²⁰ Which had been some time incredulous, when they waited for the patience of God in the days of Noe, when the ark was a building: wherein a few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water.

³ And God said: My spirit shall not remain in man for ever, because he is flesh, and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

⁵ And God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times,

¹³ He said to Noe: The end of all flesh is come before me, the earth is filled with iniquity through them, and I will destroy them with the earth.

¹³ In the selfsame day Noe, and Sem, and Cham, and Japheth, his sons: his wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, went into the ark.

¹⁷ And the flood was forty days upon the earth: and the waters increased, and lifted up the ark on high from the earth. ¹⁸ For they overflowed exceedingly: and filled all on the face of the earth: and the ark was carried upon the waters. ¹⁹ And the waters prevailed beyond measure upon the earth: and all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. ²⁰ The water was fifteen cubits higher than the mountains which it covered. ²¹ And all flesh was destroyed that moved upon the earth, both of fowl and of cattle, and of beasts, and of all creeping things that creep upon the earth: and all men. ²² And all things wherein there is the breath of life on the earth, died. ²³ And he destroyed all the substance that was upon the earth, from man even to beast, and the creeping things and fowls of the air: and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noe only remained, and they that were with him in the ark.

¹ And God remembered Noe, and all the living creatures, and all the cattle which were with him in the ark, and brought a wind upon the earth, and the waters were abated:

¹⁸ So Noe went out, he and his sons: his wife, and the wives of his sons with him.

¹⁸ Therefore the Lord waiteth that he may have mercy on you: and therefore shall he be exalted sparing you: because the Lord is the God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

¹⁴ How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!

³⁷ And as in the days of Noe, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. ³⁸ For, as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, even till that day in which Noe entered into the ark: ³⁹ And they knew not till the flood came and took them all away: so also shall the coming of the Son of man be.

³² Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom.

²⁴ Strive to enter by the narrow gate: for many, I say to you, shall seek to enter and shall not be able. ²⁵ But when the master of the house shall be gone in and shall shut the door, you shall begin to stand without; and knock at the door, saying: Lord, open to us. And he answering, shall say to you: I know you not, whence you are.

²⁶ And as it came to pass in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They did eat and drink, they married wives and were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise as it came to pass in the days of Lot. They did eat and drink, they bought and sold, they planted and built. ²⁹ And in the day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man shall be revealed.

⁴ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and patience and longsuffering? Knowest thou not that the benignity of God leadeth thee to penance? ⁵ But according to thy hardness and impenitent heart, thou treasurest up to thyself wrath, against the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God:

²² What if God, willing to shew his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction,

¹⁵ For we are the good odour of Christ unto God, in them that are saved and in them that perish. ¹⁶ To the one indeed the odour of death unto death: but to the others the odour of life unto life. And for these things who is so sufficient?

²⁶ That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life:

⁷ By faith Noe, having received an answer concerning those things which as yet were not seen, moved with fear, framed the ark for the saving of his house: by the which he condemned the world and was instituted heir of the justice which is by faith.

⁵ And spared not the original world, but preserved Noe, the eighth person, the preacher of justice, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.

¹⁵ And account the longsuffering of our Lord, salvation: as also our most dear brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, hath written to you:
