¹ Therefore, put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. ² Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, ³ for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. ⁴ As you come to him, the living Stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in the sight of God ⁵ you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. ⁶ For it stands in scripture: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame." ⁷ To you therefore who believe, this is precious, but for those who do not believe, "The very stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone," ⁸ and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall;" they stumble because they disobey the wordas they were desstined to do. ⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. ¹⁰ Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. ¹¹ Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against your soul. ¹² Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. ¹³ Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the supreme authority, ¹⁴ or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. ¹⁵ For it is God's will that by doing right you should silence the ignorance of foolish men. ¹⁶ Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a covering for evil; live as servants of God. ¹⁷ Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king. ¹⁸ Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are overbearing. ¹⁹ For a man is approved if, mindful of God, he bears up under pain while suffering unjustly. ²⁰ For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you patiently endure? But if when you do right and suffer for it you patiently endure, you have favor with God. ²¹ For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. ²² "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;" ²³ when he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he uttered no threats, but he trusted himself to him who judges justly. ²⁴ He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. ²⁵ For you were straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

⁵ You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

⁷ You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, when he said:

²⁸ Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁵¹ and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

¹⁵ Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why do you put me to the test? Bring me a denarius, and let me look at it."

⁴² Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the plank from out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye.

⁴⁴ Woe to you! For you are like graves which are not seen, and men walk over them without knowing it."

¹ In the meantime, when so many thousands of the multitude had gathered together that they trampled one another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!"

²⁹ They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, depravity. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,

¹² The night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. ¹³ Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in quarreling and jealousy.

² I gave you milk, not solid food; for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, even now you are not ready, ³ for you are still carnal. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not carnal, and are you not walking like mere men?

⁸ Let us, therefore, celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

²⁰ Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; be infants in evil, but in thinking be mature.

²⁰ For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you what I wish you to be, and you may not find me what you wish me to be; I fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder.

²¹ envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. ²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. ²⁴ Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. ²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. ²⁶ Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

²² You were taught, with regard to your former manner of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful lusts; ²³ and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, ²⁴ and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. ²⁵ Therefore, laying aside falsehood, each one of you must speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.

³¹ Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

⁵ Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and greed, which is idolatry. ⁶ Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. ⁷ In these you once walked, when you lived in them. ⁸ But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth.

³ For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity, nor is it made with deceit;

¹¹ The women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.

³ The older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not to be slanderers or slaves to much wine, but they are to teach what is good,

³ For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by men and hating one another. ⁴ But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, ⁵ he saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but because of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit,

¹ Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us,

²¹ Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and rank growth of wickedness, in humility receive the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.

¹⁶ For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice. ¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or hypocrisy.

⁵ Or do you think that the Scripture says without reason: "He jealously desires the Spirit which he has made to dwell in us"?

¹¹ Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.

⁹ Do not grumble, brethren, against one another, that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.

¹⁸ You know that you were redeemed from the futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. ²⁰ He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. ²¹ Through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. ²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brethren, love one another earnestly from the heart. ²³ For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. ²⁴ For, "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, ²⁵ but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word which was preached to you.

¹⁶ Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a covering for evil; live as servants of God.

²² "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;"

¹⁰ For, "He who would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.

² so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human lusts, but for the will of God.

⁴ In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they abuse you;

⁵ And no lie was found in their mouth; they are blameless.

³ and he said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁵ Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will not enter it."

⁴ We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

¹ But I, brethren, could not address you as spiritual men, but as carnal men, as infants in Christ. ² I gave you milk, not solid food; for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, even now you are not ready,

²¹ in whom the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord;

¹⁵ But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into him, who is the head, into Christ,

³ We ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, as is fitting, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing.

¹² For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of God's word. You need milk, not solid food; ¹³ for every one who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.

²³ For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

⁵ and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, ⁶ and then have fallen away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put him to an open shame.

²⁸ Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

¹⁸ "Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased! I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.

⁴² Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?

¹⁰ Have you not read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone; ¹¹ this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?"

¹⁷ But he looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'? ¹⁸ Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."

