¹ And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness. ² The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; ³ Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; ⁴ Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. ⁵ These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them: "Do not go among the Gentiles, or enter any town of the Samaritans. ⁶ But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ⁷ And preach as you go, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' ⁸ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. ⁹ Take no gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts, ¹⁰ nor bag for your journey, nor two tunics, nor sandals, nor a staff; for the worker is worthy of his food. ¹¹ Now whatever village or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there until you go out. ¹² As you enter the house, give it your greeting. ¹³ And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. ¹⁴ And if any one will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. ¹⁵ Truly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town. ¹⁶ "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. ¹⁷ But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and flog you in their synagogues. ¹⁸ You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. ¹⁹ But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour; ²⁰ for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. ²¹ Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. ²² And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. ²³ When they persecute you in one city, flee to another. For truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. ²⁴ "A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. ²⁵ It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household! ²⁶ "So do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. ²⁷ What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim on the housetops. ²⁸ And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. ²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father's will. ³⁰ But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. ³¹ Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. ³² "Therefore whoever acknowledges me before men, him I will also acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven. ³³ But whoever denies me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven. ³⁴ "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to set a man 'against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; ³⁶ and a man's enemies will be those of his own household.' ³⁷ He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; ³⁸ and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. ³⁹ He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. ⁴⁰ "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. ⁴¹ He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward, and he who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'

²⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

²⁰ When evening had come, he sat at the table with the twelve.

⁴⁷ While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. ¹⁹ Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

¹³ And he went up on the mountain, and called to him those he himself wanted. And they came to him. ¹⁴ Then he appointed twelve, that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach, ¹⁵ and to have authority to cast out the demons:

⁷ And he called to him the twelve, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. ⁸ He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staffno bag, no bread, no money in their belts ⁹ but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. ¹⁰ And he said to them, "Where you enter a house, stay there until you leave that place. ¹¹ And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to hear you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them." ¹² So they went out and preached that people should repent. ¹³ And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.

¹⁷ And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; ¹⁸ they will pick up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover."

¹³ And when it was day, he called his disciples to himself; and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles:

¹ Then he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. ³ And he said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. ⁴ Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. ⁵ And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them." ⁶ So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

¹⁹ Behold, I have given you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

⁴⁹ And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city, until you are clothed with power from on high."

²⁷ John answered, "A man can receive only what is given to him from heaven.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?"

² as you have given him authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to all those you have given him.

²¹ Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I also send you." ²² And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. ²³ If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

⁸ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth."

¹⁵ but killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. ¹⁶ And his name, by faith in his name, has made this man strong whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Jesus has given him perfect health in the presence of you all.

¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?"

¹ A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars;

¹² It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. ¹³ There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. ¹⁴ And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

¹⁸ As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

²¹ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. And he called them,

¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." ¹⁷ And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I tell you, that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

¹ After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

²⁰ Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to him with her sons and, kneeling down, asked something of him.

³⁷ He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.

¹⁶ And as he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the Sea; for they were fishermen. ¹⁷ And Jesus said to them, "Come follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men."

²⁹ As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John, and entered the house of Simon and Andrew.

¹⁶ Simon, to whom he gave the name Peter; ¹⁷ James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, "Sons of Thunder"; ¹⁸ Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot; ¹⁹ and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

³ Now as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately,

¹⁰ and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men."

¹³ And when it was day, he called his disciples to himself; and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles: ¹⁴ Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip, and Bartholomew, ¹⁵ Matthew, and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot, ¹⁶ Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

¹⁰ And when the apostles returned, they told him what they had done. Then he took them with him and withdrew apart to a city called Bethsaida.

⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,'

⁸ So he sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat."

¹⁴ When the hour came, he sat at table, and the apostles with him.

⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. ⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which means the Christ). ⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You shall be called Cephas" (which means Peter).

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him,

²² Philip went and told Andrew; and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.

²³ One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was leaning close to the breast of Jesus.

² So she ran, and came to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him."

² Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together.

²⁰ Peter turned and saw following them the disciple whom Jesus loved, who had leaned on his breast at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?"

²⁴ This is the disciple who testifies to these things, and who wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true.

¹³ And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying; Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James.

²⁶ And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles.

¹ Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

² He had James the brother of John put to death with the sword.

⁷ Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.

¹¹ And he gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers,

¹ Therefore, holy brethren, who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession.

¹ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen exiles in the Dispersion, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

¹ Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

³ that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. ⁴ And we write this that our joy may be complete.

¹ The elder to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not only I, but also all who know the truth,

¹ The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.

¹ The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants what must soon take place. And he made it known by sending his angel to his servant John,

⁹ I, John, your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, because God has pronounced judgment for you against her!"

