¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying. ² Send some men ahead of you that they may explore the land of Canaan which I am giving to the sons of Israel. One man, one each for the stock of his fathers, shall you send and everyone a prince among them. ³ So Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran at the bidding of Yahweh; all of them men who were heads of the sons of Israel. ⁴ These were their names:for the stock of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;" ⁵ for the stock of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;" ⁶ for the stock of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;" ⁷ for the stock of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;" ⁸ for the stock of Ephraim, Hosea son of Nun;" ⁹ for the stock of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;" ¹⁰ for the stock of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;" ¹¹ for the stock of Joseph, for the stock of Manasseh, Gaddi son of Susi;" ¹² for the stock of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli;" ¹³ for the stock of Asher, Sethur son of Michael;" ¹⁴ for the stock of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vophsi;" ¹⁵ for the stock of Gad, Geuel son of Machi. ¹⁶ These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to explore the land. And Moses called Hosea son of Nun, Joshua. ¹⁷ Moses sent them to explore the land of Canaan and said to them:Go up this way into the Negev; then you will go up the hill-country ¹⁸ and see the land, what it is, and the people dwelling in it, whether they are courageous or slack, whether they are few or many. ¹⁹ And what about the land in which they are dwelling, whether it is good or bad. And what about the cities in which they are dwelling, whether in encampments or in fortresses. ²⁰ And what about the land, whether it is fertile or lean, whether there are trees in it or not. Encourage yourselves and take some of the fruit of the land. (Now those days were the days of the firstfruits of grapes.. ²¹ So they went up and explored the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob toward Lebo-hamath. ²² When they went up through the Negev they came unto Hebron, where there Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the children of Anak were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan of Egypt.. ²³ When they came back to the watercourse of Eshcol they cut from there a pruned slip with one cluster of grapes and carried it on a slider bar by two, also some of the pomegranates and the figs. ²⁴ That place one called the watercourse of Eshcol on account of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut from there. ²⁵ So they returned from exploring the land at the end of forty days. ²⁶ Then they went and came to Moses, Aaron and to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel at the wilderness of Paran, toward Kadesh. They brought back word to them and to the whole congregation and showed them the fruit of the land. ²⁷ They related to him and said:We came to the land to which you sent us, and indeed it is gushing with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. ²⁸ Only that the people dwelling in the land are strong and the cities are defended and exceedingly great. Moreover, the children of Anak we saw there. ²⁹ Amalek is dwelling in the land of the Negev, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Jebusite and the Amorite are dwelling in the hill-country, and the Canaanite are dwelling by the sea and by the side of the Jordan. ³⁰ Then Caleb quelled the muttering of the people against Moses and said:We should go up, yea up and tenant it, for we are able to prevail against it. ³¹ Yet the men who went up with him said:We are not able to go up against the people, for they are more courageous than we. ³² Thus they brought forth among the sons of Israel disparaging muttering about the land which they had explored, saying:The land through which we passed to explore it, it is a land that is devouring its dwellers; it and all the people whom we saw in its midst were men of great measure. ³³ There we saw the distinguished (the sons of Anak are part of the distinguished ones). And we became, in our own eyes, like grasshoppers; so we became in their eyes.

²⁵ Moses chose men of ability from all Israel and set them as heads over the people, chiefs of thousands, chiefs of hundreds, chiefs of fifties and chiefs of tens.

⁴ And with you shall come to be a man for each stock; each the head of his fathers' house shall he be.

¹⁶ Yahweh said to Moses:Do gather to me seventy men from the elders of Israel of whom you know that they are elders of the people and their superintendents, and take them to the tent of appointment that they station themselves there with you.

⁸ Thus your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land.

¹⁸ and one prince, one prince from each stock, shall you take to allot the land.

¹⁵ So I took the heads of your tribes, men wise and known, and I placed them as heads over you, chiefs of thousands, chiefs of hundreds, chiefs of fifties, chiefs of tens and as superintendents for your tribes.

²² Then you came near to me, all of you, and said:Let us send men before us that they may reconnoiter in the land for us and bring us back word about the way by which we should ascend, and about the cities to which we shall come. ²³ Now the word was good in my eyes, so I took twelve men from you, one man for each tribe. ²⁴ They turned around, ascended toward the hill-country and came back to the watercourse of Eshcol and spied it out. ²⁵ Then they took in their hand some of the fruit of the land and brought it down to us; they brought us back word and said:The land that Yahweh our Elohim is giving to us is good.

