1 After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.
2 And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
3 Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.
4 Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road.
5 Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.'
6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.
7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they give, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.
8 Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.
9 Heal the sick there and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'
10 But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say,
11 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.'
12 I tell you, it will be more tolerable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
13 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14 But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
15 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades!
16 "He who hears you hears me, he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."
17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name."
18 And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19 Behold, I have given you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.
20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."
21 At that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for so it was your good pleasure.
22 All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes which see what you see.
24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it."
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"
27 And he answered, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind'; and 'your neighbor as yourself.'"
28 And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."
29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"
30 Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him of his clothing, beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.
32 So likewise, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion.
34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.'
36 Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?"
37 He said, "The one who showed mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
38 Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his word.
40 But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me."
41 But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things;
42 but only one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

24 But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you."
Matthew 11:20-23
20 Then he began to rebuke the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.
21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
23 And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
Mark 8:22-26
22 And they came to Bethsaida; and some people brought a blind man to him, and begged him to touch him.
23 So he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. And when he had spit on his eyes and put his hands on him, he asked him "Do you see anything?"
24 And he looked up and said, "I see men; but they look like trees, walking."
25 Then he put his hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored, and saw everything clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his home, saying, "Do not even go into the village."
Luke 9:10-17
10 And when the apostles returned, they told him what they had done. Then he took them with him and withdrew apart to a city called Bethsaida.
11 But when the crowds learned it, they followed him; and he welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing.
12 Now the day began to wear away; and the twelve came and said to him, "Send the crowd away, to go to the surrounding villages and country, to lodge and get provisions; for we are here in a deserted place."
13 But he said to them, "You give them something to eat." And they said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fishunless we go and buy food for all these people."
14 For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, "Make them sit down in groups of about fifty each."
15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.
16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the people.
17 They all ate and were satisfied, and they took up twelve baskets of broken pieces that were left over.

Acts 28:25-28
25 When they disagreed among themselves, they began to leave, after Paul had made one final statement: "The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:
26 saying, 'Go to this people and say, "you will be ever hearing, but will never understand; and you will be ever seeing, but will never perceive.
27 For this people's heart has become dull, and with their ears they scarcely hear, and their eyes they have closed; otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them."'
28 Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen."
Romans 9:29-33
29 And as Isaiah said: "Unless the Lord of hosts had left us children, we would have become like Sodom, and we would have been made like Gomorrah."
30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, righteousness through faith;
31 but Israel, who pursued the law of righteousness, has not attained that law.
32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,
33 as it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone that will make men stumble, and a rock that will make them fall; and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."
Romans 11:8-11
8 as it is written: "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, down to this very day."
9 And David says: "Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them.
10 Let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see, and bend their backs forever."
11 So I ask, have they stumbled so as to fall? Certainly not! But through their trespass salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make Israel jealous.

47 And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not ready himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48 But he who did not know, and committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask the more.

19 And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
John 15:22-25
22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.
23 He who hates me hates my Father also.
24 If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.
25 But this is to fulfill the word that is written in their law, 'They hated me without a cause.'

Romans 8:31-39
31 What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also give us all things with him?
33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.
34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who is also interceding for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written: "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

25 At that time Jesus declared, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to babes.
26 Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
27 "All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
Matthew 13:11-16
11 And he answered them, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.
12 For whoever has, to him will more be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
13 This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says: 'Hearing you will hear and shall not understand; and seeing you will see and not perceive.
15 For this people's heart has grown dull. And their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and they understand with their hearts, and turn so that I should heal them.'
16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear.

John 17:24-26
24 Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me may be with me where I am, that they may behold my glory which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 O righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you; and these know that you sent me.
26 I have made known to them your name, and will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them."
1 Corinthians 1:9-29
9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 I appeal to you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For I have been informed by Chloe's people, that there are quarrels among you, my brethren.
12 What I mean is this, that each one of you says, "I am of Paul," and "I of Apollos," and "I of Cephas," and "I of Christ."
13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I am thankful that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,
15 so that no one would say you were baptized in my name.
16 (Now I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any one else.)
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospelnot with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.
18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19 For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the cleverness of the clever I will frustrate."
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,
23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,
24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For consider your call, brethren; not many of you were wise according to fleshly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.
27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong,
28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are,
29 so that no flesh may boast before God.
1 Corinthians 2:6-8
6 Yet we do speak a wisdom among the mature, a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away.
7 But we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and which God destined for our glory before the ages.
8 None of the rulers of this age understood it; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
1 Corinthians 3:18-20
18 Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become a fool so that he may become wise.
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness";
20 and again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile."
2 Corinthians 4:3

John 5:22-27
22 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,
23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
25 Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself,
27 and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.
John 6:44-46
44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.

10 As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you inquired and searched carefully,

12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaventhings into which angels long to look.
Matthew 19:16-19
16 Now behold, one came up and said to him, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to have eternal life?"
17 And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments."

14 What good is it, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has no works? Can such faith save him?
15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,
16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?
1 John 3:16-18
16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

32 If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.
33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much back.
35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For he is kind to the ungrateful and evil.
36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Hebrews 2:9-15
9 But we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering.
11 For both he who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
12 saying, "I will declare your name to my brethren, in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise."
13 And again, "I will put my trust in him." And again, "Here am I, and the children God has given me."
14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.

1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
2 It was this Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

4 When Jesus heard it, he said, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it."

1 Corinthians 7:32-40
32 But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the affairs of the Lord, how he may please the Lord;
33 but a married man is concerned about the affairs of the world, how he may please his wife,
34 and his interests are divided. The unmarried woman, and the virgin, is concerned about the affairs of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but the married woman is concerned about the affairs of the world, how she may please her husband.
35 This I say for your own benefit, not to put a restraint upon you, but to promote what is good and to secure undivided devotion to the Lord.
36 But if any man thinks that he is not acting properly toward his betrothed, if she is past her youth, and if it must be so, let him do what he wishes, he does not sin; let them marry.
37 But he who stands firm in his heart, being under no constraint, but has control over his own will, and has decided this in his own heart, to keep her as his betrothed, he will do well.
38 So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who does not marry her will do better.
39 A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.
40 But in my judgment she is happier if she remains as she is; and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.

John 6:27
27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal."
Matthew 6:25-34
25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his span of life?
28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin,
29 yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

1 Corinthians 7:32-35
32 But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the affairs of the Lord, how he may please the Lord;

22 When Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
John 4:14
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. The water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Galatians 5:6
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any avail, but faith working through love.
Colossians 2:10-19
10 and you have been made complete in him, who is the head over all rule and authority.
11 In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;
12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.
13 When you were dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our sins,
14 having canceled the certificate of debt, which stood against us with its decrees. He took what was hostile away from us, nailing it to the cross.
15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them through him.
16 Therefore let no one judge you in questions of food or drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day.
17 These things are only a shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.
18 Let no one disqualify you for the prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, puffed up without cause by his fleshly mind,
19 and not holding fast to the head, from whom the whole body, nourished and held together by its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