⁸ I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me.

⁹ As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him.

⁵⁶ among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's sons.

¹⁴ As he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, "Follow me." So he rose and followed him.

¹⁸ Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot;

²⁷ After this he went out, and saw a tax collector, named Levi, sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, "Follow me."

⁴³ The next day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." ⁴⁴ Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."

⁵ Then Jesus lifted up his eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread, that these people may eat?" ⁶ But this he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. ⁷ Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each one of them to have a little."

¹⁶ Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him."

²¹ Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." ²² Philip went and told Andrew; and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.

⁹ Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?"

²⁴ Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵ So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger in the mark of the nails, and put my hand in his side, I will not believe." ²⁶ Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you!" ²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands. Reach out your hand, and put it into my side; do not be unbelieving, but believing." ²⁸ Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" ²⁹ Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

¹⁷ But motioning to them with his hand to be silent, he described to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, "Tell this to James and to the brethren." Then he left and went to another place.

¹³ After they finished speaking, James replied, "Brethren, listen to me.

¹⁸ And the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present.

¹⁹ But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord's brother.

⁹ and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

¹ Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ:

¹⁴ Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests

³ When Judas, his betrayer, saw that he was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,

¹⁰ Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray him to them.

⁴³ And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.

³ Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, who was numbered of the twelve.

⁴⁷ While he was still speaking, a crowd came, and the man who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him;

⁷¹ He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who was to betray him, though one of the twelve.

² And during supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him,

²⁶ Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I shall give this piece of bread when I have dipped it." And having dipped the bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. ²⁷ Then after the bread, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly." ²⁸ But no one at the table knew why he said this to him. ²⁹ Some thought that, because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him, "Buy what we need for the feast"; or, that he should give something to the poor. ³⁰ Having received the piece of bread, he went out immediately. And it was night.

² Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with his disciples. ³ So Judas, having received a detachment of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons. ⁴ Then Jesus, knowing all that was to come upon him, went forward and said to them, "Whom do you seek?" ⁵ They answered him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am he." And Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.

¹⁶ "Brethren, the scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David, concerning Judas who was guide to those who arrested Jesus. ¹⁷ For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry." ¹⁸ (Now this man bought a field with the reward of his wickedness; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out. ¹⁹ And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) ²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, 'Let his homestead be made desolate, and let there be no one to dwell in it'; and, 'let another man take his office.'

²⁵ to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside, to go to his own place."

¹⁵ "The land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles

³ and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; but they were not willing to come.

² And he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

⁵² And he sent messengers on ahead, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him; ⁵³ but the people did not receive him, because his face was set for Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?"

¹ After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.

³³ But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was; and when he saw him, he had compassion.

¹⁶ and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.

⁵ So he came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

⁹ Then the woman of Samaria said to him, "How is it that you, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

²⁰ Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship."

²² You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. ²³ But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. ²⁴ God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

³⁹ Many of the Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman's testimony, "He told me all that I ever did." ⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them; and he stayed there two days.

³⁵ The Jews said to one another, "Where does this man intend to go that we shall not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?

⁴⁸ The Jews answered him, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?"

²¹ Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I also send you."

¹ Saul was consenting to his death. And on that day a great persecution arose against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the region of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

⁵ Philip went down to a city of Samaria and proclaimed Christ to them. ⁶ The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, when they heard and saw the signs which he did. ⁷ For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. ⁸ So there was much joy in that city. ⁹ Now there was a man named Simon, who had formerly practiced magic in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, ¹⁰ and they all, from the least to the greatest, gave attention to him, saying, "This man is what is called the Great Power of God." ¹¹ And they gave heed to him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. ¹² But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. ¹³ Even Simon himself believed, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed, he was amazed. ¹⁴ Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, ¹⁵ who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. ¹⁶ For he had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. ¹⁷ Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, "Give me also this power, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." ²⁰ But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! ²¹ You have no part or share in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. ²² Repent therefore of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. ²³ For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity." ²⁴ And Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me." ²⁵ Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.

⁴⁵ All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.

²¹ And he said to me, 'Go; for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.'" ²² Up to this word they listened to him, and then they raised their voices and said, "Away with such a fellow from the earth! For he ought not to live." ²³ And as they were crying out and throwing off their cloaks and tossing dust into the air,

⁸ For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised to show God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs, ⁹ and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: "Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name";

¹⁶ hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them at last.

²⁴ He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." ²⁵ But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me!" ²⁶ And he answered, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."

¹⁰ "See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

³ So he told them this parable: ⁴ "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? ⁵ And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. ⁶ And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost.' ⁷ I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. ⁸ "Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? ⁹ And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.' ¹⁰ In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

⁴⁷ and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

²⁶ For you first, God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways."

