⁴⁴ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

²⁵ At that time Jesus declared, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to babes.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.

¹¹ Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered me to you has the greater sin."

²³ When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments, and made four parts, one for each soldier, and also his tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven in one piece from top to bottom. ²⁴ So they said to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be." This happened that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: "They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots." This is what the soldiers did.

¹⁷ And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers.

⁶⁰ Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

⁸ None of the rulers of this age understood it; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

¹² and we toil, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure;

¹³ Even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor, I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;

²⁰ For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you patiently endure? But if when you do right and suffer for it you patiently endure, you have favor with God. ²¹ For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. ²² "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;" ²³ when he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he uttered no threats, but he trusted himself to him who judges justly.

⁹ Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but give a blessing instead; for to this you were called, that you may inherit a blessing.
