⁴ That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour,

⁵ And David answered the priest, and said to him: Truly, as to what concerneth women, we have refrained ourselves from yesterday and the day before, when we came out, and the vessels of the young men were holy. Now this way is defiled, but it shall also be sanctified this day in the vessels.

¹⁵ And the Lord said to him: Go thy way: for this man is to me a vessel of election, to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.

²⁴ Wherefore, God gave them up to the desires of their heart, unto uncleanness: to dishonour their own bodies among themselves.

¹⁹ I speak an human thing, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For as you have yielded your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity, unto iniquity: so now yield your members to serve justice, unto sanctification.

²¹ Or hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump, to make one vessel unto honour and another unto dishonour? ²² What if God, willing to shew his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath, fitted for destruction, ²³ That he might shew the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy which he hath prepared unto glory?

¹ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercy of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing unto God, your reasonable service.

¹⁵ Know you not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid!

¹⁸ Fly fornication. Every sin that a man doth is without the body: but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. ¹⁹ Or know you not that your members are the temple of the Holy Ghost, who is in you, whom you have from God: and you are not your own? ²⁰ For you are bought with a great price. Glorify and bear God in your body.

² But for fear of fornication, let every man have his own wife: and let every woman have her own husband.

⁹ But if they do not contain themselves, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to be burnt.

⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency may be of the power of God and not of us. ⁸ For the rest, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever modest, whatsoever just, whatsoever holy, whatsoever lovely, whatsoever of good fame, if there be any virtue, if any praise of discipline: think on these things.

²⁰ But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth: and some indeed unto honour, but some unto dishonour. ²¹ If any man therefore shall cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified and profitable to the Lord, prepared unto every good work.

⁴ Marriage honourable in all, and the bed undefiled. For fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

⁷ Ye husbands, likewise dwelling with them according to knowledge, giving honour to the female as to the weaker vessel and as to the co-heirs of the grace of life: that your prayers be not hindered.