⁴⁶ Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you reject it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁶ But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his garments and said to them, "Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles."

²⁰ but declared first to those at Damascus, then at Jerusalem and throughout all the country of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and perform deeds worthy of their repentance.

²⁵ When they disagreed among themselves, they began to leave, after Paul had made one final statement: "The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet: ²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people and say, "you will be ever hearing, but will never understand; and you will be ever seeing, but will never perceive. ²⁷ For this people's heart has become dull, and with their ears they scarcely hear, and their eyes they have closed; otherwise they might see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them."' ²⁸ Therefore let it be known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen."

¹¹ So I ask, have they stumbled so as to fall? Certainly not! But through their trespass salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make Israel jealous. ¹² Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fullness mean! ¹³ Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry ¹⁴ in the hope that I may somehow arouse to jealousy the kinsmen of my flesh and save some of them. ¹⁵ For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

²⁵ For you were straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

¹⁷ From that time Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

¹ And when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.

¹¹ Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. ¹² From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

⁴³ "Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it.

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor do you allow those who would enter to go in.

¹² So they went out and preached that people should repent.

⁶ So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

⁶⁰ Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."

⁹ Heal the sick there and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' ¹⁰ But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, ¹¹ 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.'

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

² This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him."

² being greatly disturbed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

²⁵ When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshipped him.

³¹ preaching the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ quite openly and unhindered.

¹ And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness.

¹⁸ they will pick up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover."

⁹ Heal the sick there and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

⁶ But Peter said, "I do not have silver and gold, but I give you what I have; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk."

⁹ if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a cripple, as to how this man has been healed, ¹⁰ be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man stands before you healed.

³⁰ while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders take place through the name of your holy servant Jesus."

¹² Now many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Porch. ¹³ None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high honor. ¹⁴ And all the more believers in the Lord, multitudes of men and women, were constantly added to their number, ¹⁵ so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, so that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.

¹⁸ Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, "Give me also this power, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." ²⁰ But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! ²¹ You have no part or share in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. ²² Repent therefore of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. ²³ For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity."

³³ I have coveted no one's silver or gold or clothes. ³⁴ You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my own needs and to the men who were with me. ³⁵ In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

⁸ He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staffno bag, no bread, no money in their belts ⁹ but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. ¹⁰ And he said to them, "Where you enter a house, stay there until you leave that place. ¹¹ And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to hear you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them."

³ And he said to them, "Take nothing for the journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. ⁴ Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. ⁵ And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them."

⁴ Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. ⁵ Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.' ⁶ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you. ⁷ And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they give, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. ⁸ Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you. ⁹ Heal the sick there and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' ¹⁰ But whenever you enter a town and they do not receive you, go into its streets and say, ¹¹ 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.' ¹² I tell you, it will be more tolerable on that day for Sodom than for that town.

³⁵ And he said to them, "When I sent you out with no purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" They said, "Nothing."

⁷ Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk? ⁸ Do I say this merely from a human point of view? Does not the Law say the same thing? ⁹ For it is written in the Law of Moses, "You shall not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." Is it for oxen that God is concerned? ¹⁰ Or is he speaking altogether for our sake? Yes, for our sake it was written, because the plowman ought to plow in hope, and the thresher to thresh in hope of sharing the crops. ¹¹ If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you? ¹² If others share this right of support from you, do not we all the more? Nevertheless, we did not make use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Do you not know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar? ¹⁴ In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living from the gospel. ¹⁵ But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me. I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of my ground for boasting. ¹⁶ For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion. For woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! ¹⁷ For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if it is not of my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me. ¹⁸ What then is my reward? Just this: that in my preaching I may offer the gospel free of charge, and so not make full use of my right in the gospel. ¹⁹ For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more. ²⁰ To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews; to those under the law I became as one under the lawthough not being myself under the lawso that I might win those under the law. ²¹ To those who are without law, I became as one without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without the law. ²² To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I might by all means save some. ²³ I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. ²⁴ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. ²⁵ Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. ²⁶ Therefore I do not run aimlessly. I do not box as a man beating the air. ²⁷ But I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

¹¹ And he answered them, "He who has two tunics, let him share with him who has none; and he who has food, let him do likewise."

⁴ Do we not have the right to food and drink? ⁵ Do we not have a right to take along a believing wife, even as the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? ⁶ Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living? ⁷ Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? ¹³ When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and the books, especially the parchments.

¹⁰ And he said to them, "Where you enter a house, stay there until you leave that place.

⁴ Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart.

⁷ And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they give, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house. ⁸ Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you.

³⁸ Now as they went on their way, he entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, "Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me." ⁴¹ But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things; ⁴² but only one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

⁷ And when they saw it they all murmured, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner."

