⁶³ Now the men who were holding Jesus mocked him and beat him.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death, ⁶⁰ but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward ⁶¹ and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'" ⁶² And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" ⁶³ But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." ⁶⁴ Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. But I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven." ⁶⁵ Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard his blasphemy. ⁶⁶ What do you think?" They answered, "He is worthy of death." ⁶⁷ Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists; and others slapped him, ⁶⁸ saying, "Prophesy to us, Christ! Who is the one who struck you?"

²⁸ And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, ²⁹ and when they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand. And they bowed the knee before him and mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!" ³⁰ And they spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head. ³¹ And when they had mocked him, they took the robe off him, put his own clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.

³⁹ And those who passed by hurled insults at him, wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross." ⁴¹ So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, ⁴² "He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. ⁴³ He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" ⁴⁴ And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

⁵⁵ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. ⁵⁶ For many bore false witness against him, but their testimonies did not agree. ⁵⁷ Then some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, ⁵⁸ "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another not made with hands.'" ⁵⁹ Yet even then their testimony did not agree. ⁶⁰ And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" ⁶¹ But he was silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" ⁶² And Jesus said, "I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven." ⁶³ The high priest tore his clothes and said, "Why do we need any more witnesses? ⁶⁴ You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" And they all condemned him as worthy of death. ⁶⁵ Then some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to beat him, and to say to him, "Prophesy!" And the guards received him with slaps in the face.

¹⁶ The soldiers led him away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and they called together the whole battalion. ¹⁷ And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and they twisted a crown of thorns and put it on him. ¹⁸ And they began to salute him, "Hail, King of the Jews!" ¹⁹ Then they struck him on the head with a reed and spat on him; and falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. ²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took the purple robe off him, and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.

²⁷ And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left. ²⁸ (...)²⁹ And those who passed by hurled insults at him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Aha! You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, ³⁰ save yourself, and come down from the cross!" ³¹ So also the chief priests mocked him among themselves with the scribes, and said, "He saved others; he cannot save himself. ³² Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe." Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.

²² And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, "Is that the way you answer the high priest?"

² fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

²³ when he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he uttered no threats, but he trusted himself to him who judges justly.