¹ And Joshua son of Nun sends from Shittim, two men, spies, silently, saying, `Go, see the land--and Jericho;' and they go and come into the house of a woman, a harlot, and her name [is] Rahab, and they lie down there. <sup>2</sup> And it is told to the king of Jericho, saying, `Lo, men have come in hither to-night, from the sons of Israel, to search the land. ³ And the king of Jericho sends unto Rahab, saying, `Bring out the men who are coming in unto you, who have come into your house, for to search the whole of the land they have come in. <sup>4</sup> And the woman takes the two men, and hides them, and said thus:`The men came in unto me, and I have not known whence they [are];" ⁵ and it comes to pass--the gate is to [be] shut--in the dark, and the men have gone out; I have not known whither the men have gone; pursue you, hasten after them, for you overtake them;. ⁶ and she has caused them to go up on the roof, and hides them with the flax wood, which is arranged for her on the roof. ⁷ And the men have pursued after them the way of the Jordan, by the fords, and the gate they have shut afterwards, when the pursuers have gone out after them. ⁸ And--before they lie down--she has gone up unto them on the roof, ⁹ and she said unto the men, `I have known that Yahweh has given to you the land, and that your terror has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted at your presence. <sup>10</sup> `For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the waters of the Red Sea at your presence, in your going out of Egypt, and that which you have done to the two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan; to Sihon and to Og whom you devoted. ¹¹ And we hear, and melt does our heart, and there has not stood any more spirit in [any] man, from your presence, for Yahweh your Elohim, He [is] Elohim in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath. ¹² `And now, swear you, I pray you, to me by Yahweh--because I have done with you kindness--that you have done, even you, kindness with the house of my father, and have given to me a true token, <sup>13</sup> and have kept alive my father, and my mother, and my brothers, and my sisters, and all that they have, and have delivered our souls from death.. <sup>14</sup> And the men say to her, `Our soul for yours--to die; if you declare not this our matter, then it has been, in Yahweh's giving to us this land, that we have done with you kindness and truth.. ¹⁵ And she causes them to go down by a rope through the window, for her house [is] in the side of the wall, and in the wall she [is] dwelling;" ¹⁶ and she said to them, `To the mountain go, lest the pursuers come upon you; and you have been hidden there three days till the turning back of the pursuers, and afterwards you go on your way.. <sup>17</sup> And the men say unto her, `We are acquitted of this your oath which you have caused us to swear. ¹⁸ lo, we are coming into the land, this line of scarlet thread you do bind to the window by which you have caused us to go down, and your father, and your mother, and your brethren, and all the house of your father you do gather unto you, to the house;" ¹⁹ and it has been, any one who goes out from the doors of your house without, his blood [is] on his head, and we are innocent; and any one who is with you in the house, his blood [is] on our head, if a hand is on him;" ²⁰ and if you declare this our matter, then we have been acquitted from your oath which you have caused us to swear.. ²¹ And she said, `According unto your words, so it [is];' and she sends them away, and they go; and she binds the scarlet line to the window. <sup>22</sup> And they go, and come in to the mountain, and abide there three days until the pursuers have turned back; and the pursuers seek in all the way, and have not found. <sup>23</sup> And the two men turn back, and come down from the hill, and pass over, and come in unto Joshua son of Nun, and recount to him all that has come upon them;" <sup>24</sup> and they say unto Joshua, `Surely Yahweh has given into our hand all the land; and also, all the inhabitants of the land have melted at our presence..

¹⁶ Thereafter the people journeyed from Hazeroth and encamped in the wilderness of Paran.

¹⁹ We journeyed from Horeb and went through all that vast and fear-inspiring wilderness which you saw by way of the Amorite hill-country, just as Yahweh our Elohim had instructed us, and we came as far as Kadesh-barnea.

²³ Now the word was good in my eyes, so I took twelve men from you, one man for each tribe.

²³ And when Yahweh sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying:Ascend and tenant the land that I give to you, then you defied the bidding of Yahweh your Elohim and did not put your trust in Him nor hearken to His voice.

³⁰ Then Caleb quelled the muttering of the people against Moses and said:We should go up, yea up and tenant it, for we are able to prevail against it.

⁶ Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of the explorers of the land, tore their garment.

²⁴ Yet My servant Caleb, inasmuch as there is another spirit with him and he is following fully after Me, I will bring him to the land where he will enter, and his seed shall prepare it for tenancy.

³⁰ you yourselves shall assuredly not come into the land in which I lifted My hand to tabernacle you, none save Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

³⁸ As for Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, they remained alive of those men going to explore the land.

⁶⁵ for Yahweh had said to them that they would die, yea die in the wilderness. And not a man of them was left save Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

¹⁵ Moses spoke to Yahweh, saying. ¹⁶ May Yahweh Elohim of the spirits for all flesh give supervision over the congregation to a man ¹⁷ who may go forth before them and enter before them, and who may bring them forth and bring them in so that the congregation of Yahweh shall not become like a flock for whom there is no shepherd. ¹⁸ Yahweh said to Moses:Take to you Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom there is spirit, and support your hands on him;" ¹⁹ have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the whole congregation and instruct him before their eyes. ²⁰ Put some of your prestige on him so that the whole congregation of the sons of Israel may hearken to him. ²¹ And before Eleazar the priest shall he stand, and he will ask for him the judgment of the Urim before Yahweh. At his bidding shall they go forth and at his bidding they shall enter, he and all the sons of Israel with him, the whole congregation. ²² Moses did just as Yahweh had instructed him. He took Joshua and had him stand him before Eleazar the priest and before the whole congregation. ²³ Then he supported his hands on him and instructed him, just as Yahweh had spoken by means of Moses.

¹⁹ And these are the names of the men:for the stock of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;"

⁷ Moses called to Joshua and said to him before the eyes of all Israel:Be steadfast and be resolute, for you shall bring this people into the land about which Yahweh had sworn to their fathers to give to them, and you shall allot it to them. ⁸ As for Yahweh, He is the One going before you; He Himself shall come to be with you. He shall neither neglect you nor forsake you. You shall neither fear nor be dismayed. ⁹ Then Moses wrote this law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi, the carriers of the coffer of the covenant of Yahweh, and to all the elders of Israel. ¹⁰ And Moses instructed them saying:At the end of seven years, at the appointment of the year of release, at the celebration of booths, ¹¹ when all Israel comes to appear before Yahweh your Elohim in the place that He shall choose, you shall read this law in front of all Israel in their ears. ¹² Assemble the people, the men, the women, the little ones and your sojourner who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn:they must fear Yahweh your Elohim and must observe to keep all the words of this law. ¹³ And their sons, who have not known it, they shall hear; they too must learn to fear Yahweh your Elohim all the days that you are alive on the ground where you are crossing over the Jordan to tenant it. ¹⁴ Then Yahweh said to Moses:Behold, near are your days to die. Call Joshua and station yourselves in the tent of appointment, that I may instruct him. So Moses and Joshua went and stationed themselves in the tent of appointment. ¹⁵ Then Yahweh appeared at the tent in a column of cloud; and the column of cloud stood over the opening of the tent. ¹⁶ Yahweh said to Moses:Behold, you are about to lie with your fathers. Yet this people will rise and prostitute after the elohim of the foreigners of the land where they are entering to be among them; and they will forsake Me and annul My covenant that I contracted with them. ¹⁷ My anger will grow hot against them on that day, and I will forsake them and conceal My face from them; then they will come to be devoured, and many evils and distresses will find them. Then they will say on that day:Is it not because our Elohim is not among us that these evils have found us?

