¹⁹ It is better to be lowly of spirit with the humble Than to apportion loot with the proud.

⁹ The enemy said: I shall pursue! I shall overtake! I shall apportion the loot! My soul's desire shall be fulfilled on them! I shall unsheathe my sword! My hand shall evict them!

¹⁸ Yahweh is near to the broken of heart, And He shall save those crushed of spirit."

⁶ Though Yahweh is exalted, yet He discerns the lowly, And He knows the haughty one from afar."

²³ A man's pride abases him, Yet he who is lowly of spirit shall take firm hold of glory."

³ Increase do You the exultation; magnify wilt You the rejoicing. They will rejoice before You as the rejoicing in the harvest, as they are exulting in their apportioning the loot."

⁶ Among a nation polluted will I send him. And against a people, object of My rage, will I instruct him. To loot loot and to plunder plunder, and to place them for tramping, as the clay of the streets."

¹³ For, says he, "By the vigor of my hand I did it, and by my wisdom, for understanding have I. And I am taking away the boundaries of the peoples, and their equipment I rob. And I am bringing down, as a sturdy one, their dwellers, ¹⁴ and my hand is finding, as a nest, the estate of the peoples, and, as one gathers forsaken eggs, the entire earth do I gather. And no one comes to be ruffling a wing, or opening wide the mouth and chirping." ¹⁵ Will the axe beautify itself over the one hewing with it? Should the chief's mace magnify itself over the one waving it? As if a club is also waving the one raising it! As if a rod is raising one who is not wood!

¹² Therefore I will apportion to Him among many, and to the staunch will He apportion the loot, insomuch that He gives up His soul unto death, and with transgressors was counted; and He bore the sin of many, and for transgressors is making intercession."

¹⁵ For thus says Yahweh, high and lifted up, who tabernacles the future, and holy is His name:"In the high and holy place am I tabernacling, and with the crushed and lowly spirit, to preserve alive the spirit of the lowly, and to preserve alive the heart of the crushed."

³ "Happy, in spirit, are the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens.

⁵¹ He does mightily with His arm, He scatters the proud in the comprehension of their hearts, ⁵² He pulls down potentates from thrones, And exalts the humble." ⁵³ The hungry He fills with good things, And the rich He sends away empty."

¹³ Now the tribute collector, standing afar off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, 'God, make a propitiatory shelter for me, the sinner!' " ¹⁴ I am saying to you, this man descended to his home justified, rather than that one, for everyone who is exalting himself shall be humbled, yet he who is humbling himself shall be exalted."
