¹² For our boast is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with holiness and godly sincerity, not in worldly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and still more toward you.

¹ And Paul, looking intently at the council, said, "Brethren, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day."

¹⁶ And so I do my best always to have a clear conscience before God and men.

¹ I am speaking the truth in Christ, I am not lying; my conscience bears me witness in the Holy Spirit,

¹⁸ For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple. ¹⁹ For your obedience has become known to all, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.

⁴ and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, ⁵ so that your faith might not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

¹³ This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.

⁴ I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not acquitted by this. It is the Lord who judges me.

⁸ Let us, therefore, celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of themyet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

¹⁷ When I was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or do I make my plans in a fleshly manner so that in the same breath I say, "Yes, Yes" and "No, No"?

¹⁷ For we are not, like so many, peddling the word of God; but as men of sincerity, as from God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

² But we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

⁸ I am not speaking this as a command, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others.

² I beg you that when I am present I may not have to be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. ³ For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war as the flesh does. ⁴ For the weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world, but they have divine power to destroy strongholds.

³ But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

¹⁵ I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you the more, am I to be loved the less? ¹⁶ But be that as it may, I did not burden you myself. Yet, crafty fellow that I am, I caught you by trickery! ¹⁷ Did I take advantage of you through any of those whom I sent to you? ¹⁸ I urged Titus to go, and I sent the brother with him. Titus did not take advantage of you, did he? Did we not act in the same spirit and walk in the same steps? ¹⁹ Have you been thinking all along that we have been defending ourselves before you? It is in the sight of God that we have been speaking in Christ, and all for your upbuilding, beloved.

⁴ But let each one test his own work, and then he will have reason to boast in himself alone, and not in his neighbor.

¹⁴ Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

¹⁰ so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ;

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless we behaved toward you believers;

⁵ But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

¹⁹ holding faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and made shipwreck of their faith. ²⁰ Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan so that they will be taught not to blaspheme.

⁷ Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness,

¹⁸ Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to live honorably in all things.

¹³ Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good life let him show his deeds in the humility of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not such as comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice. ¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, without uncertainty or hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

⁶ But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

¹⁶ and keep a clear conscience, so that, when you are abused, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

²¹ And corresponding to that, baptism now saves younot the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good consciencethrough the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

¹⁹ By this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him ²⁰ whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. ²¹ Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God; ²² and we receive from him whatever we ask, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
