³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner."

¹² But when Jesus heard it, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. ¹³ But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

⁸ Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

³⁷ And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of perfume,

¹⁷ And he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?'

² And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."

²⁸ But he was angry and refused to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him. ²⁹ But he answered his father, 'Behold, these many years I have been serving you, and I never disobeyed your command; yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. ³⁰ But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!'

³ The steward said to himself, 'What shall I do, since my master is taking the stewardship away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to beg.

⁴ For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor regard man,

⁹ Also he told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: ¹⁰ "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other menextortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

¹⁹ The woman said to him, "Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.

¹² And there was much complaining among the people about him. Some said, "He is a good man"; others said, "No, on the contrary, he deceives the people."

⁴⁰ When they heard these words, some of the people said, "Surely this is the prophet." ⁴¹ Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come from Galilee?

⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, "Are you deceived, you also? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed." ⁵⁰ Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before, and who was one of them, said to them, ⁵¹ "Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he is doing?" ⁵² They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Search and look, and you will find that no prophet is to rise out of Galilee."

²⁴ So for the second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, "Give God the glory; we know that this man is a sinner."
