⁴ But for David's sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem:

² And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and magnify thy name, and thou shalt be blessed.

²⁹ Now when God destroyed the cities of that country, remembering Abraham, he delivered Lot out of the destruction of the cities wherein he had dwelt.

⁵ Because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my precepts and commandments, and observed my ceremonies and laws.

³⁷ Because he loved thy fathers, and chose their seed after them. And he brought thee out of Egypt, going before thee with his great power,

¹² And when thy days shall be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of the bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ He shall build a house to my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom fore ever. ¹⁴ I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son: and if he commit any iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men. ¹⁵ But my mercy I will not take away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before my face. ¹⁶ And thy house shall be faithful, and thy kingdom for ever before thy face, and thy throne shall be firm for ever.

¹⁷ And Abisai the son of Sarvia rescued him, and striking the Philistine killed him. Then David's men swore unto him saying: Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, lest thou put out the lamp of Israel.

¹² Nevertheless, in thy days I will not do it, for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.

³² But one tribe shall remain to him for the sake of my servant, David, and Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:

³⁶ And to his son I will give one tribe, that there may remain a lamp for my servant, David, before me always in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen, that my name might be there.

⁷ But the Lord would not destroy the house of David: because of the covenant which he had made with him: and because he had promised to give a lamp to him, and to his sons for ever.

⁵ Shall not Sion say: This man and that man is born in her? and the Highest himself hath founded her.

¹⁷ There will I bring forth a horn to David: I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.

⁷ His empire shall be multiplied, and there shall be no end of peace: he shall sit upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom; to establish it and strengthen it with judgment and with justice, from henceforth and for ever: the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

³² And what shall be answered to the messengers of the nations? That the Lord hath founded Sion, and the poor of his people shall hope in him.

³⁵ And I will protect this city, and will save it for my own sake, and for the sake of David my servant.

⁷ And give him no silence till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

² Thus saith the Lord, who will do, and will form it, and prepare it, the Lord is his name.

²⁰ Thus saith the Lord: if my covenant, with the day can be made void, and my covenant with the night, that there should not be day and night in their season: ²¹ Also my covenant with David my servant may be made void, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne, and with the Levites and priests my ministers. ²² As the stars of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea be measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites my ministers. ²³ And the word of the Lord came to Jeremias, saying: ²⁴ Hast thou not seen what this people hath spoken, saying: The two families which the Lord had chosen, are cast off: and they have despised my people, so that it is no more a nation before them? ²⁵ Thus saith the Lord. If I have not set my covenant between day and night, and laws to heaven and earth: ²⁶ Surely I will also cast off the seed of Jacob, and of David my servant, so as not to take any of his seed to be rulers of the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will bring back their captivity, and will have mercy on them.

¹ And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be prepared in the top of the mountains, and high above the hills: and people shall flow to it. ² And many nations shall come in haste, and say: Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob: and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth out of Sion, and the word of the Lord out of Jerusalem.

¹⁸ And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

⁶⁹ And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, in the house of David his servant. ⁷⁰ As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets, who are from the beginning. ⁷¹ Salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all that hate us. ⁷² To perform mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy testament. ⁷³ The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, that he would grant to us. ⁷⁴ That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear: ⁷⁵ In holiness and justice before him, all our days. ⁷⁶ And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt, go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways: ⁷⁷ To give knowledge of salvation to his people, unto the remission of their sins. ⁷⁸ Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, in which the Orient from on high hath visited us: ⁷⁹ To enlighten them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death: to direct our feet into the way of peace.

³² A light to the revelation of the Gentiles and the glory of thy people Israel.

¹² Again therefore, Jesus spoke to: them, saying: I am the light of the world. He that followeth me walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

²⁸ As concerning the gospel, indeed, they are enemies for your sake: but as touching the election, they are most dear for the sake of the fathers.

¹⁶ I, Jesus, have sent my angel, to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the root and stock of David, the bright and morning star.
