¹⁵ See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness spring up and cause trouble, and by it many become defiled;

¹⁶ You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? ¹⁷ Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

³² But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren."

³⁰ and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. ³¹ Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night and day to admonish each one with tears.

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough?

²⁴ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. ²⁵ Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. ²⁶ Therefore I do not run aimlessly. I do not box as a man beating the air. ²⁷ But I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

¹² Therefore let any one who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

⁸ Love never fails; but where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

³³ Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."

¹ Working together with him, then, we urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain.

⁵ Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in youunless, indeed, you fail the test?

¹³ The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy.

⁴ You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen away from grace.

³ But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.

⁵ Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and greed, which is idolatry.

¹⁶ Avoid godless chatter, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, ¹⁷ and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,

¹ Therefore we must pay more careful attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. ² For if the message spoken by angels was valid, and every transgression and disobedience received a just punishment,

¹² Take care, brethren, lest there be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.

¹ Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear lest any one of you be judged to have come short of it.

¹¹ Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience.

¹¹ And we desire each one of you to show the same diligence in realizing the full assurance of hope until the end,

²³ Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful; ²⁴ and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, ²⁵ not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the Day drawing near. ²⁶ For if we sin deliberately after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷ but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire which will consume the adversaries. ²⁸ Anyone who has rejected the law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much severer punishment do you think a man will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as an unclean thing the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge his people." ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. ³² But remember the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings, ³³ sometimes being publicly exposed to insult and persecution; and at other times standing side by side with those who were so treated. ³⁴ For you had compassion on the prisoners, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. ³⁵ Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.

¹⁰ Therefore, brethren, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall;

¹ But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. ² And many will follow their licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled.

¹⁸ For speaking out arrogant words of vanity, they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error.

¹¹ Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy lives and godliness,

¹⁴ Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by him in peace, spotless and blameless.

⁸ Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward.

²⁰ But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; ²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God; wait anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