¹⁵ When she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us.

¹ After this he left Athens and went to Corinth. ² And he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, having recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. He went to see them, ³ and because he was of the same trade he stayed with them, and they worked, for by trade they were tentmakers.

⁷ For they went out for the sake of the Name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. ⁸ Therefore we ought to support such men, so that we may be fellow workers in the truth.

⁵ Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.' ⁶ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.

³⁶ You know the word which he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all).

²⁰ We are therefore ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making his appeal through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

¹⁴ I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name.

⁶ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.

¹⁶ to the one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

⁴⁰ "He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. ⁴¹ He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward, and he who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.

⁵ Whoever receives one little child like this in my name receives me.

¹¹ And if any place will not receive you and they refuse to hear you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them."

³⁷ "Whoever receives one of these little children in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me."

⁵ And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them."

⁴⁸ and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great."

²⁰ Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives anyone I send receives me; and he who receives me receives him who sent me."

⁵¹ So they shook off the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.

²⁶ Therefore, I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. ²⁷ For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.

⁸ Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will by any means pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

²² But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. ²³ And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You shall be brought down to Hades. For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ²⁴ But I tell you that it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom than for you."

³⁶ But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.

³⁴ Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place. ³⁵ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.

⁶ and if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly thereafter;

⁹ then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,

⁷ But by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

¹⁷ In this love is perfected among us, that we may have confidence for the Day of Judgment, because as he is so are we in this world.

³ Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.

²⁹ I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;

¹⁸ For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple. ¹⁹ For your obedience has become known to all, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.

²⁰ Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; be infants in evil, but in thinking be mature.

¹² For our boast is this: the testimony of our conscience, that with holiness and godly sincerity, not in worldly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and still more toward you.

²⁰ We intend that no one should blame us about this liberal gift which we are administering,

³ But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

¹⁴ And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

¹⁵ Be careful, then, how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise, ¹⁶ making the most of your time, because the days are evil. ¹⁷ Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

¹⁵ so that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

⁹ For this reason also, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

⁵ Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless we behaved toward you believers;

²² Abstain from every form of evil.

²² But I say to you that anyone who is angry with his brother shall be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca,' shall be answerable to the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of hell.

¹⁹ and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day."

³⁴ Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from town to town,

⁹ Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. ¹⁰ And then many will fall away, and will betray one another, and hate one another.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death,

⁹ But watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them.

¹² Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.

¹¹ Now when they bring you before the synagogues and rulers and authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you are to say;

¹² But before all this, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. And you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. ¹³ This will turn into an opportunity for you to bear testimony.

⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What are we to do? For this man performs many signs.

² They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.

⁶ and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. ⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they began to inquire, "By what power or by what name did you do this?" ⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, ⁹ if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a cripple, as to how this man has been healed, ¹⁰ be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man stands before you healed. ¹¹ He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the chief cornerstone. ¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." ¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus. ¹⁴ And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply. ¹⁵ But when they had ordered them to leave the Council, they conferred with one another, ¹⁶ saying, "What shall we do with these men? For that a noteworthy miracle has been performed through them is apparent to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no longer to any one in this name." ¹⁸ Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. ¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge; ²⁰ for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard." ²¹ And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for all the people were praising God for what had happened. ²² For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

²⁶ Then the captain went along with the officers and brought them back without violence, for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned. ²⁷ When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them, ²⁸ saying, "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man's blood upon us." ²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised Jesuswhom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior, to give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. ³² We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him." ³³ When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to kill them. ³⁴ But a Pharisee in the council named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, held in honor by all the people, stood up and ordered the men to be put outside for a while. ³⁵ And he said to them, "Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men. ³⁶ For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined him. But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. ³⁷ After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered. ³⁸ So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action is of men, it will fail; ³⁹ but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God." ⁴⁰ So they took his advice, and they called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ⁴¹ Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they had been counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. ⁴² And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

⁵ When an attempt was made by both the Gentiles and the Jews with their rulers, to mistreat them and to stone them, ⁶ they became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and to the surrounding country;

¹⁴ Then the brethren immediately sent Paul out to go as far as the sea, but Silas and Timothy remained there.

¹⁹ And I said, 'Lord, they themselves know that in one synagogue after another I used to imprison and beat those who believed in you.

