¹ Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, ² through the pretensions of liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron, ³ who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. ⁴ For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving; ⁵ for it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. ⁶ If you point out these things to the brethren, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed. ⁷ Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself in godliness. ⁸ For bodily training is of some value, but godliness is of value in all things, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. ⁹ It is a trustworthy saying worthy of full acceptance. ¹⁰ For to this end we labor and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe. ¹¹ Command and teach these things. ¹² Let no one look down on your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. ¹³ Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. ¹⁴ Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you through prophetic utterance when the council of elders laid their hands on you. ¹⁵ Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that all may see your progress. ¹⁶ Take heed to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in them, for if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. ⁶ And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. ⁷ For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. ⁸ All these are the beginning of birth pains. ⁹ Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. ¹⁰ And then many will fall away, and will betray one another, and hate one another. ¹¹ And many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. ¹² And because wickedness will increase, the love of most will grow cold.

¹³ But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak; and he will tell you things to come.

² While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

¹⁸ And also some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers were conversing with him. Some said, "What would this idle babbler wish to say?" Others, "He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign deities,"because he was preaching Jesus and the resurrection.

²⁵ When they disagreed among themselves, they began to leave, after Paul had made one final statement: "The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:

⁵ For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), ⁶ yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we exist.

²⁰ No, but I say that the things pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be partners with demons.

¹¹ But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as he wills.

³ But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their deeds.

¹⁸ Let no one disqualify you for the prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, puffed up without cause by his fleshly mind,

³ Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, ⁴ who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. ⁵ Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? ⁶ And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he may be revealed. ⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way. ⁸ And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. ⁹ The coming of the lawless one by the activity of Satan will be with all power and with pretended signs and wonders, ¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ For this reason God sends upon them a strong delusion so that they will believe what is false, ¹² so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in wickedness.

¹ But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of stress. ² For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, ³ unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, ⁴ treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, ⁵ holding a form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid such people. ⁶ For among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, weighed down with sins and swayed by various impulses, ⁷ always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ⁸ Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith. ⁹ But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.

¹³ while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

⁴ and will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

²⁰ He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

¹ But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

³ First of all you must understand this, that scoffers will come in the last days, with scoffing, following their own lusts

¹⁸ Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come; by this we know that it is the last hour.

⁶ We are of God. Whoever knows God listens to us; he who is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

⁴ For certain persons have crept in secretly, those who were long ago marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ they said to you, "In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly lusts."

⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.'

¹¹ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.'

² He opened the bottomless pit, and smoke went up from the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the pit. ³ Then out of the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth. ⁴ They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any green growth or any tree, but only those of mankind who have not the seal of God on their foreheads. ⁵ They were allowed to torture them for five months, but not to kill them, and their torture was like the torture of a scorpion, when it stings a man. ⁶ And in those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death will fly from them. ⁷ In appearance the locusts were like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; and their faces were like human faces, ⁸ their hair was like women's hair, and their teeth were like lions' teeth. ⁹ They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. ¹⁰ They have tails like scorpions, and stings, and their power to hurt men for five months lies in their tails. ¹¹ They have as king over them the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

²⁰ The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshipping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk;

¹⁴ And he deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs which he was given power to do in the presence of the beast. He ordered them to make an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

¹⁴ for they are spirits of demons, performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.

² And he called out with a mighty voice, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons, a haunt of every unclean spirit, a haunt of every unclean and hateful bird.

²³ and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your merchants were the great men of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery.

²⁰ And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshipped his image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with sulfur.

² And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, ³ and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any more, until the thousand years were ended. After these things he must be released for a short time.

⁸ and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, that is, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the seashore.

¹⁰ And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

¹⁵ "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

²⁴ For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

³⁰ and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

²⁸ And since they did not see fit to retain the knowledge of God, God gave them over to a base mind, to do what ought not to be done.

¹⁸ For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple.

¹⁴ As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming.

¹⁹ and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, greedy for the practice of every kind of impurity.

⁵ holding a form of godliness but denying its power. Avoid such people.

¹ But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. ² And many will follow their licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled. ³ And in their greed they will exploit you with false words; from long ago their condemnation has not been idle, and their destruction has not been asleep.

¹⁹ Then he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave them to the multitudes.

