1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God! And so we are! The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
3 And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
4 Everyone who commits sin also commits lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.
5 And you know that he appeared to take away our sins, and in him there is no sin.
6 No one who abides in him sins. No one who sins has either seen him or known him.
7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who does right is righteous, just as he is righteous.
8 He who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
9 No one who is of God practices sin, for God's seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
10 By this it may be seen who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not do right is not of God, nor he who does not love his brother.
11 For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,
12 and not be like Cain who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous.
13 Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.
14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.
15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?
18 Little children, let us not love in word or tongue but in deed and in truth.
19 By this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him
20 whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.
21 Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God;
22 and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
23 And this is his commandment: that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he has commanded us.
24 Now those who keep his commandments abide in him, and he in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us.

Romans 2:6-8
Romans 2:13
13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous in the sight of God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.
14 When Gentiles, who have not the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law.
15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts accusing or else excusing them

24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
25 whom God put forward as an atoning sacrifice by his blood, to be received through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over sins committed beforehand;

Romans 6:16-18
16 Do you not know that if you yield yourselves to any one to obey as slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, whether of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

18 and, having been set free from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.
Romans 7:7-13
7 What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "You shall not covet."
8 But sin, finding opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetous desire. For apart from the law sin lies dead.
9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.
10 The very commandment which was to bring life I found to be death to me.
11 For sin, finding opportunity in the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.
12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good.
13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But it was sin, working death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, so that through the commandment sin might become sinful beyond measure.
Romans 8:7
7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so;
Romans 8:9-17
9 But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he does not belong to him.
10 But if Christ is in you, although your body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit who dwells in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtorsnot to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

7 Each one must give just as he has purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, so that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may have an abundance for every good work.

1 The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth,
2 because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever:
3 grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love.
4 I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father.

9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting;
11 for he who greets him shares in his wicked work.
12 Though I have much to write to you, I do not want to use paper and ink, but I hope to come to see you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.
13 The children of your chosen sister greet you.
3 John 1:1-15
1 The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Beloved, I pray that you may be in good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
3 For I greatly rejoiced when some of the brethren arrived and testified to the truth of your life, and how you are walking in truth.
4 I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
5 Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers;
6 and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.
7 For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles.
8 Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers in the truth.
9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say.
10 So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping against us with evil words. And not satisfied with that, he refuses himself to welcome the brethren, and also stops those who want to welcome them and puts them out of the church.
