³¹ For the Lord will not cast off for ever;

²² For Jehovah will not cast away his people for his great name`s sake; because it has pleased Jehovah to make you his people.

⁷ Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more?

¹⁴ For Jehovah will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance;

⁸ Jehovah is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving-kindness. ⁹ He will not always chide, neither will he keep [his anger] for ever. ¹⁰ He hath not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

⁷ For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. ⁸ In the outpouring of wrath have I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting loving-kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer. ⁹ For this is [as] the waters of Noah unto me, since I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth: so have I sworn that I will no more be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. ¹⁰ For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my loving-kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall my covenant of peace be removed, saith Jehovah, that hath mercy on thee.

¹⁶ For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth; for the spirit would fail before me, and the souls [which] I have made.

³⁷ Thus saith Jehovah: If the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off the whole seed of Israel, for all that they have done, saith Jehovah.

⁴⁰ And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not draw back from them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their heart, that they may not turn aside from me.

²⁴ Hast thou not seen what this people have spoken, saying, The two families that Jehovah had chosen, he hath even cast them off? And they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.

¹⁸ Who is a ?God like unto thee, that forgiveth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in loving-kindness.

¹ I say then, Has God cast away his people? Far be the thought. For *I* also am an Israelite, of [the] seed of Abraham, of [the] tribe of Benjamin. ² God has not cast away his people whom he foreknew. Know ye not what the scripture says in [the history of] Elias, how he pleads with God against Israel? ³ Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have dug down thine altars; and *I* have been left alone, and they seek my life. ⁴ But what says the divine answer to him? I have left to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed knee to Baal. ⁵ Thus, then, in the present time also there has been a remnant according to election of grace. ⁶ But if by grace, no longer of works: since [otherwise] grace is no more grace.
