¹² And Adam said: The woman, whom thou gavest me to be my companion, gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

¹⁸ And the Lord God said: It is not good for man to be alone: let us make him a help like unto himself.

²⁰ And Adam called all the beasts by their names, and all the fowls of the air, and all the cattle of the field: but for Adam there was not found a helper like himself.

²² And the Lord God built the rib which he took from Adam into a woman: and brought her to Adam.

²¹ And he said to Aaron: What has this people done to thee, that thou shouldst bring upon them a most heinous sin? ²² And he answered him: Let not my lord be offended; for thou knowest this people, that they are prone to evil. ²³ They said to me: make us gods, that may go before us; for as to this Moses, who brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is befallen him. ²⁴ And I said to them: Which of you hath any gold? and they took and brought it to me; and I cast it into the fire, and this calf came out.

²⁰ And Saul said to Samuel: Yea, I have hearkened to the voice of the Lord, and have walked in the way by which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag, the king of Amalec, and Amalec I have slain. ²¹ But the people took of the spoils, sheep and oxen, as the firstfruits of those things that were slain, to offer sacrifice to the Lord their God in Galgal. ²² And Samuel said: Doth the Lord desire holocausts and victims, and not rather that the voice of the Lord should be obeyed? For obedience is better than sacrifices: and to hearken rather than to offer the fat or rams. ²³ Because it is like the sin of witchcraft, to rebel: and like the crime of idolatry, to refuse to obey. Forasmuch, therefore, as thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, the Lord hath also rejected thee from being king. ²⁴ And Saul said to Samuel: I have sinned, because I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words, fearing the people, and obeying their voice.

³³ If as a man I have hid my sin, and have concealed my iniquity in my bosom.

³ The folly of a man supplanteth his steps: and he fretteth in his mind against God.

¹³ He that hideth his sins, shall not prosper: but he that shall confess, and forsake them, shall obtain mercy.

²⁹ But he willing to justify himself, said to Jesus: And who is my neighbour?

³ For they, not knowing the justice of God and seeking to establish their own, have not submitted themselves to the justice of God.

¹³ Let no man, when he is tempted, say that he is tempted by God. For God is not a tempter of evils: and he tempteth no man. ¹⁴ But every man is tempted by his own concupiscence, being drawn away and allured. ¹⁵ Then, when concupiscence hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin. But sin, when it is completed, begetteth death.
