1 One day as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes, together with the elders, came up to him
2 and said to him, "Tell us by what authority are you doing these things? Or who it is that gave you this authority."
3 He answered them, "I also will ask you a question; now tell me,
4 the baptism of Johnwas it from heaven or from men?"
5 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why did you not believe him?'
6 But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet."
7 So they answered that they did not know where it was from.
8 And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."
9 Then he began to tell the people this parable: "A man planted a vineyard, leased it to vine-dressers, and went into another country for a long time.
10 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants, that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
11 He sent another servant; him also they beat and treated shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.
12 He sent a third; and they wounded him and cast him out.
13 Then the owner of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.'
14 But when the tenants saw him, they reasoned among themselves and said, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'
15 So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 He will come and destroy those tenants, and give the vineyard to others." When they heard this, they said, "May this never be!"
17 But he looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone'?
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."
19 The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the peoplefor they knew that he had spoken this parable against them.
20 So they watched him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they might catch him on what he said, in order to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
21 And they asked him, "Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and you do not show partiality, but teach the way of God in truth.
22 Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,
24 "Show me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?" They said, "Caesar's."
25 He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
26 And they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him by what he said. But marveling at his answer they were silent.
27 Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him,
28 and they questioned him, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the wife and raise up children for his brother.
29 Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died without children.
30 And the second
31 and then the third took her, and in the same way the seven died, and they left no children.
32 Finally the woman died also.
33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will she be? For all seven had her as wife."
34 And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage.
35 But those who are considered worthy to attain that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,
36 nor can they die any more, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord 'the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.'
38 Now he is not the God of the dead but of the living, for all live to him."
39 And some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you have spoken well."
40 For they no longer dared to ask him any question.
41 And he said to them, "How can they say that the Christ is the Son of David?
42 For David himself says in the Book of Psalms, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,
43 till I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."'
44 David therefore calls him 'Lord,' and how is he his son?"
45 And in the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,
46 "Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,
47 who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive greater condemnation."

23 He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said."
24 Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.
25 They asked him, "Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?"

35 And the tenants took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another.
36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did the same to them.
37 Last of all, he sent his son to them saying, 'They will respect my son,'
38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.'

3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing.
6 If anyone does not abide in me, he is like a branch that is cast away and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned.

10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

8 And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the young child, and when you have found him, bring back word to me, so that I too may come and worship him."
9 When they had heard the king they went their way; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, until it came to rest over the place where the child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
11 On coming into the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, and of frankincense, and of myrrh.
12 And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Josnt in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him."
14 When he rose, he took the young child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt,
15 and remained there until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, "Out of Egypt have I called my son."

25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and having no children, he left his wife to his brother.
26 So the second also, and the third, down to the seventh.
27 After them all, the woman died.
28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her."
29 But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
31 But as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God,

22 So the seven had her and left no children. Last of all the woman died also.
23 In the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife."
24 Jesus said to them, "Is not this why you are wrong, that you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God?
25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
26 And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?

2 But because of immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.
3 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.
4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.
5 Do not deprive one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
6 I say this by way of concession, not of command.
7 I wish that all men were as I myself am. But each man has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.
8 But I say to the unmarried and to the widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I.
9 But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
10 To the married I give charge, not I but the Lord, that the wife should not separate from her husband
11 (but if she does leave, she must remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not divorce his wife.
12 But to the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he must not divorce her.
13 If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she must not divorce him.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy.
15 But if the unbelieving partner leaves, let him do so; in such a case the brother or sister is not bound. For God has called us to peace.
16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?

17 and if children, then heirsheirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, in order that we may also be glorified with him.
18 I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed in us.
19 For the creation waits with eager expectation for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but by the will of him who subjected it in hope;
21 because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning in birth pangs together until now.
23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
53 For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
13 But we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
15 For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
1 John 3:1-2
1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God! And so we are! The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
Revelation 5:6-14
6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders, I saw a Lamb standing, as if it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
7 And he came and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne.
8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
9 And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals; for you were slain, and with your blood purchased men for God from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth."
11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands,
12 saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!"
13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"
14 And the four living creatures said, "Amen!" And the elders fell down and worshipped.

10 and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."
11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God,
12 saying, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen."

4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
5 And there will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light; and they will reign for ever and ever.

4 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding.'"
5 But they made light of it and went off, one to his own farm, another to his business.
6 And the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them.
7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
8 Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
9 Go therefore to the highways, and invite to the marriage feast as many as you find.'
10 And those servants went out into the streets and gathered all whom they found, both bad and good; so the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment.
12 And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless.
13 Then the king said to the attendants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
14 For many are called, but few are chosen."
15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how to entangle him in his talk.
16 And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God in truth, and you care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men.
17 Tell us, then, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?
19 Show me the money for the tax." And they brought him a denarius.
20 And he said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?"
21 They said, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
22 When they heard it, they marveled; and they left him and went away.

31 The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
32 And the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher; you have well said that God is one, and there is no other but he;
