² And he said to the elder servant of his house, who was ruler over all he had: Put thy hand under my thigh,

² And Abram said: Lord God, what wilt thou give me? I shall go without children: and the son of the steward of my house is this Damascus Eliezer.

⁹ The servant, therefore, put his hand under the thigh of Abraham, his lord, and swore to him upon his word. ¹⁰ And he took ten camels of his master's herd, and departed, carrying something of all his goods with him, and he set forward and went on to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nachor.

⁴ And Joseph found favour in the sight of his master, and ministered to him: and being set over all by him, he governed the house committed to him, and all things that were delivered to him: ⁵ And the Lord blessed the house of the Egyptian for Joseph's sake, and multiplied all his substance, both at home and in the fields. ⁶ Neither knew he any other thing, but the bread which he ate. And Joseph was of a beautiful countenance, and comely to behold.

⁸ But he in no wise consenting to that wicked act said to her: Behold, my master hath delivered all things to me, and knoweth not what he hath in his own house: ⁹ Neither is there any thing which is not in my power, or that he hath not delivered to me, but thee, who art his wife; how then can I do this wicked thing, and sin against my God?

¹ And Joseph commanded the steward of his house, saying: Fill their sacks with corn, as much as they can hold: and put the money of every one in the top of his sack.

²⁹ And when he saw that the day of his death drew nigh, he called his son Joseph, and said to him: If I have found favour in thy sight, put thy hand under my thigh; and thou shalt shew me this kindness and truth, not to bury me in Egypt.

²⁴ And all the princes, and men of power, and all the sons of king David gave their hand, and were subject to Solomon the king.