¹ And Paul, looking intently at the council, said, "Brethren, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day." ² The high priest Ananias commanded those standing beside him to strike him on the mouth. ³ Then Paul said to him, "God shall strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you sit to judge me according to the law, and yet contrary to the law you order me to be struck?" ⁴ Those who stood by said, "Would you revile God's high priest?" ⁵ And Paul said, "I did not know, brethren, that he was the high priest; for it is written, 'You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.'" ⁶ But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, "Brethren, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees; with respect to the hope and the resurrection of the dead I am on trial." ⁷ When he said this, a dissension broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all. ⁹ There occurred a great uproar; and some of the scribes of the Pharisees' party stood up and began to argue heatedly, saying, "We find nothing wrong with this man. What if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?" ¹⁰ The dispute became so violent that the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them and ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force, and bring him into the barracks. ¹¹ The following night the Lord stood by him and said, "Take courage, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must bear witness also at Rome." ¹² When it was day, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. ¹³ There were more than forty who formed this plot. ¹⁴ They went to the chief priests and the elders and said, "We have bound ourselves under a solemn oath to taste nothing until we have killed Paul. ¹⁵ You therefore, along with the council, give notice now to the commander to bring him down to you, as though you were going to determine his case more exactly. And we are ready to kill him before he comes near." ¹⁶ But the son of Paul's sister heard of their ambush, and he went and entered the barracks and told Paul. ¹⁷ Paul called one of the centurions and said, "Take this young man to the commander; for he has something to tell him." ¹⁸ So he took him and brought him to the commander and said, "Paul the prisoner called me and asked me to bring this young man to you, since he has something to tell you." ¹⁹ The commander took him by the hand, and going aside asked him privately, "What is it that you have to tell me?" ²⁰ And he said, "The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down tomorrow to the Council, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more thoroughly about him. ²¹ But do not yield to them; for more than forty of them are waiting in ambush for him, having bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink until they have killed him; and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you." ²² So the commander dismissed the young man, instructing him, "Tell no one that you have informed me of this."

¹¹ And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being furiously enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

²⁴ Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the open sea. ²⁶ I have been on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, in danger from robbers, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles, in danger in the city, in danger in the wilderness, in danger at sea, and in danger from false brethren;

² Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those mutilators of the body.

¹⁵ Be on guard against him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message.

³⁶ And others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment.

⁴ And Jesus said to him, "See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

²⁵ And someone came and told them, "Look! The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people." ²⁶ Then the captain went along with the officers and brought them back without violence, for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned. ²⁷ When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them,

¹ Now about that time Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church in order to persecute them. ² He had James the brother of John put to death with the sword. ³ When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter also. This was during the days of Unleavened Bread. ⁴ When he had seized him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out to the people.

³³ When these had come to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul to him. ³⁴ When he had read the letter, he asked from what province he was, and when he learned that he was from Cilicia,

¹ After five days the high priest Ananias came down with some elders, with an attorney named Tertullus, and they brought their charges against Paul before the governor. ² And when Paul was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying to Felix: "Since through you we have enjoyed much peace, and since by your provision, reforms are introduced on behalf of this nation, ³ we acknowledge this in every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, with all gratitude. ⁴ But, that I may not weary you further, I beg you in your kindness to hear us briefly. ⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. ⁶ He even tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him. ⁷ (...)⁸ By examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these charges of which we accuse him." ⁹ The Jews also joined in the attack, asserting that these things were so. ¹⁰ When the governor had motioned for him to speak, Paul replied: "Realizing that for many years you have been a judge over this nation, I cheerfully make my defense. ¹¹ Since you can easily verify that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to worship. ¹² They did not find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the temple or in the synagogues, or in the city. ¹³ Neither can they prove to you the charges they are now making against me. ¹⁴ But this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect I do worship the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, ¹⁵ having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there will certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. ¹⁶ And so I do my best always to have a clear conscience before God and men. ¹⁷ Now after several years I came to bring alms to my nation and to present offerings. ¹⁸ As I was doing this, they found me purified in the temple, without any crowd or uproar. But there were some Jews from Asia ¹⁹ who ought to be here before you and to make accusation, if they should have anything against me. ²⁰ Or else let these men themselves tell what wrongdoing they found when I stood before the Council, ²¹ except this one thing which I shouted out while standing among them, 'With respect to the resurrection of the dead I am on trial before you today.'" ²² But Felix, having a more exact knowledge about the Way, put them off, saying, "When Lysias the commander comes down, I will decide your case." ²³ Then he gave orders to the centurion for him to be kept in custody but have some freedom, and not to prevent any of his friends from ministering to his needs. ²⁴ But some days later Felix came with Drusilla, his wife who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. ²⁵ But as he was discussing righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix became frightened and said, "Go away for the present, and when I find time I will summon you." ²⁶ At the same time, he was hoping that money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him.

⁸ So do not be ashamed to testify of our Lord or of me his prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,

¹⁶ At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me; may it not be counted against them. ¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth.

⁹ When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained;

⁷ When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them and kill them.