⁶ And the sons of Judah come nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite said unto him, `You have known the word that Yahweh has spoken unto Moses the man of Elohim, concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-Barnea. <sup>7</sup> a son of forty years [am] I in Moses, servant of Yahweh, sending me from Kadesh-Barnea, to spy the land, and I bring him back word as with my heart;" <sup>8</sup> and my brethren who have gone up with me have caused the heart of the people to melt, and I have been fully after Yahweh my Elohim;" <sup>9</sup> and Moses swears in that day, saying, If not--the land on which your foot has trodden, to you it is for inheritance, and to your sons--to the eon, for you have been fully after Yahweh my Elohim. <sup>10</sup> `And, now, lo, Yahweh has kept me alive, as He has spoken, these forty and five years, since Yahweh spoke this word unto Moses, when Israel went in the wilderness; and now, lo, I [am] to-day a son of five and eighty years;" ¹¹ yet [am] I to-day strong as in the day of Moses' sending me; as my power then, so [is] my power now, for battle, and to go out, and to come in. ¹² `And now, give to me this hill-country, of which Yahweh spoke in that day, for you did hear in that day, for Anakim [are] there, and cities, great, fenced; if so be Yahweh [is] with me, then I have dispossessed them, as Yahweh has spoken.. ¹³ And Joshua blesses him, and gives Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance, ¹⁴ therefore has Hebron been to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite for an inheritance unto this day, because that he was fully after Yahweh, Elohim of Israel;" ¹⁵ and the name of Hebron formerly [is] Kirjath-Arba (he [is] the great man among the Anakim); and the land has rest from war.

¹³ And to Caleb son of Jephunneh has he given a portion in the midst of the sons of Judah, according to the command of Yahweh to Joshua, [even] the city of Arba, father of Anak--it [is] Hebron. ¹⁴ And Caleb is dispossessing thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, children of Anak, ¹⁵ and he goes up thence unto the inhabitants of Debir; and the name of Debir formerly is Kirjath-Sepher. ¹⁶ And Caleb said, `He who smites Kirjath-Sephar, and has captured it--I have given to him Achsah my daughter for a wife.. <sup>17</sup> And Othniel son of Kenaz, brother of Caleb, does capture it, and he gives to him Achsah his daughter for a wife. <sup>18</sup> And it comes to pass, in her coming in, that she persuades him to ask from her father a field, and she lights from off the ass, and Caleb said to her, `What--to you?. ¹⁹ And she said, `Give to me a blessing; when the land of the south you have given me, then you have given to me springs of waters;' and he gives to her the upper springs and the lower springs.

¹⁵ And sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh:Iru, Elah, and Naam; and sons of Elah, even Kenaz.

¹⁰ And the entire multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense. ¹¹ Now there was seen by him a messenger of the Lord, standing at the right of the altar of incense." ¹² And disturbed was Zechariah at perceiving it, and fear fell on him." ¹³ Now the messenger said to him, "Fear not, Zechariah, because hearkened to is your petition, and your wife Elizabeth shall be bearing you a son, and you shall be calling his name John." ¹⁴ And there will be joy for you, and exultation, and many shall be rejoicing at his birth, ¹⁵ for he shall be great in the sight of the Lord. And wine and intoxicant may he under no circumstances be drinking, and with holy spirit shall he be filled while still of his mother's womb."

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua: Choose men for us and go forth. Fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will be stationed on the summit of the hill with the rod of Elohim in my hand. ¹⁰ Joshua did just as Moses said to him, to fight with Amalek. As for Moses, Aaron and Hur, they ascended the summit of the hill. ¹¹ Now it came to be just as Moses was raising high his hands that Israel had the mastery, and just as he was giving his hands rest then Amalek had the mastery. ¹² When the hands of Moses became heavy, they took a stone and placed it beneath him, and he sat on it. As for Aaron and Hur, they upheld his hands, from this side one and and from that side one. So it came to be that his hands were constant until sunset. " ¹³ Thus Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

¹³ So Moses and Joshua, his minister, rose, and Moses ascended to the mountain of the One, Elohim.

¹⁷ When Joshua heard the voice of the people in their shouting, he said to Moses: The sound of battle is in the camp.

²⁸ Joshua son of Nun, minister of Moses from his prime, answered and said:My lord Moses, forbid them!"

²³ Then He instructed Joshua son of Nun and said:Be steadfast and be resolute! For you shall bring the sons of Israel to the land about which I had sworn to them; and I Myself shall come to be with you.

⁴⁴ Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Hosea son of Nun.

⁹ Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had supported his hands on him. And the sons of Israel hearkened to him and did just as Yahweh had instructed Moses.

