¹⁷ Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, ¹⁸ "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn him to death, ¹⁹ and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day."

⁴⁷ While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people.

¹² But when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he made no answer.

⁶³ and said, "Sir, we remember how that deceiver said, while he was still alive, 'After three days I will rise again.'

³¹ And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

³¹ For he was teaching his disciples and said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill him, and when he is killed, after three days he will rise." ³² But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to ask him.

³² They were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And he took the twelve aside again and began to tell them what was to happen to him. ³³ "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; ³⁴ and they will mock him, and spit on him, and scourge him, and kill him. And after three days he will rise."

²² saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised." ²³ Then he said to them all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. ²⁵ For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself? ²⁶ For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. ²⁷ But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God."

³¹ who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

⁴⁴ "Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men." ⁴⁵ But they did not understand this saying, and it was hidden from them so that they did not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

²⁵ But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

³¹ Then he took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written of the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. ³² For he will be delivered to the Gentiles, and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. ³³ They will scourge him and kill him, and on the third day he will rise again." ³⁴ But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

⁶ He is not here, but is risen! Remember how he told you while he was still in Galilee, ⁷ 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.'"

²⁶ Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter his glory?" ²⁷ And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures.

⁴⁶ And he said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,

²³ this man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put him to death. ²⁴ But God raised him up, having loosed the agony of death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. ²⁵ For David says concerning him, 'I saw the Lord always before me; for he is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken. ²⁶ Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced; moreover my flesh also will live in hope, ²⁷ because you will not abandon my soul to hades, nor let your Holy One see decay. ²⁸ You have made known to me the ways of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.' ²⁹ "Brethren, I may say to you confidently of the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. ³⁰ And so, because he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, ³¹ he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to hades, nor did his flesh see decay. ³² This Jesus God raised up again, and of that we are all witnesses.

³ For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, ⁴ that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