²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself,

⁴⁰ Yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

³⁷ All that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out.

⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on me will live because of me.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live; ²⁶ and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

¹⁹ A little while longer, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.

¹¹ He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the chief cornerstone. ¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

¹⁰ For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

⁴ When Christ, who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

⁷ so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

⁷ To you therefore who believe, this is precious, but for those who do not believe, "The very stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,"

¹ Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

⁴ By these he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and become partakers of the divine nature.

²² You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. ²³ But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. ²⁴ God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

¹ I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

¹⁶ to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

⁹ For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

¹⁶ Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

¹⁹ Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

¹⁶ What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

²⁰ having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, ²¹ in whom the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord; ²² in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

¹¹ having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

¹⁷ But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.

¹⁸ I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

¹⁷ And whatever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

¹⁵ if I am delayed, you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

⁶ but Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold fast to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.

¹⁵ Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. ¹⁶ Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

¹¹ Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belongs the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

⁶ and has made us a kingdom and priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹² He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall never go out of it. And I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God. And I will write on him my new name.

¹⁰ You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth."

⁶ Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

¹⁰ Have you not read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone;

³⁵ The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him wine vinegar,

³⁸ He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."

¹⁶ "Brethren, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David, concerning Judas who was guide to those who arrested Jesus.

³² Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, ³³ as it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone that will make men stumble, and a rock that will make them fall; and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."

¹¹ The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame."

⁴ just as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before him. In love

²⁰ having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,

¹⁶ All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness;

⁴ As you come to him, the living Stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in the sight of God

²⁰ First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation,

¹⁶ He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

⁴⁴ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and then in his joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. ⁴⁵ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, ⁴⁶ who, when he had found one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

³² a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel."

¹⁷ But he looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'?

⁴² They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man is indeed the Savior of the world."

⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ And we believe, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

¹⁹ "So, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

²¹ But of Israel he says, "All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people."

³¹ that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,

¹⁶ to the one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

⁷ But whatever was gain to me, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. ⁸ More than that, I count everything to be loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christthe righteousness that comes from God and is by faith, ¹⁰ that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming like him in his death;

¹⁰ and you have been made complete in him, who is the head over all rule and authority.

³ For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by men and hating one another.

¹¹ Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience.

³¹ By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had welcomed the spies.

⁸ Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

⁸ and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall;" they stumble because they disobey the wordas they were desstined to do.

³⁴ Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that will be spoken against

²² What if God, choosing to show his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much patience the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,

²³ but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,

⁹ For God has not destined us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

³ And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from long ago their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep.

⁴ For certain persons have crept in secretly, those who were long ago marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and on those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned."

¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

⁷⁹ to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

¹⁹ And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he purchased with the blood of his Own.

¹⁸ to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

²⁸ And Agrippa said to Paul, "In a short time you think to persuade me to become a Christian!"

²⁴ even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles?

¹⁷ If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and that temple you are.

⁶ to the praise of his glorious grace, which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.

¹⁴ who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance, until the redemption of those who are God's possessionto the praise of his glory.

²¹ to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.

⁸ for once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light ⁹ (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), ¹⁰ and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. ¹¹ Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead expose them.

¹⁵ so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, ¹⁶ holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

¹⁴ I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

¹³ For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son,

⁴ But you, brethren, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. ⁵ For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. ⁶ So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be alert and sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. ⁸ But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

⁹ who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and the grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

² who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling with his blood: may grace and peace be yours in abundance.

⁵ you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

²⁵ As indeed he says in Hosea: "I will call them who were not my people 'my people,' and her who was not beloved I will call 'my beloved.'" ²⁶ "And it will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' they will be called 'sons of the living God.'"

¹⁹ Again I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, "I will make you jealous by those who are not a nation; by a foolish nation I will make you angry."

⁶ And if it is by grace, then it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise, grace would no longer be grace. ⁷ What then? Israel did not obtain what it sought. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened,

³⁰ Just as you were once disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience,

²⁵ Now concerning virgins, I have no command of the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord's mercy is trustworthy.

