¹ So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ and a partaker in the glory that is to be revealed, ² shepherd the flock of God that is under your care, serving as overseersnot under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; ³ not as lording it over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. ⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. ⁵ Likewise you that are younger men be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." ⁶ Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. ⁷ Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. ⁸ Be sober, be alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. ⁹ But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren throughout the world. ¹⁰ And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, establish, and strengthen you. ¹¹ To him be the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. ¹² With the help of Silvanus, a faithful brother as I regard him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. ¹³ She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark. ¹⁴ Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.

⁴⁸ You are witnesses of these things.

²⁶ "But when the Counselor comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, he will testify of me. ²⁷ And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.

⁸ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth."

²² beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from usone of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection."

³² This Jesus God raised up again, and of that we are all witnesses.

¹⁵ but killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised Jesuswhom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior, to give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. ³² We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him."

³⁹ We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; ⁴⁰ but God raised him up on the third day and caused him to be seen, ⁴¹ not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

³⁰ And this they did, sending it to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

²³ And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they believed.

⁴ When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported all that God had done with them.

⁶ The apostles and the elders came together to consider this matter.

²² Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren, ²³ and they sent the following letter with them: "The apostles and the brethren who are elders, to the brethren in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia who are from the Gentiles, greetings.

¹⁷ From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called to him the elders of the church.

²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he purchased with the blood of his Own.

¹⁸ And the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present.

¹⁷ and if children, then heirsheirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, in order that we may also be glorified with him. ¹⁸ I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed in us.

¹ For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

⁸ We are confident, I say, and would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

¹⁹ for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance,

²¹ For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. ²² But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I do not know. ²³ I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better;

³ For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

¹ Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers,

¹⁹ Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses.

⁸ In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing.

⁵ For this reason I left you in Crete, that you might straighten out what was left unfinished, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you,

⁹ yet for love's sake I rather appeal to yousince I am such a person as Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus

³ Blessed be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has caused us to be born again into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, kept in heaven for you, ⁵ who are protected by God's power through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

⁷ so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

¹² It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaventhings into which angels long to look.

⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.

² Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

¹ The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth, ² because of the truth which abides in us and will be with us forever: ³ grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love. ⁴ I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father. ⁵ And now I ask you, lady, not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning, that we love one another. ⁶ And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in love. ⁷ For many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. ⁸ Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward. ⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting; ¹¹ for he who greets him shares in his wicked work. ¹² Though I have much to write to you, I do not want to use paper and ink, but I hope to come to see you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete. ¹³ The children of your chosen sister greet you.

¹ The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. ² Beloved, I pray that you may be in good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. ³ For I greatly rejoiced when some of the brethren arrived and testified to the truth of your life, and how you are walking in truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my children are walking in the truth. ⁵ Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers; ⁶ and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. ⁷ For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. ⁸ Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers in the truth. ⁹ I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say. ¹⁰ So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping against us with evil words. And not satisfied with that, he refuses himself to welcome the brethren, and also stops those who want to welcome them and puts them out of the church. ¹¹ Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The one who does good is of God; the one who does evil has not seen God. ¹² Demetrius has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself; and we add our testimony, and you know that our testimony is true. ¹³ I had much to write you, but I do not want to do so with pen and ink; ¹⁴ I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. ⁹ I, John, your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

³² Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

¹⁵ When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." ¹⁶ He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." ¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.

²⁶ Therefore, I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. ²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he purchased with the blood of his Own.

³³ I have coveted no one's silver or gold or clothes. ³⁴ You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my own needs and to the men who were with me.

¹³ Then Paul answered, "What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound but even to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."

¹⁵ so I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

⁷ Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk?

¹⁶ For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion. For woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! ¹⁷ For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if it is not of my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.

¹⁴ Here for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be a burden to you, for I seek not what is yours but you; for children ought not to lay up for their parents, but parents for their children. ¹⁵ I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you the more, am I to be loved the less?

³ not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

⁸ Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, and not fond of sordid gain;

⁷ For the overseer must be blameless as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not violent, not fond of sordid gain,

¹¹ They must be silenced, because they are upsetting whole families by teaching things they ought not to teach for the sake of sordid gain.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

¹ Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,

¹⁴ but without your consent I did not want to do anything, so that your goodness would not be, in effect, by compulsion but of your own free will.

¹⁵ See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness spring up and cause trouble, and by it many become defiled;

³ And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from long ago their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep.

¹² cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble; ¹³ cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and chariots; and slaves and human souls.

²⁵ But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. ²⁶ Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you must be your servant.

⁸ But you are not to be called 'Rabbi,' for you have only one Master, and you are all brethren. ⁹ And do not call anyone on earth your 'Father,' for you have one Father, he who is in heaven. ¹⁰ Nor are you to be called 'Teacher,' for you have one Teacher, the Christ.

⁴² But Jesus called them to himself and said to them, "You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ⁴³ But it shall not be so among you. But whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, ⁴⁴ and whoever wants to be first among you must be slave of all. ⁴⁵ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

²⁴ A dispute also arose among them, which of them was to be considered the greatest. ²⁵ And he said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those who exercise authority over them are called benefactors. ²⁶ But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the youngest, and he who leads as one who serves. ²⁷ For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at the table? But I am among you as One who serves.

⁵ What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord assigned to each one.

⁹ For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

¹¹ In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.

²⁴ Not that we lord it over your faith; but we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith.

⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.

