¹ Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth which leads to godliness, ² in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised long ages ago, ³ and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior, ⁴ to Titus, my true child in a common faith: grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. ⁵ For this reason I left you in Crete, that you might straighten out what was left unfinished, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you, ⁶ namely, if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, and his children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild or rebellious. ⁷ For the overseer must be blameless as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not violent, not fond of sordid gain, ⁸ but hospitable, a lover of what is good, master of himself, upright, holy, and self-controlled; ⁹ he must hold firm to the sure word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to refute those who contradict it. ¹⁰ For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision. ¹¹ They must be silenced, because they are upsetting whole families by teaching things they ought not to teach for the sake of sordid gain. ¹² One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." ¹³ This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they may be sound in the faith ¹⁴ and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of men who reject the truth. ¹⁵ To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are corrupted and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their minds and consciences are corrupted. ¹⁶ They profess to know God, but they deny him by their deeds; they are detestable and disobedient, unfit for any good deed.

²⁶ but you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep. ²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

⁴⁸ When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord; and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

¹ Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are throughout Achaia:

⁸ For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God

¹ Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:

² that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in love, to have all the riches of assured understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ himself,

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. ¹⁴ He called you to this through our gospel, that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴ nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than the divine trainingwhich is by faith. ⁵ But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.

⁴ who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

¹⁶ By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: he was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

³ If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness,

²³ Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know that they produce quarrels.

²⁵ with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God will grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,

¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this present age,

³ His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and excellence.

¹¹ Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy lives and godliness,

²³ No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

³⁴ Then the King will say to those on his right hand, 'Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

¹⁷ And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

³⁰ who will not receive a hundredfold now in this timehouse and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come, eternal life.

¹⁵ that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

³⁹ You search the Scriptures, because in them you think that you have eternal life; and these are they that testify of me.

⁵⁴ Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

²⁸ I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one shall snatch them out of my hand.

² as you have given him authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to all those you have given him.

²⁴ Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me may be with me where I am, that they may behold my glory which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world.

¹⁸ says the Lord, who makes these things known from long ago.

² which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures,

⁷ to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life;

² through whom we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of the glory of God.

⁴ and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

²¹ so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁵ Now to him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret for long ages

²⁷ To them God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to all men,

⁸ But, since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

¹² Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

¹⁹ storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that life which is life indeed.

¹ Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,

⁹ who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and the grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity,

¹⁰ Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

¹³ if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.

¹⁵ Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

⁷ Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness,

¹³ looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,

⁷ so that we might be justified by his grace and become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

¹⁷ So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he interposed with an oath, ¹⁸ so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.

³ Blessed be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has caused us to be born again into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, kept in heaven for you,

²⁰ He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. ²¹ Through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. ²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brethren, love one another earnestly from the heart. ²³ For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

²⁵ And this is what he has promised useternal life.

² Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. ³ And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. ¹³ I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God; wait anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

⁸ and all who dwell on earth will worship it, every one whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain.

⁸ The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up out of the abyss and go to destruction. And those who dwell on the earth, whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will wonder when they see the beast, because he was and is not and will come.

¹⁰ And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.

¹⁵ And he said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

⁴⁷ "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

³⁶ You know the word which he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all).

²⁶ And he made from one man every nation of men to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation,

⁶ When we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

¹⁴ How then can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without a preacher? ¹⁵ And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news!"

¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit, so that from Jerusalem and as far round as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

²⁶ but is now revealed and made known to all nations through the prophetic writings, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith

¹⁷ For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if it is not of my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.

⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

¹⁰ as a plan for the fullness of the times, to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth. In him

¹⁷ And he came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near;

⁵ which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; ⁶ that is, how the Gentiles are fellow heirs and members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. ⁷ Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace which was given me by the working of his power. ⁸ To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

¹³ so that my imprisonment for Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else,

⁶ which has come to you, just as in all the world it is bearing fruit and growing, even as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth;

²³ if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a minister.

⁴ but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please men, but to please God who tests our hearts.

¹ Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,

¹¹ according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

³ This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

⁵ For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, ⁶ who gave himself as a ransom for allthe testimony given at the proper time. ⁷ For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

¹⁰ For to this end we labor and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

¹⁰ but has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. ¹¹ For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher.

¹⁰ and not to steal, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in everything they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

⁴ But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, ⁵ he saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but because of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

¹⁶ So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped.

¹¹ For to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

⁴² They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man is indeed the Savior of the world."

⁷ To all in Rome who are beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹² that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.

¹³ I still had no rest in my mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I took my leave of them and went on to Macedonia.

