¹³ Brethren, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,

⁶² Jesus said to him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."

⁴² but only one thing is needed. And Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

²³ But now, since I no longer have any place for work in these regions, and since I have longed for many years to come to you, ²⁴ I plan to do so when I go to Spain. I hope to see you while passing through, and to be helped by you on my journey there, after I have enjoyed your company for a while. ²⁵ Now, however, I am going to Jerusalem with aid for the saints. ²⁶ For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. ²⁷ They were pleased to do it, and indeed they are in debt to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings. ²⁸ When therefore I have completed this, and have delivered to them this fruit, I shall go on by way of you to Spain. ²⁹ And I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.

²⁴ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. ²⁵ Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. ²⁶ Therefore I do not run aimlessly. I do not box as a man beating the air. ²⁷ But I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

¹⁶ From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a fleshly point of view; even though we once regarded Christ from a fleshly point of view, we regard him thus no longer.

¹⁸ What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice, ¹⁹ for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, ²⁰ as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be ashamed in anything, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. ²¹ For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

¹² Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;

⁸ More than that, I count everything to be loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

¹² Not that I have already obtained this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

¹¹ Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. ¹² I know how to be in need, and I also know how to have plenty; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and want. ¹³ I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

¹ Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

¹ Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, ² fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁸ But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