¹⁷ Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who live according to the pattern you have in us.

⁹ Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

⁵ for our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. ⁶ You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit;

⁹ We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves an example for you to follow.

¹² Let no one look down on your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

⁷ Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness,

⁹ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

⁹ I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say. ¹⁰ So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping against us with evil words. And not satisfied with that, he refuses himself to welcome the brethren, and also stops those who want to welcome them and puts them out of the church.

³¹ "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. ³² All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. ³³ And he will put the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then the King will say to those on his right hand, 'Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, ³⁶ I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' ⁴⁰ And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' ⁴¹ "Then he will say to those on his left hand, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels: ⁴² for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, ⁴³ I was a stranger and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' ⁴⁴ Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' ⁴⁵ Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' ⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

¹¹ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

²⁵ Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.

⁷ and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, ⁸ inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power, ¹⁰ when he comes to be glorified in his saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believedbecause our testimony to you was believed.

²⁰ Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant,

¹² Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

⁴ to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, kept in heaven for you,

²⁵ For you were straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

² shepherd the flock of God that is under your care, serving as overseersnot under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;

⁷ Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all tribes of the earth will mourn because of him. Even so. Amen.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful even until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

¹¹ I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may take your crown.

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat upon it; from his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.

¹⁰ Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; outdo one another in showing honor.

¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

²¹ Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.

³ Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

¹² So, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;

¹⁷ Obey your leaders and submit to them; for they are keeping watch over your souls, as men who will have to give account. Let them do this with joy, and not with grief, for that would be of no advantage to you.

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

³ Your adornment must not be merely outwardbraiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on fine clothing; ⁴ but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God's sight.

¹ Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

⁵ but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

¹² For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

⁵² He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted the lowly.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

⁶ When we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

²² Are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?

⁶ who gave himself as a ransom for allthe testimony given at the proper time.

³ and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior,

⁹ But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; ¹⁰ and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like the flower of the grass he will pass away.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

¹⁰ As an example, brethren, of suffering and patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

²⁵ "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? ²⁶ Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well. ³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

³⁸ But he was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. And they woke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care if we perish?"

¹¹ Now when they bring you before the synagogues and rulers and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you are to say; ¹² for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."

²² Then he said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about your body, what you will put on.

³⁰ For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. ³¹ But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. ³² Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

¹³ He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep.

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

⁵ Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, for God has said, "I will never leave you, nor will I forsake you." ⁶ So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"

¹ Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

¹¹ Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and ministered to him.

³⁹ and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.

⁴² Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.

⁴⁸ But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' ⁴⁹ and he then begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, ⁵⁰ the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of,

⁴¹ "Then he will say to those on his left hand, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

⁴⁵ But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, ⁴⁶ the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour he is not aware of, and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

³⁴ "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly like a trap.

³⁶ Watch at all times, and pray always that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."

³¹ "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

¹¹ And do this, knowing the hour, that now it is full time for you to wake from sleep. For now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. ¹² The night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. ¹³ Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in quarreling and jealousy.

²⁷ and do not give the devil an opportunity.

¹¹ Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

⁶ So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be alert and sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. ⁸ But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

⁹ I also want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and sensibly, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly garments,

¹⁵ But women will be saved through the bearing of children, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self-restraint.

² Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

¹¹ The women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth.

⁸ but hospitable, a lover of what is good, master of himself, upright, holy, and self-controlled;

² The older men are to be temperate, serious, sensible, sound in faith, in love, and in endurance.

⁴ so they can train the young women to love their husbands and children,

⁶ Likewise urge the young men to be sensible.

¹² training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this present age,

⁷ Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

¹³ Therefore, prepare your minds for action, be sober in spirit, set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

⁷ The end of all things is near; therefore be clear minded and sober for your prayers.

⁸ He who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ No one who is of God practices sin, for God's seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God. ¹⁰ By this it may be seen who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not do right is not of God, nor he who does not love his brother.

⁹ And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole worldhe was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

¹² Rejoice then, O heavens and you that dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!"

² And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,

¹⁰ And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

³ And the devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread." ⁴ But Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone.'" ⁵ Then the devil took him up to a high place, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. ⁶ And he said to him, "To you I will give all this authority and their glory; for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. ⁷ If you, then, will worship me, it shall all be yours." ⁸ And Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" ⁹ He took him to Jerusalem, set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here; ¹⁰ for it is written: 'He will give his angels charge of you, to guard you,' ¹¹ and, 'In their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" ¹² And Jesus answered him, "It is said, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.'"

³² But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren."

³³ I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage! I have overcome the world."

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, "Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God."

¹³ No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man. And God is faithful, who will not let you be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

¹¹ Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. ¹² For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. ¹³ Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

¹⁶ in addition to all this, taking up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

⁵ For even though I am absent in flesh, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

They displease God and are hostile to all men, ¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last.

³ so that no one would be unsettled by these afflictions. You yourselves know that we have been destined for this.

¹² Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

¹¹ though the twins were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad, in order that God's purpose of election might stand, not because of works but because of his call,

²⁴ even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles?

⁵ May the God of patience and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, according to Christ Jesus,

¹³ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

²⁵ Now to him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret for long ages

⁹ God is faithful, by whom you were called into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹⁷ For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,

¹¹ Finally, brethren, farewell. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

⁹ who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and the grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

¹⁰ Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

¹⁵ For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

²⁰ Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant, ²¹ equip you with every good thing to do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. ⁶ In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials, ⁷ so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

¹¹ Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belongs the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