¹ And it comes to pass after the death of Moses, servant of Yahweh, that Yahweh speaks unto Joshua son of Nun, minister of Moses, saying, ² `Moses my servant is dead, and now, rise, pass over this Jordan, you, and all this people, unto the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. <sup>3</sup> `Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, to you I have given it, as I have spoken unto Moses. ⁴ From this wilderness and Lebanon, and unto the great river, the river Phrath, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great Sea--the going in of the sun--is your border. ⁵ `No man does station himself before you all days of your life; as I have been with Moses, I am with you, I do not fail you, nor forsake you;" <sup>6</sup> be strong and courageous, for you--you do cause this people to inherit the land which I have sworn to their fathers to give to them. <sup>7</sup> `Only, be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; you do not turn aside from it right or left, so that you do act wisely in every [place] whither you go;" ⁸ the book of this law does not depart out of your mouth, and you have meditated in it by day and by night, so that you do observe to do according to all that is written in it, for then you do cause your way to prosper, and then you do act wisely. ⁹ `Have not I commanded you? be strong and courageous; be not terrified nor affrighted, for with you [is] Yahweh your Elohim in every [place] whither you go..

¹⁶ And they answer Joshua, saying, `All that you have commanded us we do; and unto every [place] whither you do send us, we go;"

¹ And Joshua gathers all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and calls for the elders of Israel, and for its heads, and for its judges, and for its authorities, and they station themselves before Elohim. ² And Joshua said unto all the people, `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, Beyond the River have your fathers dwelt of old--Terah father of Abraham and father of Nachor--and they serve other elohims;" <sup>3</sup> and I take your father Abraham from beyond the River, and cause him to go through all the land of Canaan, and multiply his seed, and give to him Isaac. <sup>4</sup> And I give to Isaac, Jacob and Esau; and I give to Esau mount Seir, to possess it; and Jacob and his sons have gone down to Egypt. <sup>5</sup> And I send Moses and Aaron, and plague Egypt, as I have done in its midst, and afterwards I have brought you out. <sup>6</sup> And I bring out your fathers from Egypt, and you go into the sea, and the Egyptians pursue after your fathers, with chariot and with horsemen, to the Red Sea;" <sup>7</sup> and they cry unto Yahweh, and He sets thick darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brings on them the sea, and covers them, and your eyes see that which I have done in Egypt; and you dwell in a wilderness many days. <sup>8</sup> `And I bring you in unto the land of the Amorite who is dwelling beyond the Jordan, and they fight with you, and I give them into your hand, and you possess their land, and I destroy them out of your presence. ⁹ `And Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, rises and fights against Israel, and sends and calls for Balaam son of Beor, to revile you, <sup>10</sup> and I have not been willing to hearken to Balaam, and he does greatly bless you, and I deliver you out of his hand. <sup>11</sup> `And you pass over the Jordan, and come in unto Jericho, and fight against you do the possessors of Jericho--the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite--and I give them into your hand. ¹² And I send before you the hornet, and it casts them out from your presence--two kings of the Amorite--not by your sword, nor by your bow. ¹³ `And I give to you a land for which you have not labored, and cities which you have not built, and you dwell in them; of vineyards and olive-yards which you have not planted you are eating. <sup>14</sup> `And now, fear you Yahweh, and serve Him, in perfection and in truth, and turn aside the elohims which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve you Yahweh;" ¹⁵ and if wrong in your eyes to serve Yahweh--choose for you to-day whom you do serve; --whether the elohims whom your fathers served, which [are] beyond the River, or the elohims of the Amorite in whose land you are dwelling; and I and my house--we serve Yahweh.. ¹⁶ And the people answer and say, `Far be it from us to forsake Yahweh, to serve other elohims;" <sup>17</sup> for Yahweh our Elohim [is] He who is bringing us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants, and who has done before our eyes these great signs, and does keep us in all the way in which we have gone, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed;" <sup>18</sup> and Yahweh casts out the whole of the peoples, even the Amorite inhabiting the land, from our presence; we also do serve Yahweh, for He [is] our Elohim.. <sup>19</sup> And Joshua said unto the people, `You are not able to serve Yahweh, for an Elohim most holy He [is]; a zealous El He [is]; He does not bear with your transgression and with your sins. ²⁰ When you forsake Yahweh, and have served elohims of a stranger, then He has turned back and done evil to you, and consumed you, after that He has done good to you.. ²¹ And the people said unto Joshua, `No, but Yahweh we do serve.. <sup>22</sup> And Joshua said unto the people, `Witnesses you are against yourselves, that you have chosen for you Yahweh to serve Him (and they say, `Witnesses!'. <sup>23</sup> and, now, turn aside the elohims of the stranger which [are] in your midst, and incline your heart unto Yahweh, Elohim of Israel.. <sup>24</sup> And the people say unto Joshua, `Yahweh our Elohim we serve, and to His voice we hearken.. ²⁵ And Joshua makes a covenant with the people on that day, and lays on it a statute and an ordinance, in Shechem. ²⁶ And Joshua writes these words in the Book of the Law of Elohim, and takes a great stone, and raises it up there under the oak which [is] in the sanctuary of Yahweh. ²⁷ And Joshua said unto all the people, `Lo, this stone is against us for a witness, for it has heard all the sayings of Yahweh which He has spoken with us, and it has been against you for a witness, lest you lie against your Elohim.. ²⁸ And Joshua sends the people away, each to his inheritance. ²⁹ And it comes to pass, after these things, that Joshua son of Nun, servant of Yahweh, dies, a son of a hundred and ten years, ³⁰ and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Serah, which [is] in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the hill of Gaash. ³¹ And Israel serves Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, and who knew all the work of Yahweh which He did to Israel. ³² And the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in the portion of the field which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor father of Shechem, with a hundred kesitah; and they are to the sons of Joseph for an inheritance. ³³ And Eleazar son of Aaron died, and they bury him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him in the hill-country of Ephraim.

