¹² Let no one look down on your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

⁴ But as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, distresses, ⁵ in beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, sleeplessness, hunger, ⁶ in purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love, ⁷ in truthful speech, and in the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; ⁸ through glory and dishonor, evil report and good report; true, yet regarded as impostors; ⁹ as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; ¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. ¹¹ Our mouth has spoken freely to you, O Corinthians. Our heart is opened wide. ¹² You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. ¹³ Now in a fair exchangeI speak as to my childrenopen wide your hearts also. ¹⁴ Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? ¹⁵ What harmony has Christ with Belial? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? ¹⁶ What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.

⁸ Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

⁶ You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit;

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless we behaved toward you believers;

⁷ For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, ⁸ nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship we worked night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you. ⁹ We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves an example for you to follow.

¹⁴ and the grace of our Lord was overflowing for me, with the faith and love that are found in Christ Jesus.

⁷ Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

¹⁵ Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

²² Now flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

⁷ Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness,

¹⁵ Speak these things; exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good life let him show his deeds in the humility of wisdom.

¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or hypocrisy.

³ not as lording it over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.

⁵ For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge, ⁶ and to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance, and to perseverance, godliness, ⁷ and to godliness, brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness, love. ⁸ For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
