¹⁴ The murderer riseth with the light, killeth the afflicted and needy, and in the night is as a thief.

¹⁴ And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by Urijah. ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter saying, Set Urijah in the front of the thickest fight, and withdraw from him, that he may be smitten and die. ¹⁶ And it came to pass as Joab watched the city, that he assigned Urijah to a place where he knew that the valiant men were. ¹⁷ And the men of the city went out and fought with Joab; and there fell some of the people, of the servants of David; and Urijah the Hittite died also.

⁸ He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages; in the secret places doth he slay the innocent: his eyes watch for the wretched. ⁹ He lieth in wait secretly, like a lion in his thicket; he lieth in wait to catch the afflicted: he doth catch the afflicted, drawing him into his net. ¹⁰ He croucheth, he boweth down, that the wretched may fall by his strong ones.

¹ Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away; and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

³⁹ But this know, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be dug through.

⁷ Be not ye therefore fellow-partakers with them; ⁸ for ye were once darkness, but now light in [the] Lord; walk as children of light, ⁹ (for the fruit of the light [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth,) ¹⁰ proving what is agreeable to the Lord; ¹¹ and do not have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather also reprove [them],

² for ye know perfectly well yourselves, that the day of [the] Lord so comes as a thief by night.

³ Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and keep [it] and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come [upon thee] as a thief, and thou shalt not know at what hour I shall come upon thee.
