1 Seeing the crowds, he went up on a mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him.
2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its taste, how shall it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
18 For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will by any means pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
19 Whoever then breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I tell you, that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
21 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.'
22 But I say to you that anyone who is angry with his brother shall be subject to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, 'Raca,' shall be answerable to the council. But whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of hell.
23 Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go. First be reconciled to your brother; and then come and offer your gift.
25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him to court, lest your adversary deliver you to the judge, the judge hand you over to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.
26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.
27 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.'
28 But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell.
31 "It has also been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.'
32 But I say to you that every one who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, causes her to become an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
33 "Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.'
34 But I say to you, do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne;
35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.
36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.
37 Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.
38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'
39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. But if someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
41 And if someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
47 And if you greet only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
48 You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Romans 8:35-39
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written: "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Corinthians 4:9-13
9 For, I think that God has exhibited us apostles last of all, like men condemned to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.
10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honor.
11 To this present hour we are both hungry and thirsty, and we are poorly clothed, and roughly treated, and homeless;
12 and we toil, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure;
13 when we are slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the scum of the world, the refuse of all things.
2 Corinthians 4:8-12
8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;
10 always carrying about in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.
11 For we who live are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
12 So then death is at work in us, but life in you.
2 Corinthians 4:17
17 For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison,

2 Thessalonians 1:4-7
4 Therefore we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which you are enduring.
5 This is evidence of God's righteous judgment, so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering.
6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you,
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,
2 Timothy 2:12
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;

James 1:2-5
2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,
3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
1 Peter 3:13-14
1 Peter 4:12-16
12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
13 But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a wrongdoer, or a troublesome meddler;
16 yet if one suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but under that name let him glorify God.
1 John 3:12

Matthew 23:31-37
31 Thus you witness against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers' guilt.
33 You serpents! You brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell?
34 Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from town to town,
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
36 Truly, I say to you, all this will come upon this generation.

49 Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,'
50 that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation,
51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation.

8 for once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light
9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),
10 and try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.
11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead expose them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret.
13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.
14 For this reason it is said, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

Revelation 21:14-27
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The one who talked with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, and its gates and its walls.
16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the rod, twelve thousand stadia; its length and width and height are equal.
17 He also measured its wall, a hundred and forty-four cubits by a man's measure, which is also an angel's.
18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as clear as glass.
19 The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
22 And I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.
25 In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be shut;
26 they will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.

1 John 1:5-7
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
Matthew 3:15

Romans 10:4
4 For Christ is the end of the law, that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
Galatians 3:17-24
17 What I mean is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise.
18 For if the inheritance is based on the law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.
19 Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.
20 Now a mediator does not represent just one party; but God is one.
21 Is the law then opposed to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given which could impart life, then righteousness would indeed have come by the law.
22 But the Scripture has bound everyone under sin, so that that what was promised by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
23 Now before faith came, we were bound under the law, kept under restraint until faith should be revealed.
24 So the law was our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Galatians 4:4-5
Colossians 2:16-17

3 But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year after year.
4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

6 in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure.
7 Then I said, 'Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,' as it is written of me in the roll of the book."
8 When he said above, "You did not desire, nor did you take pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings" (these are offered according to the law),
9 then he said, "Behold, I have come to do your will." He takes away the first in order to establish the second.
10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 But when he had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,

18 And you say, 'If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift that is on it, he is bound by his oath.'
19 You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
20 Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
21 And he who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it.
22 And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.

Acts 1:1
1 In the first book, O Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach,
Romans 3:8
8 Why not say as we are being slanderously reported as saying and as some claim that we say "Let us do evil that good may come"? Their condemnation is just.
Romans 6:1
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
Romans 6:15
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!
Romans 13:8-10
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
9 The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet," and any other commandment there may be, are summed up in this sentence, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Galatians 3:10-13
10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to do them."
11 Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, "The righteous man shall live by faith."
12 But the Law is not of faith; on the contrary, "He who does them shall live by them."
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for usfor it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"
Galatians 5:14-24
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
15 But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you would.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
19 Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, lewdness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Philippians 3:17-18

8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
9 Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
1 Thessalonians 2:10-12
10 You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless we behaved toward you believers;
11 for you know how, as a father with his own children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you
12 to live a life worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.
1 Thessalonians 4:1-7
1 Finally, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God, just as you are doing, you do so more and more.
2 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that is, that you should abstain from sexual immorality;
4 that each one of you know how to take his own spouse for himself in holiness and honor,
5 not in the passion of lust like the heathen, who do not know God;
6 and that no man transgress and wrong his brother in this matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you.
7 For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness.
1 Timothy 4:11-12
1 Timothy 6:3-4
3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness,
4 he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, which produce envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions,
Titus 2:8-10
8 and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
9 Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not to talk back to them,
10 and not to steal, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in everything they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

Matthew 23:2-5
2 "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat.
3 So you must observe and do whatever they tell you. But do not do what they do; for they preach, but do not practice.
4 They bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with their finger.
5 But they do all their works to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and the tassels of their garments long.
Matthew 23:23-28
23 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the Law, justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.

12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.'
13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!'
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, righteousness through faith;

32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,