¹³ Even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor, I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;

¹⁶ Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

³⁴ "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly like a trap.

²⁰ but that we should write to them to abstain from the pollutions of idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood.

²⁹ that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication. If you keep yourselves free from these, you will do well. Farewell."

²³ but I see in my members another law, at war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members.

¹³ For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

¹³ Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in quarreling and jealousy. ¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

²⁰ We are therefore ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making his appeal through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

¹ Working together with him, then, we urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

¹ Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁶ But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. ¹⁷ For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you would. ¹⁸ But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. ¹⁹ Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, lewdness, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, ²¹ envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁴ Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

¹ I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called,

⁹ But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

²² Now flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

⁹ yet for love's sake I rather appeal to yousince I am such a person as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus ¹⁰ 10 I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment.

¹³ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from a distance, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.

¹ What causes quarrels and fights among you? Is it not your passions that are at war in your members?

¹ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen exiles in the Dispersion, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

¹⁷ If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one's work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your exile on earth.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the worldthe lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of lifeis not of the Father but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

¹¹ Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake.

⁸ When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!

⁶⁸ "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people,

²² Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

⁴⁴ and dash you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another in you; because you did not know the time of your visitation."

¹⁴ Simeon has related how God first showed his concern by taking from the Gentiles a people for his name.

⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. ⁶ He even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him.

¹³ Neither can they prove to you the charges they are now making against me.

⁷ And when Paul arrived, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing many serious charges against him, which they could not prove.

¹⁷ Repay no one evil for evil, but have regard for what is noble in the sight of all.

¹³ Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in quarreling and jealousy.

⁹ and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: "Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name";

²⁵ the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so, he will fall on his face, and worship God, declaring that God is really among you.

¹² For our boast is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with holiness and godly sincerity, not in worldly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and still more toward you.

²¹ for we have regard for what is honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

⁷ Now we pray to God that you may not do wrong, not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, even though we may seem to have failed.

³ Among them we all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, following the desires of flesh and mind, and so we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

²² You were taught, with regard to your former manner of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful lusts;

²⁷ Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

¹² so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anyone.

² for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.

¹² Let no one look down on your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

⁷ Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness, ⁸ and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

⁵ Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said, "I will never leave you, nor will I forsake you."

¹⁸ Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to live honorably in all things.

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good life let him show his deeds in the humility of wisdom.

¹ You wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without a word by the behavior of their wives, ² when they see your chaste and respectful behavior.

¹⁶ and keep a clear conscience, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a wrongdoer, or a troublesome meddler; ¹⁶ yet if one suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but under that name let him glorify God.

¹¹ Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy lives and godliness,

²¹ They said, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."

¹⁷ Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were amazed at him.

²⁵ He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."

¹ Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist have been instituted by God. ² Therefore he who resists the authority resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. ³ For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will have praise from him. ⁴ For he is God's servant to you for good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is God's servant, an avenger to execute wrath on the wrongdoer. ⁵ Therefore one must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for the sake of conscience. ⁶ For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God's ministers, attending to this very thing. ⁷ Pay all of them their dues: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.

²¹ Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.

¹ First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, ² for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity.

¹ Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,

¹⁰ and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desire and despise authority. Bold and willful, they are not afraid to revile the glorious ones,

⁸ Yet in the same way these men in their dreamings defile the flesh, reject authority, and revile the glorious ones. ⁹ But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a reviling judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" ¹⁰ But these men revile whatever they do not understand; and the things that they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals do, by these things they are destroyed.

³ For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will have praise from him. ⁴ For he is God's servant to you for good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is God's servant, an avenger to execute wrath on the wrongdoer.

²⁶ And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand;

² Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

²¹ for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

¹ You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?

⁶ not in the way of eye-service, as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. ⁷ Render service with good will, as to the Lord, and not to men,

³ For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that is, that you should abstain from sexual immorality;

¹⁸ give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

⁸ and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

¹² Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

¹⁷ For it is better to suffer for doing right, if that should be God's will, than for doing wrong.