¹³ Since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed and therefore I spoke," we also believe and therefore speak,

⁶ But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,

¹³ Therefore we are comforted. And besides our own comfort, we rejoiced still more at the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. ¹⁴ For if I have boasted to him about you, I was not put to shame; but just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting before Titus has proved true.

⁶ So we urged Titus that as he had previously made a beginning, he would also complete in you this work of grace.

¹⁶ But thanks be to God who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus.

²³ As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker among you; and as for our brethren, they are messengers of the churches, a glory to Christ.

¹⁸ I urged Titus to go, and I sent the brother with him. Titus did not take advantage of you, did he? Did we not act in the same spirit and walk in the same steps?

³ But even Titus, who was with me, was not compelled to be circumcised, though he was a Greek.

² grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹¹ so there will be an entrance richly provided for you into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.

² that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

¹⁴ And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

³ Beloved, although I was very eager to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

¹¹ Cretans and Arabswe hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God."

³⁰ And this they did, sending it to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

²³ And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they believed.

⁷ When we had sailed slowly for a good many days, and with difficulty had arrived off Cnidus, since the wind did not allow us to go farther, we sailed under the lee of Crete, off Salmone.

¹² Because the harbor was not suitable to winter in, the majority reached a decision to put out to sea from there, on the chance that somehow they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete, facing southwest and northwest, and spend the winter there.

²¹ When they had gone a long time without food, then Paul stood up among them and said, "Men, you should have followed my advice and not to have set sail from Crete and incurred this damage and loss.

³⁴ If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you will not come together for judgment. About the other things I will give directions when I come.

⁴⁰ But all things should be done decently and in an orderly way.

⁵ For even though I am absent in flesh, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

³ As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines,

² And the things you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

⁵ In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

¹⁸ And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,

¹⁴ And we urge you, brethren, admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

² Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, ³ not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. ⁴ He must manage his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity ⁵ (If a man does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of God's church?). ⁶ He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall into the same condemnation as the devil. ⁷ He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

¹² Deacons must be the husband of one wife, and must manage their children and their households well.

⁴⁵ "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time?

⁴² And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time?

¹ This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Moreover it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.

¹ It is a trustworthy saying: if any one aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. ² Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, ³ not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. ⁴ He must manage his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity ⁵ (If a man does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of God's church?). ⁶ He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall into the same condemnation as the devil. ⁷ He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. ⁸ Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, and not fond of sordid gain; ⁹ they must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. ¹⁰ They must also first be tested; and then if they are beyond reproach, let them serve as deacons. ¹¹ The women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things. ¹² Deacons must be the husband of one wife, and must manage their children and their households well. ¹³ For those who have served well as deacons gain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

²⁴ And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome, but he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, patient when wronged, ²⁵ with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God will grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,

⁵ For this reason I left you in Crete, that you might straighten out what was left unfinished, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you,

³ The older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not to be slanderers or slaves to much wine, but they are to teach what is good,

¹⁹ This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger, ²⁰ for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

¹⁰ As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of God's varied grace.

² shepherd the flock of God that is under your care, serving as overseersnot under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;

¹⁰ and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desire and despise authority. Bold and willful, they are not afraid to revile the glorious ones,

⁴ But as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, distresses, ⁵ in beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, sleeplessness, hunger, ⁶ in purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love, ⁷ in truthful speech, and in the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; ⁸ through glory and dishonor, evil report and good report; true, yet regarded as impostors;

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless we behaved toward you believers;

² Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

¹² Let no one look down on your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

¹¹ But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

²² Now flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

³ unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,

¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child.

²⁸ for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, proving by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

²⁴ But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all;

²¹ But test everything; hold fast to what is good.

¹⁵ So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.

¹⁰ and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,

¹⁵ It is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinnersof whom I am the foremost.

¹⁹ holding faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and made shipwreck of their faith.

⁹ It is a trustworthy saying worthy of full acceptance.

¹³ Follow the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears, they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own desires,

¹¹ They must be silenced, because they are upsetting whole families by teaching things they ought not to teach for the sake of sordid gain.

¹ But as for you, teach what befits sound doctrine.

⁷ Show yourself in all respects an example of good deeds, and in your teaching show integrity, seriousness, ⁸ and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

²⁵ only hold fast what you have until I come.

³ Remember therefore what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. But if you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.

¹¹ I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may take your crown.

² So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him,

¹ But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brethren, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved."

²⁴ Since we have heard that some persons from us have disturbed you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions,

²⁹ I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;

¹⁷ I urge you, brethren, to take note of those who cause divisions and difficulties, contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; avoid them. ¹⁸ For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple.

¹² And what I am doing, I will also continue to do, in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things of which they boast. ¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will be according to their deeds.