⁹ And Moses said to Joshua: Choose men for us and go forth. Fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will be stationed on the summit of the hill with the rod of Elohim in my hand.

⁸ for the stock of Ephraim, Hosea son of Nun;"

¹ The word of Yahweh, which came to Hosea, son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah and Jotham and Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, son of Joash, king of Israel."

²¹ Now she shall be bringing forth a Son, and you shall be calling His name Jesus, for He shall be saving His people from their sins." ²² Now the whole of this has occurred that that may be fulfilled which is declared by the Lord through the prophet, saying: ²³ "Lo! The virgin shall be pregnant
And shall be bringing forth a Son,
And they shall be calling His name 'Emmanuel,'
which is, being construed, "God with us."

⁴⁵ which also our fathers who succeed him, with Joshua, led into the tenure of the nations, whom God thrusts out from the face of our fathers, till the days of David,

²⁵ As He is saying in Hosea also: I shall be calling those who are not My people "My people,And she who is not beloved "Beloved,

⁸ For if Joshua causes them to stop, He would not have spoken concerning another day after these things."

⁹ And journeying goes Abram. And the journey is toward the south-rim.

¹ And up is Abram going from Egypt, he and his wife and all that is his, and Lot with him, to the south-rim.

¹⁰ And the vale of salt fields had wells, asphalt wells. And fleeing are the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah, and falling are they there, and the remainder flee toward the mountain.

²¹ So they went up and explored the land from the wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob toward Lebo-hamath. ²² When they went up through the Negev they came unto Hebron, where there Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the children of Anak were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan of Egypt..

²⁹ Amalek is dwelling in the land of the Negev, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Jebusite and the Amorite are dwelling in the hill-country, and the Canaanite are dwelling by the sea and by the side of the Jordan.

⁴⁰ They rose early in the morning and went up to the summit of the hill-country, saying:Behold us, now we will go up to the place of which Yahweh spoke, for we have sinned.

⁴⁴ Yet the Amorite who was dwelling in that hill-country came forth to meet you; they pursued you just as bees do, and they pounded you in Seir as far as Hormah.

³ and it has gone out unto the south to Maaleh-Akrabbim, and passed over to Zin, and gone up on the south to Kadesh-Barnea, and passed over [to] Hezron, and gone up to Adar, and turned round to Karkaa,

⁹ and afterwards have the sons of Judah gone down to fight against the Canaanite, inhabiting the hill-country, and the south, and the low country;"

¹⁵ And she said to him, `Give to me a blessing; when the south land you have given me--then you have given to me springs of water; and Caleb gives to her the upper springs and the lower springs.

¹⁹ and Yahweh is with Judah, and he occupies the hill-country, but not to dispossess the inhabitants of the valley, for they have chariots of iron.

⁸ Hence I have descended to rescue them from the hand of Egypt and to bring them up from that land to a land good and wide, to a land gushing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.

¹⁴ With good pasture I do feed them, And on mountains of the high place of Israel is their habitation, There do they lie down in a good habitation, And fat pastures they enjoy on mountains of Israel."

²³ When they came back to the watercourse of Eshcol they cut from there a pruned slip with one cluster of grapes and carried it on a slider bar by two, also some of the pomegranates and the figs. ²⁴ That place one called the watercourse of Eshcol on account of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut from there.

³⁰ Then Caleb quelled the muttering of the people against Moses and said:We should go up, yea up and tenant it, for we are able to prevail against it. ³¹ Yet the men who went up with him said:We are not able to go up against the people, for they are more courageous than we.

²⁵ Then they took in their hand some of the fruit of the land and brought it down to us; they brought us back word and said:The land that Yahweh our Elohim is giving to us is good.

⁶ Be steadfast, and be resolute! Do not fear, and do not be terrified because of their presence, for Yahweh your Elohim, He is the One going with you; He shall neither neglect you nor forsake you.

⁶ be strong and courageous, for you--you do cause this people to inherit the land which I have sworn to their fathers to give to them.

⁹ `Have not I commanded you? be strong and courageous; be not terrified nor affrighted, for with you [is] Yahweh your Elohim in every [place] whither you go..

³ And the king of Jericho sends unto Rahab, saying, `Bring out the men who are coming in unto you, who have come into your house, for to search the whole of the land they have come in.

²² And they go, and come in to the mountain, and abide there three days until the pursuers have turned back; and the pursuers seek in all the way, and have not found. ²³ And the two men turn back, and come down from the hill, and pass over, and come in unto Joshua son of Nun, and recount to him all that has come upon them;"

¹¹ `Now, my son, Yahweh is with you, and you have prospered, and have built the house of Yahweh your Elohim, as He spoke concerning you.

²⁵ And they capture fenced cities, and fat ground, and possess houses full of all good, digged-wells, vineyards, and olive-yards, and fruit-trees in abundance, and they eat, and are satisfied, and become fat, and delight themselves in Your great goodness.

³⁵ and they, in their kingdom, and in Your abundant goodness, that You have given to them, and in the land, the large and the fat, that You have set before them, have not served You, nor turned back from their evil doings.

¹ Alack to me! For I become as the gatherings of the straw of the harvest, as the clean-gleanings of the vintage. There is no cluster to eat; my soul yearns for the firstfruit."

⁶ So that we have courage to say, "The Lord is my Helper, and I shall not be afraid of what man shall be doing to me!"

¹ The sons of Israel, the whole congregation, entered the wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people dwelt at Kadesh. Miriam died there and was entombed there.