²⁵ "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

³¹ Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'

³⁴ Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

¹¹ And when they bring you to trial and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand what you are to say. But say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. ¹² Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. ¹³ And you will be hated by all men for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

¹² But before all this, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. And you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. ¹³ This will turn into an opportunity for you to bear testimony. ¹⁴ Therefore settle it in your minds not to meditate beforehand how you will answer; ¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. ¹⁶ You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. ¹⁷ You will be hated by all for my name's sake.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, ⁹ if we are being examined today for a good deed done to a cripple, as to how this man has been healed, ¹⁰ be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him this man stands before you healed. ¹¹ He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which has become the chief cornerstone. ¹² And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." ¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus. ¹⁴ And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they had nothing to say in reply.

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised Jesuswhom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior, to give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. ³² We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him." ³³ When they heard this, they were furious and wanted to kill them.

¹⁰ But they could not stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke.

² "I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews, ³ because you are especially familiar with all customs and controversies of the Jews; therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently. ⁴ So then, all the Jews know my manner of life from my youth up, which from the beginning was spent among my own nation and at Jerusalem. ⁵ They have known about me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that I lived as a Pharisee according to the strictest sect of our religion. ⁶ And now I am standing trial for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers; ⁷ the promise to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly serve God night and day. And for this hope, O King, I am being accused by Jews. ⁸ Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead? ⁹ I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. ¹⁰ And that is just what I did in Jerusalem; I not only shut up many of the saints in prison, by authority from the chief priests, but when they were put to death I cast my vote against them. ¹¹ And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being furiously enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

³² For the Gentiles seek after all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

³⁶ David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand till I put your enemies under your feet."'

¹³ If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

¹² for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."

³⁰ For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. ³¹ But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. ³² Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders,

⁵⁵ But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; ⁵⁶ and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."

⁹ But Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him

²⁵ When they disagreed among themselves, they began to leave, after Paul had made one final statement: "The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your fathers through Isaiah the prophet:

³ since you desire proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful in you.

¹² It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaventhings into which angels long to look.

²¹ for no prophecy was ever made by the act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

³⁴ "Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to set a man 'against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; ³⁶ and a man's enemies will be those of his own household.'

¹⁰ And then many will fall away, and will betray one another, and hate one another.

⁵¹ Do you think that I came to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. ⁵² For from now on there will be five in one house divided: three against two, and two against three. ⁵³ They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law."

¹¹ Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake.

³⁹ He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

⁹ Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake.

¹³ But he who endures to the end will be saved.

¹³ And you will be hated by all men for my name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

²² Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

¹⁵ But the ones that fell on the good soil are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify of it that its works are evil.

¹⁸ "If the world hates you, know that it hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But all this they will do to you for my name's sake, because they do not know him who sent me.

¹⁴ I have given them your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ for I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name."

⁷ to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life;

¹¹ For we who live are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

⁹ Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.

¹⁴ For we have come to share in Christ if we hold our first confidence firm to the end,

¹¹ And we desire each one of you to show the same diligence in realizing the full assurance of hope until the end,

¹² Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

¹³ Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.

²⁰ But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; ²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God; wait anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

³ I know you have persevered and have endured for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary.

⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.'

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful even until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

¹⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna. And I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone which no one knows except him who receives it.'

²⁶ He who overcomes, and keeps my works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations

²¹ To him who overcomes, I will grant to sit with me on my throne, as I also overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.

¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Josnt in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him."

¹² Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.

¹⁴ But the Pharisees went out and plotted against him, how they might destroy him. ¹⁵ Jesus, aware of this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all,

²⁸ Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

²⁷ For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

³⁰ Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

⁴⁸ But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,'

¹³ Therefore keep watch, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

⁶⁴ Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. But I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."

²⁶ Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

²⁹ And they rose up and cast him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw him down the cliff. ³⁰ But passing through the midst of them, he went his way. ³¹ Then he went down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and he was teaching them on the Sabbath.

⁸ I tell you that he will bring about justice for them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"

²⁷ Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

¹ After this Jesus went about in Galilee; he would not go about in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

³⁹ Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped from their hands. ⁴⁰ He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing at first, and there he stayed. ⁴¹ And many came to him and they said, "John performed no sign, but all that John said about this man was true." ⁴² And many believed in him there.

⁵³ So from that day on they plotted to put him to death. ⁵⁴ Jesus therefore no longer went about openly among the Jews, but went from there to the country near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim; and there he stayed with his disciples.

²⁴ but their plot became known to Saul. They were watching the gates day and night, to kill him; ²⁵ but his disciples took him by night and let him down through an opening in the wall, lowering him in a basket.

⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, and stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district. ⁵¹ So they shook off the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.