³⁶ Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.

³⁰ When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.

²³ However, boats from Tiberias came near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

³¹ Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples. ³² And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

¹³ A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat!" ¹⁴ But Peter said, "No, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean." ¹⁵ And the voice came to him again a second time, "What God has cleansed, you must not call common."

³⁵ Having said this, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of all, and he broke it and began to eat.

³ Let not him who eats despise him who does not, and let not him who does not eat pass judgment on him who eats; for God has accepted him.

⁶ He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit;

¹³ "Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food"but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

²⁸ But if you marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have troubles in this flesh, and I am trying to spare you.

³⁶ But if any man thinks that he is not acting properly toward his betrothed, if she is past her youth, and if it must be so, let him do what he wishes, he does not sin; let them marry. ³⁷ But he who stands firm in his heart, being under no constraint, but has control over his own will, and has decided this in his own heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well. ³⁸ So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who does not marry her will do better. ³⁹ A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.

⁸ But food will not commend us to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

³⁰ If I partake with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of that for which I give thanks? ³¹ So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

¹⁶ Therefore let no one judge you in questions of food or drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day.

²⁰ If with Christ you died to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you still belonged to it, do you submit to regulations such as, ²¹ "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" ²² (referring to things which are all destined perish with use), according to human commandments and teachings? ²³ These indeed have an appearance of wisdom in promoting self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but they are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

¹⁷ And whatever you do, in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. ¹⁴ He called you to this through our gospel, that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴ who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

⁴ For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving;

⁴ Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for God will judge the immoral and adulterous.

⁹ Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.

⁷ Then I heard a voice saying to me, 'Get up, Peter. Kill and eat!' ⁸ But I said, 'No, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth.' ⁹ But the voice answered a second time from heaven, 'What God has cleansed you must not call common.'

²⁰ but that we should write to them to abstain from the pollutions of idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. ²¹ For Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath."

²⁹ that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication. If you keep yourselves free from these, you will do well. Farewell."

²⁵ But as for the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote to them our decision that they should abstain from meat sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication."

¹⁴ I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean.

²⁰ Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.

²³ "All things are lawful," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful," but not all things build up.

²⁵ Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience;

³ who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. ⁴ But Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone.'"

⁴¹ But give for alms those things which are within; and behold, everything is clean for you.

¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy.

¹⁵ To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are corrupted and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

⁵² And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been instructed for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old."

¹⁶ Jesus answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. ¹⁷ If anyone is willing to do his will, he shall know whether the teaching is from God or whether I speak on my own authority.

³¹ Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night and day to admonish each one with tears.

³⁵ In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

¹⁵ But I have written very boldly to you on some points, so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God,

¹ This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Moreover it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.

¹⁷ For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.

⁶ who has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

⁴ But as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, distresses,

¹⁵ But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into him, who is the head, into Christ, ¹⁶ from whom the whole body, being joined and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each part, causes the growth of the body and builds itself up in love.

²¹ Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing.

¹⁶ Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

¹⁹ and not holding fast to the head, from whom the whole body, nourished and held together by its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

⁷ Tychicus will tell you all about my affairs. He is a beloved brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord.

² and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you in your faith,

¹⁰ and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,

¹⁶ Take heed to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in them, for if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

³ If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness,

⁶ For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

¹⁴ Remind them of these things, and charge them in the presence of God to avoid disputing about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. ¹⁵ Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

¹⁰ You, however, know all about my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance,

¹⁴ But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, knowing from whom you learned it, ¹⁵ and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness; ¹⁷ so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires,

¹ But as for you, teach what befits sound doctrine.

⁷ Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness, ⁸ and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. ⁹ Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not to talk back to them, ¹⁰ and not to steal, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in everything they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

² Like newborn babes, long for the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

¹² Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. ¹³ I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, ¹⁴ since I know that the putting aside of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. ¹⁵ And I will see to it that after my departure you will be able at any time to call these things to mind.

¹ This is now the second letter that I have written to you, beloved, and in both of them I have aroused your sincere mind by way of reminder; ² that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

⁵ Now I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully informed, that the Lord who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

¹⁶ And so I do my best always to have a clear conscience before God and men.

⁴ nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than the divine trainingwhich is by faith.