¹⁴ Just as in the contention of the congregation both of you rebelled against My bidding in the wilderness of Zin to sanctify Me at the waters before their eyes. (These were the waters of Meribah at Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

³⁶ They journeyed from Ezion-geber and encamped in the wilderness of Zin. They journeyed from the wilderness of Zin and encamped in the wilderness of Paran; it is toward Kadesh.

³ Your southward edge will be from the wilderness of Zin along the sides of Edom, and your southward boundary will be from the end of the Salt Sea eastward;" ⁴ your boundary will turn around from the Negev to the ascent of Akrabbim, and it will pass toward Zin (and its border-area will be from the Negev to Kadesh-barnea), and it will go forth to Hazar-addar and pass toward Azmon.

⁵¹ because both of you offended Me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah at Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin, because neither of you hallowed Me in the midst of the sons of Israel.

⁵ and the land of the Giblite, and all Lebanon, at the sun-rising, from Baal-Gad under mount Hermon, unto the going in to Hamath.

¹ And the lot for the tribe of the sons of Judah, for their families, is unto the border of Edom; the wilderness of Zin southward, at the extremity of the south;"

⁹ And Toi king of Hamath hears that David has smitten all the force of Hadadezer,

² Pass to Calneh and see, and go thence to Hamath the great, and go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Or is their boundary greater than your boundary?

¹⁸ And tenting is Abram, and coming and dwelling among the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron. And building is he there an altar to Yahweh.

² And dying is Sarah in the town of Arba, in the vale. (It is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.) And coming is Abraham to wail over Sarah and to lament for her.

¹⁷ Moses sent them to explore the land of Canaan and said to them:Go up this way into the Negev; then you will go up the hill-country

³³ There we saw the distinguished (the sons of Anak are part of the distinguished ones). And we became, in our own eyes, like grasshoppers; so we became in their eyes.

²¹ And Joshua comes at that time, and cuts off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, even from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel; with their cities has Joshua devoted them. ²² There has not been left Anakim in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, were they left.

¹³ And to Caleb son of Jephunneh has he given a portion in the midst of the sons of Judah, according to the command of Yahweh to Joshua, [even] the city of Arba, father of Anak--it [is] Hebron. ¹⁴ And Caleb is dispossessing thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, children of Anak,

¹³ And to the sons of Aaron the priest they have given the city of refuge [for] the man-slayer, Hebron and its suburbs, and Libnah and its suburbs,

¹⁰ and Judah goes unto the Canaanite who is dwelling in Hebron (and the name of Hebron formerly [is] Kirjath-Arba), and they smite Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

¹ And it comes to pass afterwards, that David asks at Yahweh, saying, `Do I go up into one of the cities of Judah?' and Yahweh said unto him, `Go up.' And David said, `Whither do I go up?' and He said, `To Hebron..

¹¹ And the number of the days that David has been king in Hebron, over the house of Judah, is seven years and six months.

¹² In front of their fathers He had performed a marvel, In the country of Egypt, the field of Zoan:"

⁴³ When He placed His signs in Egypt, And His miracles in the field of Zoan."

¹¹ Yea! Foolish are the chiefs of Zoan, the wise counselors of Pharaoh give brutish counsel. How will you say to Pharaoh, "I am a son of the wise, a son of former kings"?

¹³ Foolish are the chiefs of Zoan! Lured away are the chiefs of Noph! They lead Egypt astray, the corner stone of its tribes."

⁴ For his chiefs come to be in Zoan, and his messengers are attaining Hanes."

²⁴ That place one called the watercourse of Eshcol on account of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut from there.

⁹ They went up to the watercourse of Eshcol and saw the land, yet they discouraged the heart of the sons of Israel so as not to enter the land which Yahweh has given to them.

⁴ And it comes to pass afterwards that he loves a woman in the valley of Sorek, and her name [is] Delilah,

¹⁸ So Moses entered into the midst of the cloud and ascended into the mountain. Moses came to be on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

²⁸ And he came to be there before Yahweh, forty days and forty nights. Bread he did not eat and water he did not drink. Thus he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten words.

³³ and your sons shall be shepherds in the wilderness for forty years, and they will bear your prostitutions until your corpses are spent in the wilderness. ³⁴ By the number of the days in which you explored the land, forty days, a day for a year, a day for a year, shall you bear your depravities:forty years; thus you will realize My repudiation.

¹⁶ We cried to Yahweh, and He heard our voice and sent a messenger and brought us forth from Egypt. Now behold, we are at Kadesh, a city at your outmost boundary.

⁶ And the sons of Judah come nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite said unto him, `You have known the word that Yahweh has spoken unto Moses the man of Elohim, concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-Barnea.

¹⁷ Hence I am saying that I shall bring you up from the humiliation of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, to a land gushing with milk and honey.

⁵ It will come to be when Yahweh your Elohim shall have brought you to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Hivite and the Jebusite about which He swore to your fathers to give to you, a land gushing with milk and honey, then you will serve with this service in this month.

³ And I shall bring you into a land gushing with milk and honey. For I shall not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I should finish you on the way.

²⁴ Yet I said to you:You shall tenant their ground, and I Myself shall give it to you to tenant it, a land gushing with milk and honey. I, Yahweh, am your Elohim, Who separates you from the peoples.

⁸ If Yahweh delights in us then He will bring us into this land, and He will give it to us. It is a land which is gushing with milk and honey.

