²⁰ Brethren, do not become children in sense. But in malice be children: and in sense be perfect.

⁹⁹ I have understood more than all my teachers: because thy testimonies are my meditation.

¹ A gradual canticle of David. Lord, my heart is not exalted: nor are my eyes lofty. Neither have I walked in great matters, nor in wonderful things above me. ² If I was not humbly minded, but exalted my soul: As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, so reward in my soul.

³ And he shall be filled with the spirit of the fear of the Lord, He shall not judge according to the sight of the eyes, nor reprove according to the hearing of the ears.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to little ones.

³ And said: amen I say to you, unless you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

⁴ Who answering, said to them: Have ye not read, that he who made man from the beginning, made them male and female? And he said:

¹⁵ Amen I say to you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter into it.

¹⁹ For your obedience is published in every place. I rejoice therefore in you. But I would have you to be wise in good and simple in evil.

⁶ Howbeit we speak wisdom among the perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, neither of the princes of this world that come to nought.

¹ And I, brethren, could not speak to you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal. As unto little ones in Christ. ² I gave you milk to drink, not meat: for you were not able as yet. But neither indeed are you now able: for you are yet carnal.

¹¹ When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child.

¹⁴ That henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive. ¹⁵ But doing the truth in charity, we may in all things grow up in him who is the head, even Christ:

⁹ And this I pray: That your charity may more and more abound in knowledge and in all understanding:

¹⁵ Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing you be otherwise minded, this also God will reveal to you,

¹² For whereas for the time you ought to be masters, you have need to be taught again what are the first elements of the words of God: and you are become such as have need of milk and not of strong meat. ¹³ For every one that is a partaker of milk is unskilful in the word of justice: for he is a little child.

¹ Wherefore, leaving the word of the beginning of Christ, let us go on to things more perfect: not laying again the foundation of penance from dead works and of faith towards God, ² Of the doctrine of baptisms and imposition of hands, and of the resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. ³ And this will we do, if God permit.

² As newborn babes, desire the rational milk without guile, that thereby you may grow unto salvation:

¹⁸ But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and unto the day of eternity, Amen.