⁶ they became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and to the surrounding country; ⁷ and there they continued to preach the gospel.

¹⁹ But Jews came there from Antioch and Iconium; and having won over the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. ²⁰ But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and entered the city. And the next day he went with Barnabas to Derbe.

¹⁰ The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue.

¹ After the uproar had ceased, Paul sent for the disciples, and when he had exhorted them and taken his leave of them, he set out for Macedonia.

⁴⁰ A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.

¹⁶ Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

² fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary and lose heart. ⁴ In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.

³⁴ But the Pharisees said, "He casts out demons by the prince of demons."

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard this they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."

²² And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebub, and by the prince of demons he casts out the demons."

¹⁵ But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebub, the prince of demons."

²⁰ The people answered, "You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill you?"

⁵² The Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.'

²⁰ Many of them said, "He has a demon, and is mad. Why listen to him?"

²⁸ And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

²² For there is nothing hidden, except to be revealed; nor is anything secret, but that it should come to light.

¹⁷ For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.

² There is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. ³ Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops. ⁴ "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him! ⁶ Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. ⁷ Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows. ⁸ "I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. ⁹ But he who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.

¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge;

⁵ Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts. Then every man will receive his praise from God.

¹⁴ But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled,

¹ That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea. ² And great crowds gathered around him, so that he got into a boat and sat there; and the whole crowd stood on the shore. ³ Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A sower went out to sow his seed. ⁴ And as he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. ⁵ Some fell on rocky places, where they did not have much soil, and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of soil. ⁶ But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. ⁷ Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. ⁸ But other seed fell on good soil and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. ⁹ He who has ears, let him hear." ¹⁰ The disciples came and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?" ¹¹ And he answered them, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. ¹² For whoever has, to him will more be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. ¹³ This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. ¹⁴ In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says: 'Hearing you will hear and shall not understand; and seeing you will see and not perceive. ¹⁵ For this people's heart has grown dull. And their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and they understand with their hearts, and turn so that I should heal them.' ¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear. ¹⁷ For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.

³⁴ All these things Jesus spoke to the crowd in parables; and without a parable he did not speak to them. ³⁵ So was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet: "I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the foundation of the world."

¹⁰ he said, "To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to others it is given in parables, so that 'Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'

¹ "I have said all this to you so that you will not go astray.

¹³ But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak; and he will tell you things to come.

²⁵ "I have said this to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.

²⁹ His disciples said, "See, now you are speaking plainly, and not using a figure of speech!

²⁰ "Go, stand and speak to the people in the temple the whole message of this Life."

²⁸ saying, "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man's blood upon us."

¹⁷ So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Greeks, and in the market place every day with those who happened to be there.

¹² Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.

²⁶ "So do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.

⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

⁴³ If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, to the fire that shall never be quenched. ⁴⁴ (...)⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. ⁴⁶ (...)⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. ⁴ "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him!

²² So the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. ²³ And in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame.' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things; but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

²⁹ and come forth those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

²³ except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me. ²⁴ But I do not consider my life of any account nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

¹³ Then Paul answered, "What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound but even to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ As it is written: "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." ³⁷ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹ nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁸ inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power, ¹⁰ when he comes to be glorified in his saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believedbecause our testimony to you was believed.

⁶ For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. ⁷ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. ⁸ In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing.

³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

³⁵ Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection.

²⁸ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and offer to God acceptable worship with reverence and awe, ²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

¹² There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But youwho are you to judge your neighbor?

¹⁰ And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. ¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat upon it; from his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. ¹³ The sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done. ¹⁴ Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. ¹⁵ And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

¹¹ He said to them, "What man of you, if he has one sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? ¹² Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

²⁴ Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!

⁹ For it is written in the Law of Moses, "You shall not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." Is it for oxen that God is concerned? ¹⁰ Or is he speaking altogether for our sake? Yes, for our sake it was written, because the plowman ought to plow in hope, and the thresher to thresh in hope of sharing the crops.

³⁴ Then the King will say to those on his right hand, 'Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

²² His parents said this because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that he was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

⁹ because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰ For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his mouth and so is saved.

⁵ He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.

⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you are talking about." ⁷¹ And when he went out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth." ⁷² But again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man!" ⁷³ After a little while those who stood by came up and said to Peter, "Surely you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you." ⁷⁴ Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the rooster crowed. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word Jesus had said, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times." So he went out and wept bitterly.

³⁸ For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man will also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

³⁰ Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you that this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times."

⁷² And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had said to him, "Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times." And he broke down and wept.

²⁶ For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

⁹ But he who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.

¹² if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;

¹ But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

²³ No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

⁴⁹ "I came to cast fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! ⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!