¹⁰ but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess godliness.

¹⁶ By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: he was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

¹¹ But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

²⁰ O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge,

¹⁶ Avoid godless chatter, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness,

²³ Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know that they produce quarrels.

¹² Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

¹⁴ and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of men who reject the truth.

¹² training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this present age,

⁹ But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and quarrels about the Law, for they are unprofitable and useless.

¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their sense trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.

⁵ For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge, ⁶ and to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance, and to perseverance, godliness, ⁷ and to godliness, brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness, love. ⁸ For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake. ¹² Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well.

²⁹ And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

¹⁹ You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.'" ²⁰ And he said to him, "Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth."

³⁰ who will not receive a hundredfold now in this timehouse and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come, eternal life.

³¹ But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. ³² Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

²⁸ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

²² whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future; all belong to you,

⁶ But godliness with contentment is itself great gain.

⁸ This is a trustworthy saying; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God may be careful to devote themselves to good deeds. These things are excellent and profitable for men.

⁹ This is symbolic for the present time. According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, ¹⁰ since they relate only to food and drink and various washings regulations for the flesh imposed until the time of reformation.

³ His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and excellence. ⁴ By these he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and become partakers of the divine nature.

²⁵ And this is what he has promised useternal life.

¹² He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall never go out of it. And I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God. And I will write on him my new name.

²¹ To him who overcomes, I will grant to sit with me on my throne, as I also overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.

¹⁵ It is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinnersof whom I am the foremost.

⁴³ He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'"

²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

¹⁵ that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

⁴² They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man is indeed the Savior of the world."

²⁴ Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

¹² And again, Isaiah says: "There shall be a root of Jesse; and he who shall rise to rule over the Gentiles, in him the Gentiles shall hope." ¹³ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

⁹ For, I think that God has exhibited us apostles last of all, like men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honor. ¹¹ To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and we are poorly clothed, and roughly treated, and homeless; ¹² and we toil, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure; ¹³ when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.

⁸ We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; ¹⁰ always carrying about in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.

³ We put no stumbling block in anyone's path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. ⁴ But as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, distresses, ⁵ in beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, sleeplessness, hunger, ⁶ in purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love, ⁷ in truthful speech, and in the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; ⁸ through glory and dishonor, evil report and good report; true, yet regarded as impostors; ⁹ as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; ¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

²³ Are they servants of Christ? I am a better oneI am talking like a madmanin far more labors, in far more imprisonments, with more beatings, and often in danger of death. ²⁴ Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the open sea. ²⁶ I have been on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, in danger from robbers, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles, in danger in the city, in danger in the wilderness, in danger at sea, and in danger from false brethren; ²⁷ I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.

⁶ who gave himself as a ransom for allthe testimony given at the proper time.

¹⁵ if I am delayed, you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

¹⁷ Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with everything to enjoy.

⁹ for which I am suffering even to the point of wearing chains like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. ¹⁰ Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

¹⁰ You, however, know all about my teaching, my conduct, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, ¹¹ persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, yet the Lord rescued me from them all. ¹² Indeed all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

²⁶ He considered abuse suffered for the Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his reward.

¹³ Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.

²¹ Through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a wrongdoer, or a troublesome meddler;

² And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹⁴ And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world.

¹⁰ He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given of his Son. ¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. ¹³ I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

⁷ Command these things as well, so that they may be above reproach.

² Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful to them because they are brethren, but they must serve them all the better, because those who benefit by their service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these duties.

² preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and exhort, with great patience and instruction.

¹⁵ Speak these things; exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.

¹⁰ "See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

¹ Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

¹⁰ Now if Timothy comes, see that he is with you with nothing to fear, for he is doing the work of the Lord, just as I am. ¹¹ So let no one despise him. Send him on his way in peace, that he may return to me; for I am expecting him with the brethren.

Our heart is opened wide. ¹² You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. ¹³ Now in a fair exchangeI speak as to my childrenopen wide your hearts also. ¹⁴ Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? ¹⁵ What harmony has Christ with Belial? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

⁶ You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit;

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless we behaved toward you believers;

⁷ For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, ⁸ nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you. ⁹ We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves an example for you to follow.

¹⁴ and the grace of our Lord was overflowing for me, with the faith and love that are found in Christ Jesus.