⁶ I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you by the grace of Christ and turning to a different gospel ⁷ which is really not another gospel; but there are some who are disturbing you, and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. ⁸ But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we preached to you, let him be accursed!

⁴ But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had slipped in to spy out our freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage.

¹ You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified?

¹⁷ They seek you, but for no good purpose; they want to shut you out, so that you may seek them. ¹⁸ But it is always good to seek a good purpose, and not only when I am present with you. ¹⁹ My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you ²⁰ I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you. ²¹ Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the law?

¹ It was for freedom that Christ has set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. ² Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. ³ I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. ⁴ You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen away from grace.

¹⁴ As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming.

² Watch out for the dogs, watch out for the evil workers, watch out for those mutilators of the body. ³ For we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God, and glory in Christ Jesus, and put no confidence in the flesh,

¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ For this reason God sends upon them a strong delusion so that they will believe what is false, ¹² so that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in wickedness.

⁴ nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than the divine trainingwhich is by faith.

⁶ For some men have wandered away from these things and turned aside to fruitless discussion,

³ If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching which accords with godliness, ⁴ he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, which produce envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions, ⁵ and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a means of gain.

¹³ while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

⁴ and will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

²⁶ If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.

¹ But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. ² And many will follow their licentiousness, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled.

¹⁸ Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come; by this we know that it is the last hour.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

⁶ But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat food sacrificed to idols and to practice sexual immorality.

¹³ "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor do you allow those who would enter to go in.

⁴⁰ For they no longer dared to ask him any question.

¹² But he who is a hireling and not the shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them.

⁶ For among them are those who make their way into households and capture weak women, weighed down with sins and swayed by various impulses,

⁷ For the overseer must be blameless as God's steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not violent, not fond of sordid gain,

⁹ he must hold firm to the sure word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to refute those who contradict it.

¹⁰ Warn a man who is factious once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him,

⁸ Yet in the same way these men in their dreamings defile the flesh, reject authority, and revile the glorious ones. ⁹ But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a reviling judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" ¹⁰ But these men revile whatever they do not understand; and the things that they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals do, by these things they are destroyed. ¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for the sake of gain they have rushed headlong into the Balaam's error, and perished in Korah's rebellion. ¹² These are the men who are blemishes in your love feasts when they feast with you without fear, caring for themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, uprooted; ¹³ wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam; wandering stars, for whom the blackest darkness has been reserved forever.

⁸ For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did regret itfor I see that my letter hurt you, though only for a little while ⁹ now I rejoice, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance; for you became sorrowful as God intended, so that you suffered no loss through us. ¹⁰ For godly sorrow produces a repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, but worldly sorrow produces death. ¹¹ For behold what this very thing, godly sorrow, has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what zeal, what readiness to see justice done! At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter. ¹² So although I wrote to you, it was not on account of the one who did the wrong, nor on account of the one who suffered the wrong, but in order that your zeal for us might be revealed to you in the sight of God.

¹⁰ I write these things while I am absent, in order that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority which the Lord gave me for building you up, and not for tearing you down.

⁶ If you point out these things to the brethren, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

²⁵ See to it that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less shall we escape, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?

²² It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A dog turns back to its own vomit," and, "A sow, after having washed, returns to wallowing in the mire."

¹⁸ But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.

³⁹ But the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness. ⁴⁰ You foolish ones! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? ⁴¹ But give for alms those things which are within; and behold, everything is clean for you.

¹⁵ And the voice came to him again a second time, "What God has cleansed, you must not call common."

¹⁴ I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean.

²⁰ Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.

²³ But he who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not act from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.

¹² "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be mastered by anything. ¹³ "Food is for the stomach and the stomach for food"but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

⁷ However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, being accustomed to idols, eat food as really sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.

²³ "All things are lawful," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful," but not all things build up.

²⁵ Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience;

³¹ So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

²⁷ Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. ²⁸ Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. ²⁹ For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

³ who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. ⁴ For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving;

¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

²² let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

²⁸ And since they did not see fit to retain the knowledge of God, God gave them over to a base mind, to do what ought not to be done.

¹⁸ and know his will and approve of what is excellent, because you are instructed in the law, ¹⁹ and if you are sure that you are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth ²¹ you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? ²² You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? ²³ You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? ²⁴ For, as it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

⁹ realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers

⁸ If any one does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his own family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

⁴ He who says, "I know him," but does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

⁴ For certain persons have crept in secretly, those who were long ago marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

⁸ But as for the cowardly, the unbelieving, the immoral, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

²⁷ Nothing unclean shall enter it, nor any one who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
