¹ See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God! And so we are! The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. ² Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. ³ And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. ⁴ Everyone who commits sin also commits lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. ⁵ And you know that he appeared to take away our sins, and in him there is no sin. ⁶ No one who abides in him sins. No one who sins has either seen him or known him. ⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you. He who does right is righteous, just as he is righteous. ⁸ He who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ No one who is of God practices sin, for God's seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. ¹⁰ By this it may be seen who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not do right is not of God, nor he who does not love his brother. ¹¹ For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, ¹² and not be like Cain who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. ¹³ Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death. ¹⁵ Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. ¹⁶ By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? ¹⁸ Little children, let us not love in word or tongue but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ By this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him ²⁰ whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. ²¹ Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God; ²² and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. ²³ And this is his commandment: that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he has commanded us. ²⁴ Now those who keep his commandments abide in him, and he in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

²¹ And she will give birth to a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins."

⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

²⁰ For I tell you, that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. ²¹ "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.' ²² But I say to you that anyone who is angry with his brother shall be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca,' shall be answerable to the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of hell.

²⁸ But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

⁴⁸ You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

⁷ "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ⁸ For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

¹⁸ A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

²⁴ "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. ²⁵ And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

²² And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

¹⁹ when anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.

³⁸ the field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

²⁸ just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

²² And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith."

³⁹ And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'

³⁵ that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

⁹ Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.

⁴⁰ And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' ⁴¹ "Then he will say to those on his left hand, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels: ⁴² for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, ⁴³ I was a stranger and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' ⁴⁴ Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' ⁴⁵ Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'

²³ And he said, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the more, "Let him be crucified!"

²⁴ saying, "Let us alone! What have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Did you come to destroy us? I know who you arethe Holy One of God!"

¹⁹ And Herodias had a grudge against him, and wanted to kill him. But she could not,

⁷ And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!"

²⁴ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

¹³ And you will be hated by all men for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.

¹¹ And he answered them, "He who has two tunics, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise."

²² Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

³⁵ But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For he is kind to the ungrateful and evil. ³⁶ Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

¹⁸ And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

⁹ So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ¹⁰ For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. ¹¹ What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent? ¹² Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? ¹³ If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation.

²⁴ for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.

³² It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.'"

¹⁷ You will be hated by all for my name's sake.

⁴¹ Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

⁴⁷ When all the multitudes who had gathered to witness this sight saw what had taken place, they beat their breasts, and returned home.

¹² But to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God ¹³ who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

³¹ I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel."

²⁴ But Jesus did not trust himself to them, because he knew all men, ²⁵ and he had no need for anyone to bear witness of man, for he knew what was in man.

³ Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

⁷ Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. The water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

²⁴ Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

²⁹ Jesus answered them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent."

⁵⁴ Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify of it that its works are evil.

⁹ Then those who heard it went away one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last, and Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing before him.

²⁹ And he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him."

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? ⁴⁷ He who is of God hears the words of God; the reason you do not hear them is that you are not of God."

³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if any one is a worshiper of God and does his will, he listens to him.

¹² And when Peter saw this he addressed the people, "Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk?

²⁰ for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard."

³³ When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to kill them.

⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,

³⁵ but in every nation the man who fears him and does what is right is welcome to him.

¹⁰ and said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop making crooked the straight ways of the Lord?

⁹ and he made no distinction between us and them, but cleansed their hearts by faith.

³¹ They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

³⁰ The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,

²¹ testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he purchased with the blood of his Own.

¹² When it was day, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

¹⁴ They went to the chief priests and the elders and said, "We have bound ourselves under a solemn oath to taste nothing until we have killed Paul.

⁶ For he "will render to each one according to his works": ⁷ to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life; ⁸ but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness, there will be wrath and fury.

¹³ For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in the sight of God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. ¹⁴ When Gentiles, who have not the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. ¹⁵ They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts accusing or else excusing them

²⁰ Therefore no flesh will be justified in his sight by works of the law, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

²⁴ and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵ whom God put forward as an atoning sacrifice by his blood, to be received through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over sins committed beforehand; ²⁶ and it was to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

¹⁵ because the law brings wrath, for where there is no law there is no transgression.

²¹ being fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.

⁴ and perseverance, character; and character, hope. ⁵ And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

⁸ But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

² Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live any longer in it?

¹⁶ Do you not know that if you yield yourselves to any one to obey as slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, whether of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, ¹⁸ and, having been set free from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.

⁷ What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "You shall not covet." ⁸ But sin, finding opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetous desire. For apart from the law sin lies dead. ⁹ I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. ¹⁰ The very commandment which was to bring life I found to be death to me. ¹¹ For sin, finding opportunity in the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. ¹² So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good. ¹³ Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But it was sin, working death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, so that through the commandment sin might become sinful beyond measure.

⁷ For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so;

⁹ But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he does not belong to him. ¹⁰ But if Christ is in you, although your body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness. ¹¹ If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit who dwells in you. ¹² Therefore, brethren, we are debtorsnot to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. ¹³ For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. ¹⁴ For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

²⁵ As indeed he says in Hosea: "I will call them who were not my people 'my people,' and her who was not beloved I will call 'my beloved.'" ²⁶ "And it will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' they will be called 'sons of the living God.'"

⁹ Let love be genuine. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

¹² And again, Isaiah says: "There shall be a root of Jesse; and he who shall rise to rule over the Gentiles, in him the Gentiles shall hope."

⁴ who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I but also all the churches of the Gentiles give thanks;

²⁰ And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

⁹ But, as it is written, "No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived what God has prepared for those who love him,"

¹⁶ Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

⁴ I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not acquitted by this. It is the Lord who judges me.

⁹ Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts,

¹⁹ Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

⁴ Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous or boastful, it is not arrogant ⁵ or rude, it does not seek its own, it is not provoked, it keeps no record of wrongs, ⁶ it does not rejoice in evil, but rejoices with the truth. ⁷ Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

¹² For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know fullyeven as I have been fully known.

²⁴ But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all; ²⁵ the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so, he will fall on his face, and worship God, declaring that God is really among you.

⁴⁹ Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.

¹² For our boast is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with holiness and godly sincerity, not in worldly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and still more toward you.

¹⁸ And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another, for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

⁶ For it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

¹⁷ For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,

¹ For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

⁶ Therefore we are always of good courage; and we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, ⁷ for we walk by faith, not by sight. ⁸ We are confident, I say, and would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

²¹ For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

¹⁶ What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

¹⁸ And I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

¹ Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that through his poverty you might become rich.

¹⁴ but at the present time your abundance should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be equality. ¹⁵ As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack."

² And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, ³ and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any more, until the thousand years were ended. After these things he must be released for a short time.

¹⁰ And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

¹⁵ And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

⁷ He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. ⁸ But as for the cowardly, the unbelieving, the immoral, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

⁴ They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