⁴⁰ When they heard these words, some of the people said, "Surely this is the prophet." ⁴¹ Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come from Galilee? ⁴² Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes from David, and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?" ⁴³ So there was a division among the people because of him. ⁴⁴ Some of them wanted to seize him, but no one laid hands on him. ⁴⁵ The officers then went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why did you not bring him?" ⁴⁶ The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!" ⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, "Are you deceived, you also? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed." ⁵⁰ Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before, and who was one of them, said to them, ⁵¹ "Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he is doing?" ⁵² They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Search and look, and you will find that no prophet is to rise out of Galilee."

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted what was spoken by Paul, and blasphemed. ⁴⁶ Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first. Since you reject it and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. ⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us: 'I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.'" ⁴⁸ When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord; and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. ⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord spread through the whole region. ⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, and stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.

² But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brethren.

⁴ But the people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

²¹ Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.

¹⁶ You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death.

⁸ Peter said to him, "You shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with me."

⁸ Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.

³⁷ Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'

²⁶ "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.

³⁵ But those who are considered worthy to attain that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,

³⁶ Watch at all times, and pray always that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man."

²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

¹⁵ When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." ¹⁶ He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." ¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ controls us, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died. ¹⁵ And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

⁷ But whatever was gain to me, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. ⁸ More than that, I count everything to be loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christthe righteousness that comes from God and is by faith,

⁵ This is evidence of God's righteous judgment, so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. ⁶ For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, ⁷ and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,

⁴ Yet you have a few names in Sardis, people who have not soiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

³² Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name, and they compelled him to carry his cross.

³⁴ And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

²¹ Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, "You lack one thing; go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."

²³ Then he said to them all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

²⁷ And whoever does not bear his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

²⁴ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

³³ Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.

²⁵ He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

²⁰ as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be ashamed in anything, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. ²¹ For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

⁴⁰ And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'

⁴⁵ Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'

¹⁶ "He who hears you hears me, he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

⁴⁴ Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. ⁴⁵ And he who sees me sees him who sent me. ⁴⁶ I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me should not remain in darkness. ⁴⁷ If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. ⁴⁸ He who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will condemn him on the last day. ⁴⁹ For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent me gave me a command, what to say and what to speak.

¹⁴ and though my fleshly condition was a trial to you, you did not despise or scorn me, but you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus himself.

¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

²² Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. ²³ No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

¹ "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

⁴ so that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

⁶ But when you pray, go into your room, shut the door and pray to your Father, who is in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.

¹⁸ so that you do not appear to be fasting to men, but to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

²⁷ For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each man according to what he has done.

³⁴ Then the King will say to those on his right hand, 'Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, ³⁶ I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' ⁴⁰ And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'

¹³ But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, ¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just."

¹ I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, ² that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she has need from you, for she has been a helper of many and of myself also. ³ Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, ⁴ who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I but also all the churches of the Gentiles give thanks;

²³ Gaius, who is my host and the host of the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the treasurer of the city, greets you, and Quartus, our brother.

¹⁷ For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if it is not of my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.

¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains; ¹⁷ but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me ¹⁸ may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that Dayand you know very well all the service he rendered at Ephesus.

¹⁰ For God is not so unjust as to forget your work and the love which you have shown for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.

⁸ Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward.

⁵ Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the brethren, and especially when they are strangers; ⁶ and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.

⁵ When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help, ⁶ and saying, "Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, in terrible distress."

³ and he said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ⁴ Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. ⁵ Whoever receives one little child like this in my name receives me. ⁶ "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

¹⁴ So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

⁴¹ For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, will by no means lose his reward. ⁴² "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea.

⁴² And a poor widow came, and put in two copper coins, which make a penny. ⁴³ And he called his disciples to him, and said to them, "Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury.

⁷ For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you will, you can do good to them; but you will not always have me. ⁸ She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint my body for burial.

³⁵ But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For he is kind to the ungrateful and evil.

¹⁰ For if a man sees you, who have knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be encouraged to eat food sacrificed to idols? ¹¹ And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. ¹² Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. ¹³ Therefore, if food causes my brother to fall, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to fall.

¹² For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he does not have.

⁶ The point is this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. ⁷ Each one must give just as he has purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, so that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may have an abundance for every good work. ⁹ As it is written, "He has scattered abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." ¹⁰ Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will multiply the harvest of your righteousness. ¹¹ You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. ¹² For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God. ¹³ Because of the test of this service, you will glorify God by your obedience in your confession of the gospel of Christ, and by the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others; ¹⁴ while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

¹⁵ You yourselves also know, Philippians, that in the first preaching of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you only; ¹⁶ for even in Thessalonica you sent me a gift once and again for my needs. ¹⁷ Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account. ¹⁸ I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. ¹⁹ And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
