²³ As they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in danger.

²² One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, "Let us go over to the other side of the lake." So they set out.

¹⁴ But before very long there rushed down from the land a violent wind, called the northeaster; ¹⁵ and when the ship was caught in it and could not face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along. ¹⁶ And running under the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were scarcely able to secure the boat. ¹⁷ After they had hoisted it up, they used supporting cables to undergird the ship; and fearing that they might run aground on the shallows of Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor and in this way let themselves be driven along. ¹⁸ The next day as we were being violently storm-tossed, they began to throw the cargo overboard; ¹⁹ and on the third day they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands. ²⁰ When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small storm was raging on us, all hope of our being saved was finally abandoned.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