²⁵ Then they took in their hand some of the fruit of the land and brought it down to us; they brought us back word and said:The land that Yahweh our Elohim is giving to us is good. ²⁶ Yet you would not ascend and you defied the bidding of Yahweh your Elohim. ²⁷ You murmured in your tents and said:In Yahweh's hatred of us He brought us forth from the country of Egypt to give us into the hand of the Amorite to exterminate us. ²⁸ Whither are we ascending? Our brothers, they melt our heart by saying:The people are greater and taller than we are; the cities are great and defended to the heavens; and moreover, we saw the sons of the Anakim there. ²⁹ Then I said to you:You should not be terrified, and you should not fear them. ³⁰ Yahweh your Elohim Who is going before you, He Himself shall fight for you according to all that He did for you in Egypt before your eyes, ³¹ and in the wilderness where you saw how Yahweh your Elohim carried you, just as a man carries his son, in all the way you went until you came to this place. ³² Even in this matter you were not believing in Yahweh your Elohim, ³³ Who was going before you in the way to explore for you a place for you to encamp, in fire by night, to show you the way by which you should go, and in a cloud by day.

³ Hear then, Israel, and observe to obey it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply exceedingly, just as Yahweh Elohim of your fathers promised to give to you a land gushing with milk and honey.

⁹ and that you may prolong your days on the ground about which Yahweh had sworn to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land gushing with milk and honey.

⁹ And He brought us to this place and gave to us this land, a land gushing with milk and honey.

¹¹ You will rejoice in all the good that Yahweh your Elohim gives to you and to your household, you and the Levite and the sojourner who is among you. ¹² When you conclude tithing all the tithe from the yield of your land in the third year, the year of the tithe, and you have given to the Levite, to the sojourner, to the orphan and to the widow, that they may eat within your gates and be satisfied, ¹³ then you will say before Yahweh your Elohim:I have taken out the holy gift from the house and have indeed given it to the Levite, to the sojourner, to the orphan and to the widow according to all Your instruction that You have enjoined on me. I have not turned aside from Your instructions, and I have not forgotten. ¹⁴ I have not eaten of it in my sorrow; I have not taken out any of it while unclean, and I have not given of it for the dead. I have hearkened to the voice of Yahweh my Elohim. I have done according to all that You have instructed me. ¹⁵ Gaze from Your holy habitation, from the heavens, and bless Your people Israel and the ground that You have given to us just as You had sworn to our fathers--a land gushing with milk and honey.

³ Then you will write on them all the words of this law when you cross over, that you may enter the land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you, a land gushing with milk and honey, just as Yahweh Elohim of your fathers promised to you.

²⁰ When I shall bring them to the ground gushing with milk and honey about which I had sworn to their fathers, when they eat and are satisfied and are sleek so that they turn around to other elohim and serve them, when they thus spurn Me and annul My covenant,

⁶ for forty years have the sons of Israel gone in the wilderness, till all the nation of the men of war who are coming out of Egypt, who hearkened not to the voice of Yahweh, to whom Yahweh has sworn not to show them the land which Yahweh sware to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey, are consumed;"

⁵ In order to establish the oath that I have sworn to your fathers, To give to them a land flowing with milk and honey, as this day. And I answer and say, `Amen, O Yahweh.'"

²² And you give to them this land that you did swear to their fathers to give to them, a land flowing with milk and honey,

⁶ In that day I did lift up My hand to them, To bring them forth from the land of Egypt, Unto a land that I spied out for them, Flowing with milk and honey, A beauty it [is] to all the lands,

¹⁵ And also, I, I have lifted up My hand to them in the wilderness, Not to bring them in to the land that I had given, Flowing with milk and honey, A beauty it [is] to all the lands,

¹⁰ (The Emim dwelt in it beforetime, a people great and numerous, and as tall as the Anakim. ¹¹ Like the Anakim, they too were accounted as Rephaim, yet the Moabites called them Emim.

²¹ a people great and numerous, and as tall as the Anakim. Yet Yahweh exterminated them before their face that they might tenant in their place and dwell in their stead,

⁵ All these cities were defended by lofty walls, doors and bars, aside from the unwalled villages which were exceedingly numerous.

¹ Hear, Israel! Today you are ready to cross over the Jordan, to enter to tenant in the place of nations greater and more substantial than you, cities great and defended to the heavens, ² a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim whom you know and of whom you have heard it said:Who shall station himself before the sons of Anak?

²² There has not been left Anakim in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, were they left.

¹⁴ And Caleb is dispossessing thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, children of Anak,

²⁰ And they give to Caleb Hebron, as Moses has spoken, and he dispossesses thence the three sons of Anak.

⁷ And returning are they and coming to En-Mishphat (It is now Kadesh). And smiting are they all the chiefs of the Amalekites and, moreover, the Amorites dwelling in Hazezon-tamar.

¹⁹ the Cainite and the Kenizite and the Kadmonite ²⁰ and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim ²¹ and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Hivite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.

⁸ Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. ⁹ And Moses said to Joshua: Choose men for us and go forth. Fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will be stationed on the summit of the hill with the rod of Elohim in my hand. ¹⁰ Joshua did just as Moses said to him, to fight with Amalek. As for Moses, Aaron and Hur, they ascended the summit of the hill. ¹¹ Now it came to be just as Moses was raising high his hands that Israel had the mastery, and just as he was giving his hands rest then Amalek had the mastery. ¹² When the hands of Moses became heavy, they took a stone and placed it beneath him, and he sat on it. As for Aaron and Hur, they upheld his hands, from this side one and and from that side one. So it came to be that his hands were constant until sunset. " ¹³ Thus Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. ¹⁴ Then Yahweh said to Moses: Write this as a reminder in a scroll, and put it in the ears of Joshua that I shall wipe out, yea wipe out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens. ¹⁵ So Moses built an altar and called its name Yahweh-nissi ¹⁶ and said: For a hand is against the throne of Yah; Yahweh has a war with Amalek from generation to generation!