⁷ Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

¹⁵ Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

²² Now flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

⁷ Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness,

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good life let him show his deeds in the humility of wisdom.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or hypocrisy.

³ not as lording it over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.

⁵¹ Jesus asked, "Have you understood all these things?" "Yes," they said to him. ⁵² And he said to them, "Therefore every scribe who has been instructed for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old."

³⁹ You search the Scriptures, because in them you think that you have eternal life; and these are they that testify of me.

⁴ But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word."

¹¹ Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

⁸ he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

³ But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their edification and encouragement and comfort.

⁶ But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching?

²⁶ What is the outcome then, brethren? When you come together, each one has a hymn, or a teaching, or a revelation, or a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

¹⁴ Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, ¹⁵ if I am delayed, you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.

⁶ If you point out these things to the brethren, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

¹⁵ Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. ¹⁶ Avoid godless chatter, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, ¹⁷ and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,

¹⁴ "For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. ¹⁵ To one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. ¹⁶ He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them; and he made five talents more. ¹⁷ So also, he who had the two talents gained two more. ¹⁸ But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground, and hid his master's money. ¹⁹ Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. ²⁰ So he who had received the five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, 'Master, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents.' ²¹ His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.' ²² He also who had received the two talents came and said, 'Master, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents.' ²³ His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.' ²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. ²⁵ So I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.' ²⁶ But his master answered him, 'You wicked and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed? ²⁷ Then you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. ²⁸ Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents. ²⁹ For to every one who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. ³⁰ And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

¹² Therefore he said: "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and then return. ¹³ So he called ten of his servants, gave them ten minas, and said to them, 'Do business till I come.' ¹⁴ But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, 'We do not want this man to reign over us.' ¹⁵ And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading. ¹⁶ Then came the first, saying, ' Master, your mina has earned ten minas more.' ¹⁷ And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, be in authority over ten cities.' ¹⁸ And the second came, saying, 'Master, your mina has earned five minas.' ¹⁹ Likewise he said to him, 'You also be over five cities.' ²⁰ Then another came, saying, 'Master, here is your mina, which I have kept laid away in a handkerchief; ²¹ for I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.' ²² He said to him, 'I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? ²³ Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?' ²⁴ And he said to those who stood by, 'Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.' ²⁵ And they said to him, 'Master, he has ten minas already!' ²⁶ 'I tell you, that to every one who has will more be given; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

⁶ These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.

¹⁷ Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

³ Then after they had fasted and prayed, they laid their hands on them and sent them off.

⁶ And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

⁶ Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; ⁷ if service, let us use it in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; ⁸ he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

¹⁹ Do not quench the Spirit;

¹⁸ I give you this command, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies once made about you, that by them you may fight the good fight,

²² Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others; keep yourself pure.

⁹ Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. ¹⁰ As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of God's varied grace. ¹¹ Whoever speaks is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belongs the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

¹⁵ You know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints. Now I urge you, brethren,

¹⁴ knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.

⁵ And they did not do as we expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.

¹⁵ so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, ¹⁶ holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

⁹ But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them.

³⁴ "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly like a trap.

²⁶ Therefore, I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. ²⁸ Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he purchased with the blood of his Own.

²² To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would happen:

⁷ to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life;

¹⁰ For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his mouth and so is saved. ¹¹ The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." ¹² For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches on all who call upon him. ¹³ For, "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." ¹⁴ How then can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without a preacher?

¹⁴ in the hope that I may somehow arouse to jealousy the kinsmen of my flesh and save some of them.

¹⁷ I urge you, brethren, to take note of those who cause divisions and difficulties, contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; avoid them.

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. ¹¹ For no other foundation can any one lay than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

²² To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I might by all means save some.

²⁷ But I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

¹⁷ Say to Archippus, "See to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it."

¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last.

¹⁹ For who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at his coming? ²⁰ For you are our glory and joy.

³ As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines,

¹⁰ Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

¹⁴ But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, knowing from whom you learned it,

⁹ he must hold firm to the sure word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to refute those who contradict it.

¹⁹ I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand, I will pay it backnot to mention that you owe me even your own self.

¹⁵ See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness spring up and cause trouble, and by it many become defiled;

²⁰ let him know that whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

⁸ Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward. ⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