¹² But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and killed, reviling in matters of which they are ignorant, will be destroyed in the same destruction with them,

¹⁰ But these men revile whatever they do not understand; and the things that they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals do, by these things they are destroyed.

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor do you allow those who would enter to go in.

³² And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." ³³ They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, 'You will be made free'?" ³⁴ Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. ³⁵ And a slave does not continue in the house forever, but a son continues forever. ³⁶ So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.

¹⁸ and, having been set free from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.

²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the return you get is holiness and its end, eternal life.

²² For he who was called in the Lord as a slave is the Lord's freedman; likewise he who was free when called is Christ's slave.

¹ It was for freedom that Christ has set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

⁶ not in the way of eye-service, as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.

²⁴ knowing that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

⁵ For, as you know, we never used flattery nor a pretext for greed God is witness

²⁵ But one who looks intently into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but a doer that acts, this man will be blessed in what he does.

¹² So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.

¹⁹ They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for whatever overcomes a man, to that he is enslaved.

³⁵ By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

¹⁰ Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; outdo one another in showing honor.

⁷ Pay all of them their dues: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.

³ Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

¹ Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be spoken against.

¹ Let brotherly love continue.

²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brethren, love one another earnestly from the heart.

⁵ Likewise you that are younger men be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

¹ I, Paul, myself urge you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold to you when I am away!

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

⁵ Slaves, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ;

²² Slaves, in everything obey those who are your masters according to the flesh, not with eye-service, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. ²³ Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, ²⁴ knowing that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. ²⁵ For he who does wrong will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.

¹ Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be spoken against. ² Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful to them because they are brethren, but they must serve them all the better, because those who benefit by their service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these duties. ³ If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness,

⁹ Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not to talk back to them, ¹⁰ and not to steal, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in everything they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

² to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable and gentle, and to show true humility toward all men.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or hypocrisy.

¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. ¹² Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³² If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.

²¹ But all this they will do to you for my name's sake, because they do not know him who sent me.

²³ When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts;

⁵ Therefore one must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for the sake of conscience.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of themyet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

¹ Now, brethren, we want you to know about the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia,

¹² For this reason I also suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.

²⁰ For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you patiently endure? But if when you do right and suffer for it you patiently endure, you have favor with God.

¹⁴ But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled, ¹⁵ but in your hearts reverence Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and respect; ¹⁶ and keep a clear conscience, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. ¹⁷ For it is better to suffer for doing right, if that should be God's will, than for doing wrong.

⁴⁷ And if you greet only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?

⁶⁷ Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists; and others slapped him,

⁶⁵ Then some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to beat him, and to say to him, "Prophesy!" And the guards received him with slaps in the face.

¹ I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. ² Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

¹¹ To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and we are poorly clothed, and roughly treated, and homeless;

¹⁰ and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

¹⁹ For a man is approved if, mindful of God, he bears up under pain while suffering unjustly.

¹⁴ But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled,

³⁸ and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

³⁴ And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. ³⁵ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.

²³ Then he said to them all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. ²⁵ For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?

²⁶ "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. ²⁷ And whoever does not bear his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

²⁶ Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter his glory?"

¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

³³ I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage! I have overcome the world."

¹⁶ for I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name."

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, "Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God."

³ explaining and proving that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ."

²⁹ For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

¹ Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

² and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

⁵ Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,

³ so that no one would be unsettled by these afflictions. You yourselves know that we have been destined for this.

² For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

¹² Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

¹⁰ For it was fitting that he, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering.

²⁰ He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

²⁴ He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

⁹ Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but give a blessing instead; for to this you were called, that you may inherit a blessing.

¹⁸ For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit;

¹ Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

⁶ he who says he abides in him ought to walk as he walked.

¹⁶ By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

¹¹ They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives even to the death.

⁴ saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!"

¹⁹ While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent word to him, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered greatly today in a dream because of him."