²⁵ Since the Amalekite and the Canaanite are dwelling in the vale, turn around tomorrow and journey; get yourself on to the wilderness, the Sea of Weeds road.

⁴³ For the Amalekite and the Canaanite are there before you, and you will fall by the sword. Because you have turned back from following Yahweh, Yahweh shall not be with you.

⁴⁵ The Amalekite and the Canaanite, dwelling in that hill-country, descended, smote them and pounded them as far as Hormah.

²⁰ When he saw Amalek, he took up his discourse and said:First of the nations was Amalek, yet his hereafter will lead unto perishing.

³ And it has been, if Israel has sowed, that Midian has come up, and Amalek, and the sons of the east, yea, they have come up against him,

⁴⁸ And he makes a force, and smites Amalek, and delivers Israel out of the hand of its spoiler.

³ Now, go, and you have smitten Amalek, and devoted all that it has, and you have no pity on it, and have put to death from man unto woman, from infant unto suckling, from ox unto sheep, from camel unto ass.. ⁴ And Saul summons the people, and inspects them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand [are] men of Judah. ⁵ And Saul comes in unto a city of Amalek, and lays wait in a valley;" ⁶ and Saul said unto the Kenite, `Go, turn aside, go down from the midst of Amalek, lest I consume you with it, and you did kindness with all the sons of Israel, in their going up out of Egypt;' and the Kenite turns aside from the midst of Amalek. ⁷ And Saul smites Amalek from Havilah--your going in to Shur, which [is] on the front of Egypt, ⁸ and he catches Agag king of Amalek alive, and all the people he has devoted by the mouth of the sword;" ⁹ and Saul has pity--also the people--on Agag, and on the best of the flock, and of the herd, and of the seconds, and on the lambs, and on all that [is] good, and have not been willing to devote them; and all the work, despised and wasted--it they devoted.

¹ And it comes to pass, in the coming in of David and his men to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites have pushed unto the south, and unto Ziklag, and smite Ziklag, and burn it with fire,

⁷ Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the dwellers of Tyre;"

⁶ Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of the explorers of the land, tore their garment. ⁷ and said to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, saying:The land through which we passed to explore it is a very, very good land. ⁸ If Yahweh delights in us then He will bring us into this land, and He will give it to us. It is a land which is gushing with milk and honey. ⁹ Only against Yahweh do not revolt, and you, do not fear the people of the land, for they are our bread. Their protecting shadow has withdrawn from over them, and Yahweh is with us. Do not fear them.

⁶ And the sons of Judah come nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite said unto him, `You have known the word that Yahweh has spoken unto Moses the man of Elohim, concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-Barnea. ⁷ a son of forty years [am] I in Moses, servant of Yahweh, sending me from Kadesh-Barnea, to spy the land, and I bring him back word as with my heart;" ⁸ and my brethren who have gone up with me have caused the heart of the people to melt, and I have been fully after Yahweh my Elohim;"

¹ {Davidic{ Yahweh is my Light and my Salvation; Whom should I fear? Yahweh is the Stronghold of my life; Of whom should I be afraid? ² When evildoers drew near against me To devour my flesh, They who were to me my foes and my enemies, They stumbled and fell."

¹² With Elohim shall we do valiantly, For He Himself shall trample our foes. {Permanent{ {With Accompaniment{ "

¹⁰ All nations, they have surrounded me; It was with the Name of Yahweh That I cut them off." ¹¹ They surrounded me; indeed they surrounded me; It was with the Name of Yahweh That I cut them off.

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you, and you must not take heed for yourself, for I am your Elohim. I make you resolute; indeed, I help you. Indeed, I uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.'" ¹¹ Behold! Ashamed and confounded shall all be who were hot with you. They are coming to be as nothing. And perish shall all mortals who contend with you. ¹² You shall seek them, yet shall not find them. And the mortals with whom you strive shall come to be as nothing, and a limit is reached by the mortals who war with you." ¹³ For I, Yahweh, your Elohim, am holding fast your right hand, saying to you, `You must not fear; I, I help you." ¹⁴ You must not fear, worm Jacob, and death-doomed of Israel, I, I help you,'averring is Yahweh, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel." ¹⁵ Behold! I constitute you a new spiked threshing sledge possessing serrated edges. You shall thresh the mountains and pulverize them, and the hills you shall make as trash." ¹⁶ You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away. And the tempest will scatter them. And you shall exult in Yahweh. And in the Holy One of Israel shall you boast."

³¹ What then, shall we declare to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

³⁷ Nay! in all these we are more than conquering through Him Who loves us.

¹³ For all am I strong in Him Who is invigorating me - Christ!

³³ who, through faith, subdue kingdoms, work righteousness, happened on promises, bar the mouths of lions,

¹ Hear, Israel! Today you are ready to cross over the Jordan, to enter to tenant in the place of nations greater and more substantial than you, cities great and defended to the heavens,

⁸ and my brethren who have gone up with me have caused the heart of the people to melt, and I have been fully after Yahweh my Elohim;"

¹⁹ And we are observing that they could not enter because of unbelief.

²⁸ Only that the people dwelling in the land are strong and the cities are defended and exceedingly great. Moreover, the children of Anak we saw there.

⁹ Yet I exterminated the Amorite from your faces, whose loftiness was as the loftiness of cedars, and safeguarded was he as the oaks. I am exterminating his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath."

¹³ Now woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are locking the kingdom of the heavens in front of men. For you are not entering, neither are you letting those entering to enter."

⁴ Now the distinguished come to be in the earth in those days, and, moreover, afterward, coming are those who are sons of the elohim to the daughters of the human, and they bear for them. They are the masters, who are from the eon, mortals with the name.
