dispatching to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Of them, some you will be killing and crucifying, and of them, some you will be scourging in your synagogues and persecuting from city to city, ³⁵ so that on you should be coming all the just blood shed on the earth, from the blood of just Abel until the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murder between the temple and the altar." ³⁶ Verily, I am saying to you: All these things will be arriving on this generation." ³⁷ Jerusalem! Jerusalem! who art killing the prophets and pelting with stones those who have been dispatched to her! How many times do I want to assemble your children in the manner a hen is assembling her brood under her wings-and you will not!"

⁴⁷ Woe to you! for you are building the tombs of the prophets, yet your fathers kill them." ⁴⁸ Consequently you are witnesses and are endorsing the acts of your fathers, for they, indeed, kill them, yet you are building their tombs." ⁴⁹ Therefore, also, God's Wisdom said, 'I shall be dispatching to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will be killing and banishing,'" ⁵⁰ that the blood of all the prophets which is shed from the disruption of the world may be exacted from this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the house. Yea, I am saying to you, It will be exacted from this generation!"

³³ Moreover, I must be going today and tomorrow and the coming one, for it is not credible that a prophet perish outside of Jerusalem." ³⁴ Jerusalem! Jerusalem! killing the prophets and pelting with stones those who have been dispatched to her! How many times do I want to assemble your children in the manner a hen does her brood under her wings, and you will not!"

¹⁰ And in season he dispatches to the farmers a slave, that they shall give him of the fruit of the vineyard. Yet the farmers, lashing him, send him away empty." ¹¹ And, in addition, he sent a different slave. Yet that one also, lashing and dishonoring, those men send away empty." ¹² And, in addition, he sent a third. Yet wounding this one also, those men cast him out."

⁵² Which of the prophets do not your fathers persecute? And they kill those who announce before concerning the coming of the Just One, of Whom now you became the traitors and murderers -"

¹⁵ who kill the Lord Jesus as well as the prophets, and banish us, and are not pleasing to God, and are contrary to all men,

³⁶ Yet others got a trial of scoffings and scourgings, yet still more of bonds and jail." ³⁷ They are stoned, they are sawn, they are tried, they died, murdered by the sword; they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, in want, afflicted, maltreated"