²³ And he said, "Why, what evil has he done?" But they shouted all the more, "Let him be crucified!" ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood. See to it yourselves."

⁴¹ Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

⁴⁷ When all the multitudes who had gathered to witness this sight saw what had taken place, they beat their breasts, and returned home.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?

²¹ For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

²⁶ For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens. ²⁷ He does not need, like those high priests, to offer up daily sacrifices, first for his own sins and then for the sins of the people, because he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

²⁸ so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for him.

¹ My little children, I write this to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

⁵ And you know that he appeared to take away our sins, and in him there is no sin.

³⁹ And those who passed by hurled insults at him, wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross." ⁴¹ So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, ⁴² "He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. ⁴³ He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" ⁴⁴ And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

⁶⁰ And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" ⁶¹ But he was silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

²⁹ And those who passed by hurled insults at him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Aha! You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, ³⁰ save yourself, and come down from the cross!" ³¹ So also the chief priests mocked him among themselves with the scribes, and said, "He saved others; he cannot save himself. ³² Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe." Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.

⁶⁴ They blindfolded him and asked him, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?" ⁶⁵ And they spoke many other things against him, blaspheming.

⁹ Then he questioned him with many words, but he gave him no answer.

³⁴ And the people stood watching; but even the rulers sneered at him, saying, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One." ³⁵ The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him wine vinegar, ³⁶ and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself." ³⁷ There was also an inscription written over him: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁸ One of the criminals who were hanged there hurled insults at him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us!" ³⁹ But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?

⁴⁶ Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he praised God, and said, "Certainly this was a righteous man!"

⁴⁸ The Jews answered him, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?" ⁴⁹ Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon; but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.

⁹ and he went again into the Praetorium and said to Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave him no answer. ¹⁰ Pilate said to him, "You will not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you, and power to crucify you?" ¹¹ Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered me to you has the greater sin."

²⁹ And now, Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness,

⁵⁹ And as they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

³² Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: "He was led as a sheep to slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth. ³³ In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken up from the earth." ³⁴ And the eunuch said to Philip, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?" ³⁵ Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this scripture he told him the good news of Jesus.

¹ Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,

³¹ because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given proof to all men by raising him from the dead."

⁵ But by your hardness and your impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

⁹ Masters, do the same to them, and give up threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.

⁵ This is evidence of God's righteous judgment, so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.

⁸ In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing.

³ Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart.

¹⁹ Therefore, let those who suffer according to God's will do right and entrust their souls to a faithful Creator.

¹¹ Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.

²⁰ For I tell you, that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁷ This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases."

²⁶ Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

¹⁵ So Pilate, wanting to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged him, to be crucified.

⁷⁴ to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life.

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

¹ So then Pilate took Jesus and scourged him.

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised Jesuswhom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.

³⁵ but in every nation the man who fears him and does what is right is welcome to him.

³⁹ We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree;

²⁹ When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

² Certainly not! How can we who died to sin live any longer in it?

⁷ For he who has died has been freed from sin.

¹¹ So you also, consider yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

¹³ Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield yourselves to God as men who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.

¹⁶ Do you not know that if you yield yourselves to any one to obey as slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, whether of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

⁶ But now, by dying to what once held us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

¹⁷ Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.

¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for usfor it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"

⁹ (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),

²⁰ If with Christ you died to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you still belonged to it, do you submit to regulations such as,

³ For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

²⁶ For it was fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, blameless, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

¹³ and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.

¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

¹ Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, ² so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human lusts, but for the will of God.

²⁹ If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does right is born of him.

⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you. He who does right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

² through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

³⁶ When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

¹² What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains in search of the one that went astray?

⁴ "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? ⁵ And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. ⁶ And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.'

¹¹ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. ¹² But he who is a hireling and not the shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them. ¹³ He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep. ¹⁴ I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep, and my sheep know me ¹⁵ just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. ¹⁶ And I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

¹ Therefore, holy brethren, who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.

²⁰ Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant,

⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
